Bonus Stop: Edzel Ford's home, son of Henry Ford! After touring Greenfield Village I decided I wanted to go to a bonus stop instead of another day at Greenfield Village. I was stunned by the outward aesthetic similarities of the Stan Hywet mansion. My wheels were spinning and memories flooded my mind from all the visits I had going to Stan Hywet from going with my mom to even working there. Railroads The Stan Hywet mansion is located in Akron, OH, my hometown, the “Rubber Capitol of the WORLD”! I shared a lot about the history of Firestone and Goodyear, who used a lot of rubber making tires, in this episode. But on this day of my fieldtrip, I thought about what made Ford so successful? It was making the gasoline engine car affordable for more people, specifically farmers. I gave a little background on Rockefeller and Vanderbilt too to prove my point of “access equals success”. And remember in the other homes the extensive libraries? Access to education and knowledge, right? And you know what made those two successful? The railroads because it provided transportation and access to more products and places. They were able to get their products to more people. And what do you think gave the North the upper hand in the Civil War? The railroads because they could transport supplies. And the other thing that made Ford so successful was his ability to pay his employees a higher pay than other companies. He was making more profit therefore able to pay his employees a higher rate. I couldn't help but to think about Eleanor Ford's role (Edzel's wife) in their home. She lived for 35 years still after Edzel passed. She had a sitting room off of her bedroom upstairs, that she turned into her study. She ran her household manager responsibilities from that study. And although she wasn't fond of the entertainment wing, she knew it was expected of her to entertain. She was very philanthropic and sat on many boards. But she was the queen of productivity. You see she would have multiple board meetings going at one time and then she could just pop in and out as they were being conducted. Genius! Internet Just like railroads were the gateway to transporting goods and people, now Google, Facebook, Apple, and Microsoft transport information. And just like the Goodyears and Rockefellers could get their products to more people, it is the same way I can impact more lives. They have been able to be really successful in a shorter amount of time than before the internet and able to provide better benefits for their employees due to their success. Organize 365® could not be what it is today without the internet. It gets more products to more people. It provides a more level playing field because it is accessible to all. And it has allowed me to learn about business and manufacturing. And because of the internet … we have podcasts! Yet another avenue to learn and/or get your message out. I always like to think of how women made their mark on change in society through their uniqueness. Artificial Intellagance I don't even know what to do with AI! (sigh) As technology advances so too does our ability for everyone to be successful due to a more level playing field for small businesses. Technology, transportation, and information provides access to more education. I wanted to take this series to think about where we have been as women, how it is now as women, and where we are going for women. What change could you have on society by doing what you are uniquely created to do? EPISODE RESOURCES: The Sunday Basket® Sign Up for the Organize 365® Newsletter Did you enjoy this episode? It's the first day of fall , or as some people weirdly call it, "autumn". We get into the dread of seasonal depression as the days get shorter and share a truly chaotic story after Dan decided to seal the entire driveway by himself. Shoutout Bucky. We finalize our road trip to Akron, Ohio, to hopefully podcast on the Goodyear blimp! We're a little concerned about the passenger rules apparently. We also had to get a few things off our chests, from the bizarre rise of AI-generated podcasts to an update on that podcaster who fakes their numbers and somehow landed a Spotify deal. To prove we're still a sports podcast, we talk about the return of the Women's Professional Baseball League and read off a list of the wildest names in college football, including "General Booty" and "Dude Person". We wrap it all up with a great story about NFL player DK Metcalf, who learned American Sign Language to connect with the deaf community and trash-talk his opponents on the field.
This week on the Five Heart Podcast, Greg and Minnie will quickly recap Nebraska Football's 59-7 win over the Huskies of Houston Christian University. A week after the 68-0 destruction of Akron, the Huskers posted another lopsided win, and got into the depth charts in the process. The starters sat the second half, giving an opportunity to TJ Lateef, Cortez Mills Jr, Kwentin Ives, and a host of others to maintain the standard that Dylan Raiola and Co. established in the first half of the contest. But as Good Ol JR would say, "business is about to pick up" this weekend when the #21 Michigan Wolverines come to Lincoln. This marks the eighth game between the schools since Nebraska joined the Big Ten Conference, most of he match-ups going the way of the Wolverines. Will this be the year that the Huskers overcome Michigan, beat a ranked team, and finally take the next step into recovering their place among the college football elite?
On The Kenny & JT Show we welcome in Chad Bailey from Akron Auto Auction and akronautoauction.com.

