Two Medals of Honor Awarded. Dem's Spanberger Response Better Than Usual. Cuban Government Shoots 4 Americans on a Speedboat. Obama Legacy's Signature a Slam Dunk. The State of the Union is over — but the real story is what Trump didn't say. In Episode 449, Paul Rieckhoff breaks down the longest SOTU in American history: two hours of pageantry, 103 standing ovations, and a president who gave 20 seconds to Ukraine on the fourth anniversary of Russia's invasion while quietly beating the war drums on Iran. Paul cuts through the noise to find the moments that actually mattered — including a 100-year-old Korean War hero finally receiving his Medal of Honor, a Coast Guard rescue swimmer honored for saving 169 lives, and Army veteran George Redis, detained by ICE and then released without a phone call or a lawyer, sitting in the chamber as a living indictment of an out-of-control federal agency. While most Americans tuned out before 11 PM, Paul stayed locked in. He breaks down the Democratic response — led by Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger, a former CIA officer who delivered arguably the strongest opposition address in recent memory — and the organized Democratic boycott that sent dozens of members to a counter-programming event on the National Mall. He also zeroes in on the Epstein files, where Representative Thomas Massie is asking the question millions of Americans want answered: why are there still no arrests in the United States while resignations pile up worldwide? Then it's below the radar: breaking news out of Cuba, where the Cuban government shot four Americans aboard a Florida-based speedboat. Paul connects the dots — Trump's pressure campaign, Rubio's long-stated goal of regime change, and how this incident could become the pretext for the next military strike. Back at home, he doesn't let up on ICE, playing the raw interview with Elia Rahmet — the woman dragged from her car in Minneapolis, both shoulders torn — and demanding accountability by name. Plus: Mayor Adams failing the NYPD in Washington Square Park, Tommy Tuberville earning his "Senator Redneck" title again, and something good: the Obama Presidential Library's basketball court and Bruce Springsteen bringing Tom Morello on every stop of his tour. Paul also shares big news — he'll be appearing on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert in the coming weeks, and Sebastian Junger is confirmed for next week's episode. If you believe America's future belongs to independent thinkers, not party loyalists — this is your show. Country over party. People over politics. Cuban authorities allege the boat’s occupants—armed Cuban nationals living in the U.S.—opened fire first and were attempting a “terrorist infiltration,” prompting an international investigation and heightened political tension. The crew then dives into the explosive report that Cardi B allegedly flipped out backstage at SNL, destroying equipment after overhearing a joke referencing Nicki Minaj’s MAGA affiliation during rehearsals for the show’s 1,000th episode. Though the joke never aired, outlets report she threw her phone, punched a screen, and threatened to walk out before performing. Reality‑TV fans get big news as Pinky Cole and K. Michelle officially join The Real Housewives of Atlanta for Season 17, with Bravo signaling a major franchise reset. Cole enters with her Slutty Vegan empire storyline, while K. Michelle brings music‑industry pressure, a bold personality, and a shift into country music—all expected to shake up the cast dynamic. The episode then turns reflective as Mo’Nique urges fans to rethink the rising trend of GLP‑1 weight‑loss drugs. In an emotional message, she questions their long‑term effects, warns that celebrity-driven hype can push people toward unhealthy choices, and encourages listeners—especially young ones—to “love yourself enough” to trust the process rather than rely on quick fixes. AP correspondent Donna Warder reports on the U.S. investigation into a deadly shooting off Cuba's coast.
United States correspondent Todd Zwillich spoke to Lisa Owen a clash between Cuba's coastguard and a US-registered speedboat that resulted in the deaths of four people, as well as reports that the Department of Justice withheld records related to accusations against Donald Trump in the Epstein files.
