Quintero is the artistic director of Riverbed Theatre, a Taipei-based performance group that has been doing 1-on-1 experimental theatre shows. Quintero has been translating these 1-on-1 shows into 360 videos in a way that transcends the audience's expectations, in a way that is very much inspired by the performance work of Marilyn Arsem. I had a chance to catch up with Quintero to talk about his philosophy of storytelling, the influence of Arsem on his work, and the role of associative memories. All That Remains is a surreal embodied adventure through liminal moments that is open-ended enough to leave a lot of room for the audience to project a wide range of associative meaning, memories, or emotions onto it. It is the closest that I've fest to replication a one-on-one, immersive theatre encounter in 360 video. So it makes sense that director Craig Quintero is synthesizing over a decade's worth of insights from experimental theatre in Taiwan into this piece. I sat down with Quintero during Venice Immersive in order to get more context on his process of creating All That Remains, how he directs his actors, and the eschewing of any explicit meaning or narrative in favor of creating a sequence of visceral moments.

Very excited to welcome Tim Crouch, one of British Theatre's 'great innovators', with plays that have disturbed and challenged the passive theatrical experience to The Good Listening To 'Clearing'.A wonderfully rich and textured conversation indeed.  As Tim said:  "I talked with Chris about Tony Brightwell, my dad, my dog, randy airline captains, theatre, sailing little boats, my family - but mostly the dog..."Tim Crouch is a world renowned British experimental Theatre Maker, Actor Writer & Director.  He specialises in rejecting theatrical conventions - especially realism - and prefers a form whereby the audience is invited to help image and create the work. Tim is very warmly regarded and much respected as being an "Actor's Actor"."Theatre in its purest form is 'conceptual': No need for sets, costumes & props. All exists inside the audience's head".This is particularly relatable for me because of my own love of all things Comedy Improvisation and INSTANT WIT whereby an empty stage is brimming and charged with potential where 'anything is possible', with the audience all set to colourise the scene and fill in the gaps of all the silly proceedings with their imaginations. Tim's seminal 'centre piece' play from which he says all else has evolved was My Arm, the story of an 'empty gesture'.  It's about the confession of a man who lived for thirty years by the courage of his lack of conviction.  "At the age of 10, for want of anything more meaningful to do, I put my arm above my head and kept it there".Other work includes "An Oak Tree"; TV series "Don't Forget The Driver" which he co-wrote with actor Toby Jones (as Tim's homage to his home town of Bognor Regis) plus numerous world tours with a series of plays making Shakespeare more accessible through the eyes and perspective of single characters "I, Malvolio"; I, Banquo"; I, Caliban"; "I, Peaseblossom"Stephen Bottoms, Professor of Contemporary Theatre and Performance at the University of Manchester said of Tim Crouch:"I can think of no other contemporary playwright who has asked such a compelling set of Questions about theatrical form, narrative content and a spectators's engagement".‘One of the smartest artists making theatre in Britain now.‘Kulturflash on Tim Crouch

"If you exist, you belong."  Filmmaker Arielle Nobile ponders and explores the question of belonging, and has settled on this answer. Still, we continue to ask, 'Where do I belong?' 'Do I belong?' and 'How do we all belong, despite our differences?" We hope today's episode assures and inspires you that in our human family,   despite our missteps, all are welcome here. Our conversation covers revolutionary listening, perhaps the most powerful key to understanding and accepting each other. We can belong to ourselves and stand on our beliefs, and belong to each other, even when we strongly disagree with each other. We also talk about Arielle's recent move from the U.S. to Argentina, and what that means, her journey from in front of the camera to behind it, and how creatives can become bridges to unite disparate - and often, alienated -  groups of people.Arielle and I share our experiences in performing arts,  communication and optimism in humanity during challenging times. Thanks for listening.Arielle is a documentary film maker, who is usually the one asking all the questions. She is the CEO of Legacy Connections  , which was founded in 2005. Arielle's company produces documentary films for families to reflect on their history, truths, shared values and vision for the future.  She received her BFA in Experimental Theatre from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. She then studied in an MFA-style year-long directing program at Second City Theatre in Chicago. She taught improv and theatre at Second City and Piven Theatre to adults and children, which makes her uniquely skilled at helping all her subjects relax and be natural on camera. Arielle is the producer/director of the award-winning documentary series Belonging in the USA: Stories from our Neighbors. The first film in the trilogy, The Story of Michael D. McCarty was a 2019 official selection at the Pan African Film Festival, the largest Black film festival in the US. Check-out Arielle's related Belonging in the USA podcast. Arielle was named to The Independent Magazine's List of “10 Filmmakers to Watch” in 2018 for the Belonging in the USA documentary series. In this episode of Money Tales, we speak with Arielle Nobile. Love is a common thread in the money stories Arielle shares with us. She talks about how money has been used in her family to express love – sometimes with strings attached and sometimes without restriction. Arielle also talks about how she and her husband, both of whom are artists dealing with money stigmas of that profession, have deeply explored their relationship with money in the context of their loving relationship with each other. Arielle is a documentary film maker, who is usually the one asking all the questions. She is the CEO of Legacy Connections  , which was founded in 2005. Arielle's company produces documentary films for High Net Worth families to reflect on their history, truths, shared values and vision for the future. Her clients tend to be interested in both their family history and the impact that it has on their lives and future generations. While most of the clients Arielle works with are connected to a family business, she has helped entrepreneurs, financial advisors, doctors, and more connect with the invaluable stories that make up the true legacy of a family beyond their financial wealth. Arielle received her BFA in Experimental Theatre from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. In 2012, she won a Hugo Television award for her 6-part public television series, Belonging in Boulder: Unexpected Stories from Your Neighbors. See all episodes >

We go to Tokyo, where artists are creating theatre that interacts with the human body. At the experimental festival, Theater Commons Tokyo ‘21, the audience is centre stage and immersed in the action, even during a pandemic. At Aya Momose's Performing Acupuncture, needles turn the body into a stage. By combining art and therapy, she creates sensations which make us think about our body and relationships to one another. Using VR headsets, Meiro Koizumi takes us into the nightmares of Tokyo's marginalised migrant workers. In this unsettling virtual space, we are transported into their pandemic experiences. And as the world adjusts to coronavirus, Akira Takayama and Port B use radio to transmit voices from Fukushima into the masked crowds of Tokyo streets. We are reminded of frightening contamination and radioactivity. A decade since the earthquake, and a year since the pandemic's onset, both these stories are still unfolding.
