Developed in the mid-1970s by Dr. Fritz Smith, zero balancing incorporates elements of Western medicine and Eastern practices to address both physical and emotional traumas trapped within the body. Dr. Doucette explains how these traumas, both significant and seemingly minor, can manifest in physical ailments and chronic conditions. She also elucidates the role of zero balancing in releasing these patterns of tension and fostering a holistic union of body, mind, and spirit. Throughout the session, listeners will learn about the intricate connection between our physical structure and our energetic state, and how zero balancing can be a pivotal element in pursuit of comprehensive health and healing. Tune in to explore how addressing deep-rooted traumas can lead to profound changes in your overall wellbeing. Studying chiropractic at Los Angeles College of Chiropractic gave me an excellent medical education, and the skills to amplify the natural healing ability of the body through spinal evaluation and adjustment.  I augmented that education with specialized training in the Gonstead Chiropractic Technique which involves in-depth bio-mechanical analysis and specific, directional adjusting techniques for optimum effectiveness and efficiency of healing.  I started my chiropractic practice in 1990 and soon thereafter began to study Zero Balancing as well.  Zero Balancing is a unique, hands-on, bodywork system of healing.  It combines the Western view of medicine and science from the field of osteopathy with Eastern concepts of energy and healing from the field of acupuncture.  ZB affects the whole person (body, mind, and spirit) by providing both structural therapy and energy medicine simultaneously, and thereby accessing the body's “interoceptive” mechanism of conscious awareness, self-referencing, and physical, as well as psychoemotional, resilience.  It is life changing for patient and practitioner.  One of my strongest passions is teaching Zero Balancing to other healthcare providers and anyone who wants to learn about the power of conscious touch and energy medicine.  I am on the faculty of the Zero Balancing Health Association and teach classes internationally.    Connect with Dr. Seth Osgood To learn more about Dr. Seth Osgood and the GrassRoots Adaptation Program, head over to www.grassrootsfunctionalmedicine.com Join the GrassRoots Facebook community at: https://www.facebook.com/groups/grassrootsfuntionalmedicine

What are peptides and how can they benefit your wellbeing?  Although peptides are short chains of amino acids linked by peptide bonds they pack a powerful punch! In this episode, Seth and Mike discuss: How peptides work The role peptides play in the body Why Grassroots Functional Medicine uses peptide therapy with their patients How peptides should be used in conjunction with other modalities to increase health The history of peptide use in various therapeutic settings Who can benefit from peptide therapy The 2 strategies used when administering peptide therapy How safe is peptide therapy About Mike Horner  - Health Coach at Grassroots Functional Medicine Mike earned his BS in Animal Sciences at UVM, he pursued his passion for paramedicine, and worked as a Nationally Registered Paramedic for 35 years. Through this experience, he observed up close how sedentary lifestyles, poor nutritional choices, toxic environments and poor stress management skills created an explosion of chronic disease. He saw that unfortunately, most people who become chronically ill seem to remain chronically ill, cycling from one medical specialist to the next, without the support or expectation of ever recovering. He has since navigated his own health crisis', personally experiencing the benefits of regular exercise, healthy eating and a positive mindset. The number of prescriptions for antidepressants and anti-anxiety medications is through the roof, but there are other treatment options that are much safer and more effective! My guest today is Ashley Mannell. Ashley is a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and Registered Dietitian in Richmond, Virginia. She's certified in functional medicine, and recently became certified in