Get ready to giggle and make bad jokes. Uranus is back in the news. In 1986, Voyager 2 flew by the distant ice giant and made a strange discovery—the planet's magnetic field was weird. It's not just weird; it's unlike every other planet in the solar system. For nearly 40 years, scientists have tried to understand why. To solve the mystery, researchers delved into the data collected by Voyager 2 and found a "cosmic coincidence". The solar wind was unusually strong just prior to the flyby, causing the strange observations. This is good news for Uranus's moons, which were thought to be inactive as a result of the Voyager 2 findings. Join planetary scientist Beth Johnson and space plasma physicist Jamie Jasinski from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory as they discuss the initial observations, how the data was reevaluated, and what this all means for future missions to Uranus. Naked Eye Comets? October May Yield a Bounty

Comets are small objects in our solar system made of ice and dust. As they get closer to the Sun in their orbits, the ices turn into gas and give off a glow that can be seen in telescopes. With luck, that glow brightens to the point where a comet can be seen with the unaided eye. Some, like Halley's Comet, return on a regular schedule. Others are more one and done, breaking apart as they near the Sun or getting a gravity assist to leave our solar system. And every year, astronomers hope for the "comet of the century" -- a rare but visible comet that provides a show with a glorious coma and tail. This October, the observing community hopes that not just one but TWO recently discovered comets will put on that show. This week, Beth Johnson is joined by Dr. Ariel Graykowski, the Cometary Activity Lead for the SETI Institute and Unistellar citizen science project, to chat about the search for comets and the hope that either Comet C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS or C/2024 S1 (ATLAS) will soon be visible to the unaided eye. Now, a team of Italian scientists has found evidence for two more eruptions during Magellan's observations. Published in Nature Astronomy, this new research could help us understand why Venus took a different path in planetary evolution and provides some follow-up questions for the upcoming VERITAS mission. This is a recording of the Art Workshop as presented on Youtube. This episode is referring to specific imagery and thus is not readily beneficial to listen to for a podcast. You can still listen to it for the affirmations and the first 45 minutes of the workshop. Welcome To The Art Magic Workshop. Over the last two years I have undegone a huge journey inextricably linked between spirituality and art. One day after a quantum jump I awoke as an artist, with different memories and desires. I felt an overwhelming urge to create in any way i could. As I learned to paint with my wife I began to feel the presence of the creator, joining us in our creations. After much research and experimentation I was inspired to try Art Magic, after spending long hours mixing paint I found I could charge the paint with my light and put intentions into it.  As I did amazing things began to happen with these painting. I coded real intentions into this art and it began to have an amplifying magical effect unlike anything I had ever experience. Soon I was giving this art to my friends as a means to help change their reality. One to help a friend find love and another for a friend struggling to get a job. You can do all of this and more. In this workshop I will discussThe history of art as magicThe power and history of sigils and hypersigils. How to create sigils using artMy art journeyDifferent painting mediumsUsing Grabovoi and quantum healing codes, what they are, how they work, and how to learn more about them.Flow painting do's and dont'sFinally I will share the different art sigils, giving you access to the concentrated energies I created using this process. You can create your own art magic. My goal is to show you how to do this to empower your manifestations to help you find wealth, health, love, and to ascend to higher levels of consciousness through these images. Art can be used as a powerful service to transform the emotions and consciousness for those around you. In this episode Greg and Tom talk with the Producer, Writer and Director of Chesley Bonestell: A Brush with the Future  along with his Co-Producers Ron Miller and Melvin SchuetzWe talk to the three of them about who was Chesley Bonestell and what prompted them to make the film. We learn some interesting facts about Chelsey's influential paintings and talk about the paintings and books he illustrated. Chesley was the artist that brought to life the images of the space program using the concepts of Wernher von Braun's vision of life amongst the planets The creation of Chesley Bonestell: A Brush With The Future was guided by two Bonestell experts – Ron Miller and Melvin Schuetz - and the film includes the perspectives of over twenty individuals who either knew Mr. Bonestell or were influenced by his work.“I didn't know what other worlds looked like until I saw Bonestell's paintings of the solar system.”– Carl SaganChesley Bonestell: A Brush With The Future compellingly reveals a nearly-forgotten artist whose mysterious, almost magical, ability to envision distant worlds inspired generations to reach for the stars. Often compared to a twentieth-century da Vinci, this first-ever film about Bonestell explores the life and works of an artist whose influence and timeless imagery are regarded by many as unparalleled. This documentary was produced by award-winning filmmaker Douglass M. Stewart, Jr. and Co-Produced by Ron Miller, co-author of the Hugo Award-winning book, The Art of Chesley Bonestell, and Melvin Schuetz, author of A Chesley Bonestell Space Art Chronology.https://www.chesleybonestell.com/Podcast music:ending music Kamihamiha! - Alien Warfare Stems by Kamihamiha (c) copyright 2020 Licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution Noncommercial  (3.0) license. http://dig.ccmixter.org/files/Kamihamiha/60882Intro musichttps://pixabay.com/https://cdn.pixabay.com/download/audio/2020/10/26/audio_f906b5e5f1.mp3per Creative Commons Attribution Noncommercial  (3.0) license.Podcast ©2021 King Dyro ProductionsMovie Reviews and Serious Nonsense is a King Dyro Production

