It's TVLSE TIME on the Muscogee Pod! In Episode 2 of our Storyteller Series, we are joined by associate professor at the University of Alberta Dr. Russell Cobb. Cobb discusses his upbringing in Tulsa and how he uncovered the true history of the "Oil Capital of the World." We talk Tulsa's origins, land swindles, the struggle to tell Oklahoma's true history and how a Creek Town became an Oil Town in this "Conversation from our Reservation!" More from Russell Cobb: The Great Oklahoma Swindle: Race, Religion, and Lies in America's Weirdest State In The Great Oklahoma Swindle Russell Cobb tells the story of a state rich in natural resources and artistic talent, yet near the bottom in education and social welfare. Raised in Tulsa, Cobb engages Oklahomans across race and class to elucidate their contradictory and often stridently independent attitudes. Interweaving memoir, social commentary, and sometimes surprising research around race, religion, and politics, Cobb presents an insightful portrait that will make you rethink everything you thought you knew about the American Heartland. Purchase HERE. - History X: What they didn't teach you in school. History X amplifies true stories from history that have been repressed, suppressed, or simply forgotten. Host Russell Cobb discusses how our understanding of history is shifting in popular culture and what to make of the falling statues and renaming of places. Listen HERE. - “The Ghosts of Creek County: Revisiting Oil and Indigenous Sovereignty” This story concerns the legalized theft and swindles of land allotments granted to citizens of the Five Tribes. This presentation will examine two cases that exemplify the crosscurrents of Indigenous sovereignty, oil production, and cultural relations between American Indians, African Americans, and white settlers between 1907 and 1922. Have you ever sat down with a friend and meant to talk about one thing, and then ended up talking forever about something else? That's how this conversation was with Valerie from "The Vulgar Vegan Cupcakes." I wanted to chat with her about veganism, vulgarity and cupcakes...but instead...we really went down our own little rabbit hole, and chatted passionately about plant-based diets, why we don't eat meat, and how - if you're interested - you can flirt with veganism or vegetarianism to determine if it's something you want to commit to long-term. We also chat about how this type of lifestyle doesn't have to be "all or nothing." What works for you is what works for you - and that's what matters. You know what's hard? Being a mom to 5 kids. You know who seems to do it with grace and ease AND "keep it real" at the same time? Chelsea Kasper. Chelsea is a beautiful soul who continues to show up for herself in a number of ways - big, small, and everything in between. And when you listen to Chelsea's story, you learn that she showed up for herself in a very big way at a pretty young age...and it's continued ever since. Not to say there haven't been obstacles along the way. Because it's life, so of course obstacles have been there like "Hey - Hello - Allow us to introduce ourselves." But those obstacles? Chelsea used those suckers to help her really find her passion - supporting, encouraging and uplifting other moms. If you know anything about mamahood, it can be pretty overwhelming and at times, lonely. So Chelsea has made it her mission to have that NOT be the case. And have fun doing it! And the cool thing about this? She's showing her kids what's possible when you choose to believe in the power of YOU. This is a heavy subject, right? But you know what makes it even heavier? The fact that it's not frequently and openly discussed. Why is that? I know a few people who have experienced challenges with fertility, and you know what they've told me? The fact that this topic is NOT frequently talked about is a part of what made their experience even MORE difficult. The more we talk about things, the more "normal" it becomes. And the less alone people feel. In this episode, my friend Tina openly discusses her experience (and her husband's experience) with infertility. And I think it's a conversation that you need to hear. Because even if you haven't experienced this yourself, chances are you know someone who has. And when we become informed about a situation or experience we ourselves have no knowledge of, or experience with, it allows us the opportunity to have even more compassion and empathy for those who are different from us. Hollywood is Dead is a podcast for filmmakers where we'll break down some of our favorite films, but at the heart of the podcast is a desire to explore the spirit of the storyteller. How are we supposed to navigate this industry? Am I supposed to be feeling these extreme feelings of doubt, fear and envy; of trembling excitement or nervousness? Does anyone else feel this way?  The good news is we know the answer to this: Yes! Literally everyone experiences varying degrees of everything you're feeling. There is no shame in it. My goal is to blow our minds open and dispel any false narratives declaring that you have to have your shit together if you want to succeed. All you need to succeed is choose a goal, such as making a movie, and never stop pursuing it.  