In this podcast, Dr. Roy Smith dives into his extensive experience working with family businesses and counseling clients. Dr. Smith openly shares about growing up in a dysfunctional family environment and how it has paved the way for becoming a therapist. He emphasizes the importance of acknowledging the emotional history of previous generations when working with families. Recognizing and connecting with people in the spiritual sense is highly prioritized among his work. In this conversation, Dr. Smith includes points on prioritizing personal growth and taking the responsibility for one's own “lostness” rather than trying to change others. Developing empathy starts with gaining a deeper understanding of oneself. He advocates for granting the next generation the freedom to individualize while remaining as an integral part of the family and business structure. Highlighting that challenges and setbacks provide opportunities for growth, Dr. Smith states the value of using one's struggles and failures as a catalyst for personal development when faced head-on. God uses both comfort and discomfort to create environments that are conducive to spiritual prosperity. Overall, this episode ventures into the transformative power of facing our own issues, fostering empathy, allowing the next generation change while still being part of the system, and reframing hardships as opportunities for growth rather than obstacles to be avoided. Dr. Roy Smith's insights provided valuable wisdom for both family businesses and the journey of individual development. Key Points: View struggles and failures as opportunities for growth rather than things to avoid. The importance of acknowledging issues from previous generations in a family business and dealing with underlying emotional history. Developing empathy by understanding ourselves more fully. In this episode, I'm joined by Roy Smith, CEO and founder of PrivacyCheq, a privacy tech company that develops privacy-enhancing technologies for mobile and web. We discuss the history of online privacy and data protection laws, current challenges within the ad tech space, and GPC, a newly proposed web standard for signaling privacy preferences.-----------Thank you to our sponsor, Privado, the developer friendly privacy platform-----------A most common myth that Roy sees end-users buying into is that cookie banners are all that a company need deploy for compliance with modern privacy and data protection laws. Roy breaks down how adtech companies use "the cookie myth" to distort how people perceive what's required for operational compliance. He illustrates the tsunami of global privacy regulations related to adtech and the limitations that exist due to siloed consent data. We dive deeper into the W3C's newly proposed Global Privacy Control (GPC) specification and how GPC lets users signal their desired privacy levels just by browsing the web. Roy unpacks why it was developed and what problems it solves on a legal level. He also highlights his concern that implementing GPC will create a false sense of privacy as GPC signals depart from consumer expectations. Mark Wiley, Will George and Dave Dagostino host NY Mets Scout Roy Smith. A former top draft pick (Pitcher), Roy has been successful as a scout and in the front office. He gives great insight on the place of analytics and the need for pitchers to find a sense of self awareness. "If someone else is constantly leading you, you'll never learn or ultimately succeed." At the feet of some of the greats like Doc Edwards and Billy Conners, Smith exhibits a refreshing approach that promotes a high agency mentality ... toe the mound every fifth day and go as deep as possible in the game. A bright star in the game, Roy goes all the way back to the beginning when a bright eyed NY high schooler had to decide between pro ball and Stanford. Seaver, Carlton, Darling, Vukovich, and many more contributed tohis success in and around the diamond ... but maybe no one messaged influenced him more than lessons he learned on the hardwood from high teammates the McCray brothers (Scooter and Rodney).
Roy Smith is an entrepreneur and the CEO of PrivacyCheq, a company that helps mobile apps comply with privacy regulations. PrivacyCheq was the first company to offer cookieless consent-based management tools in 2016. Roy has over 35 years of experience branding and marketing new technologies designed to disrupt the market. As an engineer-turned-executive, Roy has been successful in building numerous companies from the ground up. In this episode… With US states adopting a host of new privacy laws and regulations, website cookies no longer meet consent requirements, forcing companies to employ alternative data collection methods. So, how can you convert to a cookieless digital space to stay compliant and protect your customer's data? According to Roy Smith, complying with updated privacy laws requires modifying your website. PrivacyCheq streamlines this process by adapting to each state's privacy laws so you can update your policies accordingly. And with PrivacyCheq's cloud-based technology, you can store your customer's data in convenient locations so they can easily access it and customize their preferences. In today's episode of She Said Privacy/He Said Security, Jodi and Justin Daniels talk with Roy Smith, CEO of PrivacyCheq, about complying with privacy regulations in a post-cookies world. Roy shares tips for companies to comply with consent laws, how impending privacy regulations will affect organizations, and the ways PrivacyCheq simplifies the consent process for businesses.

