When Gentry and Ron King returned to their Fort Worth home, almost everything was gone. Lost in a fire that gutted their house. But out of those ashes an answered prayer. After a nine-hour search through the debris, a neighbor found their 5-year old dog Ruby, without a scratch. That miracle, combined with the crosses that survived when almost nothing else did, strengthened the Kings' faith. They hope their story might strengthen someone else's too.

Hi Folks! Have you ever wondered where Contemporary Christian Music came from or how it got started? Recently a great new movie was released called the "Jesus Revolution" which gave me the idea to produce a show about the "Jesus Music" that was an integral part of that great spiritual revolution that started in the 1970's. Arguably, the story of Jesus Music begins when a young west coast pastor named Chuck Smith from Calvary Chapel Church was asked by a hippie band called "Love Song" if they could play in his church. As chuck tells it in his autobiography, "I was a bit apprehensive about what the band would play and what they would sound like". So, Pastor Chuck asked the band if he could hear a sample of their music. The band eagerly agreed and started lugging their guitars into the church. They set up their gear and eventually started playing a song they had written called "Welcome Back." As Pastor Chuck tells it, "as soon as the band started playing, the power of the Holy Spirit fell upon our little church and I was awe-struck; the band was really good! Pastor Chuck asked the band if they could play for a youth service that very evening and they did. And so began "Jesus Music," which would eventually be called Contemporary Christian Music and, indeed, the beginnings of the "Jesus Revolution" itself. I hope you enjoy our podcast and find it entertaining and informative. Ron King .

Today, Associate pastor Ron King continues a series called, “What is Going On,” where we read the entire bible in a year. 1st and 2nd Kings covers the history of Israel over roughly 400 years. During this time span, a nation is split and many kings rise and fall out of power, due to continued idolatry and disobedience to God. Ultimately, these books point to one constant theme; that there is no God like the Lord. After the message, read the books of 1st and 2nd Kings. Also, check out nwhills.com/hub for additional resources like book overviews, reading plans, and application questions.
El estreno de esta edición es 'Right Now', segundo trabajo discográfico de la teclista, compositora y cantante Claudia Campagnol. Hi Folks, for those of you who are familiar with the Ron King Show audio podcast, you know that most of the time we feature Christian bands, singers or gospel groups from the areas of western Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio and northern West Virginia. Well, instead of that, on this episode of the Ron King Show we have the pleasure of having as our guest, from the "big" city of Lone Pine, PA the excellent Christian comedian Mr. Randy Riggle. You may be wondering what's the difference between a Christian comedian and a regular secular comedian is and Randy gives us the answer to that question. Randy also talks about whats it's like to be on the road as a comedian for over forty years and some of the difficulties encountered in making a full time living at it. Randy loves to travel and has had the pleasure of meeting , and working with, some of the top comedians in the business over the years and we get to hear Randy tell us all about that also. During the interview, Randy does a great impression of singer Johnny Mathis which is quite funny; you won't want to miss that. I loved interviewing Randy; he's a lot of fun and I'm sure you'll enjoy listening to his interview as much as I did producing it. Thanks for listening! Ron King

Hi Folks: Well, we have a great interview and some excellent original country music on this edition of the RON KING SHOW. Our three studio guests include Tammy Jo & Iron Horse; all from the upper Ohio Valley (Moundsville, WV and St. Clairsville, Ohio) and are comprised of Larry Truex on electric bass guitar, John (Buster) Gatten on electric lead guitar and Tammy Jo Whitlatch on acoustic guitar and vocals. Tammy Jo & Iron Horse have only been together a little over a year but the individual members of the band all have years of experience playing with other bands before getting together to play in Iron Horse. The group has just released their first CD together called "MY CADILLAC" and boy is it a good one! Their title tune written by Tammy, called "My CADILLAC, is quite reminiscent of the vibe on the Grammy winning CD "RAISING SAND," produced by T Bone Burnett and starring Allison Krause and Robert Palmer. Another great original tune on the new CD, also written by Tammy, is a song called "WEST VIRGINIA." (No. not the one by John Denver; that song is called "Country Roads.) And to let you hear just how unbelievably good the band is we'll let you hear "WEST VIRGINIA" on the podcast. We think that TAMMY JO & IRON HORSE is one of the very best country bands to come out of west Virginia in a long time and, after listening to their music, we think you'll agree. Happy listening! Ron King
