Most of us are not aware of being controlling. We think that we're doing it out of kindness, trying to help our partners. But in fact, we don't realize that our actions come across to them as controlling. So how do you begin to unpack that? And how do you stop it for good? Relationship and intimacy expert Marla Mattenson is here to walk us through the ways to finally let go of control in our relationships. Tune in to this episode: How To Let Go of Control in Relationship with Marla Mattenson. Key points covered in this episode: ✔️ Assume and be curious. Do you catch yourself irritated with your partner's words or actions? Feeling resentful of them? You may be showing signs of being controlling. There's nothing wrong with that. Give yourself space to learn and grow. ✔️ Ask for a redo. Your constant need for control makes you unconsciously think they're in the wrong. Recreate the scenario with them when you both can be in your best selves. The goal is to come out of it with more love. ✔️ Become the vibration of worthiness. Knowing our worth makes admitting our flaws much easier. But most of us were raised by parents or caregivers who didn't feel worthy. It's never too late to break the cycle. ✔️ Align yourself to the new definition of intimacy. It's the ability to be unguarded and receptive at the same time in different aspects of your relationship. The idea is to lower your defenses, even if it feels scary, so you can increase your capacity to receive more than just your own way of being. ✔️ Every controlling expression has a reason. You shared a preference with your partner. You didn't mean to sound controlling, but they felt it was. Honor their feelings. If your partner is feeling it, it's true. ✔️ Not everyone will enjoy your personal expression. Kindness can also mean setting firm boundaries. Some people may think that's controlling, and that's okay. This is your way of taking personal responsibility for your actions and choices. Marla Mattenson is an internationally recognized expert working with thought leaders and their partners in love and business. Using her background in neuroscience and mathematics, Marla guides couples and individuals to uncover the hidden patterns in relationship and business to unlock passion, financial success, and unlimited joy. Of course we branch off in many different topics but for the most part, Marla discusses the reasons for high numbers of divorce, the many layers of intimacy, being extremely transparent to prevent dishonesty and cheating, and techniques to help guide couples to break bad habits. One concept that Marla really emphasized is that happiness is not a forever feeling. One is going to be down in the dumps one way or another, at one time or another and mistakes may be made in the dumps. One makes mistakes when one is in the dumps but it should not a time to shame or judge a partner, it is a time evaluate not only the mistake but the actions that led to that mistake from both angles. Lack of really sharing the truth on what's going on insides until it gets so bad, that the only option is to leave.” “If you're thinking about cheating and haven't told your partner, now is the time to talk about it before you do something.” “The idea is to open the idea of communication in a way that leads to deeper intimacy. Intimacy, as we define it … is to be simultaneously unguarded and receptive at the same time.” “Intimacy is way more than just sex. And, when sex is off, it feels like 90% of the relationship. And that's why, if you're feeling uncomfortable in your physical body, it's really challenging to want to have sex.” “Unless you're actively growing together, you're unintentionally growing apart.” “Cheating is not a deal-breaker in a relationship. It is an opportunity to take a look at how the patterns came together between the two of you, activated in such a way that cheating was the outcome.” “Cheating is never one partner is the issue problem, or the perpetrator of that experience. It had to happen because both partners are engaged in relationship in way that allowed that to move forward.” “The idea of us being dishonest, all of us are dishonest. All of us are dishonest, even on a subtle level because words are never going to completely the exact experience of what you're experiencing inside.” “If you haven't been using the resentment that is in your relationship as an opportunity to connect, here is a technique… The share and scribe is a technique that's meant to clear resentment before it starts, as it's building, after it's already there.” “Reconciliation for something that happened in the past is definitely necessary for the person who experienced it to be able to move forward in truth.” “Happiness is a human emotion that comes and goes just like every other emotion. It is an unsustainable, you can't sustain it forever. “Happiness is not the goal of a relationship. The relationship to be fully expressed, is really the goal, if you're going to have one in a relationship. Nobody has to shove it down.” “If you don't feel worthy inside, you're going to receive that as if there's something is wrong with you. But if you feel worthy inside, you're going to be like understand, this is about them.”