Yesterday, I was discussing how cell phones are being banned in schools across America. And recently I thought of another potential ban. Then, less than two weeks later, it looks like a school in Akron, Ohio, is taking the lead. They are instituting a water bottle ban. And I have a feeling they won't be the last. Today, everyone carries around a water bottle, whether it's a Yeti, Stanley, Owala, or some off-brand. One potential problem with these big metal bottles is that they can be used as weapons. And while I carry a big 46-ounce jug, one of my nephews carries one that's even bigger than that... “When you're a kid, you have so little control over things. To be the big entity controlling the smaller entity, whether it's dolls or [toy] soldiers or whatever it is, they do what you tell them to do. They become the story you are making.” — Brian SelznickWe all want to feel in control, mold our lives and experiences, and shape the world into something we can hold. But control is slippery; one moment, it can steady us, the next, it slips away. Brian Selznick—#1 New York Times bestselling author, illustrator, and Caldecott Medal winner—has spent his career playing with this tension. From "The Invention of Hugo Cabret" to "Wonderstruck" and, most recently, "Run Away With Me," Brian believes that it's his job as the author to control the reader's experience, forcing page turns and placing illustrations in a particular order, all while acknowledging that control is ceded to the reader once a book is in their hands. In this episode, Under My Thumb: Brian Selznick on Control, Brian reflects on his lifelong pull toward control in life and art—what drives it, how it shapes his work, and when the need to let go becomes inevitable. He shares his fascination with all things miniature and opens up with unflinching honesty about his complicated relationship with his father, spanning life and loss. He also reveals a formative influence you might not expect, and a most extraordinary afternoon with Ray Bradbury.Settle in for a fascinating, moving episode with one of the great creators of our time.***For his reading challenge, Brian has curated two lists: one exploring queerness in literature over time and the other celebrating the power of the page turn. The latter is about his commitment to books, experimenting with form, and the balance of control between writer and reader.Peruse selected titles and Brian's complete reading challenge for free at thereadingculturepod.com/brian-selznickThis week's Beanstack Featured Librarian is Chelsea Pisani, a rockstar children's librarian at Maple Valley Branch Library in Akron, Ohio. When Grace Myers laces up her running shoes, she's not checking her GPS watch or loading up on the latest sports nutrition—she's tapping into something more fundamental. On this episode of The Hobby Jogger, we meet a runner who qualified for Boston Marathon without using a single calorie of race fuel, who pushed strollers through training runs until the tires literally wore out, and who found her way back to the trails after surviving a terrifying assault.Grace's running journey spans over two decades, beginning as a 13-year-old running loops in her parents' yard. Her unconventional approach continued when she qualified for Boston Marathon at the challenging Akron course, only to miss the adjusted qualifying time by one second. In a remarkable twist, Sam Adams Beer Company offered her a sponsored entry—though COVID ultimately transformed her Boston experience into a virtual run around her neighborhood. The conversation takes a powerful turn as Grace courageously shares the story of being assaulted during a run just over a year ago. With remarkable candor, she discusses how this traumatic experience changed her relationship with running without breaking it. "I didn't want that taken from me as well," she explains, describing how important it was to remain the same person her children had always known despite the trauma.Today, Grace has found renewed joy in trail running, recently tackling the challenging first leg of the Laurel Highlands Trail relay and contemplating her first 50K ultramarathon. Drawing strength from her Polish heritage and the example of her grandfather who ran into his seventies, she embodies a resilient spirit that sees running not as a competitive pursuit but as a lifelong companion through all of life's challenges.Whether you're a seasoned runner or just beginning your journey, Grace's story reminds us that running offers not just physical benefits but profound emotional resilience. UAB vs. Tennessee Pick Prediction 9/20/2025 by Tony T. Recent Box Score Key Stats UAB at Tennessee 12:45PM ET—UAB is 2-1 following their 31-28 home victory against Akron. The Blazers rushed for less than three yards a carry against the Zips and as usual threw heavily for yardage. Defensively they allowed 3.7 yards a carry to the Zips with 282 yards passing for 8.1 yards per pass attempt.

Sunday night's show will look just a little bit different as Hoss and Jake are away for a family function. So Greg is making a call to the bullpen and bringing in Corn Nation's very own Nate McHugh. And I'll be honest - I had a much better write-up for this but Streamyard erased it. The Huskers beat the Houston Christian Huskies 59-7. The Nebraska starters sat after halftime, allowing the depth chart to continue getting meaningful reps. That means we saw the capabilities of TJ Lateef, who reeled off a beautiful touchdown pass to Cortez Mills Jr. You may be dismayed that the Husker offense didn't eclipse the 700-yard mark like it did last week against Akron, but you have to believe that had the starters played 1/2 of the third quarter, hitting 700 yards of offense would have been a possibility. Nebraska went a second consecutive game of not punting, meaning we're paying Archie Wilson too much. It wasn't all perfect, and Nate and Greg will talk about that. You can't NOT score in the red zone. But this isn't one of those Brian Kelley press conferences.

Jack, John, Kevin and Nate are back with the Friday Husker Tailgate! After the Huskers' 68-0 shutout win over Akron, how can Nebraska follow it up against Houston Christian? Can they follow it up with another perfect game? And how perfect was the win over Akron? We break it all down!
This week on the Five Heart Podcast, Greg and Minnie will recap last week's impressive 68-0 win over the Akron Zips. When the whistle blew on the end of the first quarter, the Huskers carried an unimpressive 9-0 lead. Fifteen minutes and 24 points later, Nebraska extended their lead to 33-0 (that's how math works). But for Head Coach Matt Rhule, that was not enough. He tore into the team at halftime and demanded better. He demanded that the team play to a level that earned respect and where Akron coaches would want to tell their AD NOT to schedule Nebraska any more. The Huskers then rattled off five second half touchdowns, the defense and special teams combined for the shutout, and Archie Wilson didn't punt a single time. All in all, it was he perfect make-up for the 2018 season opener that never happened. Also on the docket, the two prep the viewers/listeners for the upcoming Houston Christian game on Saturday.
Last year, Nebraska beat Colorado, 28-10, and came back down to Earth a little bit in a 34-3 win over Northern Iowa---the game was not really ever in question (21-3 lead at halftime), but fans didn't like UNI having a 16-play, 62-yard drive that led to a FG UNI had 301 yards in that game, with their QB having success on the ground…having already beaten Akron by a million and this being an 11am game, would anyone be surprised if Nebraska looks sluggish? And is that acceptable in any regard? The Nebraska football team faces off with FCS foe Houston Christian University on Saturday. The Cornhuskers are 2-0 on the year, following wins against Cincinnati and Akron.
We knew Nebraska would likely have few issues beating Akron, but did you or anyone envision 68-0 being possible? How impressive was that beatdown on Saturday? Nebraska does play a game this weekend---vs. Houston Christian—but it's hard to not look ahead to Michigan…how much has your opinion about Nebraska's chances in that game changed from before the season, if at all?
