In this episode, because Jan. 6th marked one year since the violent insurrection at the Capitol building, we discuss the systems of oppression that were on full display at the event, as well as other parts of history where that same “Christian” violence, white supremacy, and nationalism were in full force, and how these systems are embedded into every aspect of our society. Yooo we passed the 20th anniversary of 9/11. To commemorate this religiouys holiday  the worship leader and failed Republican politician S*an F*ucht, of Bethel Church fame, threw an event at the national mall in DC. The event was part of his “let us w*rship” tour that has been taking place around the country to protest COVID restrictions on churches. Notably, D*nald Tr*mp joined the rally through a pretty bizarre pre-recorded speech. You might be wondering, “who cares?” Good question. As people who are now very outside evangelicalism, it's easy to just ignore these folks, but I think there are some reasons to pay attention despite how cringy it all is. F*ucht is probably one of the more visible figures in evangelicalism and is clearly interested in conservative politics. He had a failed congressional run in California. He even took a trip to the White House to lay hands on and pray for D*nald Tr*mp before his first impeachment. Any democracy that leads to secularism is, for many in our nation, a false and heretical democracy that needs to be thwarted.
