We need to talk about an emerging reality that virtually all of my clients are telling me is their number one challenge right now.  Everyone is already dealing with multiple threats to federal funding. But now there's the additional reality that all the chaos and uncertainty at the federal level – from budget craziness to wildly fluctuating tariff policies – is destabilizing other funding sources. State and local government funding, foundation grants and corporate funding are all affected. As nonprofit leaders we're fighting for our federal funding, and now we're realizing that many of our other funding  sources are facing headwinds as well.  This has some very specific implications for our advocacy strategy. We need a way to get all of our funding decisionmakers to commit to continuing their full support for our work. And we have to deal with all of that at once.In this episode, we share:The number one strategic imperative in the fight for your federal funding in particularWhat's on all funding decisionmakers' minds right now, and why we need to shift their perspectiveThe two perspective shifts we must get decisionmakers to makeWhy your usual approach to messaging is unlikely to get the job doneThe three-part messaging equation that will help you succeed with every type of funderI'm preparing to launch a group coaching program that will focus specifically on helping you craft messaging that will shift decisionmakers' perspectives and get them on board with sustaining and even expanding your funding. This will be a coaching opportunity for a limited number of people to come in and be part of a group. There'll be some training, but most of it will be coaching and helping you to get your messaging dialed in so that you can address this pressing need.  What I'm seeing right now is there's nothing more important than this. If that sounds like something you'd like to be a part of, message me through the podcast website or on LinkedIn. I look forward to hearing from you!

It emphasized a powerful, personal experience of God's presence and the manifestation of spiritual gifts. The Assemblies of God is one of the largest Pentecostal denominations in the world, founded in 1914 in Hot Springs, Arkansas.Foursquare Church - Founded in 1923 by evangelist Aimee Semple McPherson in Los Angeles, California. In the mid-20th century, this emphasis spread beyond Pentecostal denominations to the broader Charismatic movement which embraced similar experiences of the Holy Spirit. The Jesus Movement in the 60's and 70's, along with Calvary Chapel. The Vineyard Movement began in the late 1970s and was founded by John Wimber. The first Vineyard church was officially established in 1982 in Anaheim, California.Catholic charismatic movementHillsong, Bethel Church, etc.In these environments you'll hear about “baptism with the HS”There's one main evidence: speaking in tonguesSo it becomes a huge focus in these churchesOften becomes the main thingIt'll freak you out if you've never seen it beforeBut what does the Bible say about it? That's what we'll answer today: What is the purpose of baptism with the Holy Spirit? We don't believe things based on how weird or normal they seemWe look to God and his Word in all we do (and believe) First of all, “baptism with the HS” is in the Bible, not just made up by the pentecostals and charismaticsThe term was coined by Jesus! Acts 1:5 (NLT) “John baptized with water, but in just a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”This is why the disciples went back to JerusalemPracticed disciplines of connection, prayer, Bible studyWaited on God with great expectationBut not exactly sure what it would look likeBaptism with the HS was a biblical concept way before it was a pentecostal thingThe real question is what is the purpose? That's what our text will answer todayBecause the Pentecostal movement traces its roots back to Acts ch...

