Many times Christians give God's glory to the devil by the words they speak. Even before God can show up and take his glory, they give the devil victory through the things they say. Breaking Free: Sex, Love, and Addiction: A Real Talk on Healing and Hope (Episode 157) Why do people become addicted to sex and love? Is it really just about physical desire, or is there something deeper? In this powerful episode, we speak with therapist Mike Vaughn, a leading expert on sex addiction recovery, to uncover the underlying issues behind these struggles. We discuss how trauma plays a major role in all forms of addiction, why shame keeps people silent, and how the world's distortion of sex has led to unhealthy cycles of addiction. We also explore the deep emotional and relational wounds that often drive people toward sex and love addiction as a way to self-soothe or seek connection. Additionally, we address an important but often overlooked reality: women struggle with sexual addiction, too, yet many feel too ashamed to seek help. But there is hope. Recovery is possible, and healing begins with truth, grace, and a biblical understanding of sex as a gift from God. Whether you're battling addiction, supporting a loved one, or simply curious about the topic, this episode offers real talk, biblical wisdom, and practical steps toward freedom.

298 Finding Hope While Grieving at Christmas: Practical Tips for Navigating the Holidays with Hope

Your Hope-Filled Perspective with Dr. Michelle Bengtson podcast

Episode Summary:  For many, the holiday season is synonymous with joy, family, and celebration. But for others, it brings a heavy reminder of loss and sorrow. Grief can take many forms—the loss of a loved one, a relationship that ended, or even a dream that was never realized. Today, we will navigate this journey together and explore how, even in the midst of grief, we can find glimpses of hope. You are not alone in this, and we'll spend time talking about practical strategies, share stories, and dig into Scripture to see what God says about our pain. Quotables from the episode: I want to start by acknowledging your grief. During the Christmas season, there's often a societal expectation to be cheerful and merry, but if you're dealing with loss, that expectation can feel impossible to meet. Maybe it's the first Christmas without a loved one, or perhaps the memories from past years are bittersweet. Your pain is real, and it's valid. Remember that Jesus was familiar with grief. The shortest verse in the Bible, ‘Jesus wept' (John 11:35), shows us that even the Savior of the world mourned with those He loved. He is not indifferent to your sorrow. The Psalms are filled with the raw, honest emotions of those who suffered, reminding us that we can bring our pain to God, and He meets us there. Grief is not linear, and it doesn't follow a predictable timeline. It's normal for grief to feel sharper around the holidays. Instead of suppressing your emotions or feeling like you need to ‘move on,' give yourself the space to grieve. Remember that Jesus invites us to come to Him with our burdens. Rest doesn't mean the absence of grief, but the presence of God in the midst of it. Traditions can be both comforting and painful. If certain traditions feel like too much to handle, give yourself permission to simplify. This might be the year you skip decorating the tree or decide not to host a large gathering. Consider creating a new tradition that honors your loss while bringing some comfort. Perhaps lighting a candle at the dinner table, donating in your loved one's name, or hanging a special ornament in their memory. Grief and joy can coexist. Even in the midst of sorrow, there can be moments of beauty and joy—if we're open to seeing them. This could be as simple as enjoying a favorite Christmas song, taking a walk in nature, or sitting quietly with a warm drink. Grief can feel incredibly isolating, especially during a season that emphasizes togetherness. It's important to remember that you don't have to walk this journey alone. Christmas, at its core, is about the hope of Jesus. It's easy to get caught up in the decorations, presents, and festivities, but the real meaning of Christmas is that Jesus came to be with us—God with us, Immanuel. He came into a broken world to bring light in the darkness. When grief feels overwhelming, return to this truth: that Jesus came to bind up the brokenhearted and bring hope to the hopeless. Scripture References: John 11:35 ‘Jesus wept.' Matthew 11:28 says, “‘Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.'” Zephaniah 3:17 says, ‘The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.' Galatians 6:2 reminds us to ‘Carry each other's burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ.' Sometimes, we need others to help carry the weight of our grief.” Isaiah 9:2 says, ‘The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.' Psalm 34:18 - ‘The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.' Revelation 21:4 - ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.' Matthew 5:4 - ‘Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.'     