Val Jones joined Storyfile as CTO in January 2021 after a leadership role at Raxium and 16 years at the USC Institute for Creative Technologies. The institute has been at the forefront of synthetic media research and innovation for more than a decade.  Storyfile has products that might be thought of by some as virtual humans or digital twins, but the company characterizes its solution as conversational video. After capturing robust video recordings of people discussing a particular set of topics, Storyfile creates an interactive lifelike avatar that you can talk to through a website, app, or kiosk. The most famous Storyfile user is the actor William Shatner though the project first gained widespread attention by capturing the experiences of holocaust survivors.  Today, the technology is used for everything from entertainment, training, and answering product questions to preserving the memories of loved ones before they pass away. Jones discusses the use cases, technology evolution, and trade-offs in this rapidly growing market segment.  Jones earned PhD, master's, and undergraduate degrees in computer science from USC.

In this episode with Val Jones, we discuss the role that central sensitisation plays with a large majority of elbow pain patients. She then walks us through differential diagnosis and treatment of elbow pain with and without central sensitisation, and finally we discuss how treatment of elbow pain is much more global and complex than simply giving a patient wrist extension exercises. Val has over 20 years experience. She is the lead physiotherapist for shoulder and elbow conditions in Sheffield and works closely with the nationally recognised upper limb surgeons.Want to learn more about pain around the elbow? Billy and Brian talk to Val Jones, a master coach for purpose driven women who are ready to uplevel their life, relationships, and income. She is also a corporate coach in the United States for Chanel, the Air Force, Chevron, Warner Brothers, CNN and many more. Val is also the host of The Selfish Woman Podcast where she's on a mission to prove that ‘selfish' is not a dirty word, and when we make ourselves a priority, it transforms our relationship with ourselves and with others, which is exactly what she's here to talk about today. We ask Val: --So selfishness, self-centeredness, and self-absorption all come with negative connotations.  I am of the opinion that there is nuance in being self-centered and there is the potential for developing awareness when it comes to self-absorption, but I am not sold on any positives that come from selfishness…what am I missing, or is this more about semantics?--When you're coaching, how do you balance the fine line between helping your clients recognize self-limiting beliefs and behaviors that empower them while at the same time not letting that empowerment drift into becoming an egotistical asshole? --How do  you see selfishness working FOR someone when it comes to relationships?  --One thing I whole-heartedly agree with you on is how labeling someone a narcissist is all the rage these days when in reality, they're more likely just an immature asshole.  In your opinion, what's the difference?--Tell us more about what subconscious programming is and how that can limit our beliefs if we're not careful.--How do we identify those limiting beliefs and what does “saturating in your truth” look like? How do we do that?--How does recognizing that difference between an asshole and a narcissist apply to your Boundaries Bootcamp? --Tell us about your upcoming group program Women Rising.--Our show seems to be very popular with the ladies, particularly midlife female coaches who will reach out to us to be guests on the show.  Now we reached out to you because we wanted to address this idea that “selfish is not a dirty word”, but why do you think there are so many life coaches out there who work specifically with women and so few life coaches out there who work specifically for men?Like what you heard from Val Jones?  Contact her at:Instagram: @msvaljonesTwitter: @valjonescoach Thank you for listening to the Mindful Midlife Crisis!Questions? Sometimes Plan A isn't the plan at all. We may want it to be, we may yearn for it to be, but things we plan for and desire don't always happen for us, even if we prepare for them for years. Sometimes the Universe just has another idea. What then? Great question. What do we do when our plans completely fall apart? How do we handle our world's being rocked to the core? My guest on this episode, Val Jones, knows the answers to these questions. Val is a former elite figure skater who shared the medal podium with Olympians Kristi Yamaguchi, Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan. Her own Olympic dream was crushed when she sustained a career-ending knee injury. Val was 18 when the injury took place, and she lost her identity. Just a teenager who had spent the majority of her life as a competitive figure skater, she had no Plan B for life. As you might imagine, she struggled. In addition to the emotional devastation, she endured 8 major surgeries in 9 years and after the fifth surgery, contracted a potentially deadly complication.  Now, however, she is thriving, and she shares her experience here on the show, as well as some of the techniques and practices that have helped her to persist through problems and overcome the many obstacles that present themselves when Plan A isn't ultimately in the cards. Val is living proof that we can not only get through a devastating situation but also come out the other side even stronger.  --- For more information about Val, please visit valjonesspeaks.com . The My Future Business™ Show

My Future Business Interview with VAL JONES #valjonespeaks #valjones Hi, and welcome to the show! On today's My Future Business Show I have the pleasure of spending time with professional figure skater, author, keynote speaker and peak performance coach, VAL JONES. Val has an incredible life story which will not only open your eyes and touch your heart, but hopefully it will inspire you to push through any challenges that you face in your personal and professional lives.   To give some context, Val's experience as a professional skater has seen her share the podium with the likes of Kristi Yamaguchi, Tonya Harding, and Nancy Kerrigan. As household names in the skating world, you don't get to rub shoulders with this caliber of individual accidently. In fact, it took Val years of hard work and tenacity to achieve top tier success. During the call, not only does Val share her experience as a professional skater, and how that part of her life helped shape who she is today, she also talks about her struggle with multiple injuries resulting from countless double and triple jumps, and how she was hit with two forms of the debilitating condition known as MRSA. Normally, MRSA has potentially dire consequences for those suffering with this condition, think cardiac arrest and kidney failure. Fortunately, due to her competitive upbringing at home, her Dad's love and encouragement, and her own strength and pure determination, Val was able to turn this challenge into positive thoughts and actions that helped her get through it. One of the key points of the call, was when Val talked about leadership, and how her experience with a dog-sled team, led her to redefine what leadership meant. This idea, which is counterintuitive, is based on the structure of a team of dogs, which is not led by those at the front of the sled, nor in the middle, but actually by those at the rear. This concept of leading from the back really stood out for me, and makes a great deal of sense. Further to that, Val also talks about how leadership is not always going to come from the same person, and to use the analogy of the dog-sled team, by rotating the team around, every person on the team gets the opportunity to lead. I enjoyed hearing about Val's childhood stories of how it used to always be competitive amongst her siblings. Everything from who could get to the car first, to who could pull the funniest face, which as Val mentioned, was often won by her Dad who had a knack for regularly winning this family competition. In closing, to perform at the pinnacle of performance, think Olympic level performance, Val had to spend countless hours preparing, training and shaping her mind to achieve her goals. This tenacity, consistency and passion, has not only helped Val's clients recognize that there's always a higher level of performance, but that Val is the right person to help you take your leadership skills to the next level. This idea where titles don't matter, only a connection, but this also leaves a lot of room for "error" and/or miscommunication. With her sights set on earning a spot on the Olympic ice skating team, Val Jones was devastated when at 18, she was told she could never skate again following one severe knee injury. Just one triple lutz gone wrong and everything she had worked for her entire life was stripped away. Without any support resources or someone to help her talk through her loss, Val found herself processing that deep grief on her own and struggled for years to come to a place of personal acceptance and hopefulness for the future. Now an inspirational speaker, CrossFit instructor and CrossFit gym owner, Val shares insights she has learned over the past three decades about utilizing what she learned in sports to retain the competitive spirit for life. In this candid interview, Val speaks about the significance of sidelined athletes allowing themselves the grace to grieve the loss and encourages them to harness social support, gratitude, and the competitive drive in order to come to terms with their new reality and find a meaningful way forward. An inspiring interview for all competitive athletes, encouraging us to reflect on the power of sports in shaping the inner person and preparing us for a lifetime of overcoming mental and physical obstacles of all kinds.
