Technical difficulties are a part of everyday life. As much as we try to avoid them, they always seem to happen from time to time. That's precisely what happened after a recent recording of the podcast with Speedboat photographer Tom Leigh and videographer Carter Bahde. Myrick's internet was taking longer than the others so the "Bros" had to wait until the full episode had completed its upload. Being presumably "off the podcast," the Coil household returned to regular life. Then hilarity ensued. So Ray covertly started recording the "slime" madness and this is just part of what happened... This is Fun with the Coils! Myrick Coil is the driver for the National Champion Monster Energy / M CON Class 1 team, Speedboat Magazine Test Team Driver, lead shop foreman at Performance Boat Center and a dedicated family man. Ray Lee is the publisher of the national/international publication Speedboat Magazine, where nine high quality issues are printed each year with global distribution, and popular social media platforms on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok. With all of the "bros" experience, knowledge, and friends and colleagues in the industry and sport, this podcast is sure to entertain, enthuse and educate the powerboating community.

Hear their behind-the-scenes takes on what it's like working such cool jobs and how they feel about the various events throughout the year. It's a candid look at how the premier publication of boating operates, from each issue to coveted issue. This is Tom and Carter. I'd love to hear your thoughts about the show and this episode! Text us here...#094: Hi folks, today I'm pulling a classic episode from the archives where we focus on understanding your current rhythm. When you are working with a partner in business, a team, or multiple parties? How do you ensure everyone is on the same page? How do you get in sync if your rhythm is off? This episode shares the technique on how to identify your own rhythm and the team around you. Let's get started:Quote: “Love life, engage in it, give it all you've got. Love it with a passion, because life truly does give back, many times over, what you put into it.” – Maya AngelouFolks, do you find it hard to find your passion? Is passion and purpose the same thing? These feel like pretty big questions, I wonder if you find yourself asking these questions lately?Quote: “If you can tune into your purpose and really align with it, setting goals so that your vision is an expression of that purpose, then life flows much more easily.” ―Jack CanfieldBoy, I totally resonate with Jack's quote. When you truly align with your purpose, you start attracting your desired reality, rather than feeling like you are chasing after it. The question of the century is, HOW?! In today's episode, I'm going to share a framework I recently used in a retreat that can help you get one step closer on activating your passion! I will share:What is your rhythm?Rowboat, Yacht, or Speedboat?Pro-Tip: How to use a ''circuit breaker' if you're feeling stuckPersonal story: Honey - her wired programmingI'll share action steps how you can reveal your joy and passion!Join our Boom Vision family and hit subscribe!➡️ Follow me on Instagram @benjaminyehIf you'd like to get the links and show notes for this episode, head to:https://www.benjaminyeh.com/ep-94-rowboat-yacht-speedboat

Today's guest is a master of the aviation class of business, but is also a well-known and respected market figure across classes, holding key positions in market committees and international insurance trade bodies and non-insurance organisations alike. Bruce Carman has been a leading aviation and war underwriter since the late 1980s and after over 30 years at the heart of the Lloyd's market, started his own specialist MGA, Hive Underwriters in 2017. That business has grown rapidly and has begun to mature and scale and so now seems an excellent time to get Bruce on the show. The aviation market is in a fascinating position post the Russian invasion of Ukraine and part of our talk will be an incredibly useful listen for any generalist who might feel that aviation is sometimes a specialism too far for them. But that wouldn't be doing justice to Bruce and this discussion. Listening back, what this podcast is really about is examining the art of becoming a good and highly focused underwriter and insurance entrepreneur. Bruce is incredibly good company and is very generous with his time and insights. My overriding impression is of someone having the time of their life. Bruce is someone who has been given the opportunity to start from scratch and be fast-paced and nimble in applying the best practices and technology available today to a lifetime of frontline high-performing underwriting experience. NOTES Abbreviations: EASA = the European Union Aviation Safety Agency WAIG and BAIG = Respectively the Westminster and British Aviation Insurance Groups – early UK aviation pools. BAIG is a forerunner of today's Global Aerospace. Appointed Rep = Appointed Representative. A UK term where a younger firm gains regulatory (usually FCA) authorisation via an arrangement with a fully-regulated firm. Bob Brown is widely regarded as one of the leading authorities on performance boating, having reported on and participated in every facet of the industry over the last 50 years. Growing up as an avid boat racer, Brown became the editor of Powerboat Magazine in 1973 through his affiliation with fellow racer Bob Nordskog. After leaving Powerboat in 1979 to start his own public relations agency, Media Direction, Brown continued to write for the magazine as well as for every major performance boat publication, including Hot Boat, Performance Boats, Sportboat, Boating, Speedboat, and Speed on the Water. Brown has raced endurance inboards in the Salton Sea 500 and Parker Enduro. Sometimes, being in the wrong place at the wrong time can have deadly consequences. Sometimes, it's not just the place that's the problem; it's the who that you're with. In the two cases we discuss in this episode, neither of these men intended to kill their victims. They did