Welcome back everyone. Please join us as your hosts Doug and Jeremy discuss the history and evolution of the Swiss Watch Shows. In this episode we go into detail outlining the history of the former Basel Watch and Jewellery Show which dated back to 1917. We discuss how the show grew, the early history and the modern history as mechanical watchmaking entered the modern era with a renaissance of fine watchmaking beginning in the late 1980's. We discuss the historical importance of the Basel Fair and also the emergence and the reasons for establishing a second important show in Genève, Switzerland. Initially the Genève show was called SIHH. Today the show has evolved into Watches and Wonders. Jeremy goes into detail and describes the experience enjoyed at the shows from the perspective of a retailer. Midway through the episode we are joined by friend of the pod, Scott Rosen. Scott, brings his experience as a vendor to the episode. As former USA Brand President for both Hublot and Vacheron Constantin, Scott relates a unique perspective from the point of view of the Manufacturer exhibiting at the all-important Swiss trade shows. Spence and Buzzy are super excited for this one. We had the opportunity to catch up with Josh Shanks (fellow Hoosier, for those keeping track of where Spence is from) of Watchonista!It is not everyday you meet someone who has followed their passion to the degree that Josh has. We talk about the passion project that was being the first US based employee for Watchonista, and getting the operation set up on the ground, to being vetted by the RedBar folks to go to his first meet-up, to eventually meeting his wife at SIHH. Josh has taken an amazing journey, and we were so glad he was happy to share it with us.Don't worry, we also talk plenty of watches! Josh walks us through his original purchase as a kid (at a flea market) and then walks us through how the addiction (his term not ours, but applicable) spiraled from there. He has had some amazing experiences in his time at Watchonista, including one very recently which we won't give away here.It was a pleasure getting to know Josh more, and here's looking to another episode, because I think we only scratched the surface!

Biz Müslümanlar her güzel ve meşru işin en üstününü yapmakla vazifeliyiz. Sıhhât, Allâhü Te‘âlâ'nın bahşettiği en büyük nimetlerdendir. Allâh (c.c.)'un verdiği sıhhate şükretmek kulluk vazifelerindendir. İbn Ömer (r.a.)'in naklettiğine göre, Resûlullâh (s.a.v.) şöyle buyurmuştur: “Allâh (c.c.)'dan, afiyet istenmesinden daha çok hoşuna giden bir şey istenmemiştir.” (Tirmizî) İrade ve vaktimizi, sıhhâtimizin devamı için kullanmalı ve bu konuda asla ihmalkâr davranmamalıyız. İnsan sıhhatine dikkat etmezse Allâh (c.c.) da ona hastalık verir. Çünkü Allâh (c.c.)'un iradesi, kulların iradesi yönünde tecellî eder. Kul hastalanmasına sebep olacak şekilde hareket ederse, Allâh (c.c.) da onun hakkında hastalık yaratır. Onun için, biz kul olarak irade, güç ve kuvvetimizi iyi ve doğruları işlemek ve sıhhât için kullanmalıyız. İbn Abbas (r.a.)'in naklettiğine göre, Hz. When you're a watch collector, there's always a wish list. At Fratello, we are collectors in the first place, the writing part came (much) later. In this episode of Fratello on Air, Mike and RJ talk about the next 3 pieces on their radar. There's no overlap in watches this time, just one brand that is mentioned twice. For RJ, the lists consists of a Zenith El Primero Rainbow (Flyback), a Rolex Day-Date 118238 and last not but least, something modern, a Bvlgari Octo Finissimo. In this episode, I will be going over my 3 favourite releases from the 2020 SIHH event. What are your choices?

