At age 11, Michelle was permanently disabled in a car accident that froze her growth at 4' 4” and left her needing crutches to walk. By her own admission, she wasn't just physically small – she used to live her life emotionally small. The hardest part of living with a visible disability was the shame and unworthiness she carried in her heart and mind. So she embarked on what began as just a physical fitness journey – and evolved into a life-transformation journey when she decided to join her gym mates in their quest to climb Machu Picchu in Peru. She hiked up the 26 miles of ascending trail 8-10 hours a day. She had to bandage her wrists so they wouldn't break as they took a load of her body weight with every step on her crutches. She ultimately ascended the peak … crawling on her hands and knees at the end, to the cheers of those in her party who had been strangers at the outset of the journey. When she came home, she was changed forever. Michelle is now a Visibility Marketing Coach, Author and Speaker who is inspiring lives all over the world. Her zest for life, fun-loving personality and ready smile is proof that no matter what life brings, you CAN find strength from within! So much of our modern discourse around productivity, empowerment, entrepreneurship, and personal growth includes messages about our bodies. These messages might not be explicit, but the messages are there—and our brains pick them up loud and clear.Similarly, we might not realize that we're sharing messages that insert themselves into how others perceive their own bodies—but many of us are. It's impossible to talk about self-discipline, accountability, or efficiency without those concepts leaving their marks on our flesh. This episode covers a tiny sliver of all the ways that the medium of self-help acts on our bodies. But my hope is that it will encourage you to think critically about the messages you receive about your body and the messages you share that might impact others' bodies. You'll hear from independent beauty culture journalist Jessica DeFino, body confidence influencer Tiffany Ima, and Flaunt Your Fire founder India Jackson. This episode contains frank talk about bodies, weight, beauty, dieting, and related topics. I know that these subjects can trigger harmful thoughts and behaviors for me if I'm not careful. On episode # 31 of the Blossom Your Awesome Podcast I am talking to visibility and confidence coach Michelle Kuei. Michelle is a remarkable light who is teaching people how to overcome obstacle and use our challenges to find purpose. We all have hardships in life, but Michelle is on another level with understanding life and all of its trivial ups and downs. At the age of 11 Michelle was struck by a car that left her with a permanent disability. This has been her greatest obstacle and she has overcome it with inner resilience and immense grace. She is a beacon of light that holds so much wisdom for us all. She seems to have things figured out regarding adversity with this deeper innate sense of wisdom she has carried with her throughout her life. Her triumph over tragedy is a remarkable story of inspiration and hope. So if you ever have a moment of feeling sorry for yourself or like a victim look to the power within. This is the work Michelle does with her clients today teaching people how to let go of fear and self judgements, let go of the victimhood and be your most awesome you. She teaches people how to face their challenges head on and overcome adversity in the most empowered way. It was truly an absolute honor and delight to have Michele on the show sharing her wisdom and insights with her. She left me touched and moved deeply. I commend her for the path she walks and the magical way in which she is lighting up the world. We need more like her. Michelle Kuei is no slouch when it comes to overcoming life's most significant challenges. Standing approximately 4 feet tall, she has climbed Machu Pichu even if others discouraged her. She'd instead choose to die trying than go back on her choices. Overcoming life's obstacles has been part of her daily life ever since she had her accident when she was 11. In this podcast, Michelle wanted to impart how discipline and courage to overcome life's obstacles helped her do more when others thought she couldn't. Jay Shifman is an open book. A vulnerable storyteller and stigma-destroying speaker, podcaster, and event host, Jay's story of struggle is familiar to the millions of people the world over who also struggle with issues of mental health, substance misuse, and addiction. Now in long-term recovery, it is Jay's mission to encourage difficult conversations and honest education concerning these and similar struggles. Jay founded his company, Choose Your Struggle, in 2015 with two distinct goals; ending stigma and ensuring that those who struggle receive the help they deserve. A fervent believer in radical honesty and the simple fact that neither struggle nor recovery should be treated as a one-size-fits-all experience, Jay uses his voice, and his platforms to educate, entertain, and empower. Looking to make these conversations even more accessible, Jay launched the Choose Your Struggle podcast in early 2020. In a short amount of time, Choose Your Struggle is already in the top .2% of worldwide listenership and has cracked numerous top lists and venerable rankings. The show combines vulnerable storytelling and expert education around the topics of mental health, substance misuse & recovery, and drug use & policy. Past guests have included former congress member Katie Hill, celebrated authors John Hudak and Gregg Clunis, and advocates Tessa Xuan, Elizabeth Mckissick, and Michelle Kuei. An accomplished orator in his own right, Jay has numerous speaking and storytelling events to his name. He prides himself on his practiced approach of drawing in the listener