Climate change is a crisis and action needs to be taken now. This is not political. The science has been very clear about it. This is a crisis that even for adults, is hard to grasp. So how do we talk to our children about it without freaking them out even though for a lot of us adults, we ourselves, are ‘freaking out’? I turned to Harriet Sugarman, Founder and Executive Director of “Climate Mama”. Harriet is the author of How to Talk to Your Kids About Climate Change: Turning Angst into Action. Harriet’s goal over the last many years is apolitical. And her book directly addresses this goal: to help parents have the conversation with their children about climate change and the fact that we are facing a crisis. Our children are facing a very different future than ours. How do we have the conversation and still maintain hope for ourselves and our children? Founded in 2009, ClimateMama is an on-line community reaching individuals in over 110 countries and 50 states. Harriet is a professor of Global Climate Change Policy and World Sustainability and Chair of the Climate Reality Project, NYC Metro Chapter. She is a climate policy advisor with many years of experience when it comes to activism on the climate crisis. In 2017, Harriet received the Climate Reality Green Ring Award and she is featured in Al Gore's 2017 book, An Inconvenient Sequel, Truth to Power. Harriet was selected as a 2020 New York City Climate Hero and a 2019 featured speaker at the Global Engagement Summit at United Nations Headquarters. She spent 13 years working with the International Monetary Fund including 10 years as an IMF representative at the United Nations. A sought after speaker on solutions to the climate crisis, here's a glimpse into this hopeful and inciteful episode with Harriet. Harriet's beginning and her journey It is a crisis Maintaining our own hope and that of our children Talking to children at various stages of life Actions do speak louder than words Truth is easier to deal with Actions that we can take to tackle the climate crisis together All profits from the sale of How to Talk to Your Kids About Climate Change will go to support parent, youth and teacher projects on education, advocacy and outreach on the climate crisis. For more information on this program and how to apply you can find the information on ClimateMama.com.

The 45th vice president of the United States discusses why, after the 2000 presidential election, he decided to devote himself, body and soul, to the cause of raising awareness about the threat of climate change and promoting ways of combating it before it’s too late for our planet; how he wound up the subject of the Oscar-winning 2006 doc 'An Inconvenient Truth' and its sequel 11 years later; and why he thinks Donald Trump needs to resign immediately.

It’s late August at Spoilerpiece! Hells yeah! Even though it’s the g.d. dog days of summer and there’s jack in the way of new releases, we did a new episode and we even found a new movie! Yay! But first, we step into RIEDEL’S RECAPS. Dave takes on the Monkees in HEAD (2:56) and then Edward Zwick’s GLORY (7:15), which spends a lot of time with the white cast members even though it’s about the first black soldiers fighting in the American Civil War. Evan takes over for an installment of CREWIND, featuring his take on the 2005 version of Mel Brooks’ THE PRODUCERS (11:00). We get to a new release with KRIS spoilerpiecing SOME FREAKS (17:25), which is On Demand right now. (Demand it!) Evan and Dave then get into Steven Soderbergh’s feature film return, the glorious LOGAN LUCKY (37:15), which they enjoyed the hell out of. Finally, Kris and Dave hit up AN INCONVENIENT SEQUEL: TRUTH TO POWER (51:24), which is a movie.
It's a jury special this week! The regular crew are joined by four jury members who will listen to the arguments and cast their vote to see if Lethal Weapon is crazy good or just too old. With Dave in the role of defender and Joel prosecuting, what will the jury decide? There's also news about the Fast and the Furious live show, the string of summer 2017 flops, the recently announced An Inconvenient Sequel, the Cowboy Ninja Viking comic book adaptation and discussion of the trailer for Death Wish. All this, and another installment of Quiz Dave that tests him on whether a buddy cop partnership is true or false. Did a cyborg Whoopi Goldberg really team up with a dinosaur to fight crime? "The Dark Tower" is a leading contender for the worst film of the year, says film critic, Gary Cogill, despite the presence of Idris Elba and Texas Oscar winner, Matthew McConaughey. The Cogill's embrace the global threat of climate change and Al Gore's new documentary follow up titled, "An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth To Power." Wine expert, Hayley Hamilton Cogill, pairs the dreadful "Dark Tower" with a red blend from California, "Apothic Dark," an inexpensive consumer favorite that is much be better than the film. For "An Inconvenient Sequel," we toast a favorite from Oregon, eco friendly & recent B Corp Certification status recipient, Stoller Family Estate.