This is the Stoic Storyteller. “Success is a journey, not a destination. This week, we're talking with Tom Witkowski, whose story “The Guardian Devil” was featured on our most recent episode of The Storyteller Series. You can listen to Tom's story by heading to http://storytellerseriespodcast.com/listen (storytellerseriespodcast.com/listen). In “The Guardian Devil,” Leonard, the “guardian devil” from whom this story takes its title, is growing increasingly frustrated by the changing world's waning need for creative types. In the fast-paced industry of causing trouble and mayhem for humans, there's just no time to slow down and appreciate the artistry of a well-orchestrated mishap. However, things start to change for Leonard when, after making a new friend in the most unlikely of places, he's presented with the opportunity to showcase his talents as a different kind of guardian (think harps and feathers). Tom Witkowski lives in Minnesota and has spent the last 25 years avoiding respectable careers by working as a copywriter in advertising. He's worked on brands like Harley-Davidson and the Minnesota Twins, and won seven regional Emmys, as well as many other industry awards, most of which mean nothing. He started a short fiction blog in 2019 called 9 Circles Fiction, and his stories have since appeared in The Daily Drunk and Bright Flash Literary Review.  In his spare time, he dreams about mountains.  You can follow him on Facebook and Twitter (@9CirclesFiction) and read more stories on his site, 9CirclesFiction.com. This summer I have been preaching through a sermon series that I have entitled Masterclass: Storyteller, in which I am looking at the parables of Jesus, the stories that He told, and what we can learn from them about what it means to know and follow God. If you’re unfamiliar with the term parable, the best definition I have found comes from Pastor John MacArthur: A parable is an ingeniously simple word picture illuminating a profound spiritual lesson. Jesus often taught in parables, using word pictures like “God’s kingdom is like a treasure hidden in a field” or “God is like a Father welcoming home a wayward Son.” By using everyday language that was familiar to his audience, he ensured that the stories would stay with them long after he left. But he also used parables because the way they were told would cause the self-righteous and sophisticated to reject his teaching as basic, completely missing the deeper spiritual truth hidden in the story, while those with childlike faith would respond to Jesus and want to know Him better.

What was supposed to be 50,000 people attending, turned into more than 400,000! My response to Woodstock many years later is a song called Peace and Love that reflected the times, the social temperament, the Vietnam war, the draft, the dead, and the courage of our young people that had risen peacefully to say “no more”, and, “hell no, we won't go”! Special thank you to Clara Scott for her article on Joni Mitchell. Clara is a writer for the Michigan Daily. Peace and Love were written by James Kevin O'Connor 2011. Had a pretty good time, back in 1969, I was a little too young for Woodstock so I visit often now tye dye shirts, and Crimson cows, and Love, Hey just two words changed everyone, turned a lot of heads down in Washington, you can't fight free will with a bigger gun, hey what's all this crap about Peace and Love, don't you know I'm in the middle of re-election. Chorus: Yeah, Peace and Love, Hey it's easy Man, you don't need to have a plan. It's in the holy bible and koran, hey far out man, I like living with a Cruzan tan, a little taste of living off the land, its such an easy thing to understand when East meets West there will be Peace and Love. I remember waking up in a daze, staring through a purple haze, we'de all gather round to watch the evening news, praying that someone had the brains to blow out the fuse. That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind, flower power hell no we won't go, while the jungle bleeds red, with teenage dead, what the hell we doing playing Giant steps on the Moon. Bridge: It's amazing how we seem to find, a way to tiptoe around the landmines, I stretch my hand out connect to you, hey brother to brother, just twin reflections, of one another, could we take a chance and say, could we take a chance and say Namaste? hey Namaste~   Follow James: www.jameskevinoconnor.com www.thejamesoconnoragency.com www.dharmicevolution.com facebook twitter instagram youtube For coaching help, reach out the james@thejamesoconnoragency.com Please sign up on www.dharmicevolution.com/guest-invite/ for artist opportunities. THE EIGHT BEATITUDES OF JESUS "Blessed are the poor in spirit,  for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.  Blessed are they who mourn,  for they shall be comforted.  Blessed are the meek,  for they shall inherit the earth.  Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,  for they shall be satisfied.  Blessed are the merciful,  for they shall obtain mercy.  Blessed are pure of heart,  for they shall see God.  Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness,  for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."  Gospel of St. Matthew 5:3-10 The Beatitudes is a message of Hope! Heavenly Rock Star, he rocked your thoughts and paradigms, taught love and encouraged everyone to awaken to the Holy Fathers word, (no not the Pope) your Father in Heaven. What does fear sound like? Listen to the song “I'm Afraid” at the end of this podcast. High School upperclassman trying to show off selling his car, James was a prospect, but after he tried to be Dale Earnhardt Sr. or Richard Petty, Nascar champ, it did not work, the car crashed and no sale that day. James was showing off his 17-year-old fabulous motorcycle skills by crashing his brand new Motorcycle into a parking lot crater while flying over the handlebars. Broken wrist, cuts, bruises, Humiliated, and bruised ego, but he survived! Fear in the relationship ending, either you ending it, or them ending it, leave comments about this episode, what are you struggling with? Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane, sweating blood, seeing visions of soldiers mocking him, and knowing he was to be tortured brutally in a matter of hours then nailed to a cross, this is fear at its highest imaginable level, and he knew there was really no way to get around facing this.                                                                         Mt of Olives still has olive trees that are over 2000 years old that still to this day produces olives! I AM VICTORIOUS the album has the song I am Afraid that recreates the moments in the garden of Gethsemane before the arrest of Jesus. Make sure you keep Gratitude in your life! Attracting abused people into your life without knowing it, how does this happen? Abuse Tracker, online tracking blog about some of the Catholic Church firestorm of priests that have violated the trust of children. So many of us know someone that has suffered some kind of emotional, physical, or physiological abuse. (Sometimes all 3) Having your life systematically stolen from you, having your innocence stolen, when you should be in discovery mode, you discover that the very people that were supposed to be protecting you, end up violating your trust in a mile disgusting manner. So why Beat the Piñata? This song allowed me to vent my rage and start to understand the circumstances as to why. But one day you do discover that you do have value, and perhaps your tormenter was tortured themselves, and sick but not even knowing how sick they were, and why. “Tools to battle the demons” Do not isolate! Rollin on it, I'm rollin on, rollin like a wave on the ocean. Rollin on it, I'm rollin on it, just rollin on rollin like a wave of emotion.  Standing on the top of El Capitan, I got a 31-foot green and yellow wingspan, caught a thermal rise in the afternoon sun, with a peregrine falcon having so much fun. Chorus Rolling like the smoke from a runaway train, I'm rolling like the wind behind the driving rain, rolling like the heat from acetylene flame, I'm rolling with the power of a Hurricane. I remember when I started the dHarmic Evolution, I started all wrong, that's how I do almost everything, I just do it! Not advisable, you make too many mistakes that way, the good news is you "get it out there" I started by interviewing everybody and anybody, you should start with a very tight niche, then expand later. I did the opposite, I live in opposite day almost every day. What was intriguing to me, was the fact that my audience eventually told me what the show was supposed to be about, I was feeling grateful. So it is with Gratitude, what is it? why an album title? what does it do for you, me, anyone? Let's rewind for a moment, I put out an album in 2014 titled "Geography of the Soul" immediately after releasing that project I had started writing the next record that was ultimately going to be called Gratitude, I can't remember exactly why but most of it came together very quickly, I was about 70% finished writing the record when I did a complete stop! It felt too self-serving, I was not feeling grateful enough! Two years and 161 shows later and now in 71 countries, we are still finding new audiences to put our fabulous roster of Indie artists in front of to learn about their music. You should really check them out, every single one is on the dHarmic Evolution website and you can check out their blog, their show, their songs and show notes all on the site www.dharmicevolution.com  now I was really feeling grateful. While the Gratitude album was on hold, and during the inception of "Mercy" and the Agency (JOCA) I had one of my vetting and songwriting sessions with Christine and asked the Lord if I could finish the "Gratitude" album (I don't like anything left incomplete) he said through Christine (she hears his voice very clearly) "no, not this year, you won't have time, you can, however, put out a few singles". Ok, that was good enough for me. I was grateful. Then as if the ball was dropping in Times Square on New Year's Eve, I get a call out of the blue last fall, it was Christine, "James the Lord gave me your album cover this morning" I said of course "What!! &*%$@0>??" She then described in perfect detail what he wanted to on the cover of the "Gratitude" album, "he wants your hands holding the dove" a few more trips back to Nashville to record, mix, and master, and behold "Gratitude" was born and released on January 15th, 2018. I am really, really, Grateful!!  You can download a copy here today!    https://store.cdbaby.com/cd/jameskevinoconnor7 follow James on Websites: www.jameskevinoconnor.com www.thejamesoconnoragency.com www.dharmicevolution.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/jameskevinoconnor/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/jameskevinoconn Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jameskevinoconn/?hl=sr YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGqbuLm9jzWZcmLBYQsQyzw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3E3HZvANMtM
