We wanna hear from you! Send us a message here :) When country music lovers talk about the greatest groups in the genre, Shenandoah is always at the forefront of any discussion. Fueled by Marty Raybon's distinctive vocals and the band's skilled musicianship, Shenandoah became well known for delivering such hits as “Two Dozen Roses”, “Church on Cumberland Road” and “Next to You, Next to Me” as well as such achingly beautiful classics as “I Want to be Loved Like That” and the Grammy winning “Somewhere in the Vicinity of the Heart” duet with Alison Krauss. Today that legacy continues as original members Raybon and Mike McGuire reunite to launch a new chapter in Shenandoah's storied career. It all began when the guys got back together to perform a benefit concert for a friend battling cancer. “We saw how folks reacted,” Raybon says of the response to their reunion. “And then Jerry Phillips, son of legendary Sun Records producer Sam Phillips, said ‘You guys need to make a run at this. People still love what you do. You can tell by the reaction. There's a lot of excitement in the air.'”The Oak Ridge Boys have sold over 41 million units worldwide and are synonymouswith “America, apple pie, baseball, and country music.” In addition to their awards and accolades in the country music field, the Oaks have garnered five GRAMMY® Awards, nine GMA DOVE Awards, and two American Music Awards. The group—Duane Allen, Joe Bonsall, William Lee Golden, and Richard Sterban—was inducted into the prestigious Country Music Hall of Fame (2015 Inductees) and the Grand Ole Opry (since 2011)—and is known worldwide as one of recording history's most extraordinary musical successes. Renowned as the untamed force behind Lynyrd Skynyrd, Artimus Pyle's impactful double bass drumming was instrumental in defining the band's iconic sound. His breakthrough moment came at the Charlie Daniels Volunteer Jam, where his authoritative drumming, initially credited simply as "Artimus Pyle, percussion," captured widespread attention. Further establishing himself as a sought-after session drummer, Pyle connected with acts such as Charlie Daniels and the Marshall Tucker Band, eventually crossing paths with Ronnie Van Zant and Ed King at Studio One in Doraville, Georgia. This fateful encounter paved the way for the creation of Saturday Night Special, leaving an indelible mark on Ronnie. Making his live debut at Jacksonville's Sgt Pepper's Club in October 1974, Pyle assumed the role of Skynyrd's drummer following the release of Second Helping, contributing to the band's subsequent four albums, including the legendary Street Survivors. Pyle survived the band's tragic 1977 plane crash that took six lives, including Steve and Cassie Gaines, along with the band's leader, Ronnie Van Zant. "This project has been a year in the making, but when the fans hear it they will understand why it took so long," says Len Snow, Get Joe Records president. "Artimus is legendary within the Southern Rock space. The music that Lynyrd Skynyrd made will always live as a part of rock history. This album honors that music and gives Artimus a way to honor his former bandmates."

He would replace their original drummer (Bob Burns) following the release of the group's second album, Second Helping, and performed with the band and on Skynyrd's subsequent four albums,Nuthin' Fancy, Gimme Back My Bullets, Street Survivors, and their live album, One More for the Road. Pyle was injured but survived the band's 1977 horrific plane crash that abruptly ended the lives of six people, including band members Steve and Cassie Gaines, and most notably, frontman and musical visionary Ronnie Van Zant.In 1979, the band began to reunite, first for the 5th Annual Charlie Daniels Volunteer Jam, and eventually, as the Rossington Collins Band (which included all the remaining band members and Pyle, plus Dale Krantz on lead vocals and Barry Lee Harwood on guitar). However, shortly after that, Pyle was in a car accident that broke his leg in 21 places and shattered his hopes of remaining with the group. Pyle spent the next three years healing, both physically and emotionally, before returning to the States and establishing the Artimus Pyle Band (A.P.B.) to honor the music and legacy of Ronnie Van Zant.In 1987, Pyle rejoined his former bandmates to tour and eventually record as Lynyrd Skynyrd 1991, but the experience left him flat. While he deeply loved them, he no longer felt the magic he once did with Van Zant at the helm, nor was he interested in returning to the party lifestyle for which the band was known and stepped away from the group permanently, only to return in 2006 during Lynyrd Skynyrd's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (where he played alongside Bob Burns). Now in his 70s, Pyle still continues to honor Van Zant's musical legacy, recording and touring with the Artimus Pyle Band, now comprised of Pyle (drums), Scott Raines (guitar/vocals), Jerry Lyda (guitar) Brad Durden (keyboards/vocals), and Dave Fowler (bass).https://artimuspyleband.com/https://www.amazon.com/Anthems-Honoring-Music-Lynyrd-Skynyrd/dp/B0CKH9X2WHBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/i-am-refocused-radio--2671113/support.
