She discusses the importance of framing our experiences consciously, challenging limiting beliefs, and practicing new narratives to foster personal growth. Through personal anecdotes and reflective questions, Laura encourages listeners to embrace change, navigate setbacks, and cultivate a mindset that empowers them to see life as a series of opportunities rather than obstacles. Takeaways * Attitude is a game changer in living a conscious + attuned life. * We create our own stories and can choose which to keep. * Our identity is shaped by our attitudes and beliefs. * Framing experiences in an empowering way can lead to growth. * Life events can be seen as either endings or beginnings. * We often absorb limiting beliefs from our environment. * Challenging our truths can lead to personal growth. * Practicing new narratives can shift our mindset. * Self-discovery is a journey that requires reflection. * Our identity is not fixed; it can be changed at any time. Chapters 00:00 The Power of Attitude 04:13 Framing Our Experiences 07:27 Shifting Perspectives on Identity 10:17 Embracing Change and Expansion 13:31 The Role of Beliefs in Our Lives 16:28 Challenging Limiting Beliefs 19:23 Creating a New Narrative 22:18 Practical Steps for Attitude Shift 25:17 Wrap-Up and Key Takeaways Listener Reflection Questions 1️⃣ What is a belief you've been carrying about yourself (your abilities, relationships, career, money, etc.) that might not actually be true? Where did this belief come from? Is it based on facts, or is it just an old story you've reinforced over time? 2️⃣ Think about a recent challenge or setback—how did you frame it? Did you see it as a failure, or as redirection? If you rewrote the story, how could this situation actually be working for you? 3️⃣ What is one small way you can start practicing a shift in attitude today? Maybe it's catching negative self-talk. Maybe it's reinterpreting a ‘bad' moment as an opportunity. Maybe it's choosing a new way to respond to setbacks. “If any of these hit home, DM me or tag me and share your insights—I'd love to hear what comes up for you.” Ways To Work With Me: 1. Oral health isn't just about teeth—it's deeply connected to overall wellness. Many childhood habits, from breathing patterns to nutrition, play a crucial role in dental development and long-term health. The OWNER framework (Oxygen, Water, Nutrition, Enough Sleep, and Respect) offers a holistic approach to keeping your child's oral health on track. By recognising early warning signs and making small, consistent changes, parents can support proper jaw development, airway health, and overall well-being. Key Takeaways-Nasal breathing is essential—Mouth breathing can impact jaw development, sleep quality, and overall health.-Hydration matters—Drinking enough water promotes saliva production, helping neutralise acids and wash away bacteria.-Nutrition influences oral health—Alkaline-rich, whole foods support a balanced pH and proper jaw muscle function.-Early signs of issues—Mouth breathing, restless sleep, crowded teeth, and frequent cavities could indicate deeper concerns.-Myofunctional exercises can help—Simple activities like tongue placement exercises and “fish face” strengthen oral muscles.-Daily habits make a difference—From limiting screen time to choosing the right snacks, small changes can support healthy oral development.-Parental modelling is key—Kids learn best when parents practise good habits themselves. We chat with Charlie (CBSpears), creator of Blockspace Media and a Bitcoin OG about the current state of the Bitcoin ecosystem. We ask him about how he has perceived the Bitcoin culture's evolution within the space as he has been a participant pre and post Ordinals. Charlie views Bitcoin as not only being in a price discovery phase but also in a narrative discovery phase as Bitcoin is becoming more complex and dynamic than what it originally was. With memes overtaking overall crypto market sentiment and Murad acting as a driving force for this sectors growth, we ask Charlie how he views this sector interplaying with Bitcoin and the ecosystem brewing within it. We discuss the existential miner subsidy crisis not many are openly discussing, which could pose future risks if more awareness and careful diligence isn't directed toward solving the impending issue. With Charlie's background and expert knowledge of the Bitcoin mining industry we propose to him the $NAT token miner subsidy model. He gives his honest interpretation as to whether it is a good idea to help miners discover new verticals of long term sustainability. Overall Charlie views DMT and other metaprotocol experiments as too early to tell whether they will be main contributors to Bitcoin in the long term. What do zillenials want? What do they seek? How do they think about wine and what can the industry do about this? In this third episode of New Consumers, New