El primer episodio del pódcast Técnica Fórmula 1 de esta semana está marcado por un intenso análisis del arranque de la pretemporada de Fórmula 1 en Baréin, pero también por la revisión detallada del Rally de Suecia. Mal sabor de boca. Los primeros tests de la F1 no han dejado un sabor especialmente alentador, sobre todo para los seguidores españoles, ya que tanto Aston Martin como Williams, equipos donde militan pilotos de nuestro país, han mostrado un rendimiento preocupante y plagado de dificultades técnicas, en el caso del primero; y no excesivamente brillante, en el caso del segundo. Y esos rendimientos, estamos viendo, van a condicionar el comienzo de la temporada. El análisis de las telemetrías y de las declaraciones de los pilotos ha encendido aún más las alarmas. La detección de frenadas extremadamente tempranas y velocidades muy reducidas en curva apunta a un cambio profundo en la naturaleza del pilotaje. La posibilidad de que la categoría esté evolucionando hacia un modelo en el que la gestión energética sea protagonista, devolviendo el peso de la competición casi exclusivamente a las rectas, ha despertado serias dudas entre puristas y expertos. El propio debate dentro del paddock ha sido intenso: mientras figuras como Verstappen y Alonso alertan del empobrecimiento del pilotaje, otros como Leclerc o Russell minimizan el problema. Todo ello alimenta una reflexión incómoda: ¿se está acercando la Fórmula 1 a la Fórmula E más de lo deseado? Y, aún más importante, ¿es eso lo que realmente quiere el aficionado? Titulares de la pretemporada. A pesar del desconcierto general, la pretemporada ha dejado titulares interesantes. El motor Ford-Red Bull ha sorprendido positivamente, Mercedes ha mostrado un poderío inesperado y los problemas de peso y aerodinámica en Williams siguen sin resolverse. Por otro lado (y aún más grave), la situación en Aston Martin ha reactivado viejos fantasmas, con rumores y temores que recuerdan a épocas pasadas de bajo rendimiento. Queda por ver si algún equipo será capaz de situarse por encima del resto desde el primer Gran Premio. Contraste en tierras escandinavas. En contraste con las sombras que sobrevuelan la F1, el Rally de Suecia ha brillado por intensidad y espectáculo. El fin de semana estuvo claramente dominado por Elfyn Evans, cuya actuación fue tan sólida como incontestable. Tras él, destacaron un inspiradísimo Takamoto Katsuta y un sorprendente Sami Pajari, que se afianzaron entre los más competitivos del hielo escandinavo. La otra cara de la moneda fue Oliver Solberg, perjudicado por varios errores tempranos que condicionaron totalmente su participación, pese a su actitud autocrítica y combativa. La prueba sueca, marcada por las exigentes condiciones de nieve y hielo, dejó también un mensaje claro: Toyota continúa exhibiendo un dominio casi abrumador, mientras que Hyundai, una vez más, no estuvo a la altura de las expectativas. La competición ofreció imágenes espectaculares, numerosos incidentes y un desempeño notable por parte de los pilotos españoles, cuya progresión sigue siendo motivo de orgullo para los seguidores nacionales. Mientras la Fórmula 1 no quiere darnos nada de emoción y se oculta, el mundo del motor ya ha vivido tres grandes citas competitivas que han marcado el inicio del año: el Dakar, el Rally de Montecarlo y las 24 Horas de Daytona. Este segundo episodio del Podcast Técnica Fórmula 1 nos pone al día con los últimos eventos, muy distintos, pero unidos por la intensidad, la emoción y la aparición de protagonistas inesperados. Montecarlo y su idilio con la nieve. El Rally de Montecarlo volvió a demostrar por qué es una de las pruebas más especiales del calendario. Nieve, hielo, tramos mojados y condiciones cambiantes ofrecieron un escenario clásico y exigente, en el que el talento al volante marcó la diferencia. El gran nombre propio fue Oliver Solberg, que firmó una actuación sobresaliente y se impuso con autoridad frente a rivales de primer nivel. Ni la regularidad y velocidad de Elfyn Evans ni la experiencia y agresividad de Sébastien Ogier fueron suficientes para frenar al joven piloto, que dominó el rally prácticamente de principio a fin. Toyota volvió a mostrarse como la referencia técnica del campeonato, mientras que Hyundai quedó muy lejos de las posiciones de cabeza y Ford pasó prácticamente desapercibida. Aunque solo se ha disputado una prueba, el rendimiento mostrado plantea interrogantes sobre la capacidad real de sus rivales para plantar cara a la marca japonesa a lo largo de la temporada. Además, el gran momento de forma de Solberg y Evans abre el debate sobre si a Ogier le saldrá a cuenta no disputar el campeonato completo. Daytona: 24 horas dan para mucho. Al otro lado del Atlántico, las 24 Horas de Daytona ofrecieron un espectáculo irregular pero emocionante en su desenlace. La carrera estuvo marcada por una elevada cantidad de neutralizaciones debido a la niebla, lo que restó continuidad y ritmo durante muchas horas. Aun así, las fases finales devolvieron la emoción, con luchas cerradas en prácticamente todas las categorías. Alex Palou volvió a marcharse de Daytona sin el ansiado trofeo, esta vez por una penalización que condicionó el resultado