I've been feeling a lot of anxiety lately. Our wilderness kid is doing really well, so you'd think, after all the heartache, pain, and anxiety of that journey, things would finally feel calm. But life has a way of throwing curveballs, doesn't it?But honestly, I've been judging my anxiety hard. What's your problem? Why can't you handle this? You used to be good at this! You're a mess. It's exhausting, and the more I try to push these thoughts away, the louder they get.But then a good reminder brought me back on the path of unshaming and it started to shift my perspective. I know many of you are navigating hard times too. The mistakes we make, the thoughts that feel overwhelming, they need unshaming. They need understanding. That's where healing starts. And as I work through this, I'm learning to love myself through the experience. If you're in a season of anxiety or shame, I want you to know I'm here for you. Together, we can unlearn the judgment and begin to embrace understanding. In this episode on unshaming anxiety, I reflect on:My recent struggles with anxiety and what they've taught me;How anxiety often masks deeper emotions, like sadness or fear; The transformative power of understanding and accepting anxiety;Unshaming past actions to regain control and self-compassion.Please know, you are not alone.Other episodes on this topic: 61. Teacher, counselor, and attorney David Bedrick has developed a profound method for helping people unshame their shame. In this third episode of our short non-grad series of four, David and Drew dive deep into a conversation about the true nature of shame and how to heal it through what David calls Unshaming. While David is not a graduate of the Process, his work is very closely aligned with the work of the Process. As David says, "Shame is an internalized vision of oneself. It creates feelings, but they are not feelings." According to David, to heal shame, someone must truly witness us. In telling our story of what happened, we need to be heard, seen, and understood. We need to be humanized, not stigmatized or pathologized. He says we must be "witnessed for being a human being who's been through an experience. That's unshaming. That's humanizing." We hope you enjoy this profound conversation on the nature of healing shame with David and Drew. **This episode mentions physical and sexual violence and may not be suitable for all listeners. Please use your discretion. More about David Bedrick: David Bedrick, JD, Dipl. PW grew up in a family marked by violence. While his father's brutality was physical and verbal, his mother's denial and gaslighting had its own covert power. I am so proud to be initiating this new series - UNSHAMING THE HOUSES - with my friend Jeff Hinshaw. Let's dive in! To learn more about this project, and more about my work on shame, tune in to the episode right before this one: "Grief is the New Shame." I forgot to mention in the intro that we had had an internet glitch right at the beginning, but I didn't edit it out because it's cute and human. Jeff Hinshaw, the founder of “Cosmic Cousins,” has made several contributions to the world of astrology. A vocal advocate for promoting inclusivity and diversity in the astrology community, he uses his platform to highlight the work of other LGBTQ+ individuals from diverse backgrounds. In addition, through his podcast, Substack, newsletter, and social media, he shares his knowledge of astrology, making it accessible to a wider audience. At the intersection of astrology and spirituality, Hinshaw explores the ways in which astrology can be used as a tool for spiritual growth and connections between astrology and practices such as meditation, yoga, and tarot. Emphasizing the importance of building community, Hinshaw is passionate about creating space to connect using the language of astrology. +++ Click here to invest in any or all of the Unshaming the Signs workshops. +++ Podcast art by Angela George. I HAVE A BIG ANNOUNCEMENT INSIDE! I can't wait to share. The title of this episode came through as I was sharing how it's my feeling that underneath the shame we carry is grief. The grief of the younger self that the world didn't appear to be a place to hold the generosity of nuance, of complexity, of paradox. A place of compassionate listening and curiosity. Grief that we have to be either good or bad. Grief that can't just be our whole selves. It's my hypothesis that it was easier to submit to the logic of the shame police than it was to hold the grief about the world. In this episode, I give updates on my passion project to bring the medicine magic of unshaming to the astrological community. Upcoming Live Events: If you're in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, please join me Saturday, Aug 3, at one or both of the following workshops: Unshaming the Signs at The Future - one of my most favorite metaphysical shops in the U.S.! This is an opportunity for intimate, live conversation on Unshaming the Signs. 10 AM-12 PM. Astrology & Yoga at Sunna Studio - Sunna is a new studio owned by my cousin Berit Ahlgren! We are team-teaching on the theme "Building a Home for the Magical Child Inside" in honor of Cancer-Leo at the dark moon. 5:30-7:30 PM. I am so excited to connect with you in person! +++ Podcast art: Angela George. Podcast music: Jonathan Koe.