It is the crisis of the future playing out in the present! Stop and ask yourself, "why would a politician pass legislation that turns it's back on this world changing problem?" If you don't realize it's because go money coming from "Big Coal" then you are fooling yourself.
Al Gore is back in the climate spotlight with the release of "An Inconvenient Sequel." This week, we’ll revisit his role as the unofficial spokesman for climate action. There’s still an active debate over how effective Gore has been in that role throughout the last decade. Then, Energy Secretary Rick Perry didn’t give away any nuclear secrets in his 22-minute call with Russian phone pranksters. But that may be the least of our worries. We’ll talk about a blockbuster new piece from Michael Lewis in Vanity Fair about the disordered transition in the Department of Energy. Finally, Britain makes some bold battery moves. We’ll glance at two new plans to boost distributed battery storage and ban gas-powered cars. It's war movie time! We review Dunkirk this week. Does it play differently as a war movie and as a movie movie? Does the PG13-level gore make it more accessible? Logan mini reviews Friends From College. Bob mini reviews Baywatch. In weekend picks, Logan brings up Room 104. Bob talks about The Emoji Movie and An Inconvenient Sequel, but makes the call for next week with Atomic Blonde. Let's rock! Follow us on Twitter: @LoganBeaux and @BobCaswell
An Inconvenient Sequel is debuting this week and with it will come renewed conversations on climate change, renewable energies and everything under the sun humans can do to help slow the inevitable rise of our oceans, poisoning of our air and water, etc, etc, etc - this all seems so hopeless as I type this up. Why all the denial? If it's job creation you're looking for studies show a myriad of results and they all point to double the job growth when money is spent on renewables rather than fossils. The energy companies and their cohorts do not care about you - they care about their profits and their yachts. Stop being a pawn - the is not a political issue and we'll all realize that when we're fighting over water, food and other resources while the monarchs running the world dine on the sweat off our brow. In this podcast, meet three of our local Bainbridge climate change activists who invite us to attend the Bainbridge Island premiere of the new movie by Al Gore: "An Inconvenient Sequel - Truth to Power". The premiere is slated for Friday evening August 4th at 7pm, at the historic Lynwood Theater in Lynwood Center on Bainbridge Island. After the film showing, there will be a panel of three local climate change experts will field questions from the audience. Organizations co-sponsoring the premiere and panel include: Climate Action Bainbridge EcoAdapt Island Power Sustainable Bainbridge; and Citizens' Climate Lobby. Our guests on this podcast include: Michael Cox, who recently retired from the Environmental Protection Agency after a 25-year career in that agency, and wrote a widely publicized resignation letter upon his departure; Sally Noedel, an owner of a local business focused on green and sustainable practices ("Whata Piñata!"), and whose previous BCB podcast told the story of her 1,000 mile walk to Oak Flats with her daughter to publicize the plight of sacred native American lands endangered by a proposed copper mine; and Dave McCaughey, a scientist who encourages investments in large-scale commercially viable renewable energy projects. All three of our guests recently returned from a multi-day seminar in Bellevue which was led personally by Al Gore. Approximately 800 participants attended that "Climate Reality Project" for the purpose of mobilizing citizen action now to address climate change. Tickets for the movie premiere are available either in advance at the Lynwood Theater website, or at the box office. The movie will have at least one week's run at the Lynwood, starting August 4th. In brief, they want more drinking fountains in London so we don't have to throw away so many plastic bottles. Someone's come up with a plastic container that you can eat. I wonder what you wrap it in. Should you be entitled to a doggy bag in Scotland? Your clothes are probably polluting the oceans, but some people have the balls to solve this problem. Plastic Planet is a pressure group seeking to banish plastic from the planet, or a lot of it anyway. They are targeting supermarkets. The Local Government Association is targeting chewing gum manufacturers. Let's aim for Zero Waste to Landfill. The Carbon Trust has a document that tells us how. On the energy front, there's trouble at Drax and there's a new renewables project in the wind on the Outer Hebrides. Scientists have discovered a material which absorbs CO2. Good news, maybe, for Al Gore who launches An Inconvenient Sequel in July. Finally, a word from a concerned citizen, writing to my local paper.
The guys follow up their previous discussion of Al Gore's new film "An Inconvenient Sequel" with another look at why the (in)famous environmentalist is a vaunted member of the Douche Hall of Fame. While President Trump is in the process of rolling back many environmental regulations from the Obama years; Al Gore is at it again. The trailer for his new film "An Inconvenient Sequel" has been released, and it is dramatic... in terms of the number of lies within it... Never fear, Pat and Stu are here to set the record straight.