final de su coche. En GTD Pro y GTD, la variedad de marcas y equipos volvió a demostrar la excelente salud de las competiciones de resistencia (y eso nos encanta, después de unos años de bajón), con BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, Ferrari, Corvette y Aston Martin protagonizando una batalla constante hasta la bandera a cuadros. A mal tiempo, buena cara. Mientras la F1 se esconde, el resto del automovilismo ya ha empezado a ofrecer grandes historias, actuaciones memorables y preguntas que solo el paso de las carreras podrá responder. Y es que Montecarlo y Daytona han servido como un potente aperitivo de lo que promete ser una temporada apasionante. Esperemos que la FOM espabile y se una a la fiesta de los aficionados. Arranque de temporada del WRC y, como manda la tradición, el Rally de Montecarlo vuelve a poner a prueba algo más que la velocidad. Hielo, nieve, lluvia, niebla, decisiones límite con los neumáticos y errores constantes marcaron una edición durísima, en la que emergió un nombre propio: Oliver Solberg. El piloto sueco supo leer el rally desde el primer día, atacando cuando tocaba y gestionando cuando el Montecarlo se volvió imprevisible. Frente a dos referentes como Elfyn Evans y Sébastien Ogier, Solberg firmó una victoria histórica que abre de par en par el debate sobre el relevo generacional en el campeonato. El factor neumáticos volvió a ser decisivo: elecciones imposibles entre slicks, compuestos de nieve y clavos que, en muchos casos, decidían el rally tramo a tramo. Toyota Gazoo Racing acertó más que sus rivales en las decisiones estratégicas, mientras el debate quedó servido: ¿lotería excesiva o esencia pura de Montecarlo? En el otro lado de la balanza, Hyundai Motorsport vivió un rally siempre al límite. Esta semana, en el terreno del repaso a lo que ocurrió el fin de semana pasado, tenemos el cuento de hadas del Rally de Estonia, donde Oliver Solberg, tras estrenarse en esta nueva generación de los Rally 1 con Toyota, se llevó la victoria. De eso, y del “bluff” de Ganassi en Toronto, toca hablar en el segundo episodio de la semana del Podcast Técnica Fórmula 1. Estonia: para frotarse los ojos. Sin duda, la victoria de Solberg es una de las mejores noticias de las que hablar. En el Podcast hace ya tiempo que se venía comentando el impresionante desempeño del noruego y, a la primera oportunidad, lo ha demostrado de largo. El Rally de Estonia fue el escenario de una auténtica sorpresa. El joven piloto noruego, en su debut, logró un triunfo contundente ganando 9 de los 20 tramos, incluyendo una destacada actuación en el Súper Domingo. Además, el rally estuvo marcado por varios problemas y accidentes que alteraron las clasificaciones, pero el resultado de Solberg supone una de las mejores noticias de la temporada, posicionándolo como una de las promesas más sólidas de la categoría. Toronto: victoria de O’Ward y mala estrategia en Ganassi. En la Indy tuvimos una carrera loca, maravillosa, llena de emoción, adelantamientos, estrategia y… con un inconmensurable Pato O’Ward, que se llevó una gran victoria ante la debacle del Chip Ganassi, que dio a Palou y a Dixon una estrategia infumable, que les hizo acabar muy atrás. Esta vez la estrategia buena se la dieron en Ganassi a Simpson, que acabó tercero en el podio. O’Ward, por su parte, salía desde la décima posición y aprovechó una elección acertada de neumáticos blandos al inicio, beneficiándose de una temprana bandera amarilla en la vuelta 3 tras el accidente de Scott McLaughlin (que no levanta cabeza). Mientras tanto, Álex Palou, líder del campeonato, apostó por neumáticos duros y una estrategia más conservadora, pero esta se vio comprometida por las sucesivas neutralizaciones en pista. A pesar de haber liderado gran parte de la carrera, Palou se quedó fuera del Top 10 por primera vez en 2025, tras verse obligado a parar en momentos poco favorables debido a varios accidentes, como el de Rossi en la vuelta 30 y el múltiple choque en la vuelta 37. Entonces, O’Ward ejecutó una tercera parada estratégica en la vuelta 59 que lo colocó como líder virtual definitivo, consolidando su segunda victoria de la temporada. Rinus VeeKay y Kyffin Simpson completaron el podio, con Colton Herta y Marcus Ericsson en el Top 5. La lucha por el Campeonato. En el campeonato, O’Ward recortó 30 puntos a Palou, quedando a 99 puntos de distancia cuando restan cuatro carreras. Esto mantiene viva la lucha por el título, aunque Palou sigue siendo el gran favorito, especialmente de cara al próximo GP de Monterey en Laguna Seca, un circuito donde siempre ha estado en el podio. Rally driver and Hoonigan founder, Ken Block, passed away yesterday following a snowmobile accident in Utah. Welcome to episode 17 of the Lovecars on the Grid podcast! Tiff Needell and Paul Woodman bring us the news on the motorsport events from around the World, and this week has been a busy one! We kick off with the dramatic events of Formula 1. We had a Ferrari meltdown at Imola, disappointing the Tifosi after Sainz crashing out in qualifying after a clash with Daniel Ricciardo. Charles LeClerc put his Ferrari into a wall when trying to go for the fastest lap. The Red Bull cars