The World Rally Championship heads to Japan this weekend for the final round of 2022 with nothing but pride to race for, with both championships already decided. The 10-year wait for WRC to return to Japan in 2020 was ultimately delayed as the event became a casualty of the pandemic, and the sense of anticipation is even higher now amongst the passionate local fans cheering on Toyota. This weekend the Gravel Notes podcast is in to Japan with Autosport's Tom Howard as the previous gravel roads of Japan make way for 19 new twisty tarmac stages which will prove one of the toughest challenges of the year. On a new edition of the podcast, Tom previews the weekend action following Thursday's shakedown and first stage, which saw Sebastien Ogier narrowly beat M-Sport's Craig Breen by just 0.1 seconds, with Hyundai's Ott Tanak another tenth of a second behind. Tom also talks about WRC's silly season with Esapekka Lappi expected to join Hyundai to replace Tanak, with the Estonian facing a year on the side-lines without a drive in 2023. There is also still plenty to fight for in WRC2 with a three-way fight for the drivers title.
Hyundai faces a difficult decision ahead of 2023 as to who should partner Thierry Neuville. But who would we pick, and what strategy should the team adopt - commit fully to Neuville as its number one or bring in more equal partners?
Ott Tänak will leave Hyundai at the end of the year, but who will replace him, and what does Tänak himself do now? It's all discussed in this week's SPIN, The Rally Pod

Welcome to episode 23 of the Lovecars On The Grid podcast! Our hosts Tiff Needell and Paul Woodman are back to bring us another round up of motorsport events from the past week! We've had an interesting weekend from MotoGP, Formula E, Indycar and NASCAR! But we kick off with what is possibly one of the most insane road races in the World! The Isle of Man TT is currently taking place, with average speeds of over 130MPH! In WRC, we had very dusty roads in Sardinia, even after the road sweepers had been through! With 3 minute intervals between cars, it made for a tough rally, with a great weekend for Hyundai and a win for Ott Tanak. Moto GP riders were out in Barcelona, as Fabio Quartararo takes another win and begins to run away with the Championship. Will he win? In Moto2, British rider Jake Dixon qualified in 4th place, with Sam Lowe, our other British rider crashing out and retiring from the race. The win in Moto2 went to Celestino Vietti after a last lap battle with Aron Canet. In Moto3, our highest British finisher was JohnMcPhee in 7th place, but just half a second separated the top 7 riders! The win went to Spanish rider, Izan Guevara. Formula E were racing their electric cars in Jakarta. Mitch Evans took the win in his Jaguar. For the British drivers, Jake Dennis was the highest finisher in 6th place. Over in the US, the IMSA racing cars were in Belle Isle, a really tight race track! Sebastien Bourdais won with Cadillac, with British drivers Ollie Jarvis and Tom Blanc in 2nd place. Staying in Detroit, the Indycar was on Sunday at the same track. With lots of overtaking, the race win went to Will Power, having qualified from 16th, followed closely by Alexander Rossi. NASCAR was an entertaining race once again, with several incidents and yellow flags. Kyle Busch was arguably robbed of the win, following a safety car with 2 laps to go. This bunched the cars up, allowing Joey Logano to overtake and win the race. In other news, Kimi Raikkonen is going to appear in NASCAR in New York in August! BBC Top Gear was back last night also, with some old school USA banger racing. What did you think of the episode? Let us know in the comments! We also had Le Mans test weekend, and GT cars at Paul Ricard Circuit! Next week, we of course have LeMans approaching. F1 returns at Azerbaijan, with F2 supporting. Indycar are at Road America, arguably the best road course on the calendar! World Superbikes are at Lugano.
