Martina Navratilova is one of the world's greatest ever tennis players. She won a record-breaking 59 Grand Slam titles, including 18 singles titles, 31 doubles titles, and 10 mixed doubles titles. She was also one of the first openly lesbian professional athletes to come out publicly in the U.S. and has been an advocate for lesbian and gay rights. When it comes to the trans debate, Navratilova has always been clear, calling it ‘cheating' to allow transgender women to compete in women's sports due to the unfair physical advantages. She has admitted that the online backlash from transgender activists has been “pretty rough” and claimed she had been “jettisoned” by many LGBT groups for her opinions on Trans women in sports. Despite Navratilova's opinions, she has previously stated she is “all for trans rights on a civil level”, and her view is based purely on maintaining sporting integrity. In this special episode of The Daily T, Martina Navratilova joins Camilla and Kamal to discuss last week's landmark Supreme Court verdict and what it means for the sport in this country and around the world. And as Pope Francis's funeral is set to take place this weekend, we speak to the former editor of The Tablet, Catherine Pepinster, about who is likely to take his place as the Vatican begins the secret process of choosing the new Pope. Jim and Greg serve up all good martinis on 3 Martini Lunch as they break down President Trump's executive order banning men from women's sports, Attorney General Pam Bondi cutting off funding for sanctuary cities, and Democrats' electoral shenanigans backfiring in multiple states.First, they cheer Trump for signing an executive order to keep men out of women's sports, regardless of how those men "identify." They highlight America's overwhelming support for the move despite years of media narratives suggesting otherwise. They also note that even left-wing figures like tennis legend Martina Navratilova admit Democrats just handed Trump a major campaign weapon for 2024.Next, they applaud U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi for cutting off Justice Department funding to self-proclaimed sanctuary cities. Jim compares this to the transgender sports debate, emphasizing that the left ignores just how strongly Americans want criminal illegals out of the country and illegal immigration to stop. Finally, they take satisfaction in Democrats' political stunts likely failing in Minnesota and New York. In Minnesota, Democrats stalled state house business because Republicans temporarily hold a one-seat majority, but after weeks of dysfunction, a power-sharing agreement is finally taking shape. Meanwhile, New York Democrats appear to be retreating from an effort to delay a special election to replace GOP Rep. Elise Stefanik, which would have prolonged the razor-thin Republican majority in the U.S. HousePlease visit our great sponsors:Betterhelphttps://BetterHelp.com/3MLDiscover your relationship green flags and get 10% off your first month at BetterHelp.com/3MLNetsuitehttps://NetSuite.com/MARTINISee what is next for your business with the CFO's Guide to AI and Machine Learning free when you go to NetSuite.com/MARTINI. Season 3 of the TennisWorthy Podcast is here, just in time for the Australian swing and welcomes a new host in ITHF President and ESPN commentator Patrick McEnroe. Patrick and Chris Bowers bring two stories from Hall of Famers Hana Mandlíková and Pete Sampras. In reliving two key moments from their careers, Mandlíková and Sampras focus on their mental resilience and tenacity in overcoming challenges. Mandlíková, once seen as a natural rival to Martina Navratilova, became a Czech national hero, winning major titles like the Australian Open and Roland Garros. However, she struggled to break through the dominance of Navratilova and Chris Evert in the mid-80s. After improving her fitness and mentality, Mandlíková triumphed at the 1985 US Open, defeating both Evert and Navratilova, with the unexpected help of a Tina Turner anthem.Sampras, on the other hand, learned a crucial lesson about perseverance after his loss to Stefan Edberg in