Send us a textDiscover the untamed spirit of the Wild West as Mike King takes us on an exhilarating ride through the life of the infamous Doc Holliday. From his early days in Georgia as a dignified dentist to becoming a feared and notorious figure in the American frontier, Holliday's journey is anything but ordinary. Narrated by the talented Brad Smalley we explore a youthful incident that laid bare the racial tensions of the era and propelled him towards his fate in the sun-baked lands of Dallas, Texas, where he hoped the climate might mend his ailing health. With multiple sources at hand, we uncover the nuances of Holliday's character—a blend of southern charm and reckless abandon that left an indelible mark on history. The stakes rise as we recount the thrilling race day drama under a military post, where Holliday's threat for Sugarfoot to win or else, becomes the center of attention. The narrative then leads us to Holliday's return to Fort Griffin, where a contentious encounter at the gambling table between Holliday and Ed Bailey unfolds. The blurred lines between myth and reality add intrigue, as we question the authenticity of tales that have become legendary. The bond between Holliday and Big Nose Kate emerges as a testament to loyalty and survival amid the chaos, highlighted by her daring rescue of her lover, Doc Holliday from a lynch mob. It's Barrel & Flow week and you know what that means. That's right, our podcast daddies, Ed Bailey & Day Bracey join the show to catch up this weekend's Barrel & Flow Fest, the Drinking Partners podcast and their recently-completed second season of Ed & Day in the 'Burgh on Very Local Pittsburgh. In this live stream, Cjapi's James Curtis joins Ed Bailey to discuss the challenges of building a distributed global security team. Talent is hard to find, and companies are hiring from all over the world to build the best teams possible, but this trend has a price. Traditional management processes don't always transfer over to remote management — everything from building a culture to the basics around assigning, tracking, and measuring work needs adjustment.
This is a salvaged episode from eight years ago. Ed Bailey is no long sharing his wisdom in print, but luckily I captured a moment with a legendary dog man.
00h 00’00” Rawhide – Frankie Laine 00h 02’02” Presentación 00h 04’06” Cabecera 00h 04’41” 1946 DUELO AL SOL (Duel in the sun) 00h 04’41” Main title 00h 05’47” Duel in the sun – Larry Douglas 00h 08’50” Gotta get my somebody to love – Martha Tilton 00 h 11’48” Love eternal 00h 14’43” 1956 LA GRAN PRUEBA (Friendly persuasion) 00h 14’43” Main title, Little Jes & Samantha 00h 19’04” Carriage chase 00h 21’44” Love scene in the barn – Coax me a little – Thee I love 00h 27’08” 1956 GIGANTE (Giant) 00h 27’08” Main title & The hunt scene 00h 32’16” Love theme (There’s never been anyone else but you) 00h 34’00” Thoughts of Leslie 00h 36’04” 1957 DUELO DE TITANES (Gunfight at O.K. Join Cribl's Ed Bailey and Jackie McGuire as they discuss the harmful effects of data debt on observability and security teams. Data debt is a pervasive problem that increases costs and produces poor results across observability and security. Simply put, garbage in equals garbage out. Ed and Jackie will delve into what data debt is and how to solve it in the long term. They will explore the complex nature of observability and security data, which is highly volatile and requires a different approach from typical analytics use cases. To get the best results, data standards must be established with high-level buy-in from leadership. Additionally, teams must have access to a high-quality observability pipeline that allows them to manipulate data in real-time. It's also important to build a strong relationship with your GRC team, so you can track issues with standards and gain the right visibility in the enterprise. With the right strategies, data debt can be overcome, and Ed and Jackie will help you get started on the road to success.
