Sowell founded the non-profit organization Current Initiatives, which operates the "Laundry Project." The organization is one of four groups that received a Community Investment Grant from the Tampa Police Department in 2018. The Laundry Project assists low-income families with meeting a basic need – washing clothes and linens, by turning laundromats into community centers of hope.