Episode 58: My Favourite Business PodcastsThis week I share some of my favourite podcasts that have helped me build my business. The podcasts cover everything from marketing to money to mindset... I really don't know where I'd be today without these audio inspirations!  I talk about the first podcast I ever listened to only a few years ago by a huge mentor of mine Amy Porterfield. Her podcast is called Online Marketing Made Easy and when I discovered her she blew my mind with her wealth of knowledge. Amy has really inspired me with her blend of hard-hitting business strategy and lighter, more fun and inspiring style. I share another favourite podcast, my mentor Rick Mulready and I reference a very special episode of his show that I was on, where Rick and I talk all about mindset and playing a bigger game in our businesses. It's a slightly different side of me than you've likely ever seen, and if you're interested in the "inner game" stuff, I recommend you check it out. And from there I share quite a few others, you'll have to listen to learn them all!Links mentioned in this episode:Marketing Made EasyAmy PorterfieldEpisode #106: Are You Repelling or Attracting Your Potential Customers with Jasmine Starhttps://www.amyporterfield.com/2016/04/106-repelling-attracting-potential-customers/Episode #207: Why You Aren't Taking Action with Brooke Castillohttps://www.amyporterfield.com/2018/06/217/The Art of Online BusinessRick MulreadyEpisode: Why Growing Your Business is 90% Mindset, with Lianne Kimhttps://rickmulready.com/business-mindset-lianne-kim/Mind Your BusinessJames WedmoreEpisode #186: The 7 Universal Laws of Abundance with Christy Whitmanhttp://mindyourbusinesspodcast.com/podcast/186Oprah's Super Soul PodcastEkhart Tolle – 10 Part Series around his ground breaking book “A New Earth”http://www.oprah.com/own-a-new-earth/chapter-1How to Lead for Female EntrepreneursKris Plachyhttps://krisplachy.com/podcast/Life Coach School PodcastBrooke Castillohttps://thelifecoachschool.com/podcasts/The CEO Teacher PodcastKayse MorrisEpisode: Quiet the Noise to Build the Business of your Dreams with Jasmine Starhttps://kaysemorris.com/podcast/quiet-the-noise-to-build-the-business-of-your-dreams-with-jasmine-star/The Business of Thinking Big PodcastLianne KimEpisode #41: Dealing with Imposter Syndromehttps://www.liannekim.com/blog/41The Small Non-Profit PodcastCindy Wagmanhttps://charityvillage.com/cms/knowledge-centre/the-small-nonprofit-podcastScrew the Nine to Five PodcastJill & Josh StantonEpisode: An Intimate Look into our Struggles as Couplepreneurs with Marla Mattenson & Julian Colkerhttps://www.screwtheninetofive.com/intimacy

I Heart My Life Show

You don't need to ask permission from anyone to do what it is that you were put on this earth to do, but you can ask for support. -James Williams   WORK WITH EMILY iheartmylifebooking.com E-mail: info@iheartmylife.com   DURING THIS EPISODE Transformation does not stop once you leave the room. That’s why James and I are sharing some of the transformations we witnessed at our first annual I Heart My Life Live. We want to give you that behind the scenes experience of what actually happened at I Heart My Life Live and hope you take it and apply it to your life business to create your own transformation.   FINDING THE COURAGE TO RELEASE WHAT NO LONGER SERVS YOU Dawn is someone who really inspired us because she got herself into alignment. One of the biggest transformations we talk about is having clarity around what's next for you. Sometimes that means being brave enough to release the things that are no longer working. Take a look at what's serving you and what's not. Ask yourself what you need to release in order to move towards that thing that you really want to create this year. When you're in alignment, you are unstoppable.   ASKING FOR SUPPORT INSTEAD OF PERMISSION A very brave woman stood up at the live event and talked about this movement that she's creating to serve women around the world who have experienced postpartum depression. All of us in the room were so impressed by her and felt her heart for doing this work. She also shared that she felt like she needed to ask her husband for permission to have funding to move forward with this dream. James did an incredible job at supporting her and helping her understand that it's not about asking for permission, it's about asking for support. One of the things that we see in our community and especially in rooms that are full of driven women is this indecision piece. We revert to this little girl's mindset of asking for permission instead of granting ourselves permission and moving full speed ahead with what it is that we want to do. There's a difference between asking for permission and asking for support. The important piece is that you give yourself permission to ask for support, but to go full in and believe that you can figure it out.   RAISING YOUR PRICES What would you put into a service, package, or product that cost $250,000? This is something Marla Mattenson encouraged people to think about. Money is your coach inviting you to go to the next level, inviting you to become that next level version of you. That means you transform your mindset. You get creative. You up your game. Step into your power. Become more confident. That's one of the most significant transformations that we shared from the stage at I Heart My Life Live. It goes back to really thinking about what it is that you actually desire.   THE REASONS YOU CAN DO SOMETHING Our next transformation is all about seeing the reasons why you can do something, not why you can’t. So, we want to invite you to open up your eyes and look around and see everything that is possible for you. All of our speakers have a story of transformation, and you do as well. And so it's really important that you start to look at why you can do something. And frankly, if you have the desire to do something, that means your capability is right there alongside it. It's not always going to be easy. And yes, there might be a learning curve, but that doesn't mean that you can't do it.   FEAR AROUND THE PROCESS Most of us have fear around what's to come. One of the main four fears that we know from a study that was done worldwide is there's this fear that we will be responsible for the actions that we take for our own ruin. Do you really have a fear of a process, or is it that you don't trust yourself enough to succeed? The truth is, there is no perfect process. Go in alignment with where you want to go and stop waiting for the path to be laid out in front of you to be perfect. Just Move Forward.   