HIMSS, The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) is an American not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving health care in quality, safety, cost-effectiveness and access through the best use of information technology and management systems. One way of helping hospitals advance their digitalization efforts is with the help of maturity models. These are assessment questionnaires that position hospital on a level from 1 to 7 on a maturity scale. They can help hospitals benchmark their current digital position and plan better which steps to take to advance on their digital transformation journey. So far, HIMSS designed 6 maturity models: EMRAM - for EMRs, INFRAM - healthcare IT infrastructure, AMAM - for analytics, DIAM - for medical imaging, CCMM - continuity of care model, C-COMM - community care outcomes. In this discussion John Rayner, Senior Director Analytics - EMEA at HIMSS, talks about different maturity models, how hospitals use them, what to be mindful of in digital transformation of healthcare, and more. Key Takeaways: HIMSS models provide a structured pathway for hospitals to achieve digital maturity and improve care. Leadership, clinical engagement, and infrastructure are critical for successful digital transformation. Interoperability is the cornerstone of modern healthcare, requiring system-wide alignment. Key benefits for hospitals: Understanding the current level of digital maturity and identifying gaps. Setting a roadmap for improvement aligned with global standards. Enhancing decision-making for procurement and strategy. Demonstrating progress to stakeholders, ensuring investments lead to measurable outcomes. Validating digital maturity levels, which can serve as a benchmark or "badge" of excellence. Video: https://youtu.be/iHMC339XHIo www.facesofdigitalhealth.com Newsletter: https://fodh.substack.com/

Dr. John Blair, CEO of MedAllies, was created to address the lack of communication and coordination between healthcare providers and the importance of interoperability in healthcare. While healthcare has become more complicated over the years, with advancements in technology and automation, the lack of reimbursement for coordination of care has contributed to the problem of lack of interoperability. There are incentives and penalties associated with interoperability, including information blocking and the Trust Exchange Framework and Common Agreement (TEFCA) initiative, which aims to standardize interoperability platforms and reduce barriers to entry for healthcare organizations. John explains, "But if you look at hospitals, you've got about 70% of the hospitals in the country connected to a national network. That means there's 30% that are not. And then, if you start to break that down and look at rural areas versus urban, there's a big disconnect. These smaller rural hospitals tend to be far less connected than the larger urban hospitals. Then, if you even break it down in the urban areas, you look at certain areas, the more marginalized communities, and again, those hospitals are less likely to be connected. So that's the real issue right now as we're trying to move with interoperability, and as we're making more and more success or having more and more success, there are still those who are falling behind." "Well, interoperability should improve care and care for an individual, the experience for the individual, the efficiency of the individual getting their care amongst multiple providers, and also improve the efficiency for providers in terms of coordination between other providers. And it will cost money to do that. I mean, it costs money for those connections to run these platforms -- millions and millions of dollars to run these annually." #MedAllies #HealthcareNetworks #Hospitals #Interoperability #HealthcareCosts #TEFCA medallies.com Download the transcript here

