#740 Show Notes: https://wetflyswing.com/740   Presented by: Northern Rockies Adventures In this episode, we dive into the remote and wild fishing experiences offered by Northern Rockies Adventures with Daniel Schildknecht, Phil Rowley, and Lance Egan. From chasing Northern Pike, Lake Trout, and Grayling to navigating untouched rivers by float plane, this trip had it all. Plus, we get an inside look at an upcoming hosted trip that might be your next dream adventure. Strap in for big fish, wild landscapes, and some unforgettable moments on the Wet Fly Swing Podcast! Episode Chapters with Phil, Daniel, and Lance on Northern Rockies Whitefish, Grayling, and the Predator-Prey Game The lakes and rivers of the Northern Rockies are home to a mix of fish, each playing a role in the ecosystem. While whitefish and grayling might not be top targets for every angler, they tell an important story about these waters. Key Takeaways: - Whitefish = Healthy Water – Mountain whitefish are a sign of clean, untouched rivers. If they're thriving, so is the fishery. - Grayling on Dry Flies – These fish love rising to dries but don't always have the best aim. Be ready for multiple takes! - Whitefish = Food Source – Big rainbows, bull trout, and lake trout feast on whitefish. Schools of them hugging the bank means predators are nearby. Some of the best fishing moments happen when you're not just casting but observing. In these remote waters, every fish has a role, and understanding them can make you a better angler. Crystal Clear Lakes and a Short but Intense Fishing Season The lakes of the Northern Rockies aren't like most others. They are deep, clear, and packed with life. With diverse landscapes and rich water quality, these lakes create the perfect habitat for big, healthy fish. What Makes These Lakes Special? - Ultra-clear water – No murky lakes here, just pristine, see-through waters. - Rich food sources – Scuds (freshwater shrimp), snails, and chironomids fuel big trout. - Diverse habitats – From deep, rocky basins to shallow, weedy shoals, every lake is different. The fishing season here is short but intense. If you're after prime stillwater action, aim for June to September. For big pike, cooler water in June or late August is best. And if dry flies are your thing, mid-July to mid-August is peak time. Chasing Lake Trout: Timing, Depth, and Surprise Encounters Lake trout can be tricky on the fly, but with the right approach, they're not impossible. These fish love cold, oxygen-rich water, so they move deep when temperatures rise. But sometimes, they show up in the last place you'd expect. Flying into the Wild: The Ultimate Fishing Access Getting to Northern Rockies Adventures isn't just a journey—it's part of the experience. Float planes take anglers deep into untouched waters, where the only crowds are schools of hungry fish. The Bush Planes That Get You There - Caravan – A “rocket ship on floats,” built for speed and comfort. - Turbo Otter – A powerhouse that carries up to nine anglers in style. - King Air 300 – The luxury ride from Vancouver, flying right over the Rockies. Every flight brings jaw-dropping views, from rugged peaks to remote lakes. And with bubble windows, you're never missing a moment. No crowded boats, no long drives—just you, a plane, and the adventure ahead. Phil and Tim Flagler are teaming up for a special hosted trip at Northern Rockies Adventures from August 10–17, 2025. This trip offers a mix of stillwater and river fishing, with access to some of the wildest and most untouched fisheries in North America. What to Expect - Four flyouts to remote waters, targeting multiple species. - Guided and hosted fishing with Phil, Tim, and the Northern Rockies team. - Pre-trip Zoom sessions to go over logistics, gear, and flies. - Lodge accommodations with incredible food and views. If you're interested in joining the trip, email Daniel or Phil at daniel@nradventures.com or flycraft@shaw.ca or visit flycraftangling.com. Exploring the Northern Rockies by Float Plane Lance Egan spent an unforgettable week at Northern Rockies Adventures, fishing six out of seven days and staying at the lodge right off the Alaska Highway. The experience combined world-class fishing, comfortable accommodations, and breathtaking views. Lance landed rainbows, bull trout, grayling, northern pike, and lake trout while