while discussing hard topics in a way that puts a human face on struggles that we often discuss in a dehumanizing way. Not content with only one platform, in 2021 Jay began producing two narrative event series, Rock Bottom Storytellers and A Day in the Life, which give voice to shared experiences, normalize discussing periods of struggle, and seek to build a community around our shared cultural love of a good story! Both events are currently virtual with the hope that in a post-covid world they can be produced for a stage near you! Holding a BA in Psychology from Northern Kentucky University and with over a decade of lived and professional experience in the field, Jay has put in numerous hours of independent learning acquiring certifications in mental health, substance misuse and addiction, and drug policy. Through the long and painful process of recovery, Kuei made surprising discoveries about loss, identity, and personal strength—revelations that helped guide her through her journey as an immigrant to the United States. With radical honesty bolstering her storytelling, Kuei shows us how positive transformation can happen when we let go of self-pity, embrace our flaws, and learn to love ourselves. Michelle Kuei is Dr. Brad Miller's guest on Episode 179 of "The Beyond Adversity Podcast." Aside from being a Master Practitioner of the Energy Leadership Index and a Certified Career Coach who employs proprietary tools to assist clients in uncovering and identifying blind spots in their professional and personal lives, she is a pharmacist who runs the elevate life coaching.org coaching program. Her coaching approach is solely based on educating women on becoming more confident and empowered, which will keep them on track to achieve their goals. Born in Taiwan, Michelle had a terrible accident, which forced her to go in and out of the operating room. The doctor issued metal shoes and crutches until she turned 18 when her bones would be more structurally solid. Because she was a rebellious adolescent, she refused to follow the doctor's advice and regularly removed the equipment, forcing herself to walk independently. Every year it became more difficult for her to walk great distances, so she required help from someone, and that someone was her mother. It got to the point that her mother had to accompany her to job interviews. She has been on crutches for the past 47 years. Michelle got deeply wounded, not just physically but emotionally. As a result of the accident, she got enraged, oblivious to other people's pain and uncaring to their feelings, struggled with self-esteem as she approached puberty because she wasn't like the other females her age. She felt confused and unsure of her place in the world. Michelle understood that, even if life was difficult for her due to her condition, she had two choices: have her life cut short or find a way to shift her perspective and conquer all of the issues she was encountering. Michelle discussed how she overcame an injury that had caused her so much pain and hatred in her life. She discusses what she almost did, such as terminating her life and how those experiences changed her life. She talked about how she gained confidence in her skin. She wants to help women become more self-aware and self-loving as a coach and authors so they can go out into the world and claim their place. Michelle emphasizes that physical is not restricted and that we may live our lives despite our limited physical mobility by asking ourselves what our purpose is. It necessitates knowledge of oneself, and it requires us to comprehend our inner reality and think beyond our physique. Episode 179 of The Beyond Adversity Podcast is a must-listen for anyone who wants to hear an inspirational story about a woman who succeeded despite her limited physical mobility. Michelle Kuei's story is inspiring, empowering, and significant proof that we can overcome our adversaries if we learn to live beyond our physicality. It all boils down to the idea that you can achieve anything if you set your heart and your mind to that particular goal and do it. “The Beyond Adversity Podcast with Dr. Brad Miller is published weekly with the mission of helping people “Grow Through What They Go Through” as they navigate adversity and discover their promised life of peace, prosperity, and purpose. Welcome back to BeREAL! Diana is hosting on her own again this week, but she is once again joined by a special guest. Michelle Kuei is here to talk about all things confidence coaching as well as to share her amazing story. Michelle Kuei is a motivational speaker, author, and visibility coach who helps women coaches and entrepreneurs to courageously & confidently tell stories to get seen, heard, and hired. She is the Founder of Elevate Life Coaching and the author of the memoir “Perfectly Normal-an immigrant's story of making it in America.” Michelle was born in Taiwan and grew up in New York, but today she lives in Los Angeles with her ginger short-hair tabby cat-Toby, who is working his way to take over the social media publicity. Michelle begins the episode by getting right into her story. Before immigrating to the United States, Michelle lived in Taiwan, where one day she was crossing the street and got hit by a taxi. She can barely recall the event, but she has been told by witnesses what happened. After the accident, Michelle was seriously injured, she now needs to walk with crutches and alter her clothes. Michelle struggled to remain confident when others would ask her “What's wrong with you?” She began to take this in and believe that something truly was wrong with her. It wasn't until she was fourty that she realized that she had enough of feeling uninspired and wishing that she wasn't where she was in life. That is when she learned that asking for help was okay. So, she set goals for herself and asked for