This is the interview as heard on the Dial and Deal show on WWAG 107.9fm. Artimus has had a full life in the music industry and shows no signs of quitting anytime soon! In the year of 1974 he was recommended by the legendary Charlie Daniels to the band Lynyrd Skynyrd to take the spot of the original drummer Bob Burns, due to health reasons. Artimus tells the story of his father being killed in a plane crash and after he signed the wrongful death papers on his dad, he put his last dollar in gas to go record the song Saturday Night Special. Many stories are shared in this episode and some were really emotional. The plane crash that took the lives of band members Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines, Cassie Gaines, and road manager Dean Kilpatrick has had a big impact on the music scene since that day October 20, 1977. The latest project that Artimus is working on is titled Anthems: Honoring the music of Lynyrd Skynyrd it is a collaboration of the Artimus Pyle Band (A.P.B.) featuring several big name stars in the music industry. Dolly Parton, Sammy Hagar, Marty Raybon, Ronnie Dunn, and Jarrod Niemann, just to name a few! It has been put together with labor and love from the folks at Get Joe Records. Sue Duffield sits down with Christian Country artist, LIsa Daggs, for a personal and reflective conversation about how she struggled through the challenges and temptations of an entertainer's lifestyle. She worked to rediscover the inner peace she had lost. “I was full of self-will, running my own show, and believing I knew what was best for my life,” she recalls. Lisa forced her way through the process of overcoming the severe consequences caused by her previous lifestyle, but then turned her life over to the complete care of God, trusting Him for strength and guidance. Sue's gem of a new friend, Lisa, courageously shares her own story of loss, redemption, and hope - to inspire everyone she meets. As a vocal performance artist Lisa has been honored with numerous awards including The Gospel Voice Diamond Award for Country Artist of the Year (other nominees included Charlie Daniels, Ricky Skaggs, Marty Raybon and Lee Ann Rimes), CCMA's Entertainer of the Year and New Artist of the Year, and as “the brightest newcomer to the scene” by the Christian Country Research Bulletin. In time, however, God began to open a new facet of ministry for the singer.“I had been writing songs for years,” she recalls, “but it was more like journaling with rhyme. Yet there was a season of time around 1997 or 1998, when we were losing my grandmother to dementia and my mom was diagnosed with a tumor near her brain, that I began to see life intersecting with Scripture. The verses that God was using to bring me peace and comfort suddenly began to take on a melody, and I'd write it down. Then one night at church, a friend encouraged me to record some of the songs, so I did; then another friend who worked for a record company gave the songs to the publisher at thelabel, and within a week, the trajectory of my life had completely changed.”Kenna got her first cut shortly thereafter (“A Taste of Grace”), followed by her first radio single (“We're Not Gonna Bow”), which reached #1 on the national charts as well as earning the new songwriter her first of eleven Dove Award nominations.Twenty years later, Kenna has penned over a thousand songs and has garnered over 100 “Song of the Year” nominations, along with 25 “Song of the Year” winsand 8 BMI Awards. As a staff writer for Curb|Word Music Publishing in Nashville, her songs have appeared on GRAMMY® Award-winning projects by both JasonCrabb and Hillary Scott (of Lady A), as well as eight GRAMMY® nominated recordings. You can also find her work on projects by artists such as The Martins, The Isaacs, Michael English, The Crabb Family, Finding Favour, Charles Billingsley, Take 6, The Oak Ridge Boys, The Booth Brothers, Wes Hampton and AdamCrabb of the Gaither Vocal Band, Triumphant Quartet, Travis Cottrell, Jimmy Fortune (of The Statler Brothers), The Collingsworth Family, Brian Free & Assurance,Marty Raybon (of Shenandoah), Joseph Habedank, Karen Peck & New River, Jeff & Sheri Easter, The Nelons, Selah, The Blackwood Brothers, Mac Powell (of ThirdDay), and many more.Additionally, Kenna has created six musicals for the church, including Word Music's best-selling “We Are Witnesses,” along with the Dove Award-nominated projects, “Love Won” and “Christmas Is in The Heart.”In 2020, Kenna signed as an artist with Crossroads Music Group and released her long-awaited project, “A Reason for Hope,” in the summer of 2021.