Earlier this month, after ProPublica revealed that Justice Clarence Thomas frequently takes lavish vacations funded by billionaire Republican donor Harlan Crow, Thomas attempted to defend himself by claiming that this sort of “personal hospitality from close personal friends” is fine because Crow “did not have business before the court.”As it turns out, that's not true. As Bloomberg reports, the Supreme Court — including Justice Thomas — briefly considered a $25 million copyright dispute involving a company that Crow was a partial owner of in 2005. Donald Trump has been indicted on charges of mishandling classified documents at his Florida estate, a remarkable development that makes him the first former president in U.S. history to face criminal charges by the federal government that he once oversaw. The Justice Department was expected to make public a seven-count indictment ahead of a historic court appearance next week in the midst of a 2024 presidential campaign punctuated by criminal prosecutions in multiple states. Tennessee's Republican-controlled House of Representatives voted to expel Democratic Rep. Justin Pearson a week after he and two other Democrats led a gun reform protest on the House floor. The House earlier expelled Rep. Justin Jones, then failed to expel Rep. Gloria Johnson, over the protest following a mass shooting at a Nashville school.

Many are dismissing as too timid and just about meaningless the government's proposed crackdown on lobbyists . The government will strip swipe card access to parliament for lobbyists, seek a voluntary code of conduct for firms, and will rewrite the cabinet manual setting clear expectations around what minister's do immediately after politics. In this last episode of a three part installment, I look at whether reflective equilibrium is stuck with the same problems of pragmatism - namely a favoring of our already held considered convictions. I say no it isn't and attempt to illustrate why by looking at the work of Canadian philosopher Kai Nielsen's work on wide reflective equilibrium. Reflective equilibrium when conducted widely enough can be quite emancipatory. It allows us to escape from our comfortable, long held beliefs to venture into new territory while still being tied to a rational framework. I end on examining a more pecculiar part of Nielsen's work - his idea that wide reflective equilibrium could allow us to theoretically have a dialogue with long lost figures of history. Are we pre programmed to be Liberal or Conservative?  Some say Liberalism is in the genes .  The idea has come from the fact that too much spending with little control comes from somewhere. According to researchers at Harvard and University of California (San Diego), ideolgy is not affected just by social factors but by a dopamine receptor called DRD4.  James Fowler, Professor of political science and medical genetics,  conducted the study that found that people "with a specific variant of the DRD4 gene were more likely to be liberal as adults." However, the, subjects were only more likely to have leanings to the left if they were also socially active during adolescence. Africa On The Move will discuss a case of innocently incarcerating  an African youth in the state of Colorado. The question is: Is he being target intentionally as an African youth or is this a case of getting back at the mother for her legal actions against the state?