Today, I'm excited to host Rachel Rae Halder. She explains how the freeze response is often misunderstood, the nuances of the freeze response, its impact on various aspects of life, and the importance of approaching it with understanding and self-compassion. In this podcast episode, Rachel takes us through: - How freeze is common and how it's often misunderstood. - What freeze is, and how it occurs. - Freeze in different life areas. - How understanding freeze dynamics brings compassion to areas of struggle and stuckness. - Thawing freeze through micro-movements - How seeking stability, safety, and self-trust in the body and environment supports the nervous system in emerging from a shutdown. - How to work with chronic freeze patterns. - Consciously working through ancestral healing of freeze patterns. - Her upcoming 8-week course “Finding Flow” and other offerings for Nervous System Education. And so much more! Rachel Halder is a neurodivergent and queer writer, thought leader, and seasoned practitioner with over a decade of experience in post-traumatic growth healing arts, with some of the most advanced trainings around trauma resolution, sexual liberation, and collective healing. “The unshaming process is bringing out into the forefront all of that stuff that we're telling ourselves, because shame is really saying that there's something wrong with me. By naming it out loud, we're taking all of the wind out of its sails.” –Kamini WoodAre you holding yourself back without even realizing it? I'm really excited to talk with Kamini Wood, a certified life coach, about limiting beliefs. She shows us how to reign in people pleasing and perfectionism and overcome the beliefs we have that hold us back.We see a lot of people pleasing and perfectionism in the PlanSimple community, so we started there. Kamini says that overcoming people pleasing starts with getting clear about your needs and values. When you've reconnected with that you can begin to realign your actions and step out of the people pleasing role. Then pay attention to your body. It may take a little time to learn your own cues, but notice what happens when you start people pleasing. Practice self-talk to see what's happening and what you really want. Kamini recommends actually talking aloud to yourself. It feels weird at first, but it's important. We talk about: Perfectionism and “next-ing” Separating out values you were brought up with to what is really meaningful to you nowWhy we avoid boundaries … and why we need themLearning how to hold boundaries (it's something we need to learn!)Shaming ourselves and the unshaming processHelping kids navigate perfectionism and people pleasingABOUT KAMINIKamini Wood, a certified life coach, helps high-achievers heal their relationships with themselves. Action is where change happens.Even though we want big change, it's really little things done over and over that make the difference. So pick a doable thing. Put it in your calendar. Weave it through your days for a week and then move on to the next one. It will have a snowball effect. Here are three Doable Changes from this conversation:IDENTIFY YOUR NEEDS. The first step to break out of people pleasing is to recognize your own needs and values. Take some time to think about what you actually need, believe and value yourself. This can be an ongoing process. You can start by asking yourself questions like: What's going on here? Is this something you actually want to do? Is this really what you agree with? Pay attention to values you were brought up with. Ask if they fit you now.SET AND KEEP BOUNDARIES. You can set and keep boundaries with
Unshaming and celebrating our sexuality is an essential step toward self-acceptance. In this deeply personal episode, I share my story of sexual liberation while also exploring the societal pressures that often repress sexual expression and how overcoming these can lead to personal growth and fulfillment. We dive into 3 books that helped me shift my limited perspectives and own my true desires — "Sex Outside the Lines" by Chris Donaghue, "Boyslut" by Zachary Zane, and "Pleasure Activism" by Adrienne Maree Brown.

