This episode features Lynda, who shares her journey of faith, career, and personal transformation. Lynda Tait Randle, as Bill Gaither has fondly introduced her for over a decade, was born in the inner city of Washington, D.C. She is the middle child of seven and feels blessed to have had the privilege of being raised in a Christian home. Despite being led to the Lord at the young age of 12, it would be years later before she really experienced the freedom from bondage that only God could give. Music became a way out of pain and heartache for Lynda and as a result of this God-given gift, many doors of opportunity have opened up for her.Lynda's distinct alto voice has created opportunities for her to minister across the United States and around the world. Her gift has allowed her to share the stage with musical and spiritual legends such as Andre Crouch and Billy Graham, and she has been a cherished favorite on the Gaither Homecoming videos and tour since 1993.

Episode 264-Through it All How can we be thankful in the midst everything is going on in the world today? We've been through a lot in the last few years and I just want to stop a minute and thank God even for the difficulties many of us have gone through. One of my favorite songs is Through It All, written by Andre Crouch in 1971 after having purchased an engagement ring for a young woman. He was heart-broken when she announced that she was getting married, but not to him. He wrote these words: “I thank God for the mountains, and I thank Him for the valleys, I thank Him for the storms He brought me through; for if I'd never had a problem I wouldn't know that He could solve them…I'd never know what faith in God could do.  “Through it all, through it all, I've learned to trust in Jesus, I've learned to trust in God;  “Through it all, through it all, I've learned to depend upon His Word.” Even though it was written 50 years ago, this song seems perfect for today. We weren't designed to do life on our own. We need God. So I challenge you this Thanksgiving to think about how going through difficulties has made you stronger and thank God for them.  1 Thess. 5:18 TPT: “And in the midst of everything be always giving thanks, for this is God's perfect plan for you in Christ Jesus.”  For more about giving thanks in the midst of both the good and the bad, listen to episode 264—Through It All. God is at work through the good and the bad of our history and present circumstances. #theloriclineshow Interested in learning more about becoming a devoted follower of Christ? Go to follow.lifeword.org! ~~~ Have you ever spent any time looking back through the branches of your family tree? It can be fascinating what you find. Just me mentioning a family tree I know some of you get excited because YOU have done your homework! You've done the digging, the research and you have pieced together ancestral history from photos, birth and death certificates, historical records, news stories and anything pretty much that gives a glimpse into your history. You may be like my friend Lawrence. He has invested countless hours into researching his family tree. Not long ago, through a conversation about his last name, he discovered a lady, who was in his early morning work out class, was his cousin! How cool is that? He was so excited to know more family! Pieces of his story coming together, it's beautiful. I was raised in a small town and my Grandfather, on my Mom's side, was one of seven siblings. Over the years I was always hearing, ‘oh yeah, they're your cousin'. I had to be careful who I went out with! But seriously, the branches keep going and going don't they? I'm thankful for the many, many roots that make up who I am. Often though, when it comes to our history, we might not always like what we find. What may have been thought to be one thing, could have been quite the other. Careful digging around THAT tree, you might be surprised what you find! But when we do, we see a story unfold, that although may have broken roots and missing pieces, it's a story that still blooms beautifully when met with the amazing grace of God. It's our story. We all have one. Our stories are not something to compare, they're chapters that lead us all to today. What we choose to do with THIS day is what matters. You see no matter what you may find IN your history, or what may be IN your lineage, God has been and will continue to work through it all. A favorite song of mine that says it best is ‘Through it All', written in 1971 by Andre Crouch. Through it all, through it all, I've learned to trust in Jesus, I've learned to trust in God. Through it all, through it all, I've learned to depend upon His word. If I was to sum up my life in one line, it would be that lyric. Through it all, I've learned to trust in Jesus. I can look back in my history and it's not perfect. There are broken pieces because WE are broken, but the beauty of knowing Jesus is that IN those broken places, He mends us and tends gently to our hearts and something beautiful grows. In the Old Testament I love the story of the child King Josiah. He ascended the throne at the age of eight! Josiah was the grandson of Manasseh, known for being the worst king of Judah. He was bad, really bad. When Josiah's father Amon was assassinated, he became the king of Judah. Although the kings before him did NOT follow God's law and ways, Josiah had some good deep roots and he tapped into them. While his immediate family was not so great, he was born into the Judean royalty lineage of David, Solomon and Rehoboam. He looked back to the Godly kings before him and once again upheld God's law. He couldn't change his history, but he did break the chains of his past. He was a good king. 2 Kings 22:2 He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and followed completely the ways of his father David, not turning aside to the right or to the left. Josiah didn't have much to build on when it came to his immediate family tree. So he looked deeper and he looked to God. I love that Josiah's Hebrew name means “the Lord supports”. Maybe you look into your history and feel like you don't have good solid roots, remember Josiah. You're not alone. God sees you. He loves you and HE will support you and give you strength to break free from the chains of your past as you trust and seek Him. That's the truth. Good fruit does come from broken roots. Go read Matthew chapter one. It's the family tree of Jesus and you'll find Josiah's name in verse eleven. Through it all, the good the bad and the ugly, God IS at work and He meets us and supports us as we look to Him as our part of the story is being written. I'm Lori Cline.

