This week in the studio a man who spent six years as a Navy Seal until a horrific accident ended his career. My guest spent years trying rehabilitation, new scientific procedures, meditation, medicines, and pretty much anything that promised to help heal the injuries that we could see and the ones that were deeper that we could not see. My guest has been on a roller coaster of ups and downs since being medically retired from the service, but that's not where this story ends, my guest has risen through the ashes and has started the second chapter of his life, that at one point he was not sure was possible. He started Mack Belts with $50 dollars, a friends garage, and a spirit that would not give up or bow out. Fast forward his company now serves over 1500 customers and is the go to belt provider for active duty military, veterans, industrial workers, first responders, and a growing number of outdoorsmen. His company has given 10's of thousands of dollars to veterans charities and has current partnerships with Vet TV, Defense Strategies Group, Gallagher Holdings, and Guardian Grange. I am so happy and proud that this guest chose here to tell his story for the first time. I am proud to introduce you to my friend and the best leather craftsman in business Mack MacKinnon.

Topics discussed: What's On Your Mind: Matt draws a blank, but Troy and Chet get him talking about portrayals of combat and deployment in movies. My name is Sarah Sahutske and I am a 9 year United States Marine Corps veteran, serving from 2003 to 2012. I was stationed mostly within Southern California at MCAS Miramar and then at MCAGCC 29 Palms. I have 3 overseas deployments; Iraq in 2006 and back-to-back deployments to Afghanistan in 2010 & 2011. I worked primarily as a computer/network administrator and later had the opportunity to assist my unit on deployment as an aerial reconnaissance intel analyst. After deciding to exit the military in November 2012, I went on to study business and graduated from San Diego State University with my Bachelors of Science degree. I currently work at VET Tv as the Social Media Marketing Manager and have been with the company for a year now. VET Tv is an online streaming television network that creates humor for veterans by veterans. Our content is both entertaining and therapeutic. We call it Parody with a Purpose. We publish weekly episodes that parody the military experience for those who have served to offer therapeutic entertainment for the veteran community, in order to promote camaraderie and prevent veteran suicide. I now spend my time heavily involved in supporting the veteran community within San Diego. I enjoy volunteering to help other veteran-owned businesses and organizations become more connected with one another. I am also an official ambassador for Pin-Ups for Vets, where we visit the VA hospitals to visit our brothers and sisters who have no family or friends to come to visit them. We also sell calendars featuring female veterans posing as pin-ups to raise money for much needed medical equipment and you can find me featured as Miss August in the 2020 edition. Thanks a ton! Breaking down the psychological damage of war and combat deployments, VET Tv created a FREE... The post SPOTTER UP | EP. 31 |VET Tv pulls back the curtain on “Mental Health HELL and Wellness” appeared first on Spotter Up.
Donny O'Malley does not fit the typical mold of a U.S. Marine. Except for the part where Marines strive to be the absolute best at one thing: killing the enemy. In spite of being the type of person who never liked having a boss, and who was very entrepreneurial in nature, Donny O'Malley wanted to join the military and become a Marine, primarily so he could be the best at taking out bad people on the battlefield. And, after 9/11, that was all the motivation he needed for pulling the trigger, so to speak. His father however, convinced him to finish college and become a Marine officer. O'Malley took his father's advice, and would eventually serve in combat as an infantry officer, rifle platoon commander, and fire support team leader. Following his time in the Corps, O'Malley, who had already spent a significant amount of time mentally preparing himself for what he'd experience in combat, looked to humor as a means of maintaining good mental health, not just for himself but also for his fellow vets who were struggling. That motivation led him to becoming the founder and CEO of VET Tv, also known as Veteran Television, a streaming video on demand channel that has often been referred to as the Comedy Central of the military. VET Tv showcases the raw, dark military humor that has transformed dark days on the battlefield to brighter ones on and off screen. Host Tim K., sits down in Southern California at the Vet TV Studios with Donny O'Malley, the Founder of Irreverent Warriors and Vet TV. O'Malley served as a Captain in the USMC deploying to Afghanistan, shortly before being medically retired and ending his career in the Corps. Upon reentry into civilian society, O'Malley wrote the well-received "Embarrassing Confessions of a Marine Lieutenant: Operation Branding Iron." The book was so popular with fellow veterans that Donny decided to develop his satirical approach to serious issues, while raising awareness of the necessity of camaraderie in combatting veteran suicide. This development led to the genesis of his non-profit, Irreverent Warriors and their popular "Silkies Hikes" as well as a subscription based, streaming platform called "Vet TV." Join your host Tim K. (Founder of The Veterans Project and The Caregiver Project) as he speaks with Donny about developing an entrepreneurial approach, O'Malley's approach to comedy, reintegrative issues in the veteran community, and the value of sweat equity. Kevin Sullivan hosts the Twenty-One Gun Podcast, the official podcast of Irreverent Warriors. Kevin served our Nation as an Air Force Navigator and continues to serve as a veteran advocate. It was great to chat with Kevin about veteran issues, stress, podcasting, VET Tv, and silkies hikes. Listen in….From Kevin: Lately, we're hearing about 22 veteran suicides a day. It makes me wonder where I would have been a decade ago without the support of a loving family and resources to get back on my feet. How many veterans are left feeling alone and isolated in a sea of civilians who don't speak their language, understand their humor, or share common experiences? So I decided to bring the stories of Post-9/11 Veterans out in the open. I want veterans to share their stories of success and failures and to hopefully shed light on the fact that none of us are alone as long as we call ourselves veterans!#veteran #irreverentwarriors #silkiehike #vettv #silkieshikes #twentyonegunpodcast #veteranissues #22aday #usarmy #usairforce #usmarines #usnavy #uscoastguard #vetshelpvets @21gunpodcast @vet_tv @donnyomalley #gruntlife #vettvarmy #vettvnavy #vettvmarines #vettvairforce Twenty-One Gun Podcast: https://www.twentyonegun.net/ VET Tv: https://www.veterantv.tv/ Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/theprotectors)

