Here are a couple of tips to adjust to daylight savings, try gradually shifting your sleep schedule by 15 minutes each night leading up to the change. Also, get plenty of natural light during the day to help reset your internal clock
The best time for college retreats seemed to be at the beginning of Christmas break and return from that trip the day before Christmas. Was it successful yes... for several years. Was it worth it? For the students yes.... for my family who was very gracious to me? No. Why? Because all things in Jesus name are not necessarily the best thing to do. That sounds wild right? We did eventually move these trips to fall during spring breaks, but you have to use at least 2 different spring break weeks to cover a lot of the students since they were not always at the same time. The beauty of the Rocky mountains was always amazing! But... I had not yet learned the one rule, in which I will repeat over and over again for your sakes as leaders... and for you and your families health. ”You MUST say NO to something BEFORE you say YES to something else." FYI... That NO should be to some other equal project, ministry, or hobby that takes time from your family and health. All around health is important! Peter Drucker, the Father of Modern Business and mentor taught Pastor Rick Warren that specific truth. He would always say, “Rick... Tell me what you gave up before you tell me what you are doing next." A few things... It was the best time to get college students enthused and signed up. It was a beautiful time of the year to hit the slopes. Students came from all over the United States and that enthused the local students. The Gospel was shared and souls were saved. What would I do differently now? I would never go at Christmas time. That time should have been reserved for my wife, children, and their memories. I would have moved it to every other year and not every year. _______________________________ Looking for a new student ministry resource? Host Jeremy C. Park talks with Robyn Householder, CEO of the Better Business Bureau Serving Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky, who highlights the organization's efforts and mission "to create a marketplace grounded in trust, guiding people toward the best experiences while fostering stronger relationships between businesses and consumers."During the interview, Robyn shares some of the history for the Better Business Bureau and then talks about their model and focus on building better businesses. She talks about two of their awards programs: 1) The Torch Awards for Ethics (nominations close on February 14 and applications will close on March 21, 2025) and 2) The Spark Awards for entrepreneurs in business less than 3 years (applications close March 24, 2025). The Spark Award honors eligible social entrepreneurs, startup founders and new business owners that cultivate the Three C's of Trust: Character, Culture and Community.Robyn then discusses the organization's efforts to denounce unethical business practices and to help protect consumers from scams. She talks about some of the most prevalent scams taking place right now, including using QR code stickers at parking lots, using dating apps for romance and relationship scams, and storm chasers knocking on doors to solicit repairs. She shares some specific examples and ways you can protect yourself from becoming a victim. Here are some things you can do to avoid scams this year:Be cautious: Be wary of unsolicited emails from a person or a company. Remember, scammers can make emails look like they're from a legitimate business, government agency, or reputable organization. Never click on links or open attachments in unsolicited emails. Never send money to strangers: Check prices and shipping times on reputable retail websites to ensure they align with the offer you're considering. Create Strong Passwords: Make them long (16 characters and random (symbols and letters)) Use a Credit Card: Credit cards offer added protection for online purchases compared to other payment methods. Stay educated on the latest scams: visit gobbb.org, and sign up for our consumer newsletter Take time to breathe and not panic: scammers rely on the victims' emotions Before making a move, think the situation through. Check with BBB, visit BBB.org to find out more about a business. Talk to a friend or family member- before making a decision about something that sounds to go to be true.Remember to report any suspected scams to BBB Scam Tracker at https://www.bbb.org/scamtracker. Your reports help protect others. For additional questions, contact BBB at info@gobbb.org or call (615) 242-4222.https://www.bbb.org/local-bbb/bbb-of-middle-tennessee

The Truth is always the right thing to talk about and believe. The Truth is not what society usually wants to hear. Real Truth usually goes against the grain of society. So... it has to be delivered in Love, Compassion, and Power through God's spirit. Not by our own self-righteous power. Students (and humans in general) are drawn to God's conviction and driven away by human condemnation. This episode will provide you guidelines on delivering Truth with God's Power. _______________________________ Looking for a new student ministry resource? "The second you have expectations of others, is the second you're vulnerable. Expectations of others often leads to deep unhappiness… This doesn't mean you don't have standards of how people should act, but it does mean that all the social media dm's and thousands of expectations out there are drowning weights that give no clear direction. These expectations, often very selfish... are hurting you, upsetting you, and there is such a clear path to happiness. Focus on what you expect from you… not from others around you. If people fail to deliver, you can move on and adjust. Look yourself in the mirror and understand this truth... These expectations come from insecure and selfish frameworks - you are in control of changing this. Do things for others with no expectations. Live life with understanding and compassion when people don't “deliver”... perspective up! You'll be a lot happier not worried about what others are doing live and act for you, not for the expectations of others." - Gary Vaynerchuk There is also family, friends, and enemies who give advice that is more to protect them than you. Choose carefully who you listen to and what their motives are. Proverbs 3:5-6 - ”…Trust in the Lord with all your heart… and He will direct your paths.” Or rather the changes you should make in words, attitudes, or actual moves. _______________________________ Looking for a new student ministry resource? Today, I'm diving deep into my sobriety journey, especially focusing on how I've managed to travel while staying sober. It's been challenging but also incredibly fulfilling. I've gathered some of my best tips that have helped me navigate through various trips and experiences without alcohol.Helpful Tips for Being Sober While Traveling:Always Have a Drink Plan: Pack aesthetic non-alcoholic drinks like Recess or Poppi in a cooler so you won't be tempted to drink alcohol.Keep a Drink in Hand: Replace the urge for alcoholic beverages with fun, non-alcoholic options such as lattes, juices, or flavored sodas.Ask for What You Need: Don't hesitate to request your drink in a fancy glass with a fresh garnish to feel included during social toasts and cheers.Remove Yourself from Triggers: Feeling agitated? Walk away from the situation to clear your mind and reset your focus.Give Yourself Grace: Accept that triggers may happen and allow yourself the space to navigate them without guilt.Be Open About Your Journey: Encourage conversations about your sobriety to make it more manageable and less of a "dirty little secret."Play the Tape Forward: Think about the long-term consequences of taking that "one" drink to remind yourself why you chose sobriety.Focus on What's Important: Remember that certain experiences and relationships are more valuable than the temporary pleasure of drinking.Have a Support System: Randomly calling friends or family helps shift focus from the urge to drink and provides emotional support.Sober Travel Tips Download: https://stan.store/thesamanthaparker/p/ten-tips-for-sober-travelMy Sober Storefront full or my ON THE GO Mocktails: https://www.amazon.com/shop/thesamanthaparkerFollow me on TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@samanthaparkershowYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@thesamanthaparkerInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/thesamanthaparker/Connect with Sam on Instagram or TikTok
