In this episode, Andrew welcomes three seasoned logistics leaders with a unique perspective, having all started on the brokerage world before transitioning to the shipper side: Nicole Schuman, transportation procurement manager at Reser's Fine Foods; Marco Vargas-Avila, director of U.S. logistics at Dole Packaged Foods; and Andrew Dafnos, director of supply chain at KeHE Distributors.Andrew and the panel cover:Balancing cost vs. service, the importance of understanding different provider models (asset vs. non-asset), and strategic bid cycle planning. How shippers evaluate potential partners, the critical role of transparency, and why understanding a shipper's specific network needs (not just offering a truck) is key.Direct feedback on what makes cold outreach successful, common pitfalls to avoid, and the power of demonstrating genuine understanding before pitching.Perspectives on how the logistics landscape is changing and preparing for future trends.Follow The Freight Pod and host Andrew Silver on LinkedIn.*** This episode is brought to you by Rapido Solutions Group. Unearthed from their On Air Fest goodie bags, Lindy and Meagan discover little teensy influencer microphones! And if you know how jazzed one host in particular gets about the media board, you can guess what this means–absolute unhinged chaos aka a cross country FIELD TRIP!
Today, Lindy and Meagan are recording this episode in their most natural state: lying down. That's right–these two sleepy gals are broadcasting from a very fancy Big Fig mattress at On Air Fest in Brooklyn, NYC aka DA BIG APPLE. Oh how sweet and innocent we were when we recorded this ep one whole week before Election Day! Oh to be doubled up on Zoloft on this day! When we recorded this episode, we envisioned a world where it might be possible to ever feel comfortable and cozy again. That's why we brought you our annual Cozy Recs, complete with eggnog (or milk-based alternatives), oversized hoodies, and the famous cozy game you know and love: SMDDRFFAD! Does that help?? Is coziness possible? In any event, we hope you enjoy the only show on air brave enough to encourage you to replace all your blood with the sand of a weighted blanket. We're going to need a lot of sand. On a serious note, we're a little scared. We hope this podcast can continue to be a light for you as our world darkens. This week, Lindy and Meagan come bearing two important pieces of news. First up, is a long-awaited update on Kevin's nads. And equally important to report: Lindy and Meagan make an iron-clad commitment. A promise to NOT laugh at the biffs, blunders, and incomprehensible nonsense spewing from Donald Trump. We're calling it the No-Giggle Pledge, and the terms include donating to the Harris-Walz campaign each time they fail to hold to this democracy-enforcing covenant. Kamala, get prepared to add some zeros to your bank account, sweetie!Next on the docket are two compelling conspiracies. Lindy presents a theory that American Apparel's chokehold on our country in the mid-aughts was merely a Nelson Mandela effect. Where did all those tube tops and ass shorts go?! And meanwhile, Meagan reaches the internet ice wall and is convinced that the bizarre ads she is delivered are nothing more than inscrutable brain bait that must be clicked. And finally, our favorite segment, Whatcha Watchin'! Lindy and Meagan share their thoughts on two highbrow intellectual progrums: BritBox's McDonald & Dodds and HBO's Chimp Crazy. But who is watching what? The answer may surprise you. Tune in to find out! And tell us whatchoo watchin' on the telly in the Discord!Don't forget–Lindy and Meagan are inviting our dear listeners to send in their cozy unsolved mysteries! They are fully prepared to dust off their magnifying glasses and deerhunter caps and get to work, so send them in to deartextmeback@gmail.com!Are you gonna watch Chimp Crazy?? This week Lindy and Meagan are 42% less rude than last week! We decompress after last week's call outs and the Titan Submersible implosion recap (where the mean % points really racked up) and get back to our earnest, nerdy roots. Lindy spends American dollars on a personalized Hydro Flask. Kevin graduates from puppy school, so naturally we assign Breakfast Club archetypes to the rest of the pupporinos (Kevin is either the Janitor or Judd Nelson, who could really say). But the crowning jewel of the episode comes with breaking ground on territory few podcasters dare to explore: a discussion about what TV programs we're watching with our one and only precious