It's not often that there's true breaking news in the watch world. This is an industry, after all, that has existed for hundreds of years and has been notably slow to change. And, of course, watches, in the grand scheme of things, just aren't as important as the events that are highlighted above the fold in every newspaper over these past few months in particular. Still, this morning we saw something happen in the industry that is genuinely newsworthy, and represents what could potentially be a major shift in how watch brands do business.As reported by Hodinkee, Revolution, and SJX, it was announced that Rolex, Patek Philippe, Tudor, Chopard, and Chanel had collectively made the decision to withdraw from the re-scheduled Baselworld fair, currently on the calendar for January 2021. Not only are these major Swiss brands leaving Basel behind, but they've announced their own show, in partnership with FHH (the group behind Watches & Wonders, formerly SIHH), for the Spring of 2021.Of course, here at Worn & Wound, we're wondering how this will impact many of the smaller brands that we cover. While the Baselworld show is still scheduled for early next year, and we presume those brands who have not already dropped out will participate, it remains to be seen if the trade show will be viable without Rolex, Patek, and others in the longer term. And if not, how will small and midsize brands show their products to press and dealer networks outside of a single, large, centralized trade show?

Trends of Fashion Week Fashion week pushed on regardless of coronavirus-induced panic. Victoria notes the trendiest things to hit the runway were pearls, fringe, feathers, and solid gold links. If you’re not at fashion week—what can you do? Stay home and support your local businesses! Weird Story of the Week: Toilet Edition Rob tells another Weird Story of the Week—and this one’s a trip. A Dubai, United Arab Emirates, museum and art gallery has revealed a diamond-encrusted toilet, introduced by Coronet, an Aaron Shum jewelry brand. With 4,815 diamonds (334 cts. t.w.) valued at $1.28 million, it could make anyone’s trip to the restroom sparkle. The jeweled throne even set a Guinness World Record for the greatest number of diamonds set on a toilet bowl.

We just learned here at Times Ticking (right before posting this blog) that this year’s Watches and Wonders Geneva has been canceled—due to public health concerns over the Coronavirus. With that in mind, in today's video we are focusing on what the SIHH actually is, so let's get right into it.

In this 10th episode, Michael Stockton and Robert-Jan Broer talk about the recent LvmH Watch Week that took place in Dubai and that we visited. News from Bvlgari, Zenith and Hublot in early January, when normally we'd be visiting the SIHH (Watches & Wonders). We dive into the highlights of the LvmH Watch Week, especially the Bvlgari Octo Finissimo seems to receive a lot of love. But, we kick off with a wrist check, of course. Mike is wearing a Seiko 6159-7000 from 1968 (the predecessor of the Marinemaster 300) and RJ wears his Omega Constellation'95 1202.30.Then, our friends of Time and Tide in Australia organize a watch auction called 'Watch & Act' and all proceeds will go to the recovery of Australia and its wildlife. Mike mentions an initiative on Instagram where Seiko watches are being auctioned for the same good cause.Next, we talk about the downside of Instagram. The ongoing rants and comments on the market resale value of watches seem to be more important than watches that are showing something truly unique. If it isn't a Nautilus, Royal Oak, or Daytona, a lot of people don't seem to be interested. Is it lack of interest, is it about purchasing for investment reasons only, or what is it? You should buy the watch that sings to you, no matter what brand name is on the dial or what price tag is on there. What's going on with Audemars Piguet? After a controversial showing at SIHH 2019 with the Code 11.59, the brand behind the Royal Oak has seen a down-tick on the pre-owned market as of late. Watch Traders Jason Mane and Josh Thanos are here to explain why. For "This or That" this week, Josh is sticking up for AP with the Royal Oak Offshore Diver Black Mega Tapisserie Dial (Ref. 15703ST.OO.A002CA.01) and Jason is pitting it up against the Rolex Submariner "Hulk" (Ref. 116610LV). A CEO's perspective of the Fine Watching Making Industry Welcome to the International Fine Watchmaking exhibition better known as SIHH.  It is held on January 18-22 2016 in Geneva, Switzerland. The SIHH is where brands premiere their latest watches, the result of often years of intensive research.  The SIHH is also where watchmakers and designers, the representatives of an entire creative team, share their passion for watchmaking one-on-one. It is a private event for trade visitors only. In this video, I interview Jean-Marc Pontroue, He is CEO of Roger Dubuis watches.  Roger Dubuis joined the Richemond Group in 2008.
