This time Mike zigzags his way across the US to Columbus, OH and discovers a cool shop called Comic Town. The owner, Ryan, was very accommodating, even though he was busy helping customers throughout the interview. It was great to see the level of attention he gave them, no matter what they were looking for. Unfortunately, this marks the first time a shop featured on the Roadshow has closed its doors since the interview was recorded. Due to an ever growing backlog, it's been a year since Mike interviewed Ryan, and in November of 2023, he sadly closed his business. Ryan's heartfelt goodbye post on the Comic Town Facebook page is worth reading as it describes his decision as being as the result of a lot of soul searching and discussions with his family, which is laudable in and of itself. He was ready to shift away from retail and take on challenges in a different industry. We wish Ryan the very best and dedicate this episode not to the Comic Town shop, but to Ryan and his family. Mike and returning guest host Russell Burbage review Ryan's enthusiastic recommendations, the first volume of The Magic Order, by Mark Millar and Olivier Coipel. The Comic Town Facebook page is worth checking out, if for no other reason than reading his farewell post. Find Russell Burbage on his Seigi No Nakama blogspot at https://seiginonakama.blogspot.com/, which is Japanese for "Friends of Justice”, where he covers lots of Bronze Age goodness. Thanks to Russell for his help in reviewing!
THE BEST BOOK CLUB IN THE MULTIVERSE! This is the big one. This week, the Book Club Bois have a GIANT-SIZED discussion on the Marvel Comics event that changed Comic Book Events forever: MARVEL'S CIVIL WAR. Change has come to America. After a tragedy in Stamford, Connecticut, the Superhuman Registration Act becomes law – dividing the superhero community down the middle. With Captain America and his Secret Avengers opposing the new law of the land, it's up to Iron Man and his government-backed team to take down his old friend… by any means necessary. With the fate of the world hanging in the balance, one question will be asked… Whose side are YOU on? Covers Marvel's Civil War (2006) #1-7 and New Avengers (2005) #21-25 by Mark Millar, Steve McNiven, Brian Michael Bendis, Howard Chaykin, Leinil Francis Yu, Olivier Coipel, Pasqual Ferry and Jim Cheung Time Stamps: 03:47:24 Mailbag Send us your questions for the Book Club Mailbag! Comic Book Pros: Interviews with Comic Book Artists and Comics Industry Professionals
Today we're thrilled to bee joined by the singular creative mind of Olivier Coipel. Olivier's painterly style brings nuance and emotion to the stories and characters we love. His expansive vision of just how artistic comic art can be has helped Olivier carve out a unique place in the pantheon of comic book artists. From his breathtaking character designs to his epic covers and inspired interior work, Olivier's work is pure. Like many comic artists Olivier got his start in animation, but what truly set Olivier apart is his innate understanding of the human condition, and his knack for capturing these emotions with every stroke. It's clear from his deeply creative work that Olivier is driven by nothing short of artistic excellence. Olivier isn't just an artist – he's a conjurer of worlds. Get ready to be inspired, entertained, and no doubt learn a thing or two. -- Presented by the Lake Como Comic Art Festival! May 17-19 2024 Tickets available now at lccaf.com

In this episode, Chris welcomes back Clay from the “Ranger Alliance”, “DC Alliance”, and “Star Wars Alliance” podcasts to explore one of his favorite comic book series, “The Magic Order Vol. 1”. Writer Mark Millar and artist Olivier Coipel brings us a story that intermixes the world of magic with the mob. We live in a world where we've never seen a monster, and The Magic Order is the reason we sleep safely in our beds. By day, they live among us as our neighbors, friends, and co-workers, but by night they are the sorcerers, magicians, and wizards that protect us from the forces of darkness… unless the darkness gets them first. Magic meets the Mob in THE MAGIC ORDER, as five families of magicians—sworn to protect our world for generations—must battle an enemy who's picking them off one by one. Now that the dust has settled in Westview and with WandaVision in our rearview, now is the perfect time to talk what could quite possibly be the biggest Scarlet Witch story to date; the universe changing House of M written by Brian Michael Bendis and illustrated by Olivier Coipel. The story follows the horrific events of Avengers: Disassembled where The Scarlet Witch with revenge on her mind kills several Avengers using her unpredictable chaos magic. The aftermath saw the disbandment of the Avengers as a team, but not before one last meeting. Fearing the worst of things to come, The X-Men and The Avengers meet to answer a question they never thought they’d have to ask. What do we do about Wanda?