help to achieve them. One of those goals was to climb Machu Picchu. Michelle then proceeds to tell the story of her going to Peru and climbing Machu Picchu. She recounts getting sick the night before the hike, the initial ascent, and when she was told to abandon her goal and go back down. The leader of the group she was in decided that the climb was too dangerous for Michelle and advised her to descend the slope before she had reached the top. However, Michelle made a hard personal decision. She decided she wanted to finish the climb or die climbing. After a short break, Michelle returns to tell about reaching the top of the mountain. She describes the feeling of seeing the sign designating she had reached the peak. She tells about the many people who congratulated her at the top. However, the climb was not over, she still had to make it back down. After finishing her story about Machu Picchu, Michelle tells listeners about the confidence coaching services she provides at Elevate Life Coaching. The mission of the program is to have people realize their confidence so they can tell their stories just as Michelle has learned to do. Thank you for tuning into BeREAL this week. Ever since the age of 11, Michelle Kuei has been followed by an invisible checkbox. Similar to the checkboxes you fill out on job or college applications, this unseen checkbox represents the assumptions that people make about Michelle with just a cursory glance. Michelle has a visible disability: she walks on crutches as a result of a car accident she was involved in during her early years. The resulting damage was permanent and has affected the labels people automatically ascribe to her ever since. Now a success coach, founder of Elevate Life Coaching, Michelle didn't always have such a positive outlook. She explains that for many years, she was consumed by frustration, anger and sadness about her disability and the limitations it forced upon her. However, Michelle tells listeners that one day she woke up and decided to stop feeling sorry for herself. After avoiding the gym for most of her life, Michelle got a gym membership, a personal trainer, and ultimately climbed Machu Picchu! This feat inspired Michelle to quit her job as a pharmacist and become a full-time coach, motivating others to turn their dreams into realities. Tune into this week's episode of Breaking Labels for a poignant conversation with Michelle about turning limitations into possibilities. Learn about the differences between passion and purpose, the transformational power of rejection, and why discovering your “why” is the first step towards achieving lifelong fulfillment.Quotes• “Any human being going through their life – we're always looking for some type of success. I got up in the morning – great success. I finished my coffee or got to my coffee – great success. I think success to a lot of people is just being able to show up and do the things that they want to do in their life, and feel accomplished, feel satisfied, feel fulfilled.” (05:20-05:44)• “I was done feeling sorry for myself, and I was done accepting those no's when someone answered. I wanted that yes, and that yes needed to come from me.” (07:23-07:31)• “I keep adjusting, adapting in order to fit in, to manage my everyday activity…. There are a lot of realistic challenges that just show up regardless of how smart I am, how good I am, how talented I am. There's limitation all around.” (12:54-14:20)• “There's that invisible checkbox walking around next to you, and people just check off, ‘Oh, disabled. Let me give her special treatment.'....You start to believe that there are so many limitations on yourself that there's no way that you can achieve anything at all because you've been labeled as disabled or handicapped or abnormal.'” (19:15-20:26)• “Physical work, taking care of our physical needs, it's actually the low hanging fruit. There are so many different things that we can address on a daily basis that would help us get going or achieve more goals, right? But the physical is the most easy to access.” (38:20-38:37)• “I think that should be the number one, top question on all job applications, all college applications: ‘Why do you believe that this is your purpose? Why do you believe this is important to you?'” (45:06-45:20)LinksConnect with Michelle Kuei:• Website: http://elevatelifecoaching.org• IG: https://www.instagram.com/elevatelifecoach/• FB: https://www.facebook.com/groups/theconfidencelab• LI: https://www.linkedin.com/in/michelle-kuei/• Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCn1sZpJJvPUQ8YVfEujhkDw?view_as=subscriber• Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/5Lx5u5s0frBQY7PFWBv3i0?si=FjP0QBOyQdee0fsO7a8-fw&nd=1Connect with host Rosanna Gill and Breaking Labels:• https://www.instagram.com/breakinglabelspodcast/• https://breakinglabelspodcast.com/• https://www.instagram.com/rosanna.e.gill/Have a scenario where you asked or said something that offended someone, but you don't know why? Today I am sharing my conversion with Michelle Kuei. Michelle is a confidence & leadership coach, and she's also the author of a new memoir called, “Perfectly Normal: an immigrant's story of making it in America.” Michelle's journey started when she was permanently disabled as a result of a hit-and-run car accident when I was 11 years old. She grew up here in America where beauty is weighted heavily on appearance, so the stories that she told herself were harsh, and often cruel. Michelle's story is one of courage, determination, as she was forced to look inward and face her own judgments and harsh criticism before being able to let go and face the judgments from strangers. These days, Michelle helps people all over the world let go of their own harsh judgments, and accept themselves with unconditional love. She is on a mission to share her positivity with the world. Enjoy!