Recommended Resources:    How Do You Overcome Grief after the Death of a Child? – Episode 273 Find Strength in Sorrow: 15 Essential Tips to Survive Grief Healing from Grief: Tips for Coping with Grief and Loss How To Recover from Grief and Embrace Life – Episode 230 How To Navigate Grief and Loss How To Deal with Grief and Maintain our Hope – Episode 153 How To Find Hope in the Midst of Grief – Episode 70 Grief at Christmas: 10 Ways to Help Help for the Grief-Stricken: 3 Anchors that Held Me in Grief 10 Things Grieving Parents Need and Don't Need Grieving with Hope After the Loss of a Loved One Hope in Widowhood: How to Help a Grieving Widow – Episode 8 How To Help a Grieving Friend Hope for the Grieving Parent: How to Help a Grieving Friend – Episode 3 Sacred Scars: Resting in God's Promise That Your Past Is Not Wasted by Dr. Michelle Bengtson  The Hem of His Garment: Reaching Out to God When Pain Overwhelms by Dr. Michelle Bengtson YouVersion 5-Day Devotional Reaching Out To God When Pain Overwhelms   Today is Going to be a Good Day: 90 Promises to Start Your Day Off Right by Dr. Michelle Bengtson, winner of the AWSA 2023 Inspirational Gift Book of the Year Award, the Christian Literary Awards Reader's Choice Award in four categories, and the Christian Literary Awards Henri Award for Devotionals YouVersion 7-Day Devotional, Today is Going to be a Good Day YouVersion 7-Day Devotional, Today is Going to be Another Good Day Breaking Anxiety's Grip: How to Reclaim the Peace God Promises by Dr. Michelle Bengtson Breaking Anxiety's Grip Free Study Guide Free 7-Day YouVersion Bible Reading Plan for Breaking Anxiety's Grip Hope Prevails: Insights from a Doctor's Personal Journey Through Depression by Dr. Michelle Bengtson, winner of the Christian Literary Award Reader's Choice Award Hope Prevails Bible Study by Dr. Michelle Bengtson, winner of the Christian Literary Award Reader's Choice Award Trusting God Through Cancer 1 Trusting God Through Cancer 2 Revive & Thrive Women's Conference Subdue Stress and Anxiety: Fifteen Experts Offer Comprehensive Tools in Ten Minutes a Day. Justin and J.L. Gerhardt are on the podcast today, and you will love hearing from them! There is an epic retelling of their meeting and falling in love complete with 90's Hearthrob meet cute and all. More than that, Justin and J.L. share about their journey of God leading them both into ministry with words, calling their family to travel the world, and unleashing their creativity and courage to press into new ways to encounter God and His Word. This journey has given birth to various creative outlets for the Gerhardt family, but the one we talk about the most in this episode is Justin's incredible podcast “Holy Ghost Stories.” “Holy Ghost Stories” is a unique podcast that is more like an immersive narrated experience that takes stories from the Old Testament, unpacks them, and breathes life into the grit and shadow as well as the rapture and delight of God encountering His people. Justin's heart for this podcast is to remind us that we have an inheritance of stories in scripture that we share in an immersive, but often adolescent way to children, to try and captivate them and introduce them to God. And then they grow up. And as Justin says “We stop telling the stories and stop teaching the stories. And a story taught is different than a story told.” There is absolutely fruit to be found in teaching! However, grown-ups can miss out on what these stories have always had for us when we face real suffering, real rejoicing, and everything in between unless we revisit what they really were: real events that happened with real people with a very real God. Y'all hanging out with the Gerhardts is such a delight, and I can't wait for you to get to know them a little better. If you loved this episode, or love Holy Ghost Stories you need to attend a live experience! And for my local friends, there is one coming up in Nashville in December! I really believe you will see the Old Testament in a more alive and engaging way, and it will help you prepare your heart for the coming of Christmas. I hope I see you there. This is a Story of Hope Episode.  These episodes are meant to share the real-life journeys of other women who are walking out the loss of their loved one.  The movies we see on TV do a real good job of highlighting before to after but the truth of how things turn out lies in the middle.  I'm so thankful for the women who are willing to share their stories because their losses may be more similar to yours than mine and a word from them will give you a revelation that could change your perspective.   The daily grind, the endless days of tears, the fear of never getting better – those battles are won in the middle and those battles are what we rarely see.  Media, be it social or other gives us unrealistic pictures of what is happening in real life, so we compare our situation to that and end up feeling worse.    In this episode, Jane concludes her story of losing her husband Dan.  He survived and was healing from a double lung transplant which is a miracle in itself but then died in an unexpected way.   She also shares the many ways God's presences was made known in their journey and the hope that ONLY God can give now as she grieves his death.   WORD of the Week  Psalm 139:16. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.  Song of the Week Toby Mac, Marlee - Everything About You. https://youtu.be/VKTCWAVABjY   Connect with Me Learn More -“What to Do After the Loss of a Loved One” Workshop Schedule Individual Online Grief Coaching Join The Grief Group for Christian Women on Facebook Read about Monica's entire Journey, Dying to Be Healed - Book - Grief2GreatDay   Visit my Church –Opendoor Church | Home GriefShare - Grief Recovery Support Groups - GriefShare

