Directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch are legendary stunt performers and coordinators, and one of the joys of their movies getting bigger with each installment is seeing Stahelski (who now directs the films solo) fold in more and more action pros from around the world, like Mark Dacascos of Wu Assassins fame or The Raid's Yayan Ruhian. John Wick: Chapter 4 continues this tradition, notably with Hong Kong star Donnie Yen and the king of direct-to-video action himself, Scott Adkins - but like we've never seen him before.

The Keanu Reeves-led action franchise is the brightest bright spot on Lionsgate's theatrical slate and their most obvious hope for a 2023 breakout. Directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch are legendary stunt performers and coordinators, and one of the joys of their movies getting bigger with each installment is seeing Stahelski (who now directs the films solo) fold in more and more action pros from around the world, like Mark Dacascos of Wu Assassins fame or The Raid's Yayan Ruhian. John Wick: Chapter 4 continues this tradition, notably with Hong Kong star Donnie Yen and the king of direct-to-video action himself, Scott Adkins - but like we've never seen him before. Scott Adkins is normally seen doing insanely athletic kicks. He has the sort of physique you might expect from someone who must convincingly portray action heroes who can knock someone's lights out with his shins. Here, on the other hand, is how he will appear as "Killa" in John Wick: Chapter 4:Adkins is playing against type here in a way that feels a lot like Colin Farrell's Penguin in The Batman - and previous Adkins movies like Accident Man: Hitman's Holiday show off the action star's willingness to have fun while kicking ass. Regardless of how much pain Adkins dishes out (or doesn't!) as Killa, John Wick: Chapter 4 is Adkins' highest-profile role to date. It may be a lot of people's first exposure to him. What a kick they're gonna get out of seeing what he's usually up to, once they dig into his back catalog. John Wick: Chapter 4 is in theaters March 24th. The Asian Action Cast casually strolls into Wira - Adrian Teh's 2019 Malaysian action-drama which shows how crime, corruption and safe sex can tear families and communities apart. The only cure for such evil is carefully manicured facial hair, incredible chiselled abs and unbending sense of righteousness. Starring Malaysian action eye-candy Hairul Azreen and featuring the Raid's Mad Dog himself, Yayan Ruhian, the martial arts action does not dissapoint. It doesn't quite hit hard enough to break the bone in action or drama but it moves along and does reach a decent climax of violence and explosions.

An action movie needs to make it's action scenes distinct, come up with fresh choreography that it visually interesting, and use cinematography to capture the action in a way that lets the audience see and feel the hits. The Raid does ALL of that, with meticulously planned fight choreography from Iko and Yayan and the use of a figrig on a small digital camera to capture martial arts in a way not seen before. Before they ever stepped foot on the set, the fight scenes were rehearsed with the camera movements in the gym through a process called previs, which has since become a standard practice of industry leading stunt team: 87eleven. Through his trio of martial arts films - Merantau (2009), The Raid (2011) and The Raid 2 (2014) - filmmaker Gareth Evans helped to put Indonesian action cinema on the map, launched the careers of a new generation of fight stars (including Iko Uwais, Yayan Ruhian and Cecep Arif Rahman), and created some of the most exhilarating, inventive, and game-changing fight sequences of modern times. Not bad for a young filmmaker from South Wales, who grew up watching Jackie Chan films with his dad, who chose to invest in a video camera when he turned 17 instead of learning to drive. Following his adventures in Indonesia, Evans has since returned to Wales where he has been developing a range of projects exploring new mediums and genres, including the British gothic horror, Apostle (2018) - available on Netflix - and the nine-part TV series, Gangs of London, which lands on Sky Atlantic in the UK on 23 April 2020. The show, based on a computer game, sees Evans return to a contemporary action setting, working alongside his frequent collaborator, UK stunt coordinator Jude Poyer (featured in Episode 48), with a story focusing on the fall-out following the death of a gang leader. Listen as Evans explains how he believes Gangs of London contains some of his finest action work, as well as exploring the steps that led to him creating The Raid films, often regarded by critics and fans alike as two of the best modern-day martial arts films of all time. We also investigate the possibility of a reunion with Iko Uwais, the secrets to his visceral style, and what other genres he would still like to explore.