JAMES AND EMILY'S TRANSFORMATIONS James I think my biggest transformation was reconfirming that you do have your own path. What I do as a coach is very similar to what a lot of people do, but I have my lane. When I'm running in my lane, then I'm my best self, and things work out. Emily My biggest transformation was that I'm capable of far more than I give myself credit.   ABOUT THE I HEART MY LIFE SHOW Tune into the I Heart My Life Show with Success Coach Emily Williams to learn how to design a life you love, manifest more success and wealth, move past fear and blocks and create joy in your life and business. Hey, Boss! There are some subjects that I just KNOW weigh on the minds of entrepreneurs more than others...and being in a relationship is one of them. When I opened up the polls and asked all of my followers across all platforms what questions they had for relationship and intimacy experts Marla Mattenson and Julian Colker, I was blown away by the response. The vulnerability, the rawness, and the open curiosity that came back to me was absolutely astounding. I had so much amazing feedback and engagement, in fact, that the questions more than filled our entire time in this interview, so I had to choose carefully. And let me tell you, the selection of questions we dig into will not disappoint! How many time per week is ‘normal' and ‘healthy' to have sex when you're in a long-term relationship? Do relationships between entrepreneurs and non-entrepreneurs actually work out in the long run? If you're in a position where you're so damn successful you can offer your partner the option to not work, what is the best way to navigate this scenario…especially if you're a woman? From flipping traditional gender roles to a 3-minute sex ritual you can set up on the daily to keep things exciting and fresh, we cover so many different questions and angles to this conversation that I'm thinking of bringing these two back on a quarterly basis. You're gonna love this interview, Boss! She’s a successful coach who works with entrepreneur couples to strengthen their relationships and business. In this episode, she threads the pieces of her random past together to prove that you can leverage one core skillset to create endless opportunities throughout every leg of your journey.   Episode Topics   Parallels between childbirth and entrepreneurship ‘Doula’ defined Communication and trust as an expertise Self-reflection and pivoting after trauma Entrepreneur’s intuition and listening to your calling Do you have an affinity for intensity? The impact of a trustworthy inner-city high school math teacher Earning trust to help clients through intimate issues Applying an entrepreneurial spirit as a teacher Why Marla doesn’t believe in fixed incomes Finding opportunity on a plane. Again. (see episode 7) How hiring a money mindset coach boosted Marla’s self-confidence Doula clients vs. relationship coaching clients [5:39] Born entrepreneur: Since age 11, Marla's monetized everything she's done from babysitting to hand-crafted jewelry.   [7:17] Starting line: In 1993, she became a pregnancy massage therapist and one of her teachers mentioned she'd make a good doula. Turns out, she did.   [8:01] Realizing potential: Began working with couples as a postpartum doula — coaching them through high-intensity moments.   [9:22] "The intensity of how comfortable I can be living in the unknown, flying blind, living by my vision without anybody else paving the path ahead of me. I'm paving my own path. That's kind of what birth is."   [13:01] Traumatic transition: Marla was in an accident that rolled her car down Topanga Canyon in L.A.   [15:06] Soul searching: She took a month off to heal, meditate, and self-reflect. "If I had another life to live, what would I do?"   [15:31] Pivoting: Went back to school to be an OBGYN but changed majors to Mathematics. Earned her Masters in Mathematics and Medical and Life Sciences at UCLA. [20:33] Increasing impact: Took her drive for math into the classroom and taught math to inner-city high schoolers in L.A. for 7 years. [20:53] Continued education: With the support of Math for America, Marla earned a national board certification and taught math and Pedagogy to teachers across the US.   [22:17] Seeing opportunity: "I was hired initially at a school with a principal who was very open to me developing programs, so I did a lot of project-based learning." [22:58] Honoring entrepreneur spirit: Marla's methods were recognized by a man who helped with project-based learning around the country. He trained her personally —leading to more opportunities.   [24:17] Earning client trust: "You'll never get hired as a doula or anybody who's really gonna help someone through something intimate unless people trust you...People tend to feel very safe with me."   [29:18] Entrepreneur’s intuition: Felt the pull to coach couples full time and hired a high-level entrepreneur business money mindset coach.   [31:06] Shifting into expertise: “[My coach] did for me what I'd been doing for others all these years which was to help me see, 'Oh, I can believe in myself as much as I can believe in others."   [32:35] Same skills, different format: Marla applied the same skillset as a doula to working with entrepreneur couples.   [36:56] Opportunity seeker at heart: "I don't believe in fixed incomes...there's always more you can do to uplevel if you're not happy with how much money you're bringing in."   [37:25] Opportunity everywhere: A man made conversation with Marla on a plane. He was the president of CBS in LA and offered to have her on a show.   [38:03] First client connection: Marla compares her first paying clients as a doula to her first clients as a relationship expert.   [40:54] Channeling energy: "I'm just a vessel here. I get myself out of the way more and more so [energy] can easily and effortlessly really channel through me so people get results."   “You have to not be looking for opportunities to really miss them.”     Connect with MarlaMattenson.com Facebook Insta     Subscribe to the Experts Unleashed YouTube Channel for exclusive video trainings and content.