Do you ever wonder why kids can see a playground full of shiny equipment, yet they are drawn to the sticks, rocks, branches, trees, logs, fallen leaves, and the list goes on, instead? Ron King wondered this too, but it didn't take long before he saw all the benefits of natural play and started a family business called Natural Playgrounds, who are the leading experts in building natural playgrounds for kids!! For 26 years, the King family has owned Natural Playgrounds, and they have been the leading experts in designing beautiful, intriguing, cost-effective, safe, and philosophically appropriate Natural Playgrounds for K-12 schools, Montessori schools, Head Start programs, childcare centers, and communities. Benefits of Natural Play: Contributes to overall physical, cognitive, and emotional development of children Helps kids score higher on tests for concentration and self-discipline Helps kids experience more diverse play Kids exhibit less aggressive behaviour Advances motor fitness Promotes health Develops creativity It “invites children in” Reduces injuries Is more inclusive Allows for free play 14 billion dollars in the United States alone are spent on accidents from traditional playgrounds. Some reasons being that kids go beyond their skill level, or they get bored, so they try perform activities that are “too risky.” The age suggestion for equipment is very arbitrary. Natural playgrounds are good for all ages, because you can play to your own skill level and everything is built into the ground. Enjoy a deep dive into the documentary filmmaking process with Darroch Greer and Ron King as they discuss their film The Millionaires' Unit. The Film tells the unsung story of a group of Yale college students who took the initiative to learn to fly in preparation for America's entry into World War I and became the founding squadron of the U.S. Naval Air Reserve. The award winning film's VOD release date of February 15, 2018 was chosen to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the death of First Yale Unit member Albert D. Sturtevant, the first U.S. Naval Aviator killed in combat, when his plane went down in the North Sea on February 15, 1918. Narrated by Academy Award® nominated actor Bruce Dern, grandnephew of one of the aviators, the feature length documentary charts the romantic, little known story of the origins of American airpower and features very rare archival footage and thrilling dogfighting sequences filmed air to air with replica WW1 planes, some with original engines. December 27, 2021 — Oscar's Place, a donkey sanctuary in Hopland named for a cat, is populated by guinea hens, medieval artillery, and dozens of soon-to-be reality TV stars. Ron King is a former New York fashion and media executive who lost his job in the pandemic and decided to devote himself to rescuing donkeys. The 75-acre ranch is named for the memory of a much-beloved pet. Donkeys are charismatic, with their quizzical expressions, big hairy ears, and dainty hooves. They are equines, but their brains, their guts, and their hooves are entirely different from those of a horse, which means they require a different kind of care. They are also profoundly emotional. “They form very strong bonds with each other, and with their human caretakers,” King said during a tour of the premises on Friday morning. Oscar's Place has had just over eighty donkeys come through. Twenty-nine have been adopted, and six are permanent residents. Not many are available for adoption at the moment, since King wants to make sure they are successfully rehabilitated, both physically and emotionally; that potential adopters have the resources and the fencing to take care of them properly; and that they will be treated as pets, rather than beasts of burden. He also won't adopt out pregnant females. Most importantly, he will only home them in pairs, even if they are destined to be companions for other animals. “I have promised these donkeys a safe, happy, and healthy life, and I believe that retirement is probably part of that,” he said. “I think donkeys probably do enjoy having a job, but it has to be pretty light. The primary reason people adopt donkeys is to be a pet, and secondarily, they're great guardians.” While the donkeys he introduced to a visitor were affectionate and docile, nuzzling for treats and leaning into shoulder rubs, King says “donkeys are fierce.” Their bonding tendency means they will protect their friends and family, starting with a unique bray that is often enough to send coyotes in search of a meal somewhere else. Next, they charge. “Usually, a thousand-pound animal charging will deter it,” King explained. “If the coyote still continues, donkeys' back hips are double jointed. They can kick sideways and backwards. And so if you ever google Donkey vs. Coyote, which I do not recommend, the donkey always wins.” For all that is endearing, unique, and fierce about them, the species is a bit of a modern-day castoff. “Most ancient cities around the globe were built on the backs of donkeys,” King reasoned. “And then we got tractors. Now, in this century, horses win races. Cattle feed a food system. Goats produce milk and meat. So they all serve a monetary value to humans. Donkeys have no monetary value. They've just