Phil's career has been an incredible rollercoaster ride spanning nearly three decades. Starting from humble beginnings as a writer, he has ascended to the position of Chief Executive at Ascential. Along the way, Phil has encountered numerous challenges and obstacles, but his unwavering determination and hard work have ultimately paid off. Today, he is not only a highly respected leader in his field but also a profound source of inspiration for many. During his time at an academic school, Phil struggled immensely, despite putting forth his best efforts. He was persistently advised to "work harder," unaware of the underlying reason for his difficulties: dyslexia. While studying photography in college, Phil found himself drawn to Africa, where he expanded his portfolio. Throughout his travels, he began writing articles, leveraging his photography knowledge. It was during this period that Phil discovered his passion for writing. His articles garnered widespread acclaim, leading to numerous accolades. Fueled by this newfound passion, Phil finally had the opportunity to pursue his lifelong dream career. Through sheer dedication, Phil achieved remarkable success, ultimately assuming the role of editor at 'Empire,' the United Kingdom's most popular movie magazine. His accomplishments in the publishing industry continued to flourish as he became the Managing Director of FHM worldwide, successfully introducing the renowned men's magazine to over 30 countries. However, Phil soon recognised that the magazine industry's fortunes were waning and sought out a new path. In search of a rapidly growing field, he made the pivotal decision to transition his career into events management. In 2006, Phil embarked on a significant career move when he was appointed CEO of Cannes Lions after a rigorous interview process. Despite lacking prior experience in advertising or event management, Phil faced an arduous challenge: transforming this event into a cultural phenomenon of genuine importance. Joining Emap at the young age of 23, Phil quickly climbed the ranks, ultimately reaching the position of Chief Executive at Ascential Futures, formerly known as Emap. His unwavering passion propelled him along this career trajectory. In addition to his professional achievements, Phil also serves as the Chair of Media Trust, a charity committed to enhancing diversity within the creative industries. Recognised as one of the Agents of Change for Gender Equality by the UK's Management Today magazine, he continues to make a profound impact in this regard. To gain insights from Philip himself on following your passion, harnessing the power of creativity, and overcoming dyslexia, listen to his episode on 'How I Became.' Philip Thomas is one of only a handful of people to have truly made a lasting impact upon the business journey of Nick himself, and in this very special episode, you’ll find out exactly why. Philip’s is an iconic name in publishing, media and marketing; the man behind such prestigious brands as Cannes Lion, FHM and Empire. During his association with Nick, he has passed on lessons about such subjects as authenticity, vision, leadership and integrity. In today’s conversation, Philip shares his insights and experience with the goal of helping you to build relationships and strong leadership in order to find success. KEY TAKEAWAYS There is no more powerful marketing tool than focusing in upon your ideal customer, and making them seem as attractive as possible to all other customers. This was the belief behind FHM, which marketed to 25 year-old men, and made all other men desirous of their status. Attraction comes through focus. By pinpointing your specific archetype, you increase not only awareness, but interest. So much of business is about relationships. If you have time to spend on any pursuit, it should always be in building the bridges and foundations that can take you higher. Zeroing in on our core values is crucial, as are the behaviours we adopt. But when we define our business strategy, we should not ignore it. It should be the lens through which we see each decision. BEST MOMENTS ‘If you’re in a market that’s floating up, it’s always a good place to be’ ’25 looks like a hell of a lot of fun!’ ’The more focused you are, the more you please everyone’ ‘We need to encapsulate in a sentence, our purpose. What is it that we as a company do?' Thank you and God Bless you all of our Loyal Fans, Friends and Family!! https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/wonderful-time-feat.-blacksmith/id871204635 Biography Like Earth, Wind & Fire and Kool & the Gang before them, Crown Heights Affair artfully bridged the gap between funk and disco, guaranteeing their records new life via sampling by successive generations of rappers and DJs. Originally dubbed New Day Express, the group formed in Brooklyn, NY, in 1967, originally comprising lead vocalist Philip Thomas, guitarist William "Bubba" Anderson, bassist Arnold "Muki" Wilson, keyboardist Stan Johnson, and drummer Raymond "Sugar Ray" Rock. Crown Heights Affair's roster soon expanded to include saxophonist Darryl Gibbs, trumpeter James Baynard, and trombonist Julius Dilligard, Jr., and in 1973 they signed to RCA, releasing their self-titled debut LP the following year. While a hit in New York, the first single, "Super Rod," failed to earn attention across the rest of the country, and when the follow-ups "Leave the Kids Alone" and "Special Kind of Woman" met the same fate, the group was left without a label. At that point Johnson, Gibbs, Baynard, and Dilligard all resigned from Crown Heights Affair, with Howie Young joining on keyboards, Tyrone Demmons coming in on trumpet, and siblings Bertram and Raymond Reid playing saxophone and trombone, respectively. This lineup signed to De-Lite, home to kindred spirits Kool & the Gang, and in 1975 Crown Heights Affair issued its sophomore effort, Dreaming a Dream, with an extended disco mix of the title cut cracking the R&B Top Five and the pop Top 50; "Every Beat of My Heart" and "Foxy Lady" soon followed, further establishing the group's growing reputation among clubgoers. Percussionist Skip Boardley joined the lineup with 1976's Do It Your Way; although the first single, "Dancin'," was a rather shameless knockoff of Isaac Hayes' classic "Theme from 'Shaft'," sales were again respectable, even if the LP's second single, "Do It the French Way," failed to generate much attention. 1978's Dream World was buoyed by De-Lite's new international distribution deal with Polygram. Virtually overnight Crown Heights Affair emerged as major fan favorites in the U.K., with the singles "Galaxy of Love" and "I'm Gonna Love You Forever" both reaching the British pop charts. While the title cut to 1979's Dance Lady Dance was another British hit, the album flopped stateside, prompting Crown Heights Affair to recruit producer Bert DeCoteaux, known for hits with Sister Sledge; the resulting Sure Shot remains a minor masterpiece, highlighted by the disco classic "You Give Me Love," a Top Ten U.K. pop hit during the summer of 1980. But the general public's interest in disco soon took a nosedive, and Crown Heights Affair spent the next two years on hiatus. Minus keyboardist Young, the group resurfaced in 1982 with Think Positive, a failed attempt to update their sound to current tastes. After one final effort, 1983's Struck Gold, Crown Heights Affair split. Bert Reid went on to enjoy some success as a producer, helming Denroy Morgan's underground smash "I'd Do Anything for You" as well as sessions for Unlimited Touch ("I Hear Music in the Streets"), Raw Silk ("Do It to the Music"), and Barbara Tucker ("Stay Together"). As vintage Crown Heights Affair grooves found their way onto latter-day hip-hop and R&B records. Un an plus tard, ils sortent « Do it your way » avec des titres tels « Dancin' », « Music is the way » ou encore « French way ». Crown Heights Affair, suite et fin En 1979, le groupe sort « Dance lady dance », un album qui comprend 6 titres dont « The rock is hot », « Come fly with me » ou encore « Empty soul of mine ».
These Apostles fulfilled Jesus’ mandate to take the gospel to the uttermost parts of the world. The focus of our documentation of the church, after it spread from Jerusalem, was to the west. We lose access to documents from the Eastern Church, but there are ancient records with information that can be considered, but not always reliable. Follow the biographical information available for these Apostles from scripture and historical tradition. Learn what we can know of their lives, the area of their ministries, confusions that may have been caused by names, relationships and martyrdoms. Erase any doubt with the understanding that Judas Iscariot was not a believer. As church age believers, what is our mandate?