the 1992 US Open final. This experience drove him to dedicate himself fully to the sport, which eventually led to his success, including his 1996 US Open victory. He shares how he battled both illness and subpar play to outlast Alex Corretja in four hours and nine minutes in the quarterfinal.Stay tuned later in January as Patrick brings listeners more stories from the Australian Open. Hana Mandlíková was, according to Bud Collins, “the least understood player of her generation.” A 4-time major champion, Hana was “some whimsical genius,” the presumed successor to the Evert-Navratilova reign, and at times she sure did make their lives difficult. But let's dispense with the “next” whoever and the what ifs – Hana on her own is a fascinating figure, an explosive talent with a creative, athletic, and captivating serve-and-volley game. With the help of Hana's memoir and contemporary accounts, we learn what it was like to be an internationally recognized athlete playing for a strict Communist government shaken by the defection of Martina Navratilova and other major athletes. We interrogate a bit about why Czech(oslovakia) has produced such a deep bench of tennis talent since the early 20th century. Hana Mandlíková is one of its greatest exports: a gifted, straight-talking tennis wunderkind who we hope is becoming both more understood and more appreciated. 4:40 You can't argue with the résumé 11:00 A very quick history of Czechoslovakian tennis 21:00 Hana's origins and the Prague Spring 27:45 Life as an Eastern Bloc athlete abroad; and Martina's defection 35:40 1980: the jump off 39:00 Excitement builds around Mandlíková: those pesky “next Navratilova” proclamations 49:15 Big chat: Hana's mouth gets her in trouble 55:20 1985 US Open: The crowning achievement 60:55 No what ifs 68:15 Hana & Jana 71:50 Learnings

Mi raccomando!TRANSLATIONLet's take a quiz, tell me who has scored the most goals in international soccer competitions. I allow you to search on internet, indeed I invite you to use Google to find out who has scored the most goals in international football matches. You will see that Google tells you it was Cristiano Ronaldo with 118 goals. But this doesn't correspond to reality, because if you go and look deeper, you discover that there is someone who has scored 190 goals, and this someone is Christine Sinclair, a woman. What happen? It happens that too often, let's say in the vast majority of cases, when looking for sports records, search engines are partial to the results obtained by male athletes, even if there are many cases in which female athletes have achieved best results. I'll give you another example: if I ask you who has won Wimbledon the most times, you'll tell me it's Roger Federer who has won it 8 times and you'll be wrong because Martina Navratilova won it 9 times. I'll give you another example of tennis, which is one of the few sports I follow, who has been number one in the world ranking of tennis players several times, for longer, for more weeks? Novak Djokovic was there 373 weeks, but that's not the right answer, because Steffi Graf was there 377 weeks. Why is this happening? Because search engines work animated by algorithms created by human beings. And human beings in these positions are often male, and in any case the sport played by women is considered second-class compared to that played by men. Just think of the coverage of women's football compared to that of men's football.But... Excellent news, there is someone who wants to correct this and it is an organization called Correct The Internet, it is a site (whose address I will put in the program notes), where there are a lot of records made by female athletes which however are ignored by search engines and the site gives us very few steps to follow, very simple to do, where you can copy and paste feedback to search engines, because each search engine has a little button at the end where it says 'feedback' and we can give the correct answer and say no, look at Google, you're wrong, it's not like that, there's this female athlete who is much better than the male athlete. Come on, let's do it!

