Here are six practical steps to become part of the “elephant removal team” for a healthier work culture: 1. Dump the arrogance. Approach your leader or team members with a spirit of humility and a genuine desire to help the organization. 2. Don't blame someone personally. Shift the focus from the individual to the organization. 3. Be clear about the negatives. How much does ignoring the elephant in the room cost the organization in quantifiable terms related to finances, resources – and even employees lost because of it. 4. Be clear about the positives of removing the elephant. Highlight the potential outcomes of addressing the issues and cast vision for the future. 5. Include everyone on the elephant removal team. Make it a team effort to foster collaboration. 6. Don't take sole credit for the removal. Acknowledge the contributions of the team. Unresolved issues can hold your ministry or organization back. Our Women in Power series for Women's History Month rolls on—today's guest is Lesley Jane Seymour, who has been editor-in-chief of four different magazines, something that is just not done. That is legends only stuff right there. I feel extra connected to her because she was editor-in-chief of Marie Claire, the magazine where I now work, from 2001 to 2006. She was also editor-in-chief of Redbook, YM, and More, and before taking on her role as an editor-in-chief worked at Women's Wear Daily, Vogue, and Glamour, so she has certainly cut a wide swath in this industry. Lesley was another icon of magazines who was very much present for what I call the golden age of magazines, and as we'll talk about in the show, I think a cornerstone of her story is resilience. In 2016, Meredith Corporation, which owned More, her last editor-in-chief role, announced it was closing the magazine. Lesley went back to school, receiving a master's degree in sustainability from Columbia. In 2018, she founded Covey Club, an online community for professional women, specifically over 40, that resembled More's demographic. Lesley calls Covey Club “a meeting place for lifelong learners,” and it continues to thrive today. Lesley maintains it's never too late to be all that you want to be, and, in addition to all of her work with Covey Club, she hosts the podcast “Reinvent Yourself”; she has really taken what others might wallow in and has turned this into purpose-driven work. She is also the author of two books, On the Edge: 100 Years of Vogue and I Wish My Parents Understood, and she has appeared on every major television news show you can think of from Today to Good Morning America to Hardball to MSNBC and CNN. I can't wait for you to get to know her. This week on the Pacey Performance Podcast, Rob is speaking to Former Head of Performance at Aston Villa and Rangers FC, Jordan Milsom. Jordan comes on and gives one of the most candid interviews we have had on the podcast. As Fitness Coach at Liverpool and two Head of Performance roles in the Premier League and Scottish Premier League, Jordan has a wealth of experience that he brings to this episode. In the first half of the episode we discuss his time at Liverpook at a Strength and Rehab Fitness Coach and he he developed the knoweldge required to rehab some of the most valuable assets in sport. We then went onto discuss his interactions with staff that were brought in by the manager and how he dealt with that as a club member of staff. In the second half of the episode he describes the role reversal as he became the "manager's guy" as he stepped up to a Head of Performance role at Rangers FC. Was he prepared to make that jump? How did he deal with club staff now that he was a "manager's guy"? And did he deskill in certain areas given that he was managing a department versus being on the ground with player's 24/7. In the final part of the podcast we talk about Jordan's time at Aston Villa and the experience of being losing his job. He describes what he could have done differently during his time at Aston Villa as well as what he and others can do to protect themselves should they get relieved of their duty by a club. If you want an open and honest look at what its like being a Head of Performance at a Premier League club, this is for you. And its not all rosy! Main talking points - S&C coach > rehab coach Gaps in traditional education when it comes to rehab for S&C coaches Rehab coach > Head of Performance What areas were you underprepared in What skills have you deskilled in by making that transition? Being a "manager's guy" What was it like working with a "manager's guy" at LFC? Then on the flipside, how did you cope with being the go-between between the manager and the performance and medical staff? Your experiences of being sacked along with the manager

Think and Be Fit: Fitness Redesigned

Losing your job does not have to be a disaster. It can actually be a blessing in disguise. Losing that nine to five job may have just opened a brand new world to you. The first thing to do is to realize that stressing over the situation is not going to help. In fact, it will just make the situation worse. Sit back and relax a bit. Then really start exploring the positive options you have. Let's explore just a few options you have. New Career Have you ever considered looking for a completely different career? What are your interests? What do you really enjoy doing? Don't let anyone tell you that you have to work in the same career your entire life. Easy Job Maybe it's time to just get an easy job. One that does not take any real skills or talents. Work an easy job for a while to reduce stress and just enjoy life. Do you enjoy talking with people? Maybe a job in retail sales would be a perfect fit for you. Go Back To School Regardless of your age you could take some time off from working and go back to school. How about train for a new career? Or maybe just take some classes for fun? You could go back to school part time and work an easy job part time if you don't have enough savings to attend school full time. Travel Have you had a dream to travel or take a well needed vacation? Now may be the perfect time to pack the bags and hit the road. Leave your worries behind for a while. Have a bucket list? How many things can you check off while traveling? Start A Business Have you thought about starting your own business? Why not now? There are many businesses you can start from home with very little money. Start writing your own paycheck and never worry about getting fired again. Have a hobby you really enjoy? Can you turn it into a business that you would love doing each day? Now take some time and really explore any of the options we covered above that peak your interest. Maybe a combination of two or more will suit you best. How about traveling and running your own business from a laptop computer? Can you see all the possibilities that just opened up to you by losing your job? Now was it that bad of a thing to happen? Thank you for joining me my name is Coach Dane and as Lifestyle Wellness Coach I Turn Positivity Into Possibility and help GenX Badasses get off the couch and start living their lives to the fullest by helping them achieve their health, wellness and life goals.