In this live stream discussion, angel investor Ross Haleliuk joins Cribl's Ed Bailey to make a big announcement about his new fund to shape the future of the cybersecurity industry. In this live stream, Cribl's Ed Bailey and CDW's Brenden Morgenthaler discuss a foundational issue with many security programs — having the right data to detect issues and make fast decisions. Data drives every facet of security, so bad or incomplete data weakens your overall program. Watch the video or continue reading below to learn about these issues and the strategies we use to solve security's data problem. As the amount of data, tools, systems, and clouds continue to increase, the threat to enterprises' security posture has risen as well. It simply doesn't matter what kind of SIEM you have anymore — even if it's as good as Splunk or its alternatives. If you don't have the right data, you'll run into problems. The Problem with Dropping Data Sources Due to Budget Constraints Budgets can no longer keep up with the amount of data that needs to be processed, so organizations are forced to get by without collecting and analyzing everything they should. As a result, security teams are forced to turn off data sources that could provide them valuable insights into credible threats. One client that Brenden and the team at CDW worked with got a firsthand look at the effects this has during a pen test they performed. They tested some common detections and were surprised to find that their red team engineer was able to completely compromise the domain and gain full control — simply because they had turned off all audit events on Kerberos. Situations like this are much too common and are just the tip of the iceberg —which is why it's so critical to have visibility into all areas of your network. You also need someone who knows all the different attack vectors so they can help you set up your infrastructure to avoid them. Poorly Formatted but Crucial Data Sources Eat Up Licensing Costs Data sources like Powershell, Sysmon, and Windows DNS debug logs are generally more difficult to work with. In the past, you'd have to rely on the heavy forwarder on the Splunk side or a ton of manual fine-tuning of things on the source side to handle the flood of data coming in from all these different systems and formats. This is where a tool like Cribl Stream can help — you can turn on a data source, send it to Stream, and then route to null by default. Then you can pull out specific streams and send them to your other tools as necessary. Other data won't need to be processed but will need to be kept for regulatory compliance issues, so you can keep it offline in raw, unmodified form in a data lake or send it to an object storage like an S3 bucket for as long as you need. Then if you need to recall it to investigate a data breach, you can use the replay feature in Stream to ingest it back through to whatever source you want without having to use your license or processing power. You can also use Cribl Stream to take advantage of EDR data. We see a lot of companies make enormous investments in EDR tools that also produce very accurate data, especially around assets — but then they don't take that data and put it into their SIEM because it's just too expensive. With Stream, you can take the majority of that EDR data and route it to a data lake, and then get value from the other 10-15% by routing it to your SIEM in the exact format you need it. Data Volume Management Strategies to Get the Best Results for Security To get the most value out of your data for security, you need to know what regulatory compliance you have to meet — what type of logs do you have to retain, and for how long? It also helps to have a good understanding of all the tools you have, what systems are in place, and what the limits are on your ingestion licenses. From there, securing your perimeter is the best place to start. You want your authentication sources, MFA sources, and VPN set up first, and then you can start bringing in all your security tools. The Mitre Attack framework is incredibly helpful to figure out what vertical you're in and see the common threat actors or attacks right you might encounter so you can decide which sources and services you'll need visibility from. Having had a long career in IT, I became used to constraints and compromise — which is why I was caught off guard when I first saw Cribl Stream back before I joined the company. Not having to make concessions on which data to pull in, where I could send it, what format it was in, or what my vendor would support was unexpected, to say the least. This choice and control is giving security teams the ability to have faster detections and even better responses to cyber threats. Be sure to watch the full conversation between Ed and Brenden, and connect with us in our Cribl Slack community if you have any questions or want to continue the discussion!

Nigel and Nick are headed to the Barrel & Flow Fest Sept. 10 - 12, so they just had to have festival creators Day Bracey and Ed Bailey back on the pod. (Side note: if you're looking for someone to blame for the absurdity that is the Beers with Nigel podcast, you're welcome. The hosts of the Drinking Partners podcast and their festival are the sole reason Nigel grabbed Nick and uttered those fateful words: "I've got shit I want to say.") The duo even sent their guests some home grown KC craft beers, but apparently they broke some sacred Drinking Partners rules when they didn't send prior notice the beer was over 9% ABV. Oops. 13.5% is close, right? Act 47 discusses the upcoming festival and how it's not just about beer, but giving opportunities to minority brewers, artists and other underrepresented groups. There also may have been a discussion about getting Nick some security while in Pittsburgh. Sheesh, you can't take that other guy anywhere. Drinkers: Sap & Juice — Iowa Beer Project; Friendship Necklace # 1 — Diametric Brewing/Double Shift Brewing cola; & Coconut Porter — Windshift Brewing. Myster Beers: Stratoshphere — City Barrel Brewing & Graham Cracker Porter — Denver Beer Co.