He has also been involved in TV shows such as "Our Dementia Choir" with Vicky McClure and "The Masked Singer." Mark made the arrangement of "Stand By Me," which was performed by the Kingdom Choir at the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in 2018. This performance has been streamed over 4 million times. Mark is here to discuss how to sing and teach the gospel vocal style. KEY TAKEAWAYS Gospel music is a Christian genre rooted in the black experience. Known for emotive vocals, call-and-response, and Christian themes, it often features choirs and instruments. Gospel expresses spirituality, joy, or sorrow, with improvisation common. Evolving into sub-genres like traditional and contemporary gospel, it has influenced various music styles, playing a significant role in religious worship and shaping American musical development. When it comes to the question of the cultural appropriation of gospel music, Mark believes that you have to give acknowledgment to where that music came from. You have to think about the composer and the spiritual background of where the music came from and reference it when you come to teach it.  The most important thing you need to remember when singing gospel music is that you need to believe in the words that are coming out of your mouth. Even if you're not a religious person, you should think of a thing or idea that lifts you up and gives you strength.  When singing gospel, allow yourself to be more vulnerable and get wrapped up in the emotion of the piece. Having a licence to be more vulnerable will make it more likely you affect the audience and make them leave with your story.  BEST MOMENTS  ‘Gospel is songs of good news'  ‘It blew my mind because I'd only heard traditional gospel music' ‘They were creating these songs out of a need for freedom'  ‘If you connect you will affect'  ‘We were born singers and society does its best to beat it out of us'  EPISODE RESOURCES  Guest Website: https://markdelisser.com/ Social Media: Instagram: @markdelisser & @mdlsingers Relevant Links & Mentions:  Artists Mentioned: Thomas Dorsey; Kirk Franklin; Maverick City; Mahalia Jackson; Andre Crouch; Walter Hawkins; Richard Smallwood; Donald Lawrence; Johnathan McReynolds; Daryl Coley; Take Six; The Winans; Mischa Paris; Tai Trabet; Anita Wilson; Mary Mary; Tom Odell; CeCe Winans; The Darkness  (Book) So you Want to Sing Gospel: A Guide for Performers by Dr Trineice Robinson-Martin Dr Trineice Robinson-Martin Dane Chalfin Felton and Norton Community Gospel Choir  BAST Book A Call: basttraining.com/bookacall/ ABOUT THE GUEST  Mark De-Lisser is one of the most sought after choral directors and vocal coaches in the UK. In this episode we celebrate the incredible musical legacy of saxophonist, composer and bandleader Wayne Shorter, born August 25, 1933 in Newark New Jersey and passed away March 2, 2023. My special guest is Alex Acuña, a prolific drummer, percussionist, composer, and bandleader who has amassed more 900 recording credits. (its probably more now) After touring with Perez Prado during the 1960s and playing with Elvis Presley in Las Vegas in the early '70s -  In 1974, Acuña and his family moved to Las Vegas. He continued working with Prado's show band, and played for Elvis Presley's Las Vegas residencies in addition to serving in backing bands and orchestras for Olivia Newton John and the Temptations. Drummer/percussionist Don Alias heard him with the latter and suggested he try playing jazz. Alias arranged an audition with Weather Report and Acuña joined that band for their 1975 tour. He moved to Los Angeles and played on the band's two most successful studio outings, Black Market and Heavy Weather, and he toured with the group until 1978. During his tenure, Weather Report backed Joni Mitchell on Don Juan's Reckless Daughter. He has been a recording and touring sideman to a dazzling array of artists ranging from Paul McCartney and Joni Mitchell to Andre Crouch and Blondie. The stellar & diverse list of artists Alex has worked with seems never ending, the word prolific is an understatement. Wayne Shorter was a saxophonist, bandleader and composer. His compositions became jazz standards and he received worldwide recognition and critical praise.  Wayne Shorter won 12 Grammy Awards. His mastery of the soprano saxophone earned him (beginning in 1970) Down Beat's annual poll-winner on that instrument… winning the critics' poll for 10 consecutive years and the readers' poll for 18 years.  The New York Times music critic Ben Ratliff described Shorter in 2008 as "probably jazz's greatest living small-group composer and a contender for greatest living improviser". Via Wayne Shorter, We Love You! Source: https://drummerworld.com/drummers/Alex_Acuna.htmlSource: https://www.allaboutjazz.com/musicians/alex-acuna/Host Maggie LePique, a radio veteran since the 1980's at NPR in Kansas City Mo. Conversations Podcast with Terry Law & Scot Law