lifetime on this planet. For Lindy and Meagan, it's the beautiful disaster that is Ink Master. From questionable tattoo challenges to even more questionable judging, they break down their top moments from the show (including “Leatherface Grandma” and Taco Bell spon con). WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON INK MASTER? We must know. Text us or leave us a voicemail on the Best Friend Party Phone at (703) 829-0003.We need a new mystery! If Lindy and Meagan had a podcast back in June 2023, this episode would have been soooo timely. But they didn't. So they're covering the most important story of that year here and now and that is…the implosion of the Titan submersible. BUT BEFORE WE DIVE INTO THAT, we're back on our endless, increasingly appalling, and all-encompassing RFK, Jr. beat, which brings us swiftly to Segment P.U.B.E.S. Somehow, this RFK, Jr. has led us on a collision course with a cohort of assholes who bullied Lindy in 2017 for being a nice dork. Guess what, dingalings? It's 2024 and we're ready to take you down a peg! Being good and nice is COOL and being bad and mean is NOT cool. Grow up! Be nice to fat people and stop being a hateful Nazi fangirl (this is directed to heinous public figures, not to our angel listeners who are reading this of course)! And one important BBW update: We will no longer be posting vids to that video website because it's too much work for too few viewers. (But if we get more resources and demand we are open to bringing it back later on!) We're sorry!Want us to maintain our presence on other platforms? Here are four ways to keep us alive and unimploded in the tiny submersible we call life: If you like our stuff, share a post or a clippy clip of ours around why dontcha? This week, Meagan returns from her near-death appendix betrayal! And she comes bearing many a tale from those hallowed hospital wings. Tales of: a murderous vestigial organ on the loose, sexy doctors cutting free what no longer serves, a spooky Jack Nicholson moment, and (dot dot dot) a murder mystery???And while Lindy awaits to hear the fate of an extremely ill Meagan, she sustains an injury from playing a video game too hard. If you've played Cult of the Lamb, you can probably relate. So they're just two brave businesswomen healing from equally traumatic illnesses. If you're also a brave businesswoman who is #healing, let us know what you're doing to entertain yourself! Sound the alarms, notify the press, we're in our CHOCOLATE MILK ERA.Think chocolate milk couldn't possibly fill 20+ minutes of an episode? THINK AGAIN, BROTHER. For many arts organizations in Portland and across the nation, recovery from the pandemic has been painfully slow or downright elusive. Lagging box office sales are forcing companies like the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and Artists Repertory Theatre to layoff staff and cancel or scale back entire seasons. So it’s all the more surprising to see an arts venue in the region that has drawn more than 70,000 people since it opened last year for musical performances, art exhibits, community events and classes. The Patricia Reser Center for the Arts opened in March 2022 in downtown Beaverton and features a 550-seat theater, art gallery, outdoor plaza, meeting and rehearsal spaces. Executive director Chris Ayzoukian joins us to talk about the new season which launched last month and his hopes for the future amid uncertainty around arts funding and audience demand.

Ahmad Fanoos spent the first 57 years of his life searching for the freedom to play music. In Afghanistan, where singing and playing music were banned under the Taliban, Ahmad could not safely pursue his passion. Over time, music led him and his family across careers and borders. Between Taliban regimes, Ahmad became a guest star and judge for one of Afghanistan's most popular TV music shows. He also inspired his own children to pursue music professionally — including his son Elham, who completed his master's degree in 2021 at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City. The music you hear in this episode was performed by Ahmad and Elham. The song is called “Ashkam Wale Ba Paye.'' You can listen to a live performance of this song here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmjbaa_XUHw&t=2s Catch the Fanooses playing together and they are touring the US and their ensemble is called, “Fanoos Ensemble,” where they tell the story of Afghanistan's cultural history through a combination of Afghan folk and Western classical music.
