Larry Meregillano has been performing on the trumpet professionally since he was 15 years old.In that time, he has performed all over the world, performing in the background, in the foreground, and everywhere in between. As you can imagine, he needed to develop a great deal of endurance in order to meet the demands of his profession, playing lead in the Disneyland Band, leading cruise ship bands, and much more. His experience and knowledge led to him creating the The Compression Training System (CTS), a tool that is taking the brass world by storm, and changing the way thousands of players approach their craft and improving their range and endurance.I wanted to get Larry on the show to discuss the CTS, its founding origins, how it works, how it benefits any type of player. And while this might sound like an infomercial, I humbly suggest the info shared in this episode favors the "info" more than the "mercial".Enjoy the episode! What you'll hear in this episode:-Larry shares some of his travel and performing adventures!...01:45-Why major stars wear a "mask" when among the public vs. their private selves...04:15-The trumpet has somehow managed to remain relevant in pop culture over time...06:15-The greats don't need to mimic or compare themselves to other great players...09:45-Fear of success, and why we're terrified of creating something truly unique...11:55-The basic science behind the The Compression Training System (CTS)...16:45-Compression described as it relates to playing trumpet...20:30-What's going on inside the mouth is the "missing link" when it comes to trumpet pedagogy...26:40-How the CTS enables trumpeters to utilize "progressive overload training" as incorporated by professional weight lifters...31:00-How the CTS works in improving ranger, power and endurance...36:20-Plus whatever your discerning ears deem worthy of your time and interest...Episode sponsor:Odd-Meter Technical Exercises by Michael Hengst: Original exercises and adaptations of your favorite exercises, all in 5/8 and 7/8 time.Resources mentioned:The Compression Training System (CTS)About the Guest:Larry Meregillano is a Eclipse artist/clinician. Once the market opened on Monday, the stock has risen 9%. Bob Chapek has left the company and Bob Iger is expected to stay for just 2 years while he works to set someone else up to take over the company. – https://thewaltdisneycompany.com/the-walt-disney-company-board-of-directors-appoints-robert-a-iger-as-chief-executive-officer/ and https://variety.com/2022/biz/news/bob-iger-restructuring-disney-kareem-daniel-exit-1235439263/ We have a date for the opening of Mickey's ToonTown! The full land will open on March 8th — a little over a month after Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway is scheduled to open on January 27th. As a recap, we can expect to see an update to Goofy's House with an interactive playground for kids; a new spot for Donald's Boat playground equipment and video portholes; A re-themed Gadget's Go-Coaster focusing on Chip and Dale; And the return of Mickey and Minne's Houses, Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin in addition to dining options at Café Daisy and Good Boy! Grocers. – https://twitter.com/DisneyParks/status/1593620677612998656 We heard this announcement this past Friday, as the park celebrated Mickey & Minnie's 94th Birthday with special buttons handed out at the main entrances and a birthday cavalcade downtown Main Street. The parade featured the Dapper Dans led sing alongs from the Omnibus, the Disneyland Band playing “Happy Birthday” with a bunch of characters, the Mickey and Minnie as the guests of honor before the cavalcade ends with a giant birthday cake for the pair. – https://www.micechat.com/340104-disneyland-news-return-of-the-king-cursed-keys/ Indy is back open after its 3-day refurb, but it's not what we were hoping. MiceChat says many of its major effects are still not working and is in desperate need of a rumored major overhaul. Meanwhile, in DCA Monsters Inc.: Mike and Sulley to the Rescue! opened up over the weekend with updated black light effects, fixed projection effects and some new safety features. The outside also got a fresh coat of paint. – https://www.micechat.com/340104-disneyland-news-return-of-the-king-cursed-keys/ Magic Keys were back on sale at Disneyland for a brief time this week. All keys except the Enchant level were open for new sales. Not long after, the Believe key was sold out and the others followed later. Magic Key sales are closed for now. Disney utilized the online queue for new sales like they have done in the past. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/11/17/disney-has-paused-select-magic-key-pass-sales/ Disneyland is adapting Disney World's latest cancelation policy for dining reservations. That means reservations must be canceled at least 2 hours prior to avoid a $10 per person cancelation fee. DisneyFoodBlog reports Disney saying this does not apply to Downtown Disney District restaurants, the World of Color Dessert Party, the Princess Breakfast Adventure at Napa Rose, and Tomorrowland Skyline Terrace. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/11/17/update-made-to-dining-reservation-cancelation-policy-for-disneyland/ We are not even past Thanksgiving in the United States, but Disney is already thinking of the Lunar New Year and the California Food and Wine Festival. In 2023, Lunar New Year is starting on January 20th and running through February 15th. For 2023, it is the Year of the Rabit for the Chinese New Year, which symbolizes luck, but the Vietnamese New Year is the Year of the Cat. Two new Lunar New Year marketplaces arrive this year; Bamboo Blessings and Wrapped with Love. The Food and Wine Festival will run from March 3rd through April 25th. With the Food and Wine festival, Soarin' Over California will return once again. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2022/11/lunar-new-year-celebration-and-disney-california-adventure-food-&-wine-festival-return-in-2023-to-disney-california-adventure-park/ A week after the rest of the resort, the holidays arrived at Downtown Disney and the resort hotels. Trees, nutcrackers, snowmen and more line the streets of the shopping district. Inside the hotels you'll find the annual staples — the Gingerbread house and giant tree in the Grand Californian Lobby, Mid-Century Modern decor adorns the Disneyland Hotel. Though MiceChat is reporting a rumor that this style of holiday decorations will go away next year. – https://www.micechat.com/340104-disneyland-news-return-of-the-king-cursed-keys/ On November 18th, the Mandalorian and Grogu landed in Star Wars Galaxy's Edge in Disneyland. The duo greeted guests and even interacted with Boba Fett in the land. They should be out and greeting guests every 30 minutes. No news on how long they will be visiting Batuu, so if you are interested in meeting them, get to the parks soon. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/11/18/photos-and-video-we-met-baby-yoda-in-disneyland/ This past week featured Life Day — the holiday celebration in the Star Wars Universe. You can get a taste of holiday-inspired dishes back in Galaxy's Edge. At Docking Bay 7, you can find Trandoshan-style Past with Braised Bantha — which is a braid beef over Cavatelli pasta with veggies, a zesty avocado sauce, and balsamic glaze. We've heard it's a bit spicy. Or there is a Yobshrmip Mix stew with Swamp Grains — another spicy dish featuring shrimp, sausage, veggies, and rice with a tomato curry sauce. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/11/20/we-have-one-word-to-describe-these-2-new-disney-snacks-spicy/ Guests who shop early and want to grab their merch on the way out of the park instead of carrying it will now find it at the Disneyland Merchant's Guild, located in the former Guided Tour building next to Disneyland's City Hall. – https://www.micechat.com/340104-disneyland-news-return-of-the-king-cursed-keys/ Discussion: Marceline, MO – https://www.downtownmarceline.org/tour/

News: Since June 15th and the drop of the blueprint for a safer economy restrictions in California, what has changed at Disneyland? A lot, but most of it is good news! Indoor queues have returned, mix that with the removal of social distancing, and attractions returning to full capacity and the parks feel delightfully empty. Dining location capacity has also returned to at or near capacity, making finding a place to sit and eat a lot easier. Mobile order availability has been reduced, allowing more standby ordering to happen, easing the strain to get food. Stores have also returned to full capacity, removing the need for one way entrance and exits of retail locations, making access much easier. – https://www.micechat.com/294489-disneyland-update-the-magic-of-entertainment-returns/ Disneyland is a magical place, and part of what makes it so magical is the entertainment around the resort. This week, a couple of those entertainment options returned. The Disneyland Band is marching down Main Street, and the Citizens of Buena Vista Street are performing on a stage in front of the Carthay Circle Fountain. No word yet on when the rest of the entertainment, like the Dapper Dans will return. – https://www.micechat.com/294489-disneyland-update-the-magic-of-entertainment-returns/ For guests that have been waiting for over a year to trade their pins, the wait is finally over! Pin trading has returned to most locations in the form of the pin boards. Cast member lanyard trades have not returned at this time, but is expected to return in the not too distant future. – https://www.micechat.com/294489-disneyland-update-the-magic-of-entertainment-returns/ Guests visiting Disney