Narratives, we meet Honore Comfort, the vice president of international marketing at the Wine institute, the collective body representing the Californian wine trade. In 2024, the wine institute commissioned a big study aiming to understand the minds of the zillenials – the clever contraction of Gen Z-at least the ones that are old enough to legally drink +millennials. While acknowledging that this cohort is diverse, the study focused on understanding the key points making this demographic so different from other age groups and how these differences impact the way they see – and think about wine. In this week's podcast, Jennifer Richmond and Winkfield Twyman, Jr. talk with Pastor Dumisani Washington on his journey through his early years, his “God Walk” in Africa, a name change, and finally to Israel. The crux of our conversation centers on how he relates the African story to that of Israel and in particular to the current Israeli-Palestine conflict. Dumisani takes us deep into the KGB propaganda of the 1960s that created the illusion of black solidarity with Palestine, playing on settler-colonial themes and tying them to stories of Jim Crow. This propaganda underlines the current affinity between Black Lives Matter and Pro-Palestinian movements that we see playing out in the United States. But as you will hear, Dumisani speaks truths that unveil this disinformation, taking the co-hosts on an unexpected history lesson that spans the globe, and underlines our common humanity. [Original airdate 6/4/24] Mary chats with author and apologist team Richard and Linda Nathan, who met in San Francisco in 1962, lived through the Sixties, and spent many years together in New Age mysticism before becoming Christians in 1976. Since then, they have taught numerous seminars and classes on discerning our times. They have authored the Omega Point Series of books, Lighthouse Trails booklets “The Cross and the Marijuana Leaf” and “Psychedelic Seduction: Drugging the World and the Church” which we explore in depth today, and have contributed a chapter in the Lighthouse book “A New Narrative for a New World”, a glossary of New Age Terms”. We take on as much as we can in an hour, from the culture of Big Pot which is bigger than ever - and creeping into the church at large. What is THC, CBD and what alarm bells should be going off? An endless source of "boomer humor", pot today bears little resemblance to the '50s-'70s version. We also discuss psychedelics, particularly the "plant-based" type that is so hip these days, but is the same old illicit drug that destroys minds and hearts, no matter what the celebrity sports figures say. “So if our narrative understood that it's emotional and cognitive and physical and spiritual and relational, how might we attend to ourselves differently? How might we attend to other people in our lives differently? How, if we believed it as a culture, would we institute policies and systems that attended to grief differently?” - Lisa Keefauver In this episode, we talk with Lisa Keefauver, grief activist, author and podcast host of “Grief is a Sneaky Bitch,” about grief as a multidimensional experience that encompasses more than death and more than our emotions. With compelling insight, compassionate warmth, the truth of her own lived experience and her background as a narrative therapist, Lisa shines a light on some of the stories, beliefs and habits that cause us more suffering as we grieve — while also offering tips and suggestions to help soften grief's hard edges. She talks about the vulnerability and bravery of inviting in support and candidly shares her own struggles with receiving care. In fact, Lisa is nothing but candid throughout this entire episode, as she reflects on grieving and being grateful for her late husband Eric, her journey with breast cancer and what grief has taught her about living a fuller, richer life. Other professional endeavors have involved collaborations with Grammy-winning bands, non-profits, startups, and healthcare companies, as well as his personal projects as a screenwriter, actor, and director (credited in film as William Price, III). Friendship has provided a fertile ground for creative endeavors throughout Billy's career. Many of his proudest professional accomplishments, from building an iPhone app to producing and directing film work, have been collaborative efforts with cherished friends he would just as readily spend a celebratory Sunday afternoon with. Billy's commitment to creativity in the context of bondedness bears itself out in his approach to the Film Lab, a collaboration with Justice Film Festival where participants celebrate the power of transformative, nonviolent storytelling together. His vision for the film lab is to cultivate a community of filmmakers dedicated to justice and peace and innervate an uprising of films from diverse and mutually empowering voices.
