In the creation of these podcasts dedicated to the history of the American mafia we have given a lot of space to those who have fought against the most powerful criminal association in the world. This was the case of New York Police Lieutenant Joe Petrosino and Detective Frances Dimaio. In this podcast we are dealing with a policeman whose worth, the solved cases and the greening of his memory need to be remembered. Today we are dealing with Michael Fiaschetti. Unjustly known alone and finally as the number two of the Italian Squad. In fact he was the one who inherited the command of the Italian team after the heinous murder of his boss and creator Joe Petrosino. Let's start with some biographical information of Fiaschetti known by friends and colleagues such as Mike.
Theodore Bingham had a secret plan to defeat the Black Hand. it was the development of Petrosino's idea, namely to stem the flow of criminals who emigrated from Italy to the USA. To achieve this, the Police Department would undertake to send the Italian-American police officer to Italy where he would consult the criminal records of the offenders of emigrants to America.
Petrosino was now aware that he was not just a simple employee of the New York Police Department. The policeman felt the responsibility. He probably became a celebrity was the most famous Italian American in the USA. He was troubled by the growing intolerance of Italians on the part of public opinion. In 1904 he began to work out a plan to stop the growing spread of Black Hand crimes.
In addition to the crime of the barrel which we have extensively discussed in previous podcasts, there are so many cases to which the Italian-American policeman devoted himself. As soon as he joined the police, Petrosino adopted techniques that are still part of the investigative activities of current use by the police all over the world.
Despite the arrests carried out by the New York Police Department against members of the Morello gang, the investigations into the crime of the barrel do not seem to bring decisive elements for the resolution of the case. The turning point came with the arrival of an anonymous letter. In which it was written verbatim:“I know who the man found in the barrel is. He came from Buffalo to get some money ... he was convicted of selling counterfeit banknotes. The police have arrested the right people, get inmate Giuseppe Di Primo to Sing Sing, promise him freedom, and he will tell you many things, do as I tell you and you will know everything. We salute you. Your friends S.T. "
Music by Syon (Thomas Nicosia) Prelude in EmThe case of the murder of the barrel passed to Detective Sergeant Arthur Carey. He was the first investigator with experience in homicide cases to conduct the investigation. The sergeant advanced a hypothesis, namely that he was an Italian and that the murder was probably linked to one of the many feuds that took place in Little Italy. For that case, the intervention of the only policeman that the New York Police Department could have successfully investigated, namely Sergeant Joe Petrosino, was required. Following the reading of the newspaper, a character that we have now learned to know and observe has an important clue for the identification of the corpse found inside the barrel. It was the head of the New York Secret Service, the stubborn and brilliant investigator William Flynn.

Lei stesso sceglierà i componenti.”
In the 1900's 'THE BLACK HAND" terrorized the country. Detective Joseph Petrosino dedicated his life to eliminating them.

By 1905, Joseph Petrosino and his Italian Squad were at war with the nefarious Black Hand. As murder, extortion, and bombings plagued the Italian neighborhoods of New York, Petrosino knew that if he wanted to bring down this dead organization, he would have to get creative.
In the mid-1880s, immigrant Joseph Petrosino joined the NYPD as one of the few Italians on the force. Over the next two decades, he proved himself to be one of the most famous detectives in the city. But at the dawn of the 1900s, Petrosino would find himself up against a new kind of threat...called the “Black Hand.”
Comunicazione, esperienza, narrazione (2015), L'idolo.
Lt. Joseph Petrosino, NYPD, made it his mission to take down the notorious extortion and crime ring known as “The Black Hand,” which infiltrated New York City’s immigrant communities and others across the nation, having roots within the Sicilian Mafia. After arresting some of the major organized crime figures of the 1890s and 1900s, Lt. Petrosino went undercover to Sicily to weed out major crime leaders there, only to be assassinated after then-NYPD Commissioner Theodore Bingham told the city press about the mission.Ask The Lawyer - Connors' Corner Conversations interviews Author Stephen Talty who chronicled Lt. Petrosino’s exploits, leadership, arrests and investigations in his 2017 book, “The Black Hand.” A movie based on the book has been commissioned, potentially to star Leonardo DiCaprio.

The idea that gut health is central to our total health goes back thousands of years, but it's been largely absent from modern medicine and science until very recently. In my practice as a medical doctor and herbalist, I see the gut as the epicenter of health. It's often one of the first areas of the body that I work on for helping my patients with many, many different types of conditions. What we know about the health of the newborn and the newborn's microbiome for example, how childhood and lifelong health can be altered by cesarean section or introduction of antibiotics to the mom in labor or at the time of the c-section, is eye-opening and just a tip of the iceberg on why the microbiome is something we should all know how to support and protect. Today I want to introduce you to one of the world's leading microbiome experts, Dr. Joseph Petrosino. Dr Petrosino is a Professor and Interim Chairman of the Department of Molecular Virology and Microbiology at Baylor College of Medicine where he's also the Director of the Alkek Center for Metagenomics and Microbiome Research. This week, we speak with Petrosino about her work, and continue our series on remarkable, untold stories from black history -- this time, in the world of sports.
