Celebrating the 50th episode today, so a big thank you to all of my listeners who have stuck with me throughout this journey as Fully Nourished is seeking to continually improve how we view female physiology on the planes of the physical, the mental, and the spiritual.We are continuing our hormone series today, and we are going to take a deeper dive into plant foods, phytoestrogens, and functional fibers. I'm noticing another pendulum swing where people are beginning to over-demonize plants. There are nuanced examples where women are demonstrating benefits from cutting plants out of their diets, and my fear is that it will become the new fad diet that will push people back into the Carnivore diet, which we've already discussed, isn't ideal, especially for the female physiology. It is critical that we learn to live within the rhythm of our bodies and understand that the spectrum of what our bodies need will shift with the seasons. Instead of approaching our nourishment from a state of fight or flight, we need to sit with our bodies, rest, listen, and pay attention to truly give our bodies what they need. In this episode, we really dive deep into nourishment and the roles that phytoestrogens play in this process. Hypothalamic-pituitary-testicular axis disruptions in older men are differentially linked to age and modifiable risk factors: the European Male Aging Study. A 1% drop might not sound like much initially, but consider this: by the time you're 50, you could be looking at a decline of 20% or more. That's significant. Lower testosterone levels can lead to diminished energy, less muscle mass, a decreased sex drive, and even mood swings. Over time, this could affect your quality of life. You can't stop the clock, but you can buffer its effects. Excess Body Fat When it comes to testosterone, carrying excess weight is like a double-edged sword. So the more fat you have, the more of your limited testosterone is converted into estrogen. This inevitably leads to even lower levels of free testosterone in the body. On the other end, low testosterone can lead to an increase in body fat, setting off a self-perpetuating cycle. Although the liver may excrete some conjugated estrogens in bile, they are reabsorbed in the lower part of small intestine and returned to the liver via portal vein by a typical enterohepatic circulatory pattern. Estrogens are also metabolized by hydroxylation and subsequent methylation to form catechol and methoxylated estrogens. Hydroxylation of estrogens yields 2-hydroxyestrogens, 4-hydroxyestrogens, and 16α-hydroxyestrogens (catechol estrogens). The kidney is the main route of excretion of estrogenic metabolites.” THEN give encouragement that if these women consider these steps and execute then they have a much better chance at delaying menopause. Those heavy metals are in big enough chunks that your immune system cannot clear them. Sunshine will zap the large chunks of heavy metals. Total Cholesterol And All-Cause Mortality There's a study called: Total cholesterol and all-cause mortality by sex and age: a prospective cohort study among 12.8 million adults. You can check it out here: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-018-38461-y The research is very clear about optimal levels for total cholesterol. When you get above 200 on your cholesterol, doctors will tell you that you need statins as soon as possible. Jay takes the prescriptions and then throws them out. However, if your blood sugar's above 85, fasted, that's a threefold higher risk of heart disease. Anything above 85 is not considered optimal. Americans will come in at 95, and a cardiologist will ignore that. [16:30] The Optimal Ranges For Your Vitamin D Levels 30 – 70 or 30 – 100 are optimal ranges. The average American is at 30. As soon as you get below 50, you see associations with health issues. For instance, people will suffer from gut issues, chronic fatigue, and depression with those levels. If you are at 200, there is some risk of calcifying your arteries. Keep it between 50 and 100 for optimization. Getting in the sun will bump your levels up to 70 or 80. [19:50] The Issues With Sunscreen - How Safe Is Sunscreen? The main ingredient is oxybenzone. It's a manmade chemical, and it acts like estrogen in your body. You do not want to rub it on your skin. After one application of sunscreen, oxybenzone levels were above the government's safety levels even one week later. The government limits are absurd, anyway! Estrogen chemicals don't kill the cells because they act like estrogen. It will do a lot of weird things to the cell instead. Zinc is an excellent alternative for sunscreen. Most people are sleep-deprived. Jay will get an hour and a half of deep sleep and an hour and a half of REM sleep. In college, Dr. Jay would sleep three hours a night. He would brag about it! Infrared lights will help you sleep way better. Also, the colder the bedroom, the deeper sleep you will get. Intermittent fasting will also help with your immune system. That way, your cells can take out the trash. Sunshine is another way to improve your immune system. Don't forget to get your skin in the sun – take those shirts off! [36:45] Why You Might Want To Think Twice About The Covid Vaccines When researchers do all these studies for pharmaceutical companies and come out with a drug, they don't actually have to release that study. When someone has an adverse reaction to a drug, the company has to release the study. With vaccines, the companies do not have to release the studies. So, the general public has not been able to see the vaccine study. We cannot see the study on the vaccine; that's a red flag. Also, this vaccine is very experimental. If the chemicals in these vaccines were in cleaning products, we wouldn't use them. [42:20] Unfortunately, The Vaccines Could Be Manipulating Your Epigenetics These vaccines could be messing with our epigenetics. There's a cool epigenetic study where they actually use electricity and zap rats every time they smell cherry blossoms. Cherry blossoms smell good, but the zap gave them an aversion to the blossoms. The offspring of the rats would have a fear response to cherry blossoms. Epigenetics is super powerful.   [45:30] Covid-19 In America: It's Time To Wake The [BLEEP] Up! The only positive lining in this whole Covid thing is it's woken a lot of people up to how much shenanigans goes on behind the scenes. Sadly, scientists are manipulating data. There are foods, supplements and activities that stimulate testosterone production, Just as there are foods, supplements and activities that lower your internal T production. Today I would like to address the factors that increase the production of testosterone in both men and women.   However, there are limitations on these nonmedical pathways to a higher testosterone level: 1. One is your age. If you are a woman and menopausal then there are no foods or lifestyle changes that will stimulate your ovary to come back to life and make testosterone.  Women have a finite lifespan for their production of estradiol and testosterone, and it ends at menopause.  Estrogens can be made in the fat and the adrenal but pure testosterone is only made in the ovary, and when the ovaries “die” that's the end of testosterone production. 2. Men make testosterone throughout their lives, but their testes become resistant to stimulation around age 55, but they can become resistant as early as age 40, and then nothing other than T replacement will increase testosterone levels. 3. A person's body has a genetically driven sensitivity to the hormone Testosterone. Your heritage or the origin of your ancestors determine how you will “feel” with a particular blood level of testosterone. This has been studied by looking at the genetics of the T receptor on all the cells of your body. Receptors are more sensitive the closer you get to the equator in the western hemisphere, and the receptors are less sensitive if your ancestors' origin was closer to the north and south poles than if they were from around the equator.  A certain level of testosterone doesn't have the same effect testosterone on both groups.  In other words, those genes from around the equator need less testosterone to get the same effect as those people from extreme high and low latitudes. We are all different and our genes have an effect on our treatment. If you are a menopausal woman or over 40 then the manipulations of diet and exercise will be less likely to increase your testosterone production. There are foods and activities that inherently stimulate your internal testosterone production if you are a woman under 40 or a man under 50.  After that you generally must replace your T to improve your symptoms of low Testosterone. Eating fewer fast foods and more of a well-balanced Mediterranean diet with fresh foods can optimize your testosterone production. High protein diets with grass fed animal foods and plenty of fish will optimize your testosterone production. Cholesterol containing foods provide the necessary building blocks for Testosterone in the body. Getting to your ideal weight will increase the free Testosterone in your blood stream making you feel your testosterone more. Getting 7-8 hours of sleep a night will increase the production of T, because T production is stimulated at night when you sleep. Sleeping in a dark room stimulates the production of Testosterone, Growth hormone (muscle development) and Melatonin (deep sleep). Daily moderate Exercise (not necessarily running a marathon) will stimulate your production of Testosterone. Supplements can stimulate production of Testosterone. There are several supplements targeted to stimulate testosterone that contain carnitine, inositol, choline. Protein in the diet provides the building blocks of muscle and testosterone and allow the activities and foods that stimulate the production of T have something to build with. People with a low protein diet (no eggs, fish, beans, milk products or meat) have a more difficult time making T. Most combination supplements that are touted on TV to increase your T are herbs and supplements that decrease estrogens like DIM, or supplements that increase your T by providing the hormones that are precursors to T like Pregnenalone and DHEA. Herb Fenugreek 500 mg increases free T production Decrease in DHT with the herb Saw Palmetto can decrease the production of DHT and increase free Testosterone, however it is important not to decrease the DHT too much because it is important in sex drive and building muscle. Ashwagandha decreases cortisol, and cortisol binding protein that inactivates T, therefore it can increase free T. If you are taking T supplementation, then don't take this supplement because it can cause you to not feel your free T. Zinc piccolate and Arginine improves prostate function and health, therefore your volume of ejaculate increases, and free testosterone is improved as well Lastly supplements that increase your erectile function by increasing Nitric Oxide e.g.  Neo 40.