Series: Labor Day Special Episode 2 Episode Description: “If we were smart as a country, we would look at all of these immigrants that are new citizens of the United States, and look at all of these food production methods and skills that they bring. We would have better food security by including the immigrant farmers in the decision-making on how food production is going to be developed for the future is hitting us really hard with climate change.” —Rosalinda Guillen Farming is the backbone of our communities, yet too often, the hard-working men and women who toil in the fields are overlooked and undervalued. But a growing movement is changing that narrative, empowering farmers to take the reins and shape a more sustainable, equitable food system. Community to Community (C2C), founded by Rosalinda Guillen, is a pioneering organization that empowers farm workers and immigrant communities to lead the charge in building a more sustainable, equitable, and community-driven food system. In this episode, Justine and Rosalinda discuss the challenges and barriers in organizing farm workers, the integration of immigrant farmers' practices, the vision for community farms and food security, the role of regenerative agriculture in addressing climate change, and Rosalinda's hopes for the future of empowering farmers and transforming the food system. Connect with Rosalinda: Rosalinda Guillen (she/hers) is the founder of Community to Community and a lead strategist and visionary within the non-hierarchical ecofeminist leadership of C2C. Her perspective is fundamentally influenced by her introduction to the multi-racial, working-class community organizing model of the Rainbow Coalition, the Cesar Chavez house meeting model, The World Social Forum, the Landless Workers Movement (MST) of Brazil and growing up a farmworker in La Conner, WA. Rosalinda has organized farmworkers in WA State and the strawberry fields of Salinas CA. She has represented farmworkers in the Legislatures of California and Washington State and in ongoing policy and Movement dialogues on immigration issues, climate change, labor rights, trade agreements, ecofeminism, and strengthening the food sovereignty movement towards a Solidarity Economy. In this episode of Art Heals All Wounds, I'm thinking about the transformative power of storytelling. The stories that we tell ourselves shape our actions and decisions. One of the most powerful ways we can move forward is recognizing when a story no longer serves us. The artists in this season are creating new narratives to combat climate change and protect the environment, helping us move from despair to action. If you're an artist creating work about climate and the environment, please get in touch through my website. Introduction Welcome back, gorgeous! By the time you listen to this, I'll be in Turek, Poland, celebrating a family wedding. As excited as I am about this trip, I want to share something equally important with you—how to let go of the disappointment that often follows unsuccessful IVF and infertility treatments. If you're struggling with feelings of failure or sadness because you couldn't have children after all your efforts, this episode is for you. Free Webinar: How to Handle Awkward Questions About Kids Before we dive in, I want to remind you about a free webinar I'm hosting on September 10th at 6 PM Central Time. This class is designed to help you navigate those awkward and painful moments when someone asks, “Do you have kids?” We'll discuss how to respond with confidence and self-compassion. If you can't attend live, you'll receive a replay—just make sure to register here. Understanding the Root of Disappointment After IVF In this episode, we explore how disappointment often stems from self-judgment. When you've tried everything to become a mother and it hasn't worked out, it's easy to feel like you've let yourself and others down. But is this disappointment truly warranted? We'll discuss how to reframe these feelings and stop allowing them to define your self-worth. Why Disappointment Feels So Overwhelming Feeling disappointed in yourself can be exponentially more painful than being disappointed in others. We talk about why these emotions can be so powerful and how they often keep us from trying new things out of fear that we won't meet our expectations. Learn how to quiet the loud voice of disappointment and take steps toward self-forgiveness. Creating a New Narrative for Yourself Living a life of disappointment is not something you signed up for, and it's certainly not something you deserve. We'll explore how to create a new narrative—one where you're not defined by your ability to have children, but by your strength, resilience, and the meaningful life you can still build. This is a crucial part of the work we do in the Thrive After Infertility Mastermind. Letting Go of Perfectionism and Embracing Acceptance Many women who undergo fertility treatments are high achievers, accustomed to setting goals and reaching them. When motherhood isn't one of those achievements, it's easy to feel like a failure. In this episode, I discuss how to let go of the perfectionism that might be holding you back and embrace acceptance and self-compassion instead. Personal Stories of Disappointment and Healing I share my own journey with disappointment—how I felt like I let down my family, my husband's family, and myself. We'll talk about the healing power of realizing that you are not a disappointment and that it's okay to let go of these negative emotions. Mary chats with author and apologist team Richard and Linda Nathan, who met in San Francisco in 1962, lived through the Sixties, and spent many years together in New Age mysticism before becoming Christians in 1976. Israel is not telling the narrative about Hizbullah, which has dropped off the Western world radar decades ago, and the country needs to refit its messaging if it intends to deal with Hizbullah because every Israeli deserves the right to live in peace and security in their country. This according to Cliff Sobin, an author of three books on Hizbullah and Israel. He told reporter Arieh O'Sullivan that messaging needs to grab attention, be emotional and be informative. So far, Israel isn't delivering this, even to its own people. (photo: Alma) See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
It's the 4th annual International Donor Conception Awareness Day and in line with the theme, "Valuing the Voices of Donor Conceived People" I welcome Lindsay again, a donor-conceived individual, to share her profound story of self-discovery and conception. Lindsay talks about her journey and the transformation in her perspective over time. Lindsay's story serves as a prominent example of the shifting dynamics in the discourse around donor parents and donor-conceived individuals and it defines the essence of our conversation. Follow Lindsay's narrative as she ventures through years of uncertainty, exploration and affirmation, grappling with complex emotions and a deep-set longing for her biological roots. Throughout her journey, Lindsay confronts ethical boundaries, familial tensions and sweeping revelations, all stemming from the simple yet profound fact of her donor conception. The conversation touches on how Lindsay discovered she was donor-conceived, her experience navigating the terrain of sibling discoveries, and her encounter with a 'public eye' biological parent who won't acknowledge her. Lindsay's story adds another layer of truth to the unspoken narratives of donor-conceived individuals, highlighting their quiet struggles and the need for donor conception education and transparency. Tune in for what promises to be a thought-provoking discussion. From unequal power dynamics in the fertility industry to the concept of genetic genealogy, we delve deep into our perceptions of identity, inheritance, and belonging.