been used, and then discarded. So the donkey has very few advocates.” Viejo, King's personal pet donkey, is one of the permanent residents. He and his friend Sandy got a vigorous rub as King talked about what he knows and doesn't know about the animals who show up on the ranch with a variety of conditions. Donkeys end up at auction houses, where their buyers almost inevitably slaughter them, for a variety of reasons. Either their owners or the owners' heirs surrender them, or people illegally round up wild donkeys and sell them for quick cash. King suspects Viejo was surrendered, because “he came off the truck friendly. I think he is just about perfect.” Sandy, who is heavily pregnant, is food-motivated, so, according to King, “she acts like she's being sweet. She's just trying to manipulate you into giving her some food. If you don't, she will leave you.” King hasn't entirely lost his fashion sense. He is fully aware that he and Viejo, both silver-haired partial brunettes, go well together. “Photographers seem to like us because we have the same color hair,” he divulged, planting a kiss on Viejo's forehead. His media senses are still keen, too. Starting in 2022, he promised, “the donkeys are going to be reality TV stars. Several different production companies approached us, and it was very important to me that we understood what our northern star was and what kind of story we're going to tell. It's really going to be stories of compassion and joy and some of the heartache that comes from running a donkey sanctuary.” He already knows who the biggest stars are going to be. They're just outside a high-ceilinged barn, echoing with the cries of guinea fowl. The guineas are supposed to protect everyone from rattlesnakes, and sure enough, at 10:00 in the morning on Christmas Eve, there wasn't a rattlesnake in sight. They're not the stars, though. “Donkeys are pregnant for 14 months, so we already know how many babies we're going to have next year, and that number is 23,” he announced, leading the way into the maternity pasture. “Donkey babies are adorable, and make for really good TV.” They also come in a variety of sizes. Hershey, who is the size of a really big dog, is probably half mini. Which brings us to the medieval artillery. Sonsa is a baby, too, at two years old. But she is a Percheron, a giant horse that was bred for doing battle with soldiers wearing chainmail and wielding lances. “A pushy Percheron is quite a different thing from a pushy donkey,” King observed, trying to dissuade her from running down a visitor out of sheer curiosity and exuberant friendliness. Her journey from the auction house to Oscar's Place should resonate with anyone who ever went to the pound to pick up a lapdog and came home with a pitbull. “I went to the auction in November to rescue donkeys,” King recalled. “And this one chose me. I just fell madly in love and decided I needed to follow my heart, even though it wasn't really our mission, so here she is.” King is planning to bring in a trainer, and eventually put Sonsa to work, giving donors cart rides and helping round up donkeys on vaccination day. In the meantime, he's focused on the mission, which is kind of a long, elaborate way of saying thank you to a species that's been carrying our burdens for a very long time.
If you enjoy oldies music from the 50's and the 60's, then you are really going to enjoy this episode of the Ron King Show. Ron visits WJPA Radio in Washington, PA and is the guest of DJ (Gee Whiz) George Lasko who has been hosting the CRUSIN' SUNDAY NIGHT radio show for many years and has built up a huge following. George and Ron discuss the early days of Doo-Wop music and play one of Ron's records that was recorded at Regent Sound Studios in New York City just off Broadway in about 1958. From there George and Ron play records from Ron's recording career throughout the years up until the present. The show comes to a nifty end as DJ George plays one of Ron's brand new songs from Ron's latest album "TWO ANGELS MOVED IN FROM MEMPHIS;" the new song is a hilarious tune called, "BLACK SOCKS AND BERKINSTOCKS." So sit back, take a trip back in time and enjoy some of the nicest memories from the best days of your life! Love! Ron King

Our guest for this edition of the Ron King Show is Sandy Lusco Huffman, a seasoned Christian/Country singer-songwriter now living in rural New Freeport, PA, just over the state line from West Virginia. Sandy started out singing and performing in school when she was very young in Pittsburgh and by the time she was a teenager she was opening up for top country artists, such as Ronnie Milsap, on the WWVA Radio Jamboree in Wheeling, West Virginia. (The Jamboree could be heard at night on WWVA radio in 16 states and parts of Canada at that time.) Sandy also got to perform at "Jamboree In The Hills" where most of the top Nashville country acts of the day performed. However, as Sandy entered her twenty's she began to feel that, even though she still loved music and performing, the type of compromising life style that sometimes went with it all was just not what Sandy was looking for. So, give a listen to Sandy's story and see how it all turned out. I'm sure you'll like it. It's truly interesting!! Ron King .