Day Bracey wants to empower the Black community through the beer industry. This is a year-round goal and the podcaster, comedian, and festival organizer does that every day all day. But next week in Pittsburgh he is hosting the Barrel and Flow Festival and will be able to put the goal front and center. It's the continuation of the Fresh Fest, which he founded with business partner and podcast co-host Ed Bailey and rebranded for a new year after some issues with the name and a chance in another business relationship. There is a lot of talk about diversity in the craft beer space. But talk is just that. Action is what is needed. After countless brewery visits and conversations Day has a pretty good idea on what needs to be done to bring meaningful change to the space. On this episode of "Drink Beer, Think Beer" he'll share his thoughts on the subject and the industry and he also talks about how the festival is coming together how it aims to create a welcoming space – something that some other festivals don't always offer. This was recorded over zoom, and there were a few weak signal moments. Don't adjust your dial. The Frank Stallone Documentary - 'Stallone: Frank, That Is' Available in Canada on Youtube & Google Play https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UPTzODh-6k&has_verified=1 Grammy and Golden Globe nominated artist Frank Stallone is one of the most versatile actors, singers and musicians in the business. His explosive voice and his range from comedy to drama and rock to blues to big band, leaves audiences entertained and captivated. Frank has garnered three Platinum Albums, ten Gold Albums and five Gold Singles and has acted in over 60 films and TV shows including Walker Texas Ranger, multiple sitcoms and variety shows, Hudson Hawk, Staying Alive, Fred Claus, and Tombstone, in which he made a big impact as “Ed Bailey,” a dangerous gunslinger. One of his most memorable film roles was as “Eddie,” the bartender in Barfly, which was touted by critic Roger Ebert: “Barfly is a terrific film that features an outstanding performance by Frank Stallone…he's both captivating and terrifying at the same time.” Frank has written and published over 200 songs and, with his newest single in The Expendables 2 (Don't Want to Fight With Me), has written and recorded compositions for nine films, including Rocky I, II and III, Rambo II, Paradise Alley and Over the Top. But, it was Frank's nine songs that he wrote and recorded for the Saturday Night Fever Sequel Staying Alive that earned him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Sound Track and a Grammy nomination for Best Original Song with his single, Far From Over. That song became a massive number#1 hit around the world and stayed on the top charts for more than four months. At a young age, the Maryland-born, Philadelphia-raised native pursued his musical ambitions, forming a series of bands, and finally turned professional at the tender age of 15 (“I had to lie about my age,” admits Frank). His group, Valentine, included lead guitarist John Oates (Hall and Oates) and was signed to RCA Records in 1975, when they recorded their first album. Frank made his on-screen singing debut, performing the self-penned acapella song, Take You Back in the opening scene of the film Rocky. “The only reason I got the part was that I was the only musician my brother, Sylvester, knew…and I worked cheap.” Frank has recorded nine solo albums receiving praise from legends Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Sammy Cahn. His rock-influenced Full Circle, “which I feel is my best” was followed by his American songbook albums, In Love in Vain, with Sammy Nestico, Stallone on Stallone by Request, a compilation of Frank's film soundtrack tunes, and Songs from the Saddle, showing Frank's more acoustic side. He's a big fan favorite in Australia and he performs in concert halls, theaters and clubs all around the world, gaining critical acclaim wherever he goes “he has the crowd enthralled.” (New York Daily News) Frank is a guitar, music, mafia and art aficionado, is one of the best boxing historians and collectors in the world and is an avid collector of guitars, guns and memorabilia. When he's not writing songs or filming a project, he can be found on a shooting range or at the gym but he's happiest with a guitar, beautiful women and good glass of vino. If you ask why he's never been married, he'll tell you “I guess I just forgot.”