Kalle Rovanperä, Ott Tänak and Thierry Neuville were all victory contenders, but who was the star of the rally? The SPIN, The Rally Pod team dissects a thrilling Croatia Rally
Welcome to episode 17 of the Lovecars on the Grid podcast! Tiff Needell and Paul Woodman bring us the news on the motorsport events from around the World, and this week has been a busy one! We kick off with the dramatic events of Formula 1. We had a Ferrari meltdown at Imola, disappointing the Tifosi after Sainz crashing out in qualifying after a clash with Daniel Ricciardo. Charles LeClerc put his Ferrari into a wall when trying to go for the fastest lap. The Red Bull cars of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez came through, with Verstappen winning the race. 3rd and 4th wen to two British drivers, Lando Norris and George Russell. The support races were dramatic, with a win for Théo Pourchaire in F2, and Roman Stanek in Formula 3. We apologise again to Jonny Edgar for forgetting his name last week and we hope he gets well soon. We had a dramatic weekend in BTCC too, with overtakes involving 3 or 4 cars wide at Donington Park. We also had the Porsches, Ginettas and Minis racing. The highlight of the BTCC for us was Jake Hill, who finished 3rd in the first race, but got thrown out for ride height infringement and put to the back of the grid. He ended up winning the race! Even more drama in the NASCAR race at the Talladega Superspeedway. With the 200MPH back straight, we were expecting lots of incidents. There was just the one crash on the back straight, where cars were four a breadth, causing a massive crash with up to 20 cars off the track as a result. The lead changed 29 times in the last lap, with Kyle Larsson against Erik Jones. We had both World Superbikes and Moto GP this weekend. The Superbikes were at their Dutch round. In the final race, Razgatlioglu and Rea clashed and took each other off the track. Moto GP was very dramatic at the Algarve International Circuit in Portugal. Fabio Quartararo was triumphant on his Yamaha. There was turn 1 drama, with riders out braking each other and taking each other out. The biggest drama on the bikes was in Moto 2, where riders had to flee safety after Zonta Van Den Goorbergh's bike went up in flames. No less than 15 bikes all went down in the same corner, thanks to some rain on the track. Jake Dixon was on pole for the restart, with 7 laps to go. Unfortunately, the drama continued, where he lost his front wheel and lost the pole position with a crash. The most dramatic event of the weekend was at World Rally Championship in Croatia. With poor weather, we had a lot of punctures from the gravel and rocks. We started off with drama, with crashes and punctures from the beginning of the race. We had plenty of crashes, and even flames from Oliver Solberg's car. The drama came down to the last two stages, as Kalle Rovanpera's Toyota was on track for the comfortable win. In the penultimate, 19th stage, we had torrential rain! Rovanpera's ended up losing the lead to Hyundai's Ott Tanak. In the final stage however, Rovanpera managed to claw the win back, a great battle between the two drivers. Next week, we'll be doing this podcast from America! There's no Formula 1, but we have Indycar in Alabama. IMSA Sports cars at Laguna Seca. We have Moto GP at Barcelona, NASCAR and Formula E in Monaco and we have the Superbikes at Oulton Park!
Colin Clark takes the reins in Lisa O'Sullivan's absence as the team discusses whether the bruising Dakar Rally actually helped Sébastien Loeb on the Monte Carlo Rally, and there's a fascinating debate about the usage of tires.

On this episode of the “Autoweek Podcast,” Wesley Wren, Mike Pryson and Robin Warner talk with World Rally Championship correspondent Jeremy Hart about Rally Catalunya and Ott Tanak’s championship crowning. Hart talks with the gang about the event, the energy behind Tanak and compares him to previous champions. Hart also talks about possible changes to WRC for 2020, including drivers possibly retiring. After breaking down WRC, Robin, Mike and Wesley dissect the Mexico GP -- namely Lewis Hamilton’s performance. Robin spends time talking about the challenges teams face in Mexico because of the altitude. Robin also breaks down the possible ways that Valtteri Bottas can stay in the hunt for a drivers’ championship. Obviously, it isn’t likely that Bottas will win the championship. The middle of the show features Jake talking with Jim O'Neill and Greg Coleman about their outlandish creation: a V10-powered Ford Mustang mule. The engineers talk about the history of the car, why it was built and how they saved it from the crusher. The guys go into detail about the engine’s creation and the complete history of the car. Wrapping the show, Andrew Stoy and Wes Raynal join Jake and Wesley to talk about cars. The group introduces a new revolving feature called Autoweek Fleet, where the guys talk about the cars in, well, the Autoweek Press Fleet. This time, Andrew and Wes lead a discussion about the 2020 Porsche 911. Closing the show is Jake’s review of the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. Music: Well, at least I’m not vaping by Summerbruise