Like Ross from the tv show Friends said, “PIVOT!” That's exactly what our guest Ron King has done. This episode dives into how Ron had to juggle reinventing himself through entrepreneurship, the joys and woes of fatherhood, and the challenges of coparenting.
Dave Byers, a Christian musician, singer and songwriter from East Liverpool, Ohio is our guest on this edition of the Ron King Show. Dave talks about his younger days when he wanted to become a secular rock star to eventually becoming a Christian and then, further down the road, becoming the worship leader at his church. During the podcast Dave relates a humorous story about how three fathers of three different girls that he was dating, one by one, all tried to lead Dave to Christ. Dave also talks about being one of the first people to try to sell merchandise on the internet (mattresses, headboards and music supplies) and being quite successful at it. In addition, Dave discusses his time in the Air Force in Alaska and getting married while he was still stationed there. Dave Byers is a very interesting and funny guest and we're quite sure that you're going to enjoy this edition of the Ron King Show!
Hi Folks! Well, we've changed things up a bit this time around on the Ron King Show. Ordinarily, we feature Christian singers and bands on our podcast, but on this episode of the Ron King Show we are featuring the brand new, first time published, Christian book author Paul Hatalsky from Houston, PA. The title of Paul's book, co-authored with his wife Kathy, is "Life's Little Tidbits." In his book, Paul takes mundane every day occurrences in his life and, in a very interesting manner, is able to equate these occurrences with just the right scripture verse to teach and enlighten the reader. Even though this is Paul's first book we find it to be entertaining and thought provoking . If you are a writer, or if you've just thought about writing a book someday you'll probably enjoy listening to this podcast. I hope you enjoy listening to the show as much as I enjoyed producing it. Blessings! Ron King .
Christian/Country musician and pastor Mitch Wall from Fayette City, PA is our guest on this episode of the Ron King Show. Mitch tells an interesting story about how he started out playing country songs in bars and clubs, eventually got saved at a Billy Graham Crusade in the old Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh, PA, started bible school and years later felt the Lord's call to become a Baptist pastor. In addition to being a fine preacher, Mitch is also a really good guitarist, singer and songwriter. On this episode of the Ron King Show you'll get to hear a fun song that Mitch wrote and recorded called, "Honk If You Love Jesus." I am sure that many Christian musicians who listen to this podcast we'll be able to relate to singing and playing in bars and then getting saved and turning their lives, and their music, over to the Lord. I hope you enjoy the podcast, I enjoyed producing it! Blessings, Ron King .

As folks who know me are aware, I love Country Gospel Music. And I'm always thrilled when I find a new artist who is deserving of some recognition. One of those artists I had the pleasure of meeting recently. Her name is Robyn Wells, she lives in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania with her family and fronts a country/gospel group called Heart & Soul. Robyn was born in West Virginia and lives on a farm with some horses, a donkey, a bunch of dogs and some cats; she is genuine country through and through and loves the Lord and her family with all her heart. The members of Heart & Soul include Robyn's daughter Rachel ,who plays bass and sings harmony vocals; Robyn's husband Allen, who plays lead guitar; Robyn's cute little grand-daughter Savannah, who provides percussion and sometimes Robyn's son, Shane, who can play a multitude of instruments--and all of them quite well! On this episode of the Ron King Show Robyn talks about her early days on the road with her daughter Rachel singing her original gospel songs and making and selling her own CD's; and, of course, she talks about her family and her faith. We also manage to work in some of Robyn's music on the show so you can hear just how good a singer she really is. I really enjoyed the interview with Robyn Wells and I hope you will too! Blessings, Ron King .
Justin Hartzell, a hip-hop Christian music artist and ordained minister from Washington, PA is our guest on this edition of the Ron King Show. This conversation is particularly interesting to Christian, and even secular, music artists because it offers a behind- the- scenes look at a Christian music genre that that is rarely talked about and is often misunderstood; especially by the Church. On this show, Justin answers some tough questions such as: How does the Church view Christian hip-hop music? Is there any difference between hip-hop and rap music? How do you reconcile being a hip-hop artist with being an ordained minister and what do you think will be the future of Christian, and even secular, music after the Covid 19 pandemic is over? So, join us for this very interesting interview. Christian hip-hop may not be your particular cup of tea as far as Christian music goes but you will see that, for the type of music Justin does, he does it extremely well; Justin is a very talented artist! I hope you like it! Blessings! Ron King .