of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez came through, with Verstappen winning the race. 3rd and 4th wen to two British drivers, Lando Norris and George Russell. The support races were dramatic, with a win for Théo Pourchaire in F2, and Roman Stanek in Formula 3. We apologise again to Jonny Edgar for forgetting his name last week and we hope he gets well soon. We had a dramatic weekend in BTCC too, with overtakes involving 3 or 4 cars wide at Donington Park. We also had the Porsches, Ginettas and Minis racing. The highlight of the BTCC for us was Jake Hill, who finished 3rd in the first race, but got thrown out for ride height infringement and put to the back of the grid. He ended up winning the race! Even more drama in the NASCAR race at the Talladega Superspeedway. With the 200MPH back straight, we were expecting lots of incidents. There was just the one crash on the back straight, where cars were four a breadth, causing a massive crash with up to 20 cars off the track as a result. The lead changed 29 times in the last lap, with Kyle Larsson against Erik Jones. We had both World Superbikes and Moto GP this weekend. The Superbikes were at their Dutch round. In the final race, Razgatlioglu and Rea clashed and took each other off the track. Moto GP was very dramatic at the Algarve International Circuit in Portugal. Fabio Quartararo was triumphant on his Yamaha. There was turn 1 drama, with riders out braking each other and taking each other out. The biggest drama on the bikes was in Moto 2, where riders had to flee safety after Zonta Van Den Goorbergh's bike went up in flames. No less than 15 bikes all went down in the same corner, thanks to some rain on the track. Jake Dixon was on pole for the restart, with 7 laps to go. Unfortunately, the drama continued, where he lost his front wheel and lost the pole position with a crash. The most dramatic event of the weekend was at World Rally Championship in Croatia. With poor weather, we had a lot of punctures from the gravel and rocks. We started off with drama, with crashes and punctures from the beginning of the race. We had plenty of crashes, and even flames from Oliver Solberg's car. The drama came down to the last two stages, as Kalle Rovanpera's Toyota was on track for the comfortable win. In the penultimate, 19th stage, we had torrential rain! Rovanpera's ended up losing the lead to Hyundai's Ott Tanak. In the final stage however, Rovanpera managed to claw the win back, a great battle between the two drivers. Next week, we'll be doing this podcast from America! There's no Formula 1, but we have Indycar in Alabama. IMSA Sports cars at Laguna Seca. We have Moto GP at Barcelona, NASCAR and Formula E in Monaco and we have the Superbikes at Oulton Park!

Petter & Oliver Solberg Team for Race of Champions Title 2022 Race of Champions Champions Petter and Oliver Solberg were in The Freak Nation right after their title winning winter run in the Race of Champions. The Solbergs represented Norway in the ROC Nations Cup competition in Sweden. The Father-Son team surprised many with the win. Some called it stunning. Petter's won World driving titles in Rallying and Rallycross. Oliver is just getting his global career underway. Welcome to episode 3 of the 2022 season of Lovecars On The Grid! Tiff Needell and Paul Woodman are back for another roundup of this weeks motorsport! This week, we have more Formula 1 news and the FIA! There's also the Dakar rally, and more to look forward to in the coming weeks! We kick off with the Le Mans 24H virtual race! Formula 1 Champion, Max Verstappen was favourite to win, but after leading and being too heavy on the curbs, the Red Bull driver lost out to British racing driver, Oliver Rowland. In Formula 1, we've had an announcement from the FIA that Mercedes boss, Toto Wolff is in meetings to discuss the race in Abu Dhabi that ended the season in 2021. There's also been Zoom meetings taking place at the FIA to discuss Michael Masi's place in the sport. Mistakes took place in other races too, at Brazil and at Silverstone, not just in Abu Dhabi! Should Masi be outed from the FIA? Is there someone who can replace him? The final decision following the enquiry into the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will be announced on 18th March, four months after the race took place! Elsewhere, Aston Martin have appointed Mike Crack as the Team Principal for the 2022 season. The Dakar Rally ended last week, after a spectacular few days in the desert in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Nasser Al-Attiyah won the race for the cars in his Toyota, having competed 18 times in the Dakar. On the motorbikes, Sam Sunderland won it for the British! In the trucks, the Kamaz team were leading all the way through! We of course had the Dubai 24 hour race at the Dubai Autodrome this weekend. With Audi taking the 1st and 2nd place spots. Out of the 320 drivers, there were only 7 British drivers! Coming up, we have the 90th Monte Carlo rally taking place next week, with drivers such as Sebastien Loeb, Oliver Solberg and Toyota driver, Elfyn Evans all taking part. We of course have the hybrid cars in this season, offering an extra 100HP.