Summer might just be the best time to drink great beer (well, it's in a four-way tie with fall, winter, and spring) and on this episode we're speaking with comedians Day Bracey and Ed Bailey, hosts of the Drinking Partners podcast and two of the driving forces behind Fresh Fest, the first black beer festival in America. They tell us about the (amazing) plans for a digital Fresh Fest this year, inclusivity in craft beer, and what they're drinking this summer. We're also joined by old friend Zach Mack (beer writer, certified cicerone, owner of ABC Beer co.) to talk about his bar reopening in NYC, and his picks for the best beers to drink this summer… as we all could really use a drink right now. SESSION SUMMARY: We've made some tremendous steps forward in our world. And, at the same time, there are still areas where we fall short. Unfortunately, we still live in a society where racism, sexism, and other epidemics plague our day to day lives and real humans battle through this hate in search of a more peaceful existence.Without question, the beer industry is a world that has seen a true lack of diversity as the popularity of this adult beverage, and culture, has boomed. Primarily, the beer industry consists of white males in the roles of sales, ownership, and production. But as time has gone on, women have joined the beer industry and made a tremendous impact on the growth and evolution and beer. Likewise, minorities have also become part of the revolution, forever proving the beer industry does not need to be dominated by one sex or one race to be relevant. In Pittsburgh, Mike Potter of Black Brew Culture - an online magazine covering diversity in the beer industry - Day Bracey, and Ed Bailey - comedians and co-hosts of the Drinking Partners Podcast - joined forces to celebrate diversity and bring a "fresh" perspective to the industry with the inaugural Fresh Fest Beer Fest in August of 2018. The event struck a chord not only with beer industry professionals, but enthusiasts, media, and other minority-owned businesses as well - making it a wild success that had everyone anticipating what this trio would bring together next.In August of 2019, Fresh Fest is back for Round 2 and Day and Mike took some time out of their busy schedule to rap about this year's event on the Breaking Brews Podcast. In this episode, we learn about Day and Mike's journey through the craft beer landscape, how they, along with Ed, came up with Fresh Fest, and what they say to the person who calls Fresh Fest a "racist beer fest." In addition, Day, Mike, and Jason talk about existing oppression in today's society. The trio's vision for Fresh Fest was to combat those stigmas as much as possible, all while delivering an immersive experience that brings businesses from all walks of life together to celebrate the camaraderie the beer industry inspires. You can learn more about Fresh Fest, connect with social media platforms, and secure your tickets to what promises to be one of the best events of the year at freshfestbeerfest.com.To catch up on the Drinking Partners Podcast, click:Website | Facebook | Instagram | TwitterCheck out Black Brew Culture:Website | Facebook | Instagram | Twitter MUSIC CREDIT: All music in this episode of the Breaking Brews Podcast is courtesy of purple-planet.comEVENT ALERT: Grab your tickets to Hot Glass, Cold Beer, Pink Boots
For their 200th episode, the Drinking Partners bring in two extra-special guests, and, unsurprisingly, sip some extra-special drinks. A Drinking Partners favorite – Rick Sebak – returns to, according to Day, “stunt on me,” and legendary, award-winning Pittsburgh sports photographer Christopher Horner joins the party. And a party it is as the group opens the podcast by sampling a 19.9 % Black Tuesday beer that Day has aged for three years. Minutes into the interview, Rick remembers that he’s dealing with two comedians as Ed shares some NSFW hospital dreams before the interview transitions into how both Rick and Christopher capture and share Pittsburgh’s history. Of particular interest is when the men are asked to name their favorite Pittsburgh moment, and Rick remembers Fresh Fest fondly and flatteringly. For Mr. Horner, it’s the 2013 Wild Card game that the Pirates won at PNC Park. When Rick uncorks a bottle of Remy Martin cognac, the energy intensifies and the singing begins. There’s even a brief duet between Ed and Day and a consideration of the “boujee-fication of Ed Bailey. A celebratory, entertaining listen that offers the best of the Drinking Partners. To hear more from Rick Sebak, find him on Twitter @rickaroundhere or Facebook/Instagram as @ricksebak. For more from Christopher Horner, check him out on Instagram/Twitter as @hornerfoto1.
