We continue our deep dives into popular lore and examining multiple iterations of the Jungle Book. In this episode we compare the three Disney interpretations of the Jungle Book with the 1967 animated film, the 1994 live action film, and the 2016 computer graphic edition along with the 2018 Netflix release Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle. As we examine these drastically different depictions of Rudyard Kipling’s classic tale of a boy raised in the jungle, we question where the line should be drawn between too jovial of a tale and too dark of a journey Mowgli takes as he finds his true home. RR134 (Tardy)Friday Film Review: Mowgli Legend of the Jungle Warning: Spoilers Maybe its the migraine medication. Maybe it's what comes along with migraines but this movie did not blow my skirt up. It is dark...darker than the trailer alludes. It has it's attributes and moments. But this is not for children so it's a good thing it was labeled PG-13. I am not so sure that young teens would like it either through. Listen to my spin on this spin of a classic tale. Mowgli (Rohan Chand) has never truly belonged in either the wilds of the jungle or the civilized world of man. Now he must navigate the inherent dangers of each on a journey to discover where he truly belongs. Netflix's "Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle" is a visually spectacular and emotionally moving adventure.

News Talk 94.1 — Binge Or Cringe is about The Guernsey Literary Potato Peel Pie Society & Mowgli on Netflix. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, a quiet film, beautifully done, with faces you'll recognize. It's all about how a book and the need for community helped people through WW II. Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle, directed by Andy Serkis, is a lush telling of the Rudyard Kipling tale with voices supplied by Benedict Cumberbatch, Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, and young teen actor Rohan Chand. It's extremely well done but for some, the biggest complaint is that, due to the way it was filmed, the main animal characters' faces seemed to be "too human."
This week we're taking on "the other" Jungle Book movie. We were supposed to get it two years ago but, wisely, they decided not to compete with Disney's version. Now that it's finally here, we talk about what went wrong and how it holds up. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