What do yellow irises, a winter planter and a $10 bill have in common? They are all parts of amazing stories in today's podcast. The holidays are an especially difficult time to be grieving. It seems that everyone around you is happy. Their smiling faces often make our pain feel even more raw. Happiness seems so distant. Two years ago, shortly after starting the podcast, as Christmas arrived, I felt like I needed to do something different for a Christmas episode. It needed to be special and it needed to be uplifting. I settled on doing an episode called "Messages of Hope" (Episode 17). I was attending a Christmas party for bereaved women and I took time to hear a few inspiring little stories as well as read emails of others I had received. It was so moving and inspirational to me that last year, I decided to do something similar (Episode 67: Messages from Heaven). The stories in these episodes did more for me than give me a little hope for the holidays. They helped give me hope for life, hope that our children, although gone from this earth, are still ok and that God can give us little signs from beyond to show us this is true. Although many episodes of my podcast still give me tears of sadness, these stories only make my heart feel joyful. This year once again, I wanted to help others feel happiness during this otherwise difficult time. Gwen and I recorded this year's episode as a Livestream which can be seen on Facebook or my YouTube channel. I felt lighter after recording it, more able to face the difficulties of the season. I had a tiny bit of peace in my soul. I guarantee that you too, will never look at yellow irises, winter planters, or even $10 bills in quite the same way again.

I surrender by Bro.Sam Melbourne. ( There is always Hope Episode). Lets hear from this episode three benefits of surrendering.Matthew16:27 “For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? God always has and always will look for men and women who say to Him, ‘I trust you so much, I'm all in. I want your way not mine. I am willing to live by faith!' Chip Ingram The greatness of a man's power is the measure of his surrender. Quote by William Booth. Thanks for listening. God Bless

Restore our Earth through Hope EPISODE 1 - THEIABy Genevieve DuttonWelcome to our month-long 2021 PLANET PROJECT SERIES. On the 22nd of April 2020,  During the hardest lockdown, over 300 podcasters, artists and writers joined hands virtually and created one piece of digital work each, in a united effort to recreate impact and influence of the 1989 Baltic Chain.  We called the event the PLANET PROJECT. The impact of the project was so great and the work created so powerful, that I wanted to recreate the hope and sense of community we all felt on that day, by narrating some of the written pieces on the podcast this year.During our DAILY PODCAST SERIES IN APRIL, you can enjoy listening to one artist’s thoughts about the Earth – our Planet. Some of the pieces are narrated by me, and some by the artist themselves. At the end of each piece you will hear the artist’s name. You will be able to find each artist’s website and social media handles underneath each episode, on this page. I hope you enjoy this series.Support the show (https://ko-fi.com/alexcuncev)