California Adventure will have a much easier time accessing the new Avengers Campus. This week, the line to access the new area has dropped from 5+ hours all day, to a line in the morning at opening, and being non-existent by as early as 11am everyday. – https://www.micechat.com/294489-disneyland-update-the-magic-of-entertainment-returns/ Fans of the new Disney+ original Loki are in for a treat at Avengers Campus! Since the premiere, each week when Loki appears in Avengers Campus, his outfit reflects the one he wears in the show from that week. So far, he has appeared as standard Loki in his Asgardian outfit, then his jumpsuit from episode 1, and then in his jacket from the Time Variance Authority. We expect to see more changes as the character changes in the show. – https://www.micechat.com/294489-disneyland-update-the-magic-of-entertainment-returns/ It appears that the virtual queue test for Indy has been discontinued with the reopening of indoor queues and social distancing relaxation. The attraction, just like other attractions in the park, has returned to full capacity making the line move quickly for standby guests. – https://www.micechat.com/294489-disneyland-update-the-magic-of-entertainment-returns/ This September, Gay Days is returning to the resort. From September 17th through the 19th, the unofficial event will bring a sea of red t-short wearing members and ally's of the LGBTQ++ community. Previously, the event took place the first weekend in October. A schedule hasn't been announced yet, but will be posted at the link in our show notes. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/06/18/gay-days-is-coming-back-to-disneyland-this-year/ and https://www.gaydaysanaheim.com/GDA/ The limited presentation of Rise of the Resistance that has been utilized since Disneyland reopened has been discontinued and the original flow has returned. Guests progressing through the attraction previously skipped the pre-show to keep under the limitations from the state to keep indoor attractions under 15 minutes. With the limitation dropped, the full pre-show is back. – https://www.micechat.com/294489-disneyland-update-the-magic-of-entertainment-returns/ The force is strong with coffee lovers in Star Wars Galaxys Edge. News: With the blueprint for a safer economy measures being stopped by the State of California, Disneyland is free to loosen some restrictions. As of Tuesday, June 15th, masks and social distancing are no longer required in the theme parks. Distancing markers have begun to be removed from the resort and indoor queues are now open for guests to wait inside, instead of outside like was previously required. – https://disneyland.disney.go.com/travel-information/ With the addition of more guests from out of state, more dining locations are reopening. As we reported on last week, Oga's Cantina, Docking Bay 7, Alien Pizza Planet, Rancho del Zocalo, Wine Country Trattoria, and Bayside brews are all returning. In addition to these, some quick service and outdoor vending locations are returning. Maurice's Treats, Jack Jack Cookie Num Nums, Fantasyland Food Cart, and Edelweiss Snacks on June 24th. July 1st, Hungry Bear, Lucky Fortune Cookery, Corn Dog Castle, Harbor Galley, Schmoozies, and Morimer's Market will be open. July 2nd, the Tangoroa Terrace and Trader Sam's reopen at the Disneyland Hotel. Finally, on July 8th, the Refreshment Corner and Clarabelle's Hand Scooped Ice Cream return. – https://www.micechat.com/294078-disneyland-update-the-rush-to-fully-reopen/ Some of the live entertainment has been spotted rehearsing for their return this Friday, June 18. The Disneyland Band has been practicing after park hours, according to Disneyland Resort President Ken Potrock's Instagram account. No word on other acts, but it seems like only a matter of time at this point. – https://www.micechat.com/294078-disneyland-update-the-rush-to-fully-reopen/ Starting July 4th, Disneyland will resume nightly fireworks! Mickey's Mix Magic will run nightly through the summer for all to enjoy. Over at Walt Disney World, Happily Ever After will resume on July 1st at Magic Kingdom, and EPCOT Forever will return to Epcot, also on July 1st. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/06/fireworks-spectaculars-are-back-at-disney-parks-this-summer/ Four small attractions also reopened on June 15th. The Sleeping Beauty Castle Walk-through, the Animation Academy, the Golden Zephyr, and Sorcerer's Workshop have all returned to guests. These attractions were able to return with the social distancing mandate expiring for California, allowing the tighter spaces and indoor areas to accommodate enough guests, allowing them to open. – https://www.micechat.com/294078-disneyland-update-the-rush-to-fully-reopen/ Some changes have come to Avengers Campus since it opened at the resort just over a week ago. Showtimes for the Avengers character encounters have been added to the Disneyland mobile app, in order to allow guests to plan ahead and not wait in the land for hours waiting for the encounters to happen. – https://www.micechat.com/294016-simple-avengers-campus-fixes-on-the-way-showtimes-publish-today/ Some dining changes have come to Avengers Campus. Shawarma Palace has been removed from mobile order all together, more standby capacity was added to Pym Test Kitchen, and mobile orders can only be made inside the land. Previously, some guests could mobile order outside of the area, and then use the order to gain access, but this is no longer allowed. Having guests place orders while already in the area also allows for the mobile order windows to last a lot longer and not be completely full in the morning for the entire day. – https://www.micechat.com/294078-disneyland-update-the-rush-to-fully-reopen/ The Disney Food Blog tested out the WEB Slinger Power Band to see if it was worth the price if you wanted to use it on the attraction. Basically, having a power band will give your web slinging a power up and gain more points, but it doesn't really affect the enjoyment of the attraction, unless you want to get the high score. Guests wanting to be the top of the leader board will need to have one of these to score the highest points possible. Unless topping the leader board is worth $60 to you, then these aren't a must have item. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/06/11/does-60-really-make-a-difference-on-web-slingers-at-disneys-avengers-campus/ Starting on June 18th, the Toy Story Parking lot will be open for guests again. Busses will be running between the resort transportation plaza and the parking lot, which hopefully means that the Mickey and Friends tram will also be making a comeback soon! – https://www.micechat.com/294078-disneyland-update-the-rush-to-fully-reopen/ Some photo ops have come to Downtown Disney this week. One of the ops is from the Hulu original Love, Victor, the other is based on Spider-Man! – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/06/13/whats-new-at-disneyland-resort-avengers-campus-opening-and-a-new-color-trend/ Of course with summer on the way, there is a summer treat that has returned to the resort. The Watermelon Seasonal Apple has arrived at Trolley Treats in Disney California Adventure for $11.99. This variation on the classic features a Granny Smith apple with caramel, white chocolate and watermelon flavored coating, and marshmallow ears. There is a strong watermelon flavor, so if you are a fan of that, this is for you. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/06/10/review-a-disneyland-caramel-apple-has-a-fun-flavor-combo/ Beginning in January, 2022, students can enroll in a new set of workshops presented by Disney. What’s better than the Disneyland Band or the Dapper Dans? How about the Disneyland Band and the Dapper Dans at the same time!!!! YES, it’s true, and it happens every day at Disneyland! Be sure to check your Times Guide and look for the Disneyland Band and the Dapper Dans performance that starts at the same time (12:30 for this video). The Disneyland Band starts right in front of Sleeping Beauty’s Castle, and the band marching through the castle to form a performance line is a wonderful sight. They kick right off with a medley of Disney Classics, including A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes, performed only as the Disneyland Band can. The band is joined by Donald, Goofy, Pluto, Chip, Dale, Mickey and Minnie for the Most Magic March on Earth from the castle right down Main Street USA, led by Mickey of course. Who could that be halfway down Main Street USA? That’s the Dapper Dans in the middle of their 12:30 performance, but who can resist a parade? The Dapper Dans join right in marching the rest of the way to Town Square where the Disneyland Band, Dapper Dans, and Mickey and all his friends perform on the steps of the Main Street Train Station; indeed, “Welcome to our family time!” Thanks for watching and be sure to subscribe for more. #98: Rockin with the Disneyland Band The Disneyland Marching Band has been a staple of Disneyland’s Main Street USA since opening day in 1955.   Leading up to Disneyland’s 60th Anniversary in 2015, Disney set out to “Liven up the Band”, and “Reimagine” the Disneyland Band guest experience.  They increased the number of band members to 18 and increased the number of performances throughout the day.  Check your Times Guide.   Just before the 60th Anniversary celebration in 2015, Disneyland announced that the Disneyland Band would be premiering a new sound with new musical arrangements and themed performances along with a high-energy choreography, bringing a new level of entertainment to Disneyland guests. With all of the 60th Anniversary events, it was easy to miss that announcement.  