exploring the remote waters. With 132 million hectares of wilderness and 80+ fishing locations, the possibilities were endless. Even after a week, it felt like they had only scratched the surface. One of the biggest highlights? Flying in a float plane over untouched rivers and hidden lakes, picking the perfect spot to fish. With so many unexplored waters, it's an angler's paradise waiting to be discovered. A Fly Fishing Playground: Dry Flies, Streamers, and Bull Trout Lance mixed it up on this trip, fishing dry flies, streamers, and even topwater poppers. While dry fly fishing was his go-to, he also found success stripping streamers for bull trout, pike, and lake trout. Bull Trout: Targeted near drop-offs and inlets, using streamers like white sparkle minnows. - Pike: Explosive topwater eats on poppers and divers in shallow, clear lakes. - Grayling & Rainbows: Dry flies were the ticket, with spot-and-stalk fishing making for exciting takes. On this week's Talkhouse Podcast we've got two incredible singer-songwriters who sprung from the same fertile late '80s/early '90s scene, and who are still doing it right all these years later: Joe Pernice and Bill Janovitz. Joe Pernice first found notice in the country-ish pop band Scud Mountain Boys, whose home-recorded songs landed them a deal with Sub Pop in the mid-1990s. The Scuds weren't around super long, but their end was the beginning of the Pernice Brothers, Joe's long-running band that continues to put out excellent, often melancholy songs. The latest Pernice Brothers album—and by the way, he's really the only constant member at this point—is called Who Will You Believe, and it stands up there with his incredibly durable catalog. In addition to writing and playing songs, Pernice wrote a great novel a while back called It Feels So Good When I Stop, and he even had a short stint writing for TV. But for now, he's concentrating on music. Check out “December in Her Eyes” from Who Will You Believe. The other half of today's conversation, Bill Janovitz, has been the singer and guitar player for the band Buffalo Tom since their inception back in 1986, and while there have been quieter periods in there, they've consistently released records, including the new Jump Rope, which comes out on May 31. Buffalo Tom came out of the same incredible Boston/Amherst music scene that birthed Pernice Brothers, Pixies, Dinosaur Jr., Sebadoh, and many more, and these guys dive right into reminiscing about those fertile days. In addition to making music, Janovitz is also something of a rock historian, having written the comprehensive Leon Russell book in recent years, as well as a volume on The Rolling Stones. His next book is about The Cars, which these guys talk about during this chat as well. Check out “Helmet” from the upcoming album Jump Rope right here. Like I said, these guys dive back into the Boston days, talking about mutual friends and collaborators like J Mascis and David Berman of Silver Jews. They also try to remember their first encounters, one of which involves Pernice being a little ornery, and they talk about selecting songs for records—and how they never know which ones people are going to react to. Enjoy. 0:00 - Intro 2:46 - Start of the chat 7:37 - Joe's legendary cousin 12:15 - Joe walks out of college and has "a mild nervous breakdown" 18:20 - "When did you meet [David] Berman?" 23:58 - "My first album was made for $60." 31:01 - Berman wants to hear Joe say the word "cocksucker." 42:12 - Craft versus hack, and writing for TV and film Thanks for listening to the Talkhouse Podcast and thanks to Joe Pernice and Bill Janovitz for chatting.

Specific advice and Intel for the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and Mossad on: How to Prepare for War. ISRAEL: HOW TO PREPARE FOR WAR  MUSIC / INTRO EXHORTATION “In that day, it will be said to Jerusalem, 'Do not be afraid, Zion. Do not let your hands be slack.' YHWH, your God, is in the midst of you, a mighty one who will save. He will rejoice over you with joy. He will rest in his love. He will rejoice over you with singing.” (Tanakh: Zephaniah 3:16-17) “The LORD is in charge of the beginning and the end, but we are responsible for the middle.” (Shimon Peres) “Jerusalem is the undivided capital of the Jewish state, NOT the U.N. divided capital.” (Prince Handley) WARNING You do not need a missile