How do you release shame you've experienced along your path of self-development and growth?Today I reflect on my own spiritual journey and the ways in which shame has impacted my experience over the past decade or so. I've personally experienced a bit of a homecoming back to myself, and as I've done so, the path has consistently surprised me. The thing that has most shocked me is my shift back into spirituality. In fact, I fought it for quite sometime — until it practically beat me over the head and I finally cried uncle about it.In this episode, I give you a peek into my experience in hopes of it normalizing this for you or anyone else who may be supported by hearing what I've been through specifically when it comes to many facets of spiritual shame.I felt shame when I felt pulled away from my religious upbringing, and I felt shame when I came back to spirituality. And I felt triggered by it all for a long time.Hope there's something good for you here in these reflections, and that it invites you to open up to your experiences (and those of others) with less judgement and shame — and replace it with loving curiosity. This is a Thursday Thread episode pulling a piece from Tuesday's episode featuring Allison Holley. This week, David Bedrick, an elder dedicated to the work of Unshaming, joins me on the podcast to discuss what it means to step into the transformative potential of eldership. We explore the ache for elders in our culture and the necessity of imparted wisdom, courage, and insight. David shares his personal journey of finding his path and the role of elders in guiding and supporting him. Together, we discuss the quality of humility, the power of embracing the darkness, and the regenerative nature of forgiveness as a path of heart. About David Bedrick David Bedrick is an elder dedicated to the work of unshaming our culture and our world. He is the founder of the Santa Fe Institute for Shame Based Studies and the author of several books, including "Talking Back to Dr. Phil" and "17 Women's Stories of Hunger, Body, Shame and Redemption." David's upcoming book, "Unshamed," will be published in 2024. Summary: David Bedrick, an elder and founder of the Santa Fe Institute for Shame Based Studies, joins the podcast to discuss the concept of eldership and the importance of stepping into this role in our culture. He emphasizes the need for elders to embrace their path of heart and share their wisdom and experiences with others. David also explores the significance of humility, death, and regenerativeness in the journey of becoming an elder. Key Takeaways: Eldership is not just about age, but about embracing a path of heart and sharing wisdom with others. Humility is essential for elders, as it allows them to acknowledge their mistakes and share their experiences with others. Embracing periods of death and rebirth is a crucial part of the journey to becoming an elder. The last Venus Retrograde literally broke us, and then Venus walked with us through a radical repair process that has been nurturing our love since. We talk about the ways mystical "bullshit" has supported us as individuals and as a couple. The most bullshit framework of all helped us the most: Twin Flames. It's deeply embarrassing to admit, but it's true. By fully committing to exploring the responsibility of being twin flames, we nurtured repair and healed in ways I don't know we would have experienced if we hadn't been willing to play with the possibility. Matt has come on Moon to Moon before, and I encourage everyone to check out our first conversation "Coincidence as a Practice," which we reference often. In that episode, we talk about religious trauma, UFOs, and how embracing coincidence yields more magical, mystical living. It's my 3rd most popular episode ever. I trust you'll enjoy it. The second part of today's episode (the last 25 minutes or so) is a solo segment where I talk about Venus retrogrades in general and about this one in Leo specifically. I share dates and suggestions for walking through this experience to receive the loving updates Venus wants to offer you. David Bedrick is the founder of the Santa Fe Institute for Shame-Based Studies, where he teaches therapists, coaches, and healers from around the world how to work with people in a new way. Healing from a pornography habit can be an extremely challenging and disturbing experience, and David's perspective is that it shouldn't be simply accepted. There are often hidden gifts in the shame that may arise, and we're exploring this on this episode. David shares his own unshaming story and his unique approach to unshaming. He offers insights into why shaming ourselves never leads to change, the difference between guilt and shame, and what the practice of unshaming can look like in reality. Welcome to another dark moon download. I have found it to be true that expanding who we are out in the world has a to do with expanding our capacity to be with what comes up in our inner world as we face the evidence of our lives. From an emotional perspective, most evidence is "failure," and a lot of the reason we hold back or "stay small" has to do with protecting ourselves from evidence we don't want to see. So to become a person of evidence means to become someone with the courage and self-trust to be with whatever comes up in the present moment. In this dark moon episode, I share how this idea of becoming a person of evidence has been growing in my life as I've been relating it to both the presence of Taurus and the paradox of Gemini. The title of this new series is inspired by Rainer Maria Rilke's passage from Letters to a Young Poet: "Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books that are now written in a very foreign tongue. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answer.” In this new M2M series, which will be monthly or every other month, I want to respond to the questions on your heart that you must ask - not the questions you should ask, or even the ones you want to ask. You know it's a question that you must ask because it sings from your heart. In the asking, you begin to live your way into the answer. The point is not to hear what I have to say about it as much as to speak your question, trusting that if it's a question you must ask, then it's also a question that is in some way bigger than yourself. These are questions than live in other bodies, too. And so let's share them together, each of us responding to them and living them in our own weird ways. I share what I am learning and living from the questions, but not to give answers that solve problems or tie things with a bow. I can only answer emergently from the present moment, trusting that my personal truth in the question will light something up in the listener. In this 1st episode, I share 5 questions that I have recently been asked. Moving forward, I invite you to share your question here and I may or may not share yours in an upcoming episode. Know that it's in the speaking your question that you will feel a shift, not from my response. The 5 questions: - What has been your experience emerging as an astrologer with your daughters? Have they ever resented you or shown disapproval? - How do you bring your thoughts into the physical form so they can be communicated and be helpful and be guideposts and spells for other people through the written word? - How can we discern between the "wild twin" and self-destruction? - How do you navigate feelings of being an imposter or feeling not healed enough to hold space for others? - How do you do all the things you do? What are the practical and logistical as well as the mystical and intangible factors that support you in being someone who holds so much? I hope you enjoy Living the Questions as much as I enjoyed creating it! If you haven't left a review or rating, I would be so grateful if you would take a moment to offer one. Unshaming is a critical skill in any self-acceptance journey, and especially an ADHD acceptance journey. In this episode I walk you through 3 steps to unshame any experience. I talk about how shame is pervasive in the neurodivergent experience and why, and how to take power away from shame and take it back for yourself. Edit: My brain *COMPLETELY FORGOT* how Kristin Neff is actually pretty ableist—her book on self compassion, while it has wonderful parts to it, also has a part where she claims her autistic son was "healed" by a shaman. Eugh. I blocked all that out. I'd like to quote bell hooks instead: "Rarely, if ever, are any of us healed in isolation. Healing is an act of communion."