In this exciting episode of the Holistic Wealth podcast with Keisha Blair, our very special guest is Michelle Kuei, Founder of Elevate Life Coaching. Michelle is a certified confidence & leadership coach and author of a new memoir entitled “Perfectly Normal: An Immigrant's Story of Making it in America”. Michelle has a PHD in Pharmacy, and is a certified life coach. It is estimated that 70% of people experience imposter syndrome at some point in their lives. Imposter syndrome affects people from all walks of life. Michelle works with negative self-talkers to discover their inner strength and beauty by overcoming the fear of judgment. Michelle opens up on the Holistic Wealth podcast about her suicide attempt – and how she overcame her suicidal thoughts and suicide ideation. With Meghan Markle's Oprah interview just a few days ago – we thought this would be a great episode to continue the discussion surrounding mental health and how important it is to us all. For many years, Michelle allowed her negative beliefs to rule her life. The idea of loving herself felt strange. She was afraid to be seen and known. In order to be seen and known, she would need to tell and explain about her disability. Michelle is permanently disabled as a result of a hit and run car accident when she was 11 years old. Growing up in a society and culture where beauty is weighted heavily on appearance, the stories that she told herself were harsh, brutal, and cruel. Michelle's story is one of courage, determination, and vulnerability. But more importantly, it is about having the confidence to face fear in everyday life. Facing our own worst enemy, facing our own judgments and harsh criticism. By letting go of her own judgments, she allowed herself to flow freely. She accepted herself for all her strengths, beauty, and flaws. She accepts that she is not the perfect hourglass shape and accepts herself just the way she is no matter how others see her. Michelle is now on a mission to share this positivity with the world. Your Host - Paul Wilson WHAT I DO: I help people with an alcohol problem get sober, stay sober and take back control of their lives. WHO I WORK WITH: I partner with business owners, executives, and those with high pressure targets. HOW IT WORKS: We start with a free strategy call. If we agree that we're a good fit, we'll diary three sessions, usually about a week apart. WHAT OTHERS SAY: "I’d been drinking alcohol on a regular basis for several decades, always thinking I’d stop one day. I heard about Paul’s work and decided to give it a try. What did I have to lose? After years of struggling with my issue, I was blown away with how easy it was to change. Paul has a calming, grounded energy and I immediately felt at ease in his presence. Despite the obvious apprehension prior to my first session, I was able to totally relax and be in the moment from the outset. The urge to drink alcohol literally disappeared overnight. There were a few fleeting moments where I thought about it briefly, but these soon faded once the change was embedded into my subconscious. The whole process took a mere 3 weeks, which I found astounding. I would thoroughly recommend Paul as a practitioner for making positive changes in your life. He was incredibly supportive during the process. I didn’t need any help between sessions, but he offers this as part of the service. At the end he even guided me through the methods I could use on myself for any other change work I wanted to do. I have tried this at home and it works. This week my guest is the lovely and incredibly inspirational Michelle Kuei. Michelle is one of most delightful people I've had the good fortune to talk to, and her positivity is infectious. Since reinventing her life in 2016, Michelle started Elevate Life Coaching in order to help people reclaim their power and find clarity in their own lives. Her focus on removing illusion and ignorance allows the people she works with to focus on what they can do rather than on what they can't, abandoning the fear that holds them back - something I've only recently been able to understand myself. She's released a book recently called Perfectly Normal: An Immigrant's Story of Making it in America that details her personal story that you can order from elevatelifecoaching.org or Amazon. -- If you'd like to support Sod's Law you can become a Sod's Law patron at patreon.com/sodspod from as little as £1 /$1 a month - there are different tiers including ad-free episodes, giveaways and more!

In this interview, Michelle shares her story and how she learned to deal with her insecurities. She talks about ways we can overcome negative self-talk, overcome major life transitions and become a leader in our life.

Perhaps many people today have ever heard of the word “Inner Critics”? “negative self-talk”? or “Impostor Syndrome”? Michelle Kuei is a transition coach and an author of a new memoir call “Perfectly Normal: an immigrant's story of making it in America” She works with clients experiencing life changes to overcome the fear for judgments by providing them with skills and inspirations they need to discover inner strength and beauty that allows them to be heard, seen and known. Her story is one of courage, determination, and vulnerability. But more importantly, it is about having the confidence to face fear in everyday life. Facing our own worst enemy, facing our own judgments and harsh criticism. By letting go of her own judgments, she allowed who she is to flow freely. She allowed herself to accept her with unconditional love. She accepts herself for all the strength, beauty and flaws. She accepts she is not in the perfect hour-glass shape and she accepts her just the way she is no matter how others see her. There was always that part of her inside that wanted to be seen and to be heard. she lives to inspire and teach others to do the same. She has walked through the battle to be here with you and she came to give that light to you. Why? Because we do not have to fight this battle alone.