Welcome to Heels of Justice, these are the stories of women lawyers who are trailblazers in their field, and paved the way for the rest of us. Today, the Heels of Justice interview Sasha G. Rao, Chair of Maynard Cooper & Gale’s Intellectual Property Practice, in San Francisco. Click here for Sasha’s full bio. Key Takeaways [:45] Sarita welcome Sasha G. Rao to the Heels of Justice, and asks her to describe what her role entails, day to day. [2:04] Sasha delves into her background and history, from Bangalore to Lynchburg, Virginia for her college years. [5:56] What took Sasha to law school after so seriously considering engineering and science? And how was the experience? [7:40] Sarita asks Sasha if there is a difference between working in a southern firm as opposed to a Silicon Valley firm, in the IP field. [9:25] “Write your own ticket” Maynard Cooper’s intriguing opportunity. And the difference that opportunity has provided. [12:15] Sarita asks if Sasha can give a bit of a history and framework in regards to the state of the law surrounding drone technology or “flying taxis”. [18:25] The three categories that need to be reflected upon to make air taxis a reality. [24:01] Are there laws that already apply or is this still all in the works? Can the autonomous car laws be used in the air taxi framework? [27:36] So how far away are we to autonomous flying taxis? Much sooner than we all think… [28:30] On a different note, Sarita asks what Sasha’s experience in law was, from the perspective of a South-Asian woman. [33:16] What does Sasha think about law firms building and retaining diversity in their workforce? [33:59] Does Sasha agree with the idea that the odds are lower for a lawyer of diverse background to be retained by a client than that of say, a caucasian male attorney? [35:57] How does Sasha advocate for herself? [39:14] Sarita asks Sasha G. Rao if she has a personal mantra and thanks her for participating on the Heels of Justice podcast, and she signs off until next time. Rao’s personal stories (edited) “You know when you grew up in India, especially in Bangalore, it’s kind of expected that you’d be good at science and math, and studied a lot of science and math in high school. So when I came to Randolph-Macon, I naturally gravitated towards science and math, and my physics professor used to be amazed that I could do mathematics in my head. He would ask me integration problems and I would know the answer within seconds of his question.” “I have always been interested in aircraft, and I wanted to be a pilot as a kid but I could not because I had poor eyesight. So later on, I had always wanted to represent an aviation company and when the opportunity presented itself after I joined Maynard, I jumped on it! I started to look around for helpful information and I found there wasn’t much out there, so I started thinking about what one might need in order to make air taxis a reality... So imagine a world where instead of calling a car on your rideshare app, and going from your house to my house: Imagine a world where you could use a similar app to call an air taxi to land at a nearby vertiport and you could hop in it and it will fly to someplace near my house and you could just walk over!” “After I made partner at Fish & Neaves, we merged into Ropes & Grey, and I thought it was very important that I had business of my own. I thought that I could easily get that business, and for about a five year period I was simply unable to generate my own business and I was relying heavily on institutional clients. Well the firm was perfectly happy with me just working on institutional clients, so there was no pressure from Ropes & Grey to do anything different, but I personally thought that it was very important. So I spent a lot of time talking to new companies to see what they were looking for in a lawyer or a law firm. Well it led me to getting very good at rejection. So I can’t overstate it but: you have to be totally super humble because you’re gonna get a lot of rejection and I must’ve been rejected thousands of times.” “So I was working at Fish & Neaves, I was a first year associate in a mega competitor lawsuit with at least a billion dollars at stake for the companies, and I was the tenth lawyer on the case – meaning the lowest, most junior person on the team. The supreme court had just ruled on Markman v. Westview Instruments in 1996. And I remember saying to my teammates “Hey, this decision came out, I think we need to request the court to tell us what it intends to do with the claims in this case”. So basically, when it came time to argue the Markman hearing, we had a team meeting and the lead counsel on the case – who was the managing partner at Fish & Neaves at the time, Ed Bailey – said “Who should argue this?”, he just threw it out to the whole team, and I raised my hand and I said I think I should argue it. He asked me why I thought that, and I told him; because I had written the brief, and I knew the position well, and I knew it inside out. He was persuaded and he let me do it!” More about Sasha G. #112 Drinking Partners Podcast- Day Bracey and Ed Bailey Talk about Fresh