not set out that morning to take the life of another human being. Nor did they gain anything from the demise of their victims. But they were responsible for their deaths all the same. The first case is in London, England, where twenty-four-year-old Charlotte "Charli" Brown from Essex had been looking for love on Tinder for some time but had had no luck. She wasn't interested in having a good time; she was looking for a long-term relationship. Before long, she began talking to a thirty-year-old web designer named Jack Shepherd. On December 8th, 2015, a Tuesday night, Jack took Charlotte to a restaurant on the 32nd floor and wined and dined her. Everything was going well until Charlotte was killed in an accident involving Jack Shepherd's speedboat. The second case is a request from Jenn K on behalf of her mother. Thirty-one years ago, on August 30th, 1993, the body of a 33-year-old Nancy Lynn Manni was found floating in the Chesapeake Bay just 250 yards from the Cove Point Lighthouse in Cove Point, Maryland. Nancy had lacerations on the back of her legs and buttocks, which were most likely made from a propeller. The coroner felt that Nancy had been alive and trying to swim away when she was run over by a boat. It would take years and being featured on Unsolved Mysteries to discover who was responsible for Nancy's death.Join Cam and Jen as we discuss 'The Speedboat Killers: The Deaths of Charlotte Brown & Nancy Manni.'Seeker's Notes sponsored this week's episode.Whenever you need a break from your day, you need to try Seeker's notes. In today's episode of Powerboat Talk, we welcome back Jet Pump and Drag Boat Racing expert Greg Shoemaker, owner of G.S. Marine. Shoemaker spent his most formidable years in the performance boating industry working for Eliminator Boats where he helped develop and popularize their 19 ft, Daytona through his very successful drag racing exploits. In the episode, Shoemaker answers some questions about basic jet pump operation and provides input on some simple “do's and don'ts” that are often misunderstood by today's jet boaters. Shoemaker shares the story behind the 130 mph flip of his and partner Norm Grimes's “Dash for Cash” Daytona as well as the first time he “got wet” driving “Underdog,” his original record setting Daytona. Shoemaker also shared some stories about his many years of writing Jet Tech columns and testing boats for Hot Boat, Performance Boats, and Speedboat magazines. Chris Garvey: Crafting a Culture of Love for Work, The Real Challenge for Real Agile Leaders Chris delves into his perspective on success for Scrum Masters, drawing inspiration from a Simon Sinek story about hotel experiences. He aspires to help team members genuinely love their jobs. Success, for Chris, hinges on trust among team members and leaders, enabling them to excel and voice concerns. He emphasizes the transition from stressing about delivery to focusing on high performance. Ownership of work methods and problem-solving is key, as is the ability to step back under pressure. Chris also advocates for creating a safe space to foster open communication within the team. Featured Retrospective Format for the Week: Visualizing Progress with the Speedboat Retrospective Chris discusses his favored retrospective format, the "Speedboat." He appreciates its visual nature and the ease with which participants grasp it. Using a standard laminated print, he guides teams to imagine their ideal day together. This imaginative exercise helps unlock insights for improvement and encourages team cohesion through the use of metaphor. Love it with a passion, because life truly does give back, many times over, what you put into it.” – Maya AngelouFolks, do you find it hard to find your passion? Is passion and purpose the same thing? These feel like pretty big questions, I wonder if you find yourself asking these questions lately? Quote: “If you can tune into your purpose and really align with it, setting goals so that your vision is an expression of that purpose, then life flows much more easily.” ―Jack CanfieldBoy, I totally resonate with Jack's quote. The Devil is very good at what he does. He is amazing at the art of compromising the Christian. And yet, as good as our enemy is at seducing and sabotaging us, God is even more skilled at making Christians overcomes. If we allow our God's Truth to be our guide, victory is assured over the snazzy speedboats of the Devil.
The speedboat engine is steady and strong, powering you across the surface. Waves form in the boat's wake, slapping the hull as it carves cleanly through the water. Every now and then – a tiny moment of silence when the boat catches air. The wind rushing past your ears creates a dull roar that is somehow insulating and comforting. It's a good day to be out on the water. ---
Shahidul Haq Khan, a Bangladeshi health worker, and Tim Miner, an American with the World Health Organization, worked together on a smallpox eradication team in Bangladesh in the early 1970s. The team was based on a hospital ship and traveled by speedboat to track down cases of smallpox from Barishal to Faridpur to Patuakhali. Every person who agreed to get the smallpox vaccination was a potential outbreak averted, so the team was determined to vaccinate as many people as possible. The duo leaned on each other, sometimes literally, as they traversed the country's rugged and watery geography. Khan, whom Miner sometimes referred to as “little brother,” used his local knowledge to help the team navigate both the cultural and physical landscape. When crossing rickety bamboo bridges, he would hold Miner's hand and help him across. “We didn't let him fall,” chuckled Khan.Episode 4 of “Eradicating Smallpox” explores what it took to bring care directly to people where they were.To conclude the episode, host Céline Gounder speaks with public health advocate Joe Osmundson about his work to help coordinate a culturally appropriate response to mpox in New York City during the summer of 2022. “The model that we're trying to build is a mobile unit that delivers all sorts of sexual and primary healthcare opportunities.