delivered system to launch a nuclear weapon. Even though the recent launch of the Iranian Safir and Omid puts Iran a step closer, in reality nukes can be put on boxcars, commercial freighters, and trucks. Even small nukes can be transported in suitcases. An unknown quantity (probably in the thousands) of short range inexpensive ballistic missiles and SCUDS have been sold to - or stolen by - countries and groups where terrorists operate OPENLY. NBC (nuclear, biological, and chemical) warheads - and even conventional warheads – can be launched from small, confined structures such as freight ships and steamers that navigate off coastal waterways. As a realistic scenario, major Israeli, American, and European cities can be attacked without notice. According to a UPI 2005 report, some 75 percent of the total US population of 290 million people and 75 percent of military bases are within 200 miles of the coast. Interpolate this for Israel: a narrow coastal land. Plus, Israel is within close weapon proximity of terrorist neighbors. EFFECTS OF BIO-WARFARE Biological warfare is the deliberate spreading of disease among humans, animals, and plants. Primary agents of bioweapons produce many diseases that are hard to diagnose; they rarely occur naturally and often appear like other diseases. A dirty bomb uses conventional explosives to spread radioactive materials. Such a weapon is known as a radiological dispersion device. A dirty bomb may or may not kill many people, but can create fear, panic, and huge financial losses. For example, a dirty bomb in New York could result in a loss of trillions of dollars. The economic loss in Tel Aviv would be unrecoverable. MUSIC The dirty bomb threat is real. Economic fallout and panic will cause chaos. Cleanup costs will be astronomical! The radiological materials have to be removed, as they cannot be washed or blown away. Residents, fearing radiation exposure, will flee cities attacked and businesses will not want to re-open. For those local people who do not die, long term effects will be disastrous. In weeks after an attack their immune systems will decline because radiation kills bone marrow. On the long term there will be a higher risk of cancer. Plus, cases of leukemia will crop up within two years. Biological diseases resulting from biowarfare, plus natural diseases such as AIDS, STD, ebola, echoli, smallpox, and other NEW diseases can easily wipe out masses of the population. Diseases, regardless of origin, are just one of the signs of the final days. Go to the Archives and search for “disease” (on right side under list of Categories). Every day in Africa, more than 5,000 people die of AIDS. (27 million Africans are infected with HIV). By 2,010, if unchecked, more than 13,000 Africans will die each day from AIDS. Due to globalization and immigration, AIDS will soon effect every major city on Planet Earth! AIDS has killed more people than World War I, World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam, and the Gulf War combined. What's worse, new data shows it's just getting started. In many parts of Africa, up to 50% of hospital beds are occupied by HIV/AIDS patients. These diseases may be transmitted via warheads OR dispersed via nuclear dirty bombs. EMP ATTACKS An EMP nuclear detonation produces an electromagnetic field with a super fast transient pulse which couples itself to power lines, cables, antennas, and sends an electric surge (or, spike). It literally fries the electronic system in a vehicle, resulting in NO ignition. Lights and windows will work because of the battery, but the auto will NOT run. Terrorists could wipe out Ben Gurion Airport, or Kennedy Airport, plus a host of other targets. Air Traffic Control would become disabled. There would be no communications. Planes in the sky would be left flying blind and many would crash after running out of fuel. EMP DEVICES THE SIZE OF BEER CANS – NO NEED FOR AIR ATTACKS Terrorists could target financial centers. For example, the NYSE (New York Stock Exchange) could be wiped out with individuals and companies losing billions of dollars. An EMP air attack on either Israel or the US could take months …or even years … from which to recover. However, a hand EMP device (the size of a beer can) could be used at airports, financial or communications centers, hospitals, power companies, police or military