Question: Do parenting & society's use of problematic philosophy & bad theology prevent personal growth & perpetuate resentment/estrangement in kids as they grow up to be adults? Today's episode is quite powerful, ethnographic and esoteric, entitled “I could've been a Usain Bolt or like a Serena Williams but….” The episode features my twin brother Ricardo Mckenzie and Co-Producer/host Donte Nelson and of course Renaldo McKenzie, Your host. We went deep looking at issues of success as it is affected by ineffective parenting and society; raising and exploring the question: how poverty/parenting/society's institutions use of problematic philosophy and bad theology prevent personal growth and perpetuate estrangement and resentment in children as they grow up. Further, we considered the fact that we were twins but different in our own way and that life is about strategy but that many persons are devoid of that knowledge. We came to the conclusion that we should let kids find their own path; driving home the point that just as teaching must facilitate the uniqueness of students in the learning process, parenting must also account for that uniqueness within the growing process of every child and parents must understand and parent with that mindset. Moreover, we explored the issue of risk-taking saying that risk-taking is not one of some people's traits (certain communities or families traits) and examined how that maybe a consequence of poverty and the cyclical histories people find themselves and poor education and limited opportunities and connections or lack in society in Jamaica and our peoples and we will touch on that one as we talk about bad theology by exposing this particular text of biblical pericope “train up a child in the way that they should go so that when they order should not depart” but the interpretation of the scripture amongst many many many evangelical Christians Caribbean people the family is “train up a child the way that you want them to grow,” and but parenting must adjust their skills to facilitate the child's uniqueness so as to allow the child to become successful in his or her own growth and development. We repeated this several times indicating that parents keep down their children's growth because of bad theology and kids walk away with resentment. We also lift up the fact that there are is also the situation where there's just one parent and the children have to grow up struggling to survive missing out on their childhood and ultimately their dreams. In deed, the discussions on this episode was powerful and quite insightful as we delve into so issues of human value and ethics from an interdisciplinary lenses; lifting up matters to deal with parenting, sports, race, economics, life and learning and how society impedes dreams and perpetuate resentment. But the strongest take aways and points from our discussions is this point that: our parents thwarted our athletic prowess and dreams and 2. That post-colonialism provided new freedoms that was met with dogmas and rules and the the bureaucratic phenomenon. The topics we raised while contending for these and other matters were: Coco Gaugh, Serena and Venus Williams Mbape, Margaret Court, Billi Jean King, Chris Evert, Navratilova, Steffi Graph and the issue of Race, difference of expectations and how media is changing this. Undoubtedly, you can't afford to miss this episode, it's compact, ethnographic and esoteric! Welcome back to the Bill Bradley Collective, where it is seasonal profile week as we present a deep dive on the lives of and rivalry between tennis greats Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert. Two of the greatest to ever pick up a racket, male or female, Navratilova and Evert each re-wrote the record book during their era and the only one stopping each of them from greater success was the other. As their careers largely intersect one another, the on-court rivalry between the two is one of the greatest across gender or sport. Join us as we examine the rivalry and the women behind it. Contrasting public images, physical appearances and on-court playing styles belie a rivalry perhaps best remembered for the class and sportsmanship of the combatants and the enduring friendship that it helped create. While we celebrate both Evert and Navratilova for their achievements both on- and off-court, it is a conversation about a relationship not without some controversy, as both of our subjects have recently made public statements regarding the competitive rights of trans-gender athletes. Catalysts for a tennis boom in the 1970's and 80's, Evert and Navratilova represented themselves and their sport with dignity and grace, while many of their male contemporaries were better known for their boorish and outspoken personalities. The professional rivalry and personal relationship between Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova is a lengthy chapter in the history of women in sports, and that chapter is examined this week on the Bill Bradley Collective.

With longevity comes records, such as the distinction of having spent 18 conservative years in the top 100 (the longest ever continuous span by a female player who wasn't able to reach the top 10 - she made it to #13) OR having made 71 grand slam appearances - including 20 straight US Open events (a record before Venus Williams made this her latest achievement). Amy's stellar career included 8 WTA titles, 30 wins against top 10 champions including: Navratilova, Henin, Hingis and Seles as well as being the official WTA trivia answer to the question “who was the last player to ever play legend, Steffi Graf before her sudden retirement?” Join host Jon Guerrica as we spotlight a career of a player that wasn't fully recognized for what she was able to achieve during her amazing flat groundstroke striking career. Republican Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee said Wednesday that transgender girls should be banned from playing on middle and high school sports teams or they will “destroy women's sports.” “When transgender athletes compete against women, women's sports are no longer women's sports; they become unisex athletic events,” Utah Representative Mike Lee has said in a statement. Tennis star Martina Navratilova opposes "an all-inclusive situation where trans men and women, just based on their self I.D., would be able to compete with no mitigation, no rules outside of that whatsever. And that clearly would not be a level playing field." Navratilova was among those who launched the Women's Sports Policy Working Group on Tuesday to work for a "science-based, ethical approach" to "establish a middle ground that both protects girls' and women's sport and accommodates transgender athletes." Nikki Haley has declared about transgender teens in sports: "If this trend isn't stopped, the achievements of so many brave women over so many years will be erased." A recent article in the LGBTQ publication The LA Blade, that explained the facts and reasonable approaches was met with disdain by some fighting for transgender rights. As this issue heats up, and conservative forces are hellbent that it will heat up, what is the rational arguement going to be? Today we talk to our resident analyst Brynn Tannehill, Author of Everything You Want to Know About Being Trans But Were Afraid to Ask , and Brody Levesque, editor of the LA Blade.