The Brainy Business | Understanding the Psychology of Why People Buy | Behavioral Economics
In today's conversation, I am joined by Dr. Mike Rucker, author of the brand new book, The Fun Habit, which just came out a couple of days ago on January 3, 2023. Mike is an organizational psychologist and charter member of the International Positive Psychology Association whose work has been published in the International Journal of Workplace Health Management and Nutrition Research. His ideas about fun and health have been featured in The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Fast Company, The Telegraph, Psychology Today, Forbes, Vox, Thrive Global, Mindbodygreen, and more. He was named one of ten digital changemakers by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, and currently serves as a senior leader at Active Wellness. And, not surprisingly, today's conversation is all about fun! We also talk about framing and word choice and how fun and change really do go together. It's a great chat that I can't wait to share with you. Show Notes: [00:41] In today's conversation, I am joined by Dr. Mike Rucker, author of the brand new book The Fun Habit. [02:32] Mike shares about himself and his background. He is an organizational psychologist by trade but focuses more on behavioral science. [02:44] His new book, The Fun Habit looks at living a life more joyfully through actively pursuing the activities you engage in rather than pursuing happiness. [04:04] From 2009-2016 he optimized his life and tried to extrapolate as much happiness as he could. [06:33] He found out that the more he tried to chase happiness the unhappier he was and he wanted to figure out why. [09:08] We can have more longevity with certain tasks if we add a component that makes it pleasurable for us. We do mundane things – with a little creativity, we can reframe them. [12:07] If we take control over how we spend our time and we bias it towards fun things, ultimately we are going to perceive the world in a more positive and optimistic light. [14:41] If you don't take time off the table for yourself you are not showing up as the best version of yourself. [16:42] When our lives are overly habituated and we are always doing the same stuff we store those memories as single units. [18:58] Most people live this habituated life and that becomes comfortable, but you forget that you can have a little bit of time for yourself. [20:42] Disruption is a great opportunity for change. [21:42] The initial step is to sit down and brainstorm what you would like to do more for fun. This could include past hobbies, things you authentically feel connected to, and things you long to do. Par your list down to 8-15 things so it is actionable. [23:34] An important second step is to make sure it is not an exercise of adding things to your already busy life. Mike suggests doing a time audit. [26:16] We need to swap out the “low-hanging fruit” activities for ones that light us up more. [27:15] First create space in your schedule. Once you have that, use the list you made to integrate things that are more fun into your life. [28:29] A lot of times the biggest impact is looking for a way to change an activity so it is better, or adding something on. [30:56] When you hear about fun interventions at work you need to make sure everyone can come in and have fun at the activity in a safe place. Leaders need to be setting an example. [33:07] Fun in the workplace generally unites you around a common goal. Cohesion comes from wanting to accomplish something together. [35:16] Because our brains work in micro-moments and microdecisions, we really need to be looking at the little things. (Change is more than just the big stuff that requires a project team.) [38:00] People who have a best friend at work are more loyal, happier, engaged, and better employees. Helping to incorporate fun and allowing people to connect is valuable. [40:45] You can either empower the individual so that they can have more fun and more vitality when they come back to the office or you can create it from an empathic standpoint where you are creating opportunities for organic fun. [41:37] Fun is not the same for everyone. [42:56] If the outcome of whatever you are trying to do can still be the same but allow people to do it in a way that feels comfortable to them, you are going to have more fun every time. [44:10] Melina's closing thoughts [44:54] We are a species that is meant to have fun. We should take the time and make the effort to bring fun back into our lives. Thanks for listening. Communication is crucial to creating the best end of life experience possible. We're talking about what to say, how to say it, and when to say it. Knowing how to communicate with their end of life workers helps patients and their caregivers to get better care. Patients and caregivers should feel comfortable talking about symptoms to their hospice team and asking questions. The professionals providing care can't fix problems they don't know about. It's also important to know what concerns need to be reported immediately and what information can wait. The same holds true for the team members providing the care. Patients and caregivers can be confused by medical jargon or terms. Education should be provided in ways that are easy to understand. Providing information quickly can also be very important. Any instructions should be clear and concise. It can be really helpful to leave a set of written instructions in the house for caregivers to reference when they're providing care on their own. And don't forget compliments - saying something positive about the care someone is providing can make their day. Good communication will influence the quality of care you provide - and the patient's quality of life. Want to encourage a caregiver or say thank you to a friend? In this episode of CISO Insiders, we welcome Ross Leo, Master Consultant in Healthcare Information Security, for an exciting and eye-level conversation about his journey into cybersecurity, advice for young cybersecurity professionals just starting out, and the evolution of the role of CISO.--Podcast highlights:What advice would you give to someone who wants to pursue a career similar to yours? You have to explore your undiscovered passion in life & find things that excite you. For me it was solving problems, bringing in solutions & finding new ways to put things together. If you follow your passion, the results can be very rewarding. What I would recommend is to have a passion & not have a rigid mindset and focus on solving certain kinds of cybersecurity problems that our society faces today.Thoughts on the role of the CISO in the IT departmentIf you really want to protect the information, you will need a broader vision that goes beyond being stuck in the IT department. A CISO being stuck in the IT department might limit the way you tackle the problem at hand. The role of a CISO is business oriented. It's all about the business & the information that the particular business holds. Being focused on the business itself & knowing its value tackles a wider range of concerns.--00:35 Guest Introduction and professional journey02:04 Icebreakers03:36 What's one thing you wish you would have known before starting your cybersecurity career?05:30 Your biggest failure & accomplishment.12:06 What advice would you give to someone who wants to pursue a cybersecurity career similar to yours?17:24 Thoughts on the role of the CISO in the IT department23:44 What were the resources that worked for you when it comes to learning cybersecurity?26:03 Debunking one common myth about cybersecurity30:38 The main concerns of CISO & focus points36:36 How the role of the CISO is evolving?39:28 What should cybersecurity vendors stop doing?43:00 Closing comments--Connect with Ben Ben-Aderet: https://www.linkedin.com/in/benbenaderet/Connect with Ross Leo: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ross-a-leo-1503a31/

With 400,000 concepts and tens of millions of relevancy links and mappings to data, Medicomp is prepared to handle the flood of information expected with the standardization of person-centered care. Just finalized in January, TEFCA, the Trusted Exchange Framework, and Common Agreement is expected to provide an infrastructure for sharing information. It might be for someone with a diagnosed disease or a surgical process where it's a need for pre-operative or post-operative information. Their mobile intelligence platform is designed to deliver content to patients at the moment when it makes the most sense on their preferred screen. Michael explains, "So when we transform lives by delivering wisdom, it's in the format of short-form video. What we find is people love video, they just don't want it to be long. So, we found that the best way to be able to educate someone is with kind of the three biggest consumer behavioral shifts." "But short-form video, what's tough about brief videos, about 90 seconds, is you can't really talk about anything super complex in 90 seconds, but you can if you put the videos together in what we call an arc or an arc of engagement, a sequence of video content.