In this episode, Terry and Scot open with a reminder about hope. In turbulent times, the people of God must choose to hope, to run toward hope, and to embrace it. Hope is an action. In the early 1970's, God opened the door for Living Sound (a music group from Oral Roberts University) to minister in South Africa. At the time, the Afrikaner National Party controlled the government. In 1948 when the ANP stepped into power, they instituted a political and social system called “apartheid” which literally means “apart-hood” or “apartness”. This wicked system of white minority rule divided South Africans into separate groups based entirely on race and caused extreme suffering to blacks. God heard decades of cries for justice, and sent Living Sound to the nation with a message of hope and peace that changed the course of history.   Living Sound's first tour of South Africa lasted for a year, and God brought them back many times over the next decade. On one of those tours, a musician named Andre Crouch joined Living Sound. In this Conversations podcast, Terry fondly recalls that tour with Andre. At a time when blacks were not legally allowed to attend events with whites, Living Sound welcomed people of all color to their concerts, including Andre, a black man with a powerful anointing on his life. Andre ministering on stage with black and white musicians sent a powerful message of hope to the crowds who gathered. On that tour, more than 10,000 people made decisions for Christ and later became Christian leaders in South Africa and around the world.  Looking back at Living Sound in South Africa during apartheid, we remember God's faithfulness. God is a God of hope and has answers for our turbulent days. It is only the Gospel of Jesus Christ that changes hearts.

This edition of Inside MusiCast takes us into the mind and music of a true native of Southern California, where at a very young age he was playing piano, and by High School he was learning harmony from one of Stan Kenton’s principal arrangers. Fast forward through a career that has spanned three decades and you’ll find a master arranger, producer, and session player who has left an impressive mark on many musical genres. You’ll find his musical genius injected into hits for Faith Hill and Randy Travis; Christina Aguilera and Tina Turner; Donna Summer and Barbara Streisand; Manhattan Transfer and Larry Carlton; and Helen Baylor and Andre Crouch. In the jazz scene, his highly acclaimed ‘Baked Potato Super Live’, recorded with Toto members Steve Lukather and Jeff Porcaro, along with ‘Pops’ Popwell from the Jazz Crusaders, shook up the music scene as one of the freshest live jazz recordings in history. It still remains as a ‘must have’ among music aficionados to this day. His jazz collaborations continue to this day. Whether performing live, in studio or even on television, our guest also continues to be in high demand internationally. Inside MusiCast welcomes the master of the West Coast Groove, Greg Mathieson.

Our guest has been blessed with one of the most distinctive voices in the music industry. His stand-out lead-vocals for the rock group Ambrosia have left impressionable hits in our minds over the years such as, Biggest Part of Me, How Much I Feel, Holding on to Yesterday, and You’re The Only Woman. Over his hit-packed career, he has continued to write and produce for diverse artists such as Brian McKnight, Michael McDonald, Natalie Cole, Patti LaBelle, Brian Setzer, Andre Crouch, Take 6, Bruce Hornsby, Chick Corea, Trisha Yearwood, Linda Ronstadt and others. Recently, he released his long-awaited new solo album, The Secret of Movin On on Concord/Peak records, highlighting vocal collaborations with Journey frontman Steve Perry, Heart’s Nancy Wilson, the Eagle’s Timothy B. Schmidt, and Dewey Bunell of America. It’s a definite must get album. We’re glad to welcome David Pack, our first guest of the new year, to Inside MusiCast.
