Sarah Mason Walden embarked on a deeply personal journey as she began to craft her inaugural studio album. Collaborating with Josh Kaler at Pentavarit Studios in Nashville, she poured her heart and soul into every note, infusing her music with her distinctive authenticity.During the process. Sarah found herself recalling the challenges she faced during her early twenties, navigating the Nashville music industry where producers and executives often sought more than her musical talent alone. She was determined not to compromise her vision, so the songs lay dormant for many years as she moved on to a successful career in art and design. She revisited these songs born from her own experiences, reclaiming them from the shadows of her past. The many months spent in the studio became a poignant act of self-discovery and empowerment, granting her younger self a voice while offering her present self the invaluable opportunity to hone her new role as producer under the mentorship of the remarkable Josh Kaler.Joined by a host of talented musicians, including Jump, Little Children's Matt Bivins on accordion, Ward Williams on cello, and Jonathan Gray on upright bass, as well as Slow Runner's Michael Flynn on piano, the album resonates with a rich tapestry of sound. Special guest Nenad Leonart contributes his talent with historical harpsichords and organs from Switzerland. Kevin Max of dc Talk and Sad Astronauts, accompanied by friends Jessica Bleu and Rebecca Seaver, lends his voice to a stirring rendition of the traditional song "In the Pines." Mark Robertson, of bands such as The Ragamuffin Band and Th'Legendary Shack Shakers, adds his expertise on the upright bass.Sarah also crafted the packaging for the limited edition vinyl and CDs with the same love and attention, with hidden messages and symbolism that tie into her other endeavors. An art book of the lyrics is on the way, which connects to the immersive world of her Ramshackle book trilogy. A collection of textiles, murals, wallpapers, and homewares will be released themed to the album's tracks. With meticulous care, the album was mastered by Parachute Mastering and will be released on July 26th.  The Reclamation promises a warm and immersive listening experience for audiences. Sarah's debut offering stands as a testament to her unwavering dedication to her craft and her steadfast commitment to artistic integrity.https://www.sarahmasonwalden.com/https://www.peacoquette.com/https://www.instagram.com/the_psarah/?hl=enhttps://www.threads.net/@the_psarahHost - Trey MitchellIG - treymitchellphotographyIG - feeding_the_senses_unsensoredFB - facebook.com/profile.php?id=100074368084848Sponsorship Information  -  ftsunashville@gmail.comTheme Song - The Wanshttps://www.thewansmusic.com/

Dr. Veronica Anderson is a multifaceted entrepreneur, healthcare expert, and Kolbe-Certified Human Design Coach who has authored 4 books on holistic medicine and personal growth.Have you ever felt like a victim, and if so … what did you do about it?Dr. Veronica first appeared on the GFR Show in September 2021 - Episode 83: From Depressed Eye Surgeon to Clairvoyant Psychic. Now she is back to talk about how working in a predominately white organization made her feel victimized AND eventually empowered her to birth a business that fully represents her ethnic identity and personal ideals.Tune in to hear Dr. V's new story detailing her experience as a Black woman in the white-dominated wellness industry during the aftermath of George Floyd's 2021 murder. She gets into the ways her well-intentioned colleagues missed the mark with their attempts at allyship, and we find out what (glaringly, in retrospect) simple change in communication could have made a big difference for everyone involved. We talk about how being tokenized by some, while also being excluded and canceled by others for speaking her truth, made Dr. Veronica feel like a victim. And she confesses how she initially leaned into that role and allowed her external world to impact her vision of herself … and kept her trapped in the victim role rather than pushing against it and transforming itLearn what spiritual lessons helped Dr. Veronica shift from victimhood to empowerment, and discover how her struggles served as a path to a new, more aligned business. Plus, she tells us exactly what type of support she'd love to get from Lisa, and other white colleagues, that would help her out most as she embarks on her next evolution. You can listen in wherever you get podcasts, or watch on our YouTube channel to see some of the gorgeous textile designs Dr. Veronica has commissioned for her yoga and meditation product line.RESOURCES:Get Dr. Veronica's gift here: QUIZ: What is your #1 relationship mistake? Peter Ciesla is a self-taught textile artist born in Wroclaw, Poland in 1961. Growing up surrounded by theater, visual art and music, he developed a love for textiles and fashion. Peter started experimenting with textiles at age 11 designing and creating street fashion, as well as costume for theatre and dance