Enduring the tumultuous journey of heart condition diagnosis and treatment led me, Jeff Holden, to realize the profound need for a supportive community and reliable information. Reflecting on my own experiences, from the initial confusion and misdiagnosis to the breakthrough testing and subsequent surgery at Stanford, I've been driven to share insights that can empower others in similar situations. This episode marks a significant milestone with the release of my new book, Imperfect Heart: Stories of Myocardial Bridges, a tangible resource aimed at providing solace and understanding to those who prefer something beyond digital content. Through patient stories and expert interviews, I've assembled a wealth of knowledge that addresses the myriad challenges faced by patients, families, and healthcare professionals alike. Together with the relentless dedication of our Facebook group participants, the administrators, Rob and Stephanie, and the rest of the team, our community has flourished, expanding from 1,200 to over 2,600 members in just two years. This growth underscores our collective mission to raise awareness and foster understanding of heart conditions. It also emphasizes the need for a book as well. My hope is that this book will serve as an invaluable tool not only for individuals grappling with their diagnosis but also for medical professionals who need a deeper grasp of patient experiences. By sharing these narratives and insights, I aim to reach those who aren't digitally inclined and provide a cornerstone of support that bridges gaps in communication and knowledge across all fronts. Now we finally have... a book, the book, my book. Get your copy of Imperfect Heart:Stories of Myocardial Bridges HERE.
Guest: Blake Scholl, Founder & CEO of Boom Supersonic“Passion and drive trumps knowledge and experience,” says Boom Supersonic CEO Blake Scholl. Long before he was running Boom — which earlier this year successfully tested the world's first privately-developed supersonic jet — he was enabling “the world's most obnoxious spam cannon” at Groupon, or designing a barcode-scanning game for retail shoppers. But eventually, Blake found the courage to be more audacious and do something closer to his lifelong love of aviation. He began educating himself about things he had never thought to learn, and tapping his LinkedIn network to get intros to the smartest people in the industry. “If you imagine yourself on like the day of IPO, 99 percent of what you needed to know to get to that day, you didn't know on day one,” he says. “So, why not take 99 percent to 99.5 percent, and work on the thing you really want to exist, even if you don't know anything about it yet?”Chapters: (01:07) - Blake on Boom's beginnings (01:52) - Breaking the sound barrier (05:23) - Concorde's legacy (09:36) - Navigating regulations (12:08) - Boomless supersonic flight (16:48) - The test flight (20:11) - Day-of nervousness (24:26) - Carrying passengers (26:55) - Cost & wi-fi (30:19) - “No middle seats” (32:35) - Hard tech (36:48) - What if Apple made a plane? Could your heart be sending distress signals that traditional tests can't detect? Join me, Jeff Holden, for a revealing conversation with Dr. Samit Shah from Yale School of Medicine as he shares groundbreaking insights on the Discover INOCA research program. This multicenter study is pioneering the way we understand ischemia and non-obstructive coronary arteries (INOCA), focusing on elusive conditions like coronary microvascular dysfunction, myocardial bridging, and coronary vasospasm. Collaborating with institutions such as Stanford and Columbia University, this research aims to establish standardized protocols for better patient outcomes through advanced diagnostic techniques. And meet David Tretter, a patient whose life took a dramatic turn due to severe heart arrhythmias. His journey from a terrifying heart arrhytmia that led to a game-changing diagnosis at Yale is nothing short of inspiring. Dr. Shaw and his team meticulously differentiated David's myocardial bridge from his arrhythmias, using comprehensive tests like angiograms and provocative testing. Jeff Holden, CEO of Multipoint Content Strategies, lifelong cycling enthusiast and host of the "In Your Words" podcast, reflects on being bullied about his weight in grade school. Jeff discusses his attempts at placating the victimizer, while recognizing the lifelong implications the bully's words have had on his professional and personal life.
After a 30+ year successful career in broadcasting/radio Jeff Holden was surprised when he was tipped off in an email that he was getting fired. He had 6 days to prepare and build a plan. Thankfully, he had been preparing already but he didn't know it! What comes next? How do you pivot? More importantly, how do you make sure it never happens to you again? In this episode Shawn and Jen talk with Jeff about his experience of unexpectedly being unemployed and how was able to rise and rebuild his life. There is always a positive side to every negative event. There is beauty from the ashes of disappointment. There is a purpose to your life and sometimes it takes shaking your life up to see and ultimately follow that purpose. If you have lost your job or think that you might lose it, this is an episode that you won't want to miss!
In a slight deviation from the stories as told by the non-profit organizations, this episode actually is the outcome of crossed paths in the process of discussions for the benefit of the non-profits as two marketing leaders in the community thought it might be a good idea to share why marketing in an economic downturn is a good idea. Listen in as Jeff Holden, Principal and Visionary behind MultiPoint Content Strategies/Hear Me Now Studio and Tina Reynolds, President of Uptown Studios share a casual conversation about the significance of keeping your organization visible and relevant in the community. For more information on the pro-bono work being done by both Jeff and Tina, they can be reached at: Jeff@multipointstrategies.com Tina@uptownstudios.net
On today’s episode, Matthew talks to Jeff Holden, the CEO and Co-Founder of Atomic Machines and former CPO of Uber, Senior Vice President of Groupon, and the Senior Vice President of Consumer Websites Worldwide at Amazon. During their conversation, the friends share their thoughts on invention, fatherhood, and big tech. How do children mold one’s thinking? How does one navigate being a mentor that pushes ideas forward? How can large companies keep pushing innovation?
Listen in on the discussion between Jeff Holden, host of "In Your Words" and Shawn Davis, a former Financial Advisor who used podcasts and long form radio shows to build a very successful financial services company he then opted to sell in pursuit of a more independent career re-imagining homes. In other words, flipping houses...but with a twist. You'll hear Shawn share the process he used to grow the financial services business, some of the challenges he faced and then how he translated that success into his next entrepreneurial venture of buying, upgrading and selling homes. Podcasting is in his blood and the successes from nearly 10 years of shows on the financial side of things didn't quite translate into immediate success on the homes reimagined side of things. But, they will. The difficulties and learning curve have been pretty steep, however, you'll hear that voice of confidence, optimism and passion that come with the territory if you're going to win. The stories are informative, entertaining, motivating and will help you get a better understanding of the value of a podcast to help grow your business.
