This week’s episode takes us back to the early days of Hollywood, and specifically to the mysterious, premature deaths of two top comedic stars. Known as “The Ice Cream Blonde” and “Hot Toddy,” Thelma Todd went from being Miss Massachusetts 1925 to a star of over 100 short and feature films. Her reputation as a comedic actress was followed by a reputation as a partier, and the aftermath of one party in December of 1935 was followed soon after by her death. Ted Healy was an early comedy star and a veteran of the vaudeville circuit. These days, he’s most known for being the creator of the Three Stooges. Two years and a few days after Thelma Todd’s death, Healy passed away under mysterious circumstances as well. And rumor has it, he had been attacked at a party a few days before. A party at Club Trocadero: the same club Thelma Todd had partied at before her death. We explore both stories this week! Also, This Week In Murder looks at a new sentencing in an old drunk driving killing and… death by gender reveal party? And finally, we close with Who Died The Worst! Like what we're doing? In today's show, I start off with a quote by Sheri Dew. Following some very important announcements, I jump straight into the interview with Dr. Lauren Kuhn. Dr. Kuhn is an Endodontist in the Twin Cities of Minnesota. Furthermore, she started advising pre-dental students in 2015 and she's here to talk to us today about “how you can show leadership and stand out while doing it.” Dr. Kuhn is also a contributing author in the book Your Essential Guide to Dental School Admissions. I start the interview off by giving Dr. Kuhn the opportunity to introduce herself, and inform us on what she does both as an Endodontist and pre-dental advisor. After that, we begin an amazing conversation centered around leadership and how you as a pre-dental student can use these insights to stand out on your dental school application. During this discussion, Dr. Kuhn answers 5 key questions that will help you out tremendously in being more prepared as a candidate for dental school. She answers why leadership is so important when considering a career in dentistry. Furthermore, she provides so many wonderful examples on how to engage in leadership displaying activities. For the members of our pre-dental community who might be a few years or so away from applying, she offers incredible advice on how these younger students can still exhibit leadership despite potential restrictions on the availability of roles in clubs, such as pre-dental societies. Dr. Kuhn goes on to provide key insight which would be extremely hard to receive elsewhere in explaining the types of leadership that stands out most to admission committees. We end our conversation on leadership when Dr. Kuhn answers the question about “how students can list their leadership activities without coming across as arrogant or boastful.” To wrap up today's interview, Dr. Kuhn enlightens us on some key principles that helped her not only gain admission into Harvard Dental- but also successfully make it all the way through her residency @ The Medical University of South Carolina. As former Miss Massachusetts and a fourth-runner up in the 2015 Miss America Pageant, Dr. Kuhn emphasizes the importance of standing out through experience. Finally, Dr. Kuhn very willingly lists all the ways that you may contact her if you are interested in learning more about how she has been helping many students gain admission into dental school through the building up of compelling resumes. When it comes to pageants, she still enjoys helping girls prepare for competitions. She also has judged state and local pageants for both Miss USA and Miss America. She is a graduate of Boston University, and a devoted mother to her two boys Jack and James. Welcome Jackie Bruno to Life After the Crown!

Miss Plymouth County made a fool of herself by freaking out and dropping out of the Miss Massachusetts comment over a harmless joke that mentioned #MeToo. She's probably lying about being gang raped too, because she's an attention seeking doofus. Also, Leigha Genduso updates if you haven't been following along with that story.
Rob Bradford is joined by Pitcher Nick (Friar), former boyfriend of Miss Massachusetts, to discuss which free agents the Red Sox should be prioritizing in the coming weeks. Pageant Junkies | Hopelessly Addicted to the Miss America Program
In the pageant world, every time you fall short of your goal, it's easy to see that experience as "a failure". But Taylor Kinzler, Miss Massachusetts 2012 says, "You can't count mistakes or missed opportunities as failures - you have to count them as opportunities to grow." It's so true - No wonder Taylor was Miss Mass OT 2008 and a non-finalist Talent award winner at Miss America! :) Catch her full list of "failures" and how she chose to use those experiences as opportunities to grow, on today's Pageant Junkies Podcast.
Dr. Erika Ebbel Angle is a leading science educator and biochemist. She's also the 2004 winner of the Miss Massachusetts pageant. In this episode, panelists Ken Reid, Christine Cuddy, and Kelly MacFarland try to guess what Erika does and then learn about her work expanding public understanding of science (and what it's like to be the only MIT grad to have ever competed in Miss America). Hosted by Chris Duffy. Technical direction by Kevin Brunswick.
Many young people have underlying heart conditions with no symptoms. In fact, the most common condition that can cause Sudden Cardiac Arrest is Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, or HCM, and as many as 1 in 500 people have this heart condition. ECG's can detect past silent heart attacks in adults that may put them at greater risk for future severe cardiac issues. Michaela Gagne, Miss Massachusetts 2006, competed for the title of Miss America 2007 with her platform titled, Heart Health: Listen, Learn, and Live, because she was diagnosed with a life-threatening heart condition and had undergone surgery for an implantable cardioverter defibrillator at the age of 17. She is currently a national spokesperson for the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women Campaign, and also for SADS (Sudden Arrhythmia Death Syndromes) Foundation, as well as Parent Heart Watch, a group of parents making great strides in legislative and national awareness in memory of the children they have lost to Sudden Cardiac Arrest. Michaela and I will be discussing her life's journey, and her current global mission work with Heartbeat International, an organization that provides surgery and the means for pacemakers, defibrillators, and other devices to be implanted in some of the one million people who are dying every year without these procedures. Please call 347.327.9995 on Tuesday February 8th from 10-11 am U.S. CT to listen to Machaela and I talk about how we can all help in raising awareness about this intimate affair with our heart!