Fordham Intellectual Property, Media & Entertainment Law Journal
COPPA! Following up on a blog post (http://www.fordhamiplj.org/2016/11/08/musical-lys-coppas-flaws/) concerning the new, popular app Muscial.ly and its young user base, highlighting the flaws of Coppa, the Fordham IPLJ Podcast interviewed Roy Smith, the founder and CEO of PrivacyCheq to further discuss COPPA and its interaction with the mobile game industry. Coppa was enacted in 1998 for the purpose of limiting what information companies can collect about children under the age of 13 without parental consent. The law went into effect in 2000 and was amended in 2013 to, amongst other things, broaden the type of information regulated. Since the time of the legislation’s inception many companies have struggled to comply and have frequently been unsuccessful. Roy will take listeners through some of Coppa's "loopholes." There is obviously a perverse incentive to be willfully blind, which will be discussed from a privacy policy perspective. Furthermore, the podcast will touch on how Coppa should be enforced, who should enforce the regulations, how can the government achieve better compliance, and how are other countries reacting to our Coppa laws. Finally, the podcast touches on general policies in privacy law including a thought provoking discussion on the "reasonable expectation" of privacy in society.
Dr. Chris Griffin Show: Simple Practice Breakthroughs to Make Your Life Easier
The Butterfly Effect is very real and very misunderstood leaving most dentists unaware that they have just shot a hole in the middle of their production goals without even realizing it. Solving this mysterious phenomenon cures most ills. This week we continue down the path we started in episode 9 from our Live presentation from OKC. This should be called the name dropping episode as we cover people who have altered my own path from Drs. Paddi Lund, Roy Smith, Scott Perkins to celebrities like Tubby Smith, Bobby Knight, and John Calipari. You will learn: How to know when you are under the influence of the Butterfly Effect and how you can harness its power to explode your daily production. How to learn how to make “God’s Band-Aid” and when and where you can apply it. How we solved the problem of being in a factory town and how you can use our lessons to make the roots of your practice go so deep that it can survive any drought that might come your way. The AHA moment that changed the course of my career forever and how you can find your own AHA that can give you the life you always wanted. And Much, Much More… (#) The Dr. Chris Griffin Show – Season 1 Episode 11 “You can get totally messed up trying to please everyone with what you do but ultimately, you have to please yourself.” Now who said that? Welcome to the Dr. Chris Griffin Show. Your resource for leveraging systems and technology to easier workload, increase productivity and provide you with the time off you deserve to live the life of your dreams. It’s time to practice productivity in the passionate pursuit of a better life with your host, Dr. Chris Griffin. The Dr. is in. Yes of course, everyone knows that quote, right? Well, I don’t expect you guys to get all these quotes and actually this time I pulled it from the world of entertainment; more so than the world of history or business greatness. You know that’s what I usually like to do on these things but however I am a gigantic fan of the person who provided us with this quote. I’m going to give you guys a little hint, okay? Forgive me for being off tune about this. Dum dada damdumdumdum .... Okay, like that was really terrible. But just imagine as the James Bond thing music and the guy that provided that wonderful quote was none other than Pierce Brosnan, the James Bond before Daniel Craig. So and that’s probably not even my second favorite Bond but hey, the guy was still awesome, you got to admit. I am a huge James Bond fan so, hey I think that quote works. And it really works well with what I’m going to talk about today. And I am going to take you guys back to be a little fly on the wall in Oklahoma City from the lecture I gave a few weeks ago now. Because the stuff that really, I cannot duplicate what happened there. It was just a lot of it was off the cuff. I can’t even remember how I put things if I tried to but the way it came out was wonderful. I’ve gotten, really maybe more good feedback from that lecture than any lecture I’ve done in a while. So let me take you guys back there and we’re going to delve into a lot of stuff. Starting with a little bit of what happened after the fire in my office, if you don’t already know. And working our way to some other big topics like how I try to certify myself to success; my fear of marketing, fear of letting myself try to do more same day dentistry. Big things like that and what was holding me back and you guys are going to get a ton of value added today. So with no further ado, let’s travel back in time and go back to Oklahoma City. So here’s the next, so I’m like you know, I’m seeing…I know I screwed up at this point and I know that this bonus system is unsustainable. This is pre fire. And so I went to a lecture and I heard a guy from Australia speak, Dr. Paddi Lund, everybody ever heard him talk? I’m just hating myself, these guys are referred to as popular 10 to 15 years ago. But...

Late in 2013 Roy Smith, founder of AgeCheq, helped us understand the implications that COPPA is going to have on the mobile app industry. COPPA is the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act and we've all been waiting for something to happen - for the FTC to find and fine the first infractor. Roy promised to come back and explain the findings when this actually happened and, just this past month, the FTC levied fines on two companies - Yelp and TinyCo - for COPPA-related violations. Roy held up his end of the bargain and here is that conversation. We talk about the infractions against the two companies, the implications on both Yelp and TinyCo and our industry as well as a list of 5 tips to ensure you are - and remain - COPPA-compliant.