Martina Navratilova is one of the greatest woman tennis players of all time. During her career, she won an astounding 59 Grand Slam titles. She's in the Hall of Fame, but if there were a tennis Mt. Rushmore, she'd be on it. And if there were a gay Mount Rushmore, she'd be on that one too. She was one of the first world-class athletes to come out as gay, all the way back in 1981, long before it was common, much less fashionable, to do so. Despite that resume, Athlete Ally, an LGBT athletic group, removed her from their advisory board and have publicly disassociated from her. Why? Because though she has long represented the “L” in the LGBT acronym, she offended the “T.” In a recent column in the Times of London, Navratilova wrote that allowing male athletes who identify as transgender to compete against biological women is “insane.” This was not the first time she had expressed such an opinion. Last December, she found herself in hot water when she tweeted that “You can't just proclaim yourself a female and be able to compete against women . . . There must be some standards and having [male genitalia] and competing as a woman would not fit that standard.” The backlash was swift and harsh. In response, Navratilova said that she would take some time to research and rethink the issue. Her views were, in her words, “only strengthened.” As she wrote, “To put the argument at its most basic: a man can decide to be female, take hormones if required by whatever sporting organization is concerned, win everything in sight and perhaps earn a small fortune, and then reverse his decision and go back to making babies if he so desires.” Obviously, that wasn't the sort of “rethinking” her critics expected. But then again, they weren't really hoping she'd think. They were demanding ideological conformity. At a deeper level, this story reveals our society's embrace of a particularly unworkable variety of identity politics. There are many definitions of “identity politics,” but they all boil down to the idea that the only thing that matters, especially in politics, is the experience of oppression shared by all those who share some identifying marker—like race, gender, sexual orientation/gender identity, etc. In the identity politics way of keeping score of cultural grievances, everyone's experience of “oppression” is deemed equally valid and horrific, even if it isn't. Now, add to identity politics the idea of “intersectionality.” Intersectionality attempts to pile identities and their oppressive experiences on top of one another. Someone with multiple identity markers can claim degrees of intersectionality and therefore their own special kinds of oppression: For instance, a person might be an Afro-Latina lesbian female. Or a Filipino trans. The fuzzy math at work here makes the possibility of conflict almost unlimited, an especially acute possibility in the growing acronym of LGBT. The only thing members of this coalition have in common is that they are not heterosexual. A core tactic of transgender ideology has been to blur and deny any differences between the various letters in that acronym, all while hijacking the narrative of oppression. In the process, they deny all differences between women and men—from strength to traits to the very existence of sex and gender altogether. Well, Martina Navratilova knows better. She understands the difference between the female body and the male body. She knows that there's more to being a woman than simply identifying as one. But, saying it out loud makes her persona non grata. To be precise, she's now known as a TERF, a “trans-exclusionary radical feminist,” a name that is every bit as insane and unfair as allowing men to compete in women's sports. But this is where a hyper post-modern, feelings-and identity-driven worldview leads us: not to fairness. Not to overcoming oppression. Only to insanity. http://www.breakpoint.org/2019/02/breakpoint-navratilova-identity-politics-and-intersectionality/