Greg interviews celebrated Thai artist Alex Face (https://www.facebook.com/Alexfacebkk), known mostly for his large building-sized murals, which appear not only in Bangkok but also in other cities around the world. Alex begins by recounting his interest in art as a child, which slowly developed into a passion and later a career. He explains his love of graffiti (both legal and illegal) and then discusses his education and attempts to live in other countries, including Korea and later England.  Interestingly, Alex mentions becoming a parent as a major turning point in his life, but not one that led him to a more conventional job. Instead, he focused on finding a way to support his family as an artist and continuing the struggle no matter what obstacles got in his way. Greg and Alex wind through multiple topics, including the art scene in Thailand relative to the West and the role of politics in modern Thai art.

The adjective “visionary” gets thrown around a lot, but it’s literally true of Chesley Bonestell and Arthur Radebaugh, the two illustrators featured in this week’s episode. Both men used their fertile visual imaginations and their artistic skills to create engaging, influential depictions of human space exploration and our high-tech future. Their work was seen by millions of magazine and newspaper readers throughout the 1940s, ‘50s, and ‘60s—boosting public support for space exploration and industrial R&D at a critical time for the U.S. economy. Now, both men are the subjects of documentary films. Chesley Bonestell was born in San Francisco in 1888, survived the earthquake and fire of 1906, and went on to become an accomplished and high-paid architect, artist, Hollywood matte painter, and illustrator of book and magazine articles. From the mid-1940s onward, he specialized in painting stunning views of space vehicles and views other otherworldly locations like the Moon, Mars, and the moons of Jupiter and Saturn. He lived to see humans set foot on the Moon in the 1960s and visit the gas giants via robotic probes in the 1980s, finally passing away in 1986. Arthur Radebaugh lived from 1906 to 1974 and built on his early career as an illustrator for Detroit-based advertising agencies to become a “funny-pages futurist,” producing the syndicated Sunday comic strip Closer Than We Think for the Chicago Tribune—New York News Syndicate from 1958 to 1963. In this episode we meet Douglas M. Stewart Jr. and the other producers of Chesley Bonestell: A Brush With the Future, a 2019 documentary about Bonestell, as well as Brett Ryan Bonowicz, maker of Closer Than We Think, a 2018 documentary about Radebaugh. And we hear from veteran science journalist Victor McElheny, who lived through (and documented) the era when Bonestell and Radebaugh were creating their visions of space and the future. The episode argues that futurist art, done well, can become a kind of self-fulfilling prophecy. It can teach consumer and citizens what to want and expect—whether that’s moon bases or self-driving cars or talking refrigerators—and it can inspire at least few people to become the scientists and engineers who actually go out and build those things.

They say he replied gently, “That would be very nice.” A lot of people will give you some variant of that same response if you ask them about space art. “Great idea. Somebody should try that.” “What space art?” I draw blanks with the idea all the time at social gatherings. Nobody seems to realize there is any.

Performed by Les Guetteurs des Sons (dir. Karlheinz Essl) and Margarete Jungen (voice).
