John and Craig welcome Brian Jordan Alvarez & Stephanie Koenig (English Teacher) and Jac Schaeffer (Agatha All Along, WandaVision) to join them for a live holiday benefit for Hollywood HEART. They discuss constructing Agatha All Along from blue sky to the Witches' Road, “protagonizing” a villain, breaking in through YouTube and maintaining a working relationship with your best friend. We also play a new game, the Christmas Song Three Word Challenge, with former Scriptnotes producers Megan McDonnell (Dark Matter, The Marvels) and Megana Rao (Unstable). In our bonus segment for premium members, we answer an all-star round of audience questions in maybe the best Q&A we've ever had. Thanks to our fantastic audience, everyone at Dynasty Typewriter, and Hollywood HEART for putting the event together. John and Craig look at how writers (and other humans) handle the anxiety of uncertainty, from election nights to green lights. We'll talk through strategies for navigating situations where your circle of concern doesn't match your circle of control. Then we travel back to the 1980s and 90s, when many studios were run by ambitious strivers in their late 20s and early 30s. As the decades have passed, the players in these positions have held onto their posts, leaving the next generation stuck mid-ladder. We discuss what impact the aging of Hollywood has had on its output, and where the new guard might find an opening. We also ask, is development wage theft? And answer listener questions on reusing material written for a different project, and the cost-plus model of production. And in our bonus topic for premium members, what aspects of pandemic life have we incorporated into our daily routines? Links: Scriptnotes LIVE! John welcomes writer-director Betsy Thomas (Superior Donuts, Superstore) to finally discuss writing multi-camera sitcoms. Using famous sitcom scripts as guides, they look at how multi-cam sets itself apart through its unique formatting and production, how it utilizes blocking, its surprising limitations in post, and the live studio audience. But Betsy is more than just a talented creative – she's also the secretary-treasurer of the WGA West. Who better to lead us through the WGA annual report and look at writer income and residuals in the wake of the strike? We also follow up on gains for writing teams and un-locked pages, and answer listener questions on flashbacks, punctation, and untrustworthy producers. #BlackLivesMatter Where do we even start? We're living in unprecedented times. And while I'm so glad this is being addressed right now (because let's face it, if we aren't all free and equal, none of us are), I also know how overwhelming it can feel as we realize how oblivious we've been. With protests all over the world waking up more people than ever, I bet you're wondering how you can start helping Black Folx right now. I had that same question, so I started to educate myself and that's what has inspired this episode. I wanted to openly share resources, tell y'all what I'm doing, how I'm learning and (hopefully) be an example for those among us who have had the privilege to snooze along until very recently. I realize I'm not perfect and I'm gonna mess up, but as a White woman with a platform, my aim is to amplify melanated voices, now and in the future, more than ever. Episode 9: Freedom in Sexuality Sex. We are taught to fear it, be good at it, control it, protect it, and for many of us hide it. Our convoluted view of Sexuality is a combination of Sex Talks given by parents, pastors, friends, and society. But for most of us our first beliefs about sex can be summed up by Coach Carr from Mean Girls: “Don't have sex, because you will get pregnant and die!” Needless to say, Sex can be a bit of a touchy subject. And it gets so much more confusing as we get older! Because now that we've figured out we won't actually die from having Sex, we are faced with insecurities, shame, and feelings of inadequacy when we get in the sheets with a partner or ourselves. So how do we heal our sexuality and begin to see if as a source of pleasure and connection? Today, we hold the mic up to a very vulnerable conversation about our own journey with Sexuality. Episode Notes: -Guided breath work with Laura -Guided meditation with Victoria -What we were taught about sex -Ways we use Control in Sexuality -Desire for connection through sex. -Tinder/Bumble and all the dating Apps -Laura's story of meeting her boyfriend on Tinder -Process of being friends before dating -Balancing the feminine/masculine in sexuality -How we can see space in relationships as a gift -Different types of connection