Today's top stories, with context, in just 15 minutes. On today's podcast:1) Cuba says a boat with 10 people near its coast early Wednesday was carrying weapons, and its occupants — Cubans living in the US — were intent on entering the country to fight against the government. Cuban forces killed four people who had opened fire from a speedboat with Florida tags, an incident with the potential to escalate an already tense standoff with the US. The vessel approached within one nautical mile off the coast of Villa Clara early Wednesday, Cuba’s Interior Ministry said in a statement. Six others on the speedboat were wounded and are being provided with medical care. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told reporters on Wednesday afternoon that the Department of Homeland Security and Coast Guard would be looking into the incident.2) The US and Iran started a third round of nuclear talks on Thursday with days to go until President Trump’s deadline for a deal. The two parties have been locked in a tense, months-long standoff over the Islamic Republic’s atomic activities and are negotiating through mediator Oman at its embassy in Geneva, the semi-official Iranian Students’ News Agency reported. Trump had given Iran a deadline of March 1-6 to strike a deal and has threatened military action if it fails to do so, sparking fears of a new Middle East war that could embroil Israel and Gulf Arab oil producers.3) The US vowed to maintain high tariffs on China hours after Beijing warned against any future hikes, as President Trump’s sweeping levies return to the spotlight before his meeting with Xi Jinping. US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said Wednesday that Trump wants to keep tariffs on China steady at a range of 35% to 50%, while repeating earlier statements that the Supreme Court’s decision to invalidate broad emergency tariffs wouldn’t affect most levies. Earlier the same day, China threatened to take “all necessary measures” if the US imposed fresh tariffs, after Washington signaled a probe into their 2020 trade deal would continue. Beijing reiterated it wants to use the existing consultation mechanism to build consensus.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Hello and welcome to another episode of Ohio Mysteries Backroads. In tonight's episode we are joined by friend of the show Wendy Koile, author of 4 fantastic books. We discuss the mysterious Toledo Speedboat disaster of 1930. On a hot Saturday morning in June, 1930, eight Toledoans set out on a speedboat to attend an Elks picnic on Pelee Island and never made it. Their boat would be found spinning in circles without a soul onboard. The well to do men would be found dead a few days later and rumors began to circulate about what happened and who was responsible. In our next story, we explore the long history of the Ghost Ship of the Ohio River, the Sachem. This luxury liner has a very long history of entertaining many well to do of the East Coast elite as well as serving the military where Thomas Edison conducted experiements to bootlegging, to fishing charters to sight seeing touring and a wild journey through the middle of the country to where it sits today, at a tributary off of the Ohio River. In this episode, I sit down with Chris Davidson, longtime publisher of Hot Boat Magazine and current publisher of Speedboat Magazine, to reflect on nearly four decades in the performance boating industry. Chris shares his unique journey—from collecting Elvis memorabilia to shaping the voice of high-performance boating media. He discusses the early days of Hot Boat, his family's deep roots in the boating world, and the magazine's pivotal 1989 sale to Larry Flynt's LFP Inc., which transformed it into a nationally recognized publication. Chris also opens up about personal challenges, including a shocking betrayal by his brother Darren in 2006 that led to a hostile takeover of the magazine—and ultimately inspired Chris to launch Speedboat Magazine, now the last remaining print publication in the performance boat world. Throughout the conversation, Chris emphasizes the importance of teamwork, loyalty, and personal connections. He talks about how building relationships in the industry with people like Bob Leach of Eliminator Boats and Ed Borges of Eddie Marine helped him to keep his magazines moving forward. Chris credits much of his success to a trusted crew of contributors, including Kevin Spaise, Jim Wilkes, Greg Shoemaker, Fernando Escovar, and Brett Bayne. It's a candid, behind-the-scenes look at a legacy shaped by passion, perseverance, and the power of relationships. Technical difficulties are a part of everyday life. As much as we try to avoid them, they always seem to happen from time to time. That's precisely what happened after a recent recording of the podcast with Speedboat photographer Tom Leigh and videographer Carter Bahde. Myrick's internet was taking longer than the others so the "Bros" had to wait until the full episode had completed its upload. Being presumably "off the podcast," the Coil household returned to regular life. Then hilarity ensued. So Ray covertly started recording the "slime" madness and this is just part of what happened... This is Fun with the Coils! Myrick Coil is the driver for the National Champion Monster Energy / M CON Class 1 team, Speedboat Magazine Test Team Driver, lead shop foreman at Performance Boat Center and a dedicated family man. I'd love to hear your thoughts about the show and this episode! Text us here...#094: Hi folks, today I'm pulling a classic episode from the archives where we focus on understanding your current rhythm. When you are working with a partner in business, a team, or multiple parties? How do you ensure everyone is on the same page? How do you get in sync if your rhythm is off? This episode shares the technique on how to identify your own rhythm and the team around you. Let's get started:Quote: “Love life, engage in it, give it all you've got. Love it with a passion, because life truly does give back, many times over, what you put into it.” – Maya AngelouFolks, do you find it hard to find your passion? Is passion and purpose the same thing? These feel like pretty big questions, I wonder if you find yourself asking these questions lately?Quote: “If you can tune into your purpose and really align with it, setting goals so that your vision is an expression of that purpose, then life flows much more easily.” ―Jack CanfieldBoy, I totally resonate with Jack's quote. When you truly align with your purpose, you start attracting your desired reality, rather than feeling like you are chasing after it. The question of the century is, HOW?! In today's episode, I'm going to share a framework I recently used in a retreat that can help you get one step closer on activating your passion! I will share:What is your rhythm?Rowboat, Yacht, or Speedboat?Pro-Tip: How to use a ''circuit breaker' if you're feeling stuckPersonal story: Honey - her wired programmingI'll share action steps how you can reveal your joy and passion!Join our Boom Vision family and hit subscribe!➡️ Follow me on Instagram @benjaminyehIf you'd like to get the links and show notes for this episode, head to:https://www.benjaminyeh.com/ep-94-rowboat-yacht-speedboat