The Oklahoma plan for Group Hospital Services of Oklahoma opened its doors in the Tulsa Loan building at 4th and Main, March 15, 1940. The plan would soon adopt the Blue Cross name and logo. The interest in pre-paid hospital care had actually started in 1929 with a group of 1,500 school teachers in Dallas who contracted with Baylor Medical Center. These plans evolved as a result of the Great Depression. In 1939, Oklahoma doctors went to Dallas to investigate this new form of paying for health care costs. The following year, Group Hospital Services of Oklahoma was born. The state headquarters was established in Tulsa since it was the first Oklahoma city to come up with $5,000 in seed money. By the end of 1949, Blue Cross of Oklahoma membership stood at 300,000 individuals and Blue Shield membership had reached over 169,000.For more history of Blue Cross/Blue Shield, you are invited to listen to two former Blue Cross Chief Executive Officers, Ralph Rhoades and Ron King, on Voices of Oklahoma.com

Our regular listeners first met writer/director KEVIN GOOD and co-writer/actor JENNA ST. JOHN two years ago when DINNER WITH THE ALCHEMIST first hit the festival circuit. With a distribution deal in place and the film now available to all, Kevin and Jenna are back, and this time live in-studio - and with another new production in tow, their 3-month old son Chaucer! Talk about balancing independent filmmaking and family! Jenna goes in-depth into her writing process and the research and historical fact incorporated into this blend of period lushness with alchemy, voodoo and murder, while Kevin talks cinematography, special effects, taking the feature film leap and more. At the midpoint of the show, we go back in history with a look at the fascinating documentary THE MILLIONAIRES' UNIT. The story of a group of Yale students who were the first U.S. Naval aviators first to fly for America in WW1, co-directors RON KING and DARROCH GREER are on hand to talk about their seven-year journey over three continents to bring this piece of history to the masses. From impeccable research to interviews with family descendants and historians to recreations of WWI battles to the importance of including actual aircraft and flight simulations from the day (including a Sopwith Camel on loan from Peter Jackson), our discussion with Ron and Darroch is not to be missed! And an interesting sidebar, many of the filmmakers, including narrator Bruce Dern, have ties to these airmen, many who made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom. http://behindthelensonline.net http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com

Mechanical insulation is the topic this week when we talk to our guest Ron King, Consultant and Past President of the National Insulation Association. Insulation goes beyond "the pink stuff" and for ductwork, piping, and equipment it is probably the biggest unsung hero of the green sustainablility movement. Jokes You Can Use: A married couple, both avid golfers, was discussing the future one night. "Honey", the wife said, "if I were to die and you were to remarry, would you two live in this house?" "I suppose so - it's paid for." "How about our car? Continued the woman. "Would the two of you keep that? "I suppose so - it's paid for." "What about my golf clubs? Would you let her use them too? "Heck, no," the husband blurted out. "She is left-handed." A French man nearly got away with stealing a number of paintings from the Louvre. However, after planning the robbery and getting in and out and past security, he was captured only three blocks away when his Econoline ran out of gas. When asked how he could mastermind such a crime and then make such an obvious error, he replied, “I had no Monet to buy Degas to make the Van Gogh.” This guy goes up to a bar located at the top of the Empire State Building in New York. Title: Teaching Secrets that we just gave away! Jokes: Technology The world's first fully computerized airliner was ready for its maiden flight without pilots or crew. The plane taxied to the loading area automatically, its doors opened automatically, the steps came out automatically. The passengers boarded the plane and took their seats. The steps retreated automatically, the doors closed, and the airplane taxied toward the runway. "Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen," a voice intoned. "Welcome to the debut of the world's first fully computerized airliner. Everything on this aircraft is run electronically. Just sit back and relax. Nothing can go wrong ... Nothing can go wrong...nothing can go wrong...." Homework Assignments A father came home from work one night to find his little boy sitting on the cat, with a pen and paper in his hand. As we talked, it was obvious that there was a lot of confusion between formative and summative, especially when it came to grades. I shared your example of the students who both learned the content, but started their learning at different levels. As you talked about you, it was clear that if a student had more prior knowledge they would probably get a better grade. But a student who learned the same things, yet had less prior knowledge would probably not get as good a grade. This was a striking example for the participants in the workshop. All of a sudden, people got a much better understanding of formative assessment, summative assessment and its impact on grading. I think it is a great example and it had a great impact on 40 science teachers.
