(Radio4all is tijdelijk) We krijgen overduidelijke aanwijzingen! In this week's episode of the Follower of One podcast, Mike talks with Gina Lokken. Gina is an ACC certified coach, former vet-tech, and entrepreneur that helps people find, develop, and manage their strengths to become a better you. Give her a warm welcome to the community! 00:55 - Meet Gina 1:30 - How Gina started Coaching 6:30 - Strengths Finder and Gallup 8:45 - Faith in Gina's Work 11:05 - Gina's Focus in her Business 11:50 - Stories from Gina's Coaching 14:05 - Process on getting to your Strengths 16:45 - Gina's advice on living your faith in the Workplace 22:15 -Gina's advice on fear of Job 23:10 - Breakout Mastermind Groups with Gina Small Shifts The importance of caring for people, bringing our friends and family one step closer to Jesus, has nothing to do with big deeds. Most of us can't go overseas to preach the gospel or have meaningful change within 3rd world countries. Yet, we all aspire to do something extremely meaningful. Gina talks about how you don't need to look far, it is happening all around you. God puts everyone in our lives for a reason and it only makes sense that we start to pay attention to the more minor details of those circumstances. How are you going to start paying attention to the smaller details? Maybe think of new ways to show kindness at work? Let us know what works for you in the comments! True Potential Gina and Mike talk a lot about the Strengths Finder in this week's episode. This tool is used to show your potential in an array of areas related to yourself and how you behave. One of the most important ways Gina uses this tool is to help people see their full potential and bring another form of light into their lives through faith. How can we get more out of life than we are getting now? It is difficult but Gina wants to see people grow as much as you want to be the best person you can be. What does reaching your true potential mean to you? Are you striving for happiness and being closer to God? If we focus on those goals, we can then see the doors Jesus opens for us! Interview Quote "It's all about the small shifts... the small things. God puts a lot of things in our path that are small and we miss those Divine appointments to breathe life and Jesus into other people. Pay attention to what and who God has put in front of you on a daily basis?" Link to bioRxiv paper: http://biorxiv.org/cgi/content/short/2020.08.24.259432v1?rss=1 Authors: Voldsbekk, I., Groote, I., Zak, N., Roelfs, D., Geier, O., Due-Tonnessen, P., Lokken, L.-L., Stromstad, M., Blakstvedt, T. Y., Kuiper, Y. S., Elvsashagen, T., Westlye, L. T., Bjornerud, A., Maximov, I. I. Abstract: Sleep deprivation influences several critical functions, yet how it affects human brain white matter (WM) is not well understood. The aim of the present work was to investigate the effect of 32 hours of sleep deprivation on WM microstructure compared to changes observed in a normal sleep-wake cycle (SWC). To this end, we utilised diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) including the diffusion tensor model, diffusion kurtosis imaging and the spherical mean technique, a novel biophysical diffusion model. 46 healthy adults (23 sleep deprived vs 23 with normal SWC) underwent DWI across 4 time points (morning, evening, next day morning and next day afternoon, after a total of 32 hours). Linear mixed models revealed significant group x time interaction effects, indicating that sleep deprivation and normal SWC differentially affect WM microstructure. Voxel-wise comparisons showed that these effects spanned large, bilateral WM regions. These findings provide important insight into how sleep deprivation affects the human brain. We're back on track...here's a really helpful discussion covering why neuropsychological testing is important if you are dealing with memory loss, cognitive impairment, Alzheimer's, Traumatic Brain Injury, and even problems with mood (such as anxiety and depression). Kristine Lokken PhD is a functional neuropsychologist with a passion for helping people restore brain health. Her extensive background in clinical research, medical neuropsychology, and holistic wellness merged together to create the Brain Health Institute (BHI). In addition to her work at BHI, she served as the Director of the Rehabilitation Neuropsychology Service at the Birmingham VA Medical Center and instructed as a Clinical Assistant Professor at University of Alabama at Birmingham. She has maintained a private practice for over 15 years, and has seen thousands of patients with varying neurological and psychological issues in her clinical work. Dr. Lokken has published several articles in peer reviewed journals and has lectured extensively on brain health. Since the time of the recording of this episode Dr Lokken has relocated to Seattle, WA to be part of the Brain Health and Research Institute. Neuropsychologic testing is essential to make a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s or other dementia. This episode explores the role of a Neuropsychologist in a holistic approach to cognitive care. Our discussion begins by focusing basic definitions within the field of neuropsychology. We discuss what is coming down the line in terms of early recognition of Alzheimer’s from a neuropsychologist’s perspective. Later we take a deeper dive into the best tests or areas to test for early recognition. We touch on some of Dr Lokken’s recently presented evidence that homocysteine may be one of the more useful and affordable biomarkers to look at. Dr Lokken talks about the value of online cognitive tests versus being evaluated by a Neuropsychologist. The discussion continues by looking at self-reported cognitive decline and what you can do if you feel you are worried about it. We finish talking about how the medical community has changed its perspective on prevention going back to the end of 2018 and what is possible in the future in terms of prevention.