It took me just about 2 years to catch the full impact!   And boy did I!  On a recent trip, I noticed the Disneyland Band marching from Tomorrowland through the hub toward It’s a Small World.   Naturally, I grabbed my camera and followed along, right behind the legendary Disneyland Band bass drum.   All I can say is, I was absolutely blown away by the performance.  Disney did indeed “Liven up the Band”.  With three unique sets, the band covered Pirates of the Caribbean, Tangled and Star Wars!  I had a front row seat with camera rolling; the perfect location, with It’s a Small World in the distance, the Disneyland Band turned the walkway into their stage.  The chorography was outstanding, with every member of the band giving it their all.  I only hope the video captures the sights and sounds of the Disneyland Band. Thanks for listening, thanks for watching and be sure to check out www.samsdisneydairy.com and www.thedisneynerdspodcast.com

But first, we go Behind the Mickey Bar, as Liana and I talk about the new Cars Land, the just opened Jolly Holiday Bakery, Castmember beards, Fastpass, and more. Next, a Mouse Lounge Special Feature:  The BBCs Russell Davis looks at how the archives have treated to the two faces of Walt Disney.  Uncle Walt, who brought laughter and pleasure to millions, and… the rather tough businessman and social engineer.  Enjoy the second of a five part series, Double Disney.   Then, from the Disney Archives:  Based on the Oscar winning cartoon, “Toot Whistle Plunk and Boom” comes a marvelous record narrated by the unmistakable Thurl Ravenscroft.  From the 1963 Disneyland Record DQ-1232, have a listen to “A Child’s Introduction to the Instruments of the Orchestra”.  Don’t let the title fool you; this record was lavishly produced.  It’s hard to believe this mini masterpiece landed in the kiddy records bin.   Then, from Vault Disney:  We focus on the music of two Silly Symphonies from the thirties.  The first is “Music Land” from 1935 and “The Woodland Café” from 1937.  Both are perfect examples of the use of music to further the narrative, and are just great fun to listen to.  I’ll provide a description of the of the plot for Music Land, so you can better follow along.   Each show we present a high definition ride-through from a Disney Park East or a Disney Park West.  Did you know that Disneyland boasts ten different live performance groups that play in all four corners of the park?  This episode, you’ll get to hear from every one of them!  You’ll hear, the Main Street Piano Player, The Dapper Dans,  Hook and Ladder Company, the Straw Hatters, Billy Hill and the Hillbillies, Farley the Fiddler, The Bootstrappers, The Jambalaya Jazz Band, The Royal Street Bachelors,  and The Pearly Band.  Plus, you’ll hear special performances recorded on Fat Tuesday of the New Orleans Jazz Band, The Bayou Bash featuring Princess Tiana, and the Disneyland Band performing it’s full noontime concert with the theme, “Sunday in the Park”.    Gary Chambers (805) 270-5785 The Mouse Lounge http://www.mouselounge.com Subscribe to our write a review about the Mouse Lounge Podcast: http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=180696323

For as long as America keeps alive the ideas of freedom and a better life, all men will want to be free and share our way of life. I thank God and America for the right to live and raise my family under the flag of tolerance, democracy and freedom."  The Mouse Lounge is a fan-based podcast and is not affiliated with the Walt Disney Company or its subsidiaries.  Non factual statements made by the Mouse Lounge hosts, Gary Chambers and his guests are their current opinions only and are subject to change without notice.  All copyrighted material used with permission or under the Fair Use Doctrine in Section 107 of the United States Copyright Act.  Although the information in this program is believed to be reliable, Mr. Chambers, and Mouselounge.com do not make any representations or warranties as to its accuracy or completeness, nor do they assess, verify or guarantee the suitability of information.

In this Episode one piece of audio runs for the whole episode (though I talk over it through the quiet parts) this recording of the Disneyland Bands Concert aboard the Mark Twain riverboat was taken on July 15, 2005. This is the last of the three sessions of the Disneyland band that I recorded that trip and also the closest to complete, though even here I didn't get audio of the band coming on stage, so I guess none of the DL Band Concerts I recorded is 100 percent complete, still, this would be the closest, as I'm sure the other sets are missing full songs that were played before I arrived on those occasions.  Also the return of the postcard segment, and some meet reports from some of the Disney events I've atended the past few months.