bases, and urban traffic and transit control centers. MUSIC Militarily, EMP weapons can disable vehicles, even heavy armored vehicles, in a single hit. Data transfers are also jammed, resulting in NO communications: medical, military, financial, personal, power, water, lights, sanitation. Either country, Israel or the US, would be brought to, for all practical near term purposes, an irreversible standstill. HOW SHOULD ISRAEL PREPARE FOR WAR 1. Act upon confirmed Intel without reservation. Israel must be proactive, not concerned with the responses of UN, USA, or EU. 2. Attack hotbeds of terrorist activity in Israel: A) Groups such as Hizbollah, Hamas, PIJ, PFLP, and PLF. B) Non-Israeli settlement areas of Gaza, Golan Heights, and West Bank. 3. Provide populace with emergency items and Public Relations info (not ahead of time, but concurrent with IDF and IAF attacks). 4. Choose seven (7) key centers for first attack: Iran (5) cities as per Intel Tehran Bandar Abbas Ahvaz Mashdad Tabriz Syria (1) city as per Intel Lebanon (1) specific sector as per Intel 5. Mop up campaign as needed: Iran (12) cities as per Intel (including Kerman)   Syria (2) cities as per Intel   Lebanon (1) specific sector as per Intel  6. Prepare spiritually. (This really should be Number One on this list.) Passover this year 5769 (2009) starts sunset April 8th. Speaking of Passover, here’s HOW to protect your home, your family, and your business from terrorist attacks, and if you are in the IDF or IAF, especially pay attention. Apply the BLOOD of Messiah Yeshua IN FAITH over the door (the top lintel and the two side posts) of your home and businesses, or if you are in the military or Mossad, SPEAK the BLOOD over your current area of assignment. Just PRAY and SPEAK the BLOOD of Messiah (the Lamb of God without blemish Who made the one perfect final sacrifice for the sins of the world) over you.  PRAY and tell G-d that He promised that the death angel would PASS OVER when he sees the BLOOD upon your door. “Then Moshe called for all the elders of Yisra'el, and said to them, "Draw out, and take lambs according to your families, and kill the Pesach. You shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and strike the lintel and the two door posts with the blood that is in the basin; and none of you shall go out of the door of his house until the morning. For the LORD will pass through to strike the Egyptians; and when he sees the blood on the lintel, and on the two door posts, the LORD will pass over the door, and will not allow the destroyer to come in to your houses to strike you. You shall observe this thing for an ordinance to you and to your sons forever. It shall happen when you have come to the land which the LORD will give you, according as he has promised, that you shall keep this service. It will happen, when your children ask you, 'What do you mean by this service?' that you shall say, 'It is the sacrifice of the LORD's Pesach, who passed over the houses of the children of Yisra'el in Egypt, when he struck the Egyptians, and spared our houses.'" (Torah: Exodus Chapter 12, verses 21-27) MUSIC 7. Do NOT let your guard down and do NOT offer reparations or apologies for your acts of preemptive strikes for your own protection. 8. Assure yourself with these promises from the Tanakh. Speak them over yourself and your family. “No evil shall happen to you, Neither shall any plague come near your dwelling. For he will give his angels charge over you, To guard you in all your ways.” (Psalm 91:10-11) [ ] [ ] [ ] “In righteousness shall you be established: you shall be far from oppression, for you shall not be afraid; and from terror, for it shall not come near you. Behold, they may gather together, but not by me: whoever shall gather together against you shall fall because of you. Behold, I have created the smith who blows the fire of coals, and brings forth a weapon for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy. No weapon that is formed against you shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of YHWH, and their righteousness which is of me, says YHWH.” (Isaiah 54:14-17) [ ] [ ] [ ]  Swdqh  Klmh  yy  hta  Kwrb “Blessed are you, O LORD, the King, the Holy One.” Baruch haba b'Shem Adonai. RSS PODCAST DESCRIPTION: A discussion of nuclear, biological, and chemical warfare plus EMP attacks against Israel.