"I realize now that I came to astrology to heal shame, though I didn't know that at the time. I had never really put the word shame on my experience. But I now see that shame was the baseline of my personality. I had an apology for my existence somewhere in any conversation, any project, any situation. Whether it was the perceived too-gruesome parts of me I was apologizing for, or even for the perceived too-perfect parts of me. I just wanted to apologize to everyone. "I'm sorry I exist." But back then I didn't know that what I was swimming in was a sea of shame. It feels really foreign to me to talk about that now. It's not that I don't have shame that I notice. It's just that now I notice it because I'm not so immersed in it that I can't even see it. I tap on new layers of it all the time. And I know what to do to help myself and to resource myself. What I see in working with other people is that shame is the thing that's always present. Shame is the thing we're all carrying around. Whether we think that word is something we associate with or not. Maybe you call it the inner critic. Maybe you call it self-sabotage. Maybe you're attached to the word guilt or regret or self-mistrust. To me, it's all a shame problem." For astrology to be helpful, it has to help us with shame, because we cannot vision exciting futures when we see life through a shame lens. Unshaming the Signs is a framework for calling in this approach to speaking astrology. It's a healing-focused approach to astrology. I hope you enjoy it and find it helpful. Phantom Electric Ghost Interview Emily Flood Fitness Coach: "Unshaming Fitness by Reprogramming Your Brain" Biography Emily is an online fitness & life coach who integrates ritual, psychology, & magical mindset practices with her clients. She competed on the national bodybuilding stage in 2020 & has since been focused on lifting for strength. Her mission is to take shame out of the fitness industry by reprogramming the brain for self love. About Emily Like most women, I got into fitness because I didn't like the way my body looked. My mind ran on a constant dialogue of self hate & anxiety was my day to day norm--to my infinite shame. I threw myself into competitive bodybuilding to battle the post college isolation & loneliness & spent years tracking every single gram of food without ever being allowed to eat out all the way until I competed on the national stage in 2020. As you can imagine I developed some incredible disordered eating habits & fell into binge eating behaviors shortly after. As a fitness coach myself at this point I felt an incredible amount of shame--like I was a total fraud! I set out on a quest to "fix" myself, my eating behaviors, & my anxiety. 2.5 years later after multiple courses, mentorships, & an ADHD diagnosis... I realized that it had been shame itself that directed my disordered eating behaviors as well as my anxiety. In thinking myself as broken, I was fueling the self hate & "not good enough" dialogue that all of my clients also struggled with. Through unshaming my own life: learning to love & accept my full authentic self, I publicly came out as a witch, started to integrate magical mindset practices (which are truly just "spicy psychology" meditations, journeywork, & rituals to get your creative right brain on board) with my clients along with life coaching techniques I'd learned from my many mentors including emotional regulation, somatics, & limiting belief shifting. Through the experience I also escaped an emotionally abusive relationship with someone who has Narcissistic Personality Disorder. I'm extremely passionate about unshaming fitness because frankly, we all have trauma. Whether that was bullying, abuse, assault, or simply growing up with all the messages around what women are "supposed" to look like & eat, how we're supposed to behave, what we're supposed to wear etc... all of that compounds in the brain as shame. "I'm not good enough, I need to fix myself, I always mess up, I'm too much for people etc." And this dramatically impedes people from having success on a fitness journey because it activates the fight or flight portion of the brain, which is also responsible for our trauma responses. The fitness industry is full of coaches who use shame to motivate their clients: shame for what people eat, what their bodies look like, shaming clients for being "lazy or undisciplined" etc & this just keeps people stuck. It's my life's mission to change this & to help people tackle their fitness journeys from self love by reprogramming their brains for self love. I've been mindfully eating for the last year, have not experienced binge eating behaviors in a very long time, & am training for a powerlifting (strength based) competition. Have you found pleasure and shame to go hand-in-hand? Nicole Nardone swings open the doors to talk about how self-pleasuring is absolutely vital to our boundlessness, especially as women, for whom it is not uncommon to not have self-pleasured until their late 20's (like me), or even NEVER. This episode is not just about sexual energy though, it's about LIFE energy, enjoyment, integration of shadows, of really hard stuff, of sweetness, and most of all, of LOVE. Some of the highlights for me, other than being able to be in Nicole's presence for nearly an hour, were how she would use the sound, "Mmmm," throughout, my favorite quote by her, "It doesn't matter what modality you use as long as there is love," and how she felt about Kundalini Yoga when she started practicing in college. (I share her sentiments exactly). As Promised in the episode, you'll find the recipe for the "Mouth Orgasm Bombs, Up-Leveled below. About Nicole: A truth seeker since birth, Nicole has always known there was more to life than what meets the eye. Her life has been a mostly joyful, sometimes uncomfortable, quest to quench her thirst for meaning, healing, and love. She grew up learning various alternative healing modalities and spiritual traditions as a child. She has trained under shamans, yogis, wild women, and spirits on the other side. Her journey has led her to the simple but powerful truth that love is the ultimate medicine for all that ails us. She leads retreats worldwide, coaches individually, and leads online and in person workshops. She fuses ancient wisdom and a keen understanding of what ails the modern heart, body, and soul. Her powerful offerings have been described as "completely life changing" and "incredibly playful." Her work is to help the world wake up to love, while having a whole lot of fun along the way... And, she'll choose two people randomly to win a free mini-session with her, so be sure to click here and fill out the entry form!: https://forms.gle/ak9W27WAS5oV3CkVA If you'd like to receive an Instant Shift Session from Laura Christine, go here: https://beingboundless.teachable.com/p/instant-shift To enroll FREE in Being Boundless Basics and set a firm foundation for Boundlessness: https://beingboundless.teachable.com/p/basics Mouth Orgasm Bombs (Up-Leveled) 1 organic Medjool date, pitted and opened As much ghee (clarified butter) as your Boundless heart desires A pinch of salt (or none if your Macadamia nut as some on it, up to you) A Macadamia nut or two ~~Put as much ghee as you'd like onto the opened date. In this week's episode, we're joined by author, mental health expert, and professor David Bedrick as he discusses his revolutionary approach to dismantling shame and reclaiming our authentic selves. With his latest book, The Unshaming Way: A Compassionate Guide to Dismantling Shame, David offers a trauma-informed lens on how shame shapes our behaviors, often lurking in the shadows of emotions like anger and procrastination.David dives deep into the roots of shame, exploring how it forms when we experience trauma but are denied the space or tools to express ourselves. He emphasizes the importance of unshaming—inviting us to see our supposed flaws not as problems to be fixed, but as pathways to our own strength and authenticity. As we explore concepts from his new book, endorsed by Gabor Maté, we discuss practical tools for unlearning self-blame, understanding shame as an internal viewpoint, and living life aligned with our true selves.Whether you've struggled with shame or are simply curious about how it shows up in your life, this episode offers insightful ways to start your own unshaming journey.PRE-ORDER DAVID'S BOOK HERE > The Unshaming Way: A Compassionate Guide to Dismantling Shame--Heal From Trauma, Unlearn Self-Blame, and Reclaim Your Story ⬇️DAMN THE JOIN SHITSHOW - ADULT CHILD HEALING COMMUNITY⬇️https://theshitshow.mn.co4 weekly zoom support groups (Sun 3: 30 pm EST, Mon 8:30 pm EST, Tues 1 pm EST, & Thurs 8:30 pm EST)Support community at your fingertips with discussion boards and chat