“I am so excited about this new chapter of life,” she shares. “It is as if everything that the Lord has allowed me to do for Him over the last 38 years has ledto this moment.”Kenna's career in gospel music has indeed come full circle. The author and board-certified Biblical counselor—who is currently pursuing a master's degreein theology—continues to blend music, devotional teaching, and humor into a ministry that reaches across the nation and around the world with the goodnews of the Gospel. Whether she is writing songs on Music Row or ministering alongside noted Christian leaders at venues ranging from The Pentagon to NASCARchapels to the local church, Kenna's life has a singular call: to creatively communicate the Living Hope found in Jesus Christ.“It's all I have wanted to do since I became a Believer,” she confesses, “and I feel so incredibly blessed that God is still allowing me to do just that.”For more information about Kenna's music and ministry, or to book her for an event, contact her office at kenna@kennaturnerwest.comYou can now catch The Gospel Jubilee Thursday afternoons at 4:00 PM and Sunday mornings at 9:30 AM EST on Southern Branch Bluegrass RadioGo to www.sbbradio.orgYou can also catch The Gospel Jubilee Saturday evenings at 7:00 and Wednesday afternoons at 4:00 CST on Radio For Life.Go to: www.RadioForLife.orgPlaylist: Artists | Song Title | Album01. In 1989, Sammy Sadler was a critically-acclaimed newcomer to the country music fold, Sammy Sadler, had already charted several successful singles and was ready to release his first album on Evergreen Records when he was caught up in the assassination of then Cash Box chart-manager, Kevin Hughes, and a payola scandal that would bring down the magazine and rock the music industry. Despite suffering a near-fatal gunshot wound that would require multiple surgeries to repair, Sadler remained under suspicion until the murder was solved thirteen long years later. With the 2021 releases of singles 'The Church On Cumberland Road' featuring Marty Raybon and 'She's Crazy For Leaving', Sammy Sadler released his latest full-length album, '1989', available now.

They spoke about the band's biggest hits, including "The Church on Cumberland," "Two Dozen Roses," "Next to You, Next to Me" and "I Wanna Be Loved Like That."
Begun by Marty Raybon and his group in 1984; Shenandoah went on to be one of the most popular singing groups of its day. There music keeps on keeping on to this day. The Forester Sisters had a relatively short run, but their music will always be with us. Grady, on the other hand, has had a long run. But age is not the thought here. His stories will live in many memories for a long time. Hear for yourself. Enjoy!

Welcome to the July 2021 edition of Stone Cold Country's https://manage.wix.com/dashboard/8af3cd08-b5ad-47b9-9ac5-ede361a9564b/blog/published/search/.hash.onthebrink?referralInfo=sidebar (#onthebrink) podcast. As we've often stated we like to keep our ear close to the ground when it comes to traditional forms of country music. In this edition of the podcast we were honored to connect with Merle Monroe's CMA nominated Tim Raybon. The band is a joint project between Tim, and Daniel Grindstaff. East Tennessean (Go Bucs) Daniel is an accomplished musician who made his Grand Ole Opry debut with Jim, and Jesse when he was just 18! He also played in Marty Raybon's bluegrass band thus beginning a life long friendship with Tim. Tim along with his brother the founder of the Grammy Award winning band Shenandoah, found success together as the Raybon Brothers earning a gold single with the song titled Butterfly Kisses which also earned a CMA nomination. When you put all this talent together, what do you get? A perfect blend of Merle Haggard emotive song stylings, and the meticulous virtuoso level playing of Bill Monroe. The product is Merle Monroe- a band that marries old school country, and bluegrass with a fresh spin perfectly nestled in Americana as it is in Country Folk, and Bluegrass. With a couple of number ones under their belt already, a collaboration with Mo Pitney, and a nod from the International Bluegrass Music Awards the future looks very bright. Anna Marie, my co host and Admin at Stone Cold Country and I had the opportunity to sit down and chat with Merle Monroe's force majeure vocalist Tim Raybon. Here are the results of that conversation.