Fest Some of my absolute favorite comedians and friends to talk to are back on my show. If you listened to the episode already, you probably heard me snorting from Ed Bailey and Day Bracey, hosts of The Drinking Partners Podcast. We are all Epicast family, so we have been frequent guests on each other's shows from time to time. What can I say, we like each other's company... and beer. Speaking of beer, these guys love to chat about the craft brewing industry. Trends, reviews, with comedy thrown in between. They are hosting a new concept, first in the nation to be exact called The Fresh Fest which is geared towards men of color in the beer industry. Let's face it, when craft brewing exploded, it was a white man's game. Now everyone is dipping in their toes, or full fledge cannonballing into the industry, and I fucking love it. Hell, I even make beer as a past time, and received mixed reviews when I first showed up to meetings. It is nice to know the diversity is happening, and that is what Ed and Day are bringing to the Burgh. Fresh Fest is pulling black brewers from across the country to represent here in the Burgh. Drinking Partners collaborated with Black Brew Culture to make this event happen, and it is sure to be an awesome time. Don't miss grabbing your tickets to the event on August 11th at Nova Place! Also, these cats just recorded some audio for the Smithsonian! What? Could NOT wait to talk to them about that, and they judged Viceland out in California. That is just too cool. You will also catch us bitching about technology in the modern world, Ed's fashion style, and a ton more we had to catch up on. We are also giving away a free ticket to Fresh Fest! Ways to enter- Tag 3 friends in the comments section of this post on Facebook Retweet on Twitter Winner will be pulled Next Sunday August 5th! "The Drinking Partners and Black Brew Culture are proud to present Fresh Fest 2018 on August 11, 2018 from 5-9 pm! Fellow Ohioan Ed Bailey and I dig into the genesis of his podcast Drinking Partners, produced by himself and co-host Day Bracey for the Epicast Network. Ed and Day are fresh off their featured spot on "Beerland" a beer-themed TV show on the Viceland Network shot and recorded right here at the Unplanned Comedy Warehouse. I got tons of great advice on hosting and producing high-quality live comedy show. Twice a month Ed and Day host their show at the Comtra Theatre and the Arcade Comedy Theater. We talk about the allures of Cleveland to his outlook on fatherhood and recovering from a life-threatening car accident. Ed is a common feature at comedy clubs and discusses his growing career, but as a fellow Ohioan, we must devote a little time talking all things Lebron. This conversation was a blast. Born and raised in Cleveland, OH, Ed Bailey’s family noticed his quick wit early on in life. While that wit sometimes landed him in trouble, it often was the source of great entertainment for those who bore witness. After high school, the University of Pittsburgh brought him to Pittsburgh, PA where he would make a name for himself as a comedian. During his brief career as a comedian, Ed has been able to capture the attention of some of the most recognizable figures in comedy such as Eddie Griffin and Hannibal Burress which is a testament to his ability to relate to anyone while on stage. His talents have also landed him a successful podcast that he co-hosts with comedian Day Bracey called Drinking Partners on the Epicast Network. A polygamist, simultaneously married to bacon and booze, Day Bracey once led a mostly private life, in fear of persecution from a conservative right winged christian society who wouldn’t understand his inability to choose between two loves. Armed with his sword of common sense and shield of free thought, Day Bracey now roams the Earth, striking down ignorance and BS wherever they may rear their ugly heads. A guerrilla against a well established army of stupidity, his methods of attack have been described as surprising and borderline radical, but precise and well planned. Also, he tells poop jokes. Aaron Kleiber and Ed bailey are back on this very special episode. Listen in while Eddie attempts to host a podcast in his hometown of Pittgburgh. This is the toughest crowd of 5 ever! Find out how it goes on this episode of TalkinS hit.
This episode features a time machine journey through some popular genres of the early 20th century. Jazz, swing, old-time music and ragtime - we travel back to hear some great music from way back when that is being played by hot bands today. The songs in this episode are "Cou Cou" by Mouce Manouche, "Americana" by Ed Bailey, "Five Miles from Town" by Luke Mercier and Rolling River, "WalMarts With DriveThrough" by One Monster After Another, and "Eli Green's Cake Walk" by The Ragtime Skedaddlers.
Dale & Scott chat up Ed Bailey of TOWN Danceboutique in this, the 14th episode. The guys also talk about the impending snow storm, the Super Bowl, and Scott offers to blow the 10th caller (sort of). Enjoy! (PS-There is no Episode 13.)
This is part of a live set i played last year following Ed Bailey's set for Madonna-Rama on 7/23/2006