performances. He emigrated to the United States in 1991 and immediately focused on developing a career as an artist/designer opening “Creative Apparel Design” in Chicago, Illinois. He spent the 1990's focusing on custom couture work, learning the painstaking attention to detail that this work requires. In addition he developed an art-to-wear clothing and jewelry line during this time, as the Millennium approached. The present incarnation of his business, Bazyli Studio, was launched in 2002. Peter based it in Baileys Harbor, Wisconsin together with his life partner and artist, Skye. They combined their talents and efforts to create their unique, one-of-a-kind, sculptural beaded jewelry line. Their work has national recognition and has won numerous awards. Although Peter continued to design art-to-wear in the 2000's, most of his energy went into hand crafting Bazyli jewelry. In 2012, he went back to his first passion and began designing and creating art clothing on a full time basis. In 2015, Peter and Skye opened Bazyli Studio Wearable Art Gallery in a building adjacent to their home and studios. Peter's work has always been inspired by the natural world. He has most recently developed an art clothing line integrating his own toxin free, one-of-a-kind, plant-dyed organic textiles. He works with the natural fibers of linen, cotton, silk, hemp, wool, organic when possible. He experiments with local Door County plants, nuts, berries and flowers in his natural dyeing processes. He does botanical printing along with Shibori techniques. He uses his masterful skills to manipulate textiles in a variety of ways, including surface design, texturing, application, quilting and felting techniques. He also creates his own patterns for his signature coats, jackets and vests. In developing his own plant-dyed textiles he has realized his long time dream of creating clothing with a softer ecological footprint. His deep love, appreciation and respect for the breathtaking beauty of the Door County Peninsula is reflected in his work. He looks forward to many more years of discovery and experimentation in the field of natural dyeing and in creating objects of beauty. https://www.bazylistudio.comSupport the show

How does craft deepen your understanding of your history, your community, or yourself? And how can predominantly-white craft spaces better welcome diverse experiences?Textile artist and printmaker Jen Hewett threads the needle on these questions in her latest book, This Long Thread: Women of Color on Craft, Community and Connection. The book includes interviews with 19 fiber artists, and surveys hundreds of creators of color, all of whom draw on their relationship with making. This hour, we hear from Hewett – and briefly, from writer Mia Nakaji Monnier. Plus, Susi Ryan is an author and social justice activist from Connecticut who co-founded the quilt guild, Sisters In Stitches Joined By The Cloth. Ryan recently wrote a piece about how craft connects her to her ancestors, titled "Cloth Has Given Me A Voice," for Mass Humanities' We, Too, Are America series. She says, "Cloth has given me a voice to recall the memory of my enslaved ancestors. The quilts that I create visually depict and document in cloth the life journeys of my family, my ancestors, and the many others who lived through the African diaspora," Ryan writes. "The stories my quilts tell allow me to ease into uncomfortable conversations about such critical issues as racism, social and medical justice, prison reform, African American history and literature, farm, food and housing sustainability, climate change, women's rights, religion, politics, and human trafficking, that sadly still exists today." Today on the podcast I speak with the lovely Jane Denton.  As a textile artist, Jane's artworks are all about all about texture, colour and design. Using cotton or wool carefully handstitched onto canvas, Jane creates delicate, precise pieces that are clean, fresh, and contemporary. Colour plays an important role, and her compositions range from bright and bold to soft and muted. All pieces are hand stitched, and each one is unique. Jane's work is not only much loved by New Zealanders but has struck a chord with art lovers across the USA and beyond. Over the years she has featured on many leading design website and blogs around the world and her work is regularly enjoyed by the interior design community.I connected with Jane through this podcast, I was a fan of her work already however when we shared a few messages one day about this podcast, I quickly suggested that I interview Jane about her incredible work. As you will hear in this episode, at first glance you could almost look at Jane's beautiful geometric artworks as being simple, however it's not until you really look closely   that you see how complex, intricate, and clever Jane's work is. I really loved chatting with Jane. I feel like she is a quiet achiever – creating this beautiful, globally recognized artwork all from her sunny studio on the Kapiti Coast of New Zealand.