Donny covers the process of growing his audience from nothing to 40,000 paid monthly subscribers by putting out content that resonates with his target audience. He goes on to share what it takes to create amazing content and how to effectively compete for attention against streaming giants like Netflix and Hulu. The first Kill The Quit episode of 2019 features one of our most creative guests yet. On this episode, we are joined by Donny O'Malley. Donny is not only a U.S. Marine veteran, but he is the creator/founder of VET TV. VET Tv is the first veteran television network full of dark, perverted, inappropriate, controversial, and irreverent military humor- created by and for veterans, without civilian influence. Host Mark Zinno and Donny talk about what led Donny to join the Marines, his father's plea to graduate college, what Donny wanted to change about the Marines, the dark comedy and creativity that fueled his book "Embarrassing Confessions of Marine Lieutenant: Operation Branding Iron 2.1A", the creation of VET TV, and more.
#38 brings, not only the creation story of VET TV but, some of the creative and administrative hiccups of starting a profitable business and a separate, incredible, non-profit. A former Marine Corps Captain, Donny has the exact equation to reach an emotional cord with the Veteran Community through Vet TV's Military Parodies. This episode is a little more explicit than some of our previous episodes but the message is stronger too. MOD: Strive everyday to become more open and accountable with the people you love most.... Call your Grandma. Donny O'Malley: Veterantv.tv @vet_tv @donnyomalley

There have been some guys in the veteran community who have made a really successful transition out of the military and into doing comedy that plays on their service. Mat Best comes to mind of course, and so does this guest, former Marine Infantry Officer, Donny O'Malley. Donny is not only a YouTube sensation, but he authored the book "Embarrassing Confessions of a Marine Lieutenant." We hear about his time captaining a wounded warrior battalion after college, as well as a hilarious anecdote from his failed attempt at being a teacher. Donny talks about his initial vision getting into comedy, and where it is now with his own company and subscription service, Vet TV. Donny's website is DonnyOMalley.com, and you can follow him on all social media platforms @DonnyOMalley. Jason and I also talk about the Alabama Senate race of Roy Moore VS Doug Jones (you'll hear whose prediction was correct as we recorded this the night of the election,) Dennis Rodman asking President Trump for a formal role as North Korea envoy (you know I like to seize on any opportunity to talk about The Worm,) and of course the failed terrorist attack on Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York City. GRP 53- Co-hosting for today's podcast is British Army Combat Medic Chantel Taylor. On for this podcast is retired USMC veteran Donny O'Malley. Donny is a combat veteran and has created VetTV. "VET Tv will be a streaming television network that functions exactly like Hulu or Netflix. It will be filled with all the shows that you’ve joked about with your buddies since the day you joined. We make shows that accurately recreate the post 9/11 veteran experience and we do it in the most realistic, offensive, and hilarious way possible. To fill up this network with shows that you want to see, we need your support and your vote, because if we don't fund this network, no one will." The deadline for the Kickstarter campaign to make you pledge will end tomorrow night Wednesday, Nov 16th. This is the first time ever a platform like this has been created so I highly encourage all of the shows listeners, and my followers on social media to contribute to this campaign. The link to do so will be accessible by clicking the post link below. Here is an excerpt from the episode. John: Donny you've recently retired from the Marine Corps, but you've got a lot going on with jumping into starting this company. Can you talk about your time in? Donny O' Malley: I joined on January 09 and got out in 2015. I joined when I was 25. It made for a very different experience for me as a Marine and as an Officer. I was coming into a very battle-hardened, salty, seasoned Marine Corps. All of the way down to the fucking Supply Clerks who were in convoys getting into firefights and blown up. Everybody had been to war. Coming into that was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I respected everybody. I was honored to walk into such a battle hardened Marine Corps. I wouldn't say I'm all hardcore battle hardened. I will say that I was never phased by my combat experiences. I was meant to do that job. Meant to go to war. I felt the happiest and content that I've ever felt in my life was in the midst of combat. Till this day I feel like I would never have that feeling again.