We had the pleasure of interviewing Adam Sanders over Zoom video! Raw talent is essential for an artist to develop a successful career, but a strong sense of identity is just as crucial. Adam Sanders possesses both. In a day and time where budding entertainers can be shaken by numerous factors from social media critics to music industry gatekeepers, it takes a special caliber of person to know what’s truly important to them and, even more difficult, to hold fast to those values. The proof is in the listening of Sanders’ latest release, “Ruled The World,” which features seven of his fellow singer-songwriters along with a music video that stars his musical heroes Tracy Lawrence, Aaron Tippin and Shenandoah’s Marty Raybon and Mike McGuire.Faith, Family, Music, the Outdoors and Fitness are the pillars Sanders’ life revolves around and he has discovered those are priorities for many of the folks he’s singing to as well. “I’ve grown a lot in the past year, and I thought, ‘Who am I, really?’ I always thought of myself as an everyday guy, but different than the guy on stage,” he says of reconciling his public and private personas. “I’ve learned over the last year that that guy off stage needs to be the same guy on stage so it’s real. I want to be relatable and I want to be me in every area of my life. Fans can see when it’s not real, and I’m happier and more successful when I am not pretending to be something I’m not.”A native of Lake City, FL, Sanders knew at an early age that music would be his life. “My mom likes to say I could sing before I could talk,” says the avid outdoorsman and fitness fanatic. “I’ve got tons of pictures of me dressed up in a cowboy hat, boots and jeans because I idolized Alan Jackson very early on and envisioned him as my hero.”Most of Sanders’ family had musical talent, especially his uncle Scotty Sanders, a professional steel guitar player, who encouraged his nephew’s dream. After honing his skills performing around northern Florida, Sanders moved to Nashville in 2009. He worked construction to pay the bills while developing his chops as a songwriter. His skills caught the attention of executives at Big Yellow Dog who signed him to a publishing deal.Sanders first found success in Nashville as a songwriter, penning songs for Luke Bryan, Dierks Bentley and Tyler Farr, among others. One of Music Row’s hottest young songwriters, Sanders has topped the charts with such No. 1 singles as Cole Swindell’s “Ain’t Worth the Whiskey” and Dustin Lynch’s “Hell of a Night.” He honed his craft hanging out with pals like Swindell, Farr, Jon Pardi, Chase Rice and Florida Georgia Line’s Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley, and became like a younger brother to a group of hit-bound young talents on the cusp of success.Sanders learned how to craft a song that was right in the pocket for country radio. He then embarked on his artist career, quickly earning a reputation as an up and comer to watch as he independently sold over 70,000 singles and scored over 70 million Spotify streams. Yet Sanders admits his early efforts weren’t truly synonymous with who he really is as a person. “I started feeling like a puppet just trying to chase what labels thought I needed to sound like and so I finally just stepped back,” he says. “I’ve found what I’m not and I know what I am. For a while, I tried to run from being country and there’s no way you can take that away from me because it’s the way I grew up. And I never took a guitar lesson. I never took vocal lessons. Everything that I’ve done at this point is through just hard work and dedication.”Self-examination led to Sanders focusing on what is truly important to him and what he wants to say to his growing audience. He started that foundation in his 2018 self-titled, debut EP which peaked at No. 33 on Billboard’s Country Albums chart. In releasing new music in 2019 and now 2020, Adam continues to lay the groundwork for what is destined to be the perfect pendulum swing from the story-telling and twang of the 90’s, to the progressive infectious sound found in today’s Country Music. We want to hear from you! What about a young Christian Gunfighter? That book turned into a series of seven books that won First Place for Best Westen Series in 2015 from Texas Association of Authors. Marty Raybon of Shenandoah joins host Arthur Born this week to discuss the band's first single in 20 years, "Noise"! The guys also go back to talk about some early 80's and 90's Shenandoah hits, Alison Krauss, Garth Brooks and more!
Fueled by Marty Raybon’s distinctive vocals and the band’s skilled musicianship, Shenandoah became well known for delivering such hits as Two Dozen Roses, Church on Cumberland Road and Next To You, Next To Me as well as such achingly beautiful classics as I Want To Be Loved Like That and the Grammy-winning Somewhere In The Vicinity Of The Heart duet with Alison Krauss. Today that legacy continues as original members Raybon and Mike McGuire reunite to launch a new chapter in Shenandoah’s storied career. It all began when the guys got back together to perform a benefit concert for a friend battling cancer. “We saw how folks reacted,” Marty says of the response to their reunion. “And then Jerry Phillips, son of legendary Sun Records producer Sam Phillips, said ‘You guys need to make a run at this. People still love what you do. You can tell by the reaction. There’s a lot of excitement in the air.’” “It’s kind of like riding a bicycle,” McGuire says of the band reigniting that chemistry on stage. “We had done so many shows over the years together, even though we spent 17 years apart, we got back up on the stage and it was like we never stopped. We knew those songs inside out. They were still dear to our hearts. It was great to get back up there and do them together again.”