In this episode of the Thoughtful Entrepreneur, your host Josh Elledge speaks with the Co-Owner and CNO of Camp Negotiation Systems, Todd Camp.Todd Camp has revolutionized the approach to this crucial aspect of business. His system assists negotiators, from startup co-founders to CEOs, in preparing, executing, and debriefing negotiations and business relationships. According to Todd, negotiation is not just about making deals; it's about making decisions. When asked whether negotiation is more of an art or a science, Todd leans towards science, citing the role of emotion in decision-making as proven by neuroscience. However, he acknowledges that the way individuals communicate—their mannerisms, speech pace, body language, and choice of words—is where the artistry comes into play.Todd challenges the notion that negotiations with entities like the government are devoid of emotion. He argues that even in such scenarios, individuals are driven by emotional factors, such as how they are rewarded or graded for their performance. For service providers, Todd emphasizes the importance of understanding that decisions are made in the client's world, not ours. He advises spending time early in relationships to truly understand the client's challenges and how you can provide solutions that benefit them.Todd recommends asking open-ended questions that start with "what" and "how" to encourage clients to articulate their needs and vision. This approach helps uncover the true value you can provide, rather than pitching features and benefits prematurely.Key Points from the Episode:Overview of the work done by Camp Negotiation SystemsThe role of emotion in decision-making and negotiationThe importance of understanding the other party's perspectiveThe art and science of negotiationNegotiation in government contracts and procurementThe mindset and approach in sales conversationsThe value of asking good, open-ended questionsOvercoming discomfort in asking probing questionsThe work and approach of Camp Negotiation Systems todayAbout Todd Camp:Todd Camp is the influential owner and chief negotiation officer of Camp Systems, a Silicon Valley-based company widely recognized by major media outlets such as CNN, CNBC, The Wall Street Journal, Fortune, Harvard Business Review, Fast Company, and Inc. Trigger Warning: Discussion of death at 5:41–8:09This is a special edition podcast episode: Eight years ago — on the exact day we recorded this episode — Krista's previous partner to Will suddenly died. While we tend to think about loss and grief as negative experiences, we don't always think about the richness or gifts that can be relieved through the process. In this episode, we explore Krista's loss and lessons from eight years of distance, but also, how grief can serve as an unexpected doorway to our next greatest calling. Krista shares how a deep loss and her dark night of the soul triggered years of healing and processing, but also gave her profound insight to stand for something she really wanted, and an uncanny commitment to co-create it in this lifetime: her extraordinary marriage with Will. Our vulnerable share comes from the belief that when we have the right support to process and to heal, our losses can ultimately lead us to important life lessons that we potentially otherwise wouldn't learn. However in order to find the “gold” we have to move through the hard feelings to get to the gold. Our invitation for you this week is to reflect deeply and hold your losses. When one partner shows signs of low grade depression, it can sometimes be hard to know how to effectively provide support. If left unaddressed, not only is there an “elephant in the room” but it also can leave unintended negative impacts on the relationship. Often, depression can be viewed as a “problem” that's usually left up to the person who is experiencing the depression to figure out how to overcome it. Our view is that this approach is ineffective. In this episode we share a myriad of perspectives, causes, and solutions to support the couple to effectively navigate when one partner is experiencing symptoms of depression. In this episode, we frame low grade depression as something that is a normal part of being human. We illustrate contributing factors that can affect a sense of fulfillment and joy, including the gut-brain connection, unhealthy habits, mis-alignment with values, and toxic environments. We share several tools we've used to deal with depression together as a couple, including Dr. Will's advice from 20+ years of working with patients who have found relief in symptoms of depression. Our invitation for you this week is to be gentle yet honest with yourself — and your partner — so that you are able to work as a team and address darker periods and find possibility, together. And be sure to head back to episodes 44–46, where we share how and why we sought out external support. Welcome Back EveryoneWe're taking a break from our summer finance series this week to cover an equally important topic—the proliferation of bias in the media.  Our guest today is Isaac Saul, the creator of Tangle, a popular daily newsletter and podcast that seeks to provide independent, non-partisan coverage of American politics.  Over the last several years, Isaac has built up an impressive following of over 65,000 daily readers and has become one of the most important voices for media reform in the world. I wanted to have Isaac on the show because I think he's really on to something with Tangle and believe what he's doing is pivotal for the revitalization of our American Democracy.  The 4th Estate, a necessary component of any democracy, almost didn't survive the arrival of the Internet and Social Media.  I say “almost” because people like Isaac are proving that there's still genuine demand out there for rational, civil political engagement.  While the Internet may have broken the business model of the news and introduced scary threats like the echo chamber effect, clickbait, and fake news, a new frontier has emerged and creators like Isaac are paving the way.   In this engaging discussion, we cover The Ins and Outs of the Tangle NewsletterThe inspiring origin story behind itHow Isaac goes about the not so easy task of trying to develop an unbiased perspectiveThe fascinating, unexpected feedback Isaac gets from Tangle readersMuch, much moreAs always, thanks for tuning in and Hope you all enjoy. You can follow @NickHalaris on Instagram and Twitter for all the Nick Halaris Show Updates.  To receive Nick's weekly Profit+ Newsletter subscribe at subscribe.nickhalaris.com