within relationships -Managing your own sexuality within relationships -Managing the Ego in Sexuality -Energetic opportunity in regards to Valentines Day -Checking in with yourself on your own sexuality -Manifesting with Sexuality Resources Mentioned: -The goop Lab: The Pleasure is Ours (Available on Netflix) -Get your free birth chart https://astro.cafeastrology.com/natal.php Please remember to subscribe, rate, review the podcast on iTunes. At long last, we spend an entire episode on the oft-mentioned Gilmore Girls! We discuss two landmark episodes that fans hold dear and try to determine which one is THE BEST. We cover the infamous Jess-Dean-Rory Triangle, we offer some hot takes on Lorelei's love interests, we call Jackson Bellville out for his crimes against womanhood, and we once again swoon over Lane Kim and Dave Rygalski. Happy Thanksgiving! Also, happy Friendsgiving! We've decided to take that idea very literally this year, with the competition for the best Thanksgiving Friends episode. We've got a ton of Gellar mania, as well as a mistreated trifle and a dash of gross male behavior. It's Friendsgiving! It's no secret that we both love to travel and explore new places but neither of us have the money or time to just drop everything and explore somewhere new whenever we fancy it. We're both advocates of the fact that whilst being able to travel is a privilege it doesn't have to be as expensive as you first think. If you're willing to invest a little bit of time, plan things through and make a couple of compromises you can cut the cost of any trip down. In this episode we're sharing our best tips of how to reduce costs and how we manage to afford to travel with all of life's other expenses.Recommendations Candy KittensAvengers: End Game List of Avengers movies you need to watch here (spoilers for older films if you read the details so just scroll through the titles!)List of times where you can take a toilet break during the film here (no spoilers)Yin Yoga with Boho BeautifulHomecoming on Netflix Get in touch20sarehard@gmail.com@20sarehard@helenabradbury @charlotte.phoebe

This week we interviewed Chris Whitcomb about the process it took to become an actor! Chris is a current student at Central Connecticut State University, an aspiring actor who will have 2 credits under his name coming this fall, rapper/producer on Soundcloud, AND he still finds time to work to pay the bills! When you first talk and listen to Chris, you'll most likely take him for a high energy, goofy, fun guy to be around; although this is true, he is also a man about his grind and artwork! He technically has his BFA Has his own IMDb profile Besides acting/rapping he also has a job as a waiter Uses his job to practice his acting and improv skills to his guests Very humble, but don't let that make you think he doesn't work hard. Coming from 0 background in acting he will be making his second appearance in a movie come this fall. He is only 21! This is the seventh - and final - episode in the "Be The Good, See the Good" Series. Today we wrap up how the uniqueness in each of us strengthens all of us, and how we can work in our strengths and recognize that in others. “It’s been my experience that you can nearly always enjoy things if you make up your mind firmly that you will.” L.M Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables Anne with an “E” on Netflix Get a month free by going to www.Audible.com/namaste Here is the Anne of Green Gables on Audible we are listening to right now 10 Essential Lessons for Life: Empathy People sometimes have lives that are created in reaction to the pain they have experienced in their own lives. How can you look for - and create - the world in which you thrive? We aren’t looking for a band-aid approach or viewpoint on life. What is the deeper story that may be causing the pain and/or reaction? We need to have grace and compassion for one another - we are all humans, and we all have those not-so-great moments of parenting, and just being! We have the choice to step out of our reaction and choose how we are going to move forward. We don’t get it right every time, but that doesn’t mean we’ve failed forever. “The last thing we need in the midst of our struggle is shame for being human.” -Brené Brown If you want to dig deeper into learning more about your unique personality style, here are some resources for you: Join the Mama Says Namaste FaceBook Group The Mama Says Namaste Podcast on YouTube Personality Profiles (soon to be renamed “family portraits” - the Inner Lion Session here is switching to “Family Portrait Session” and is my first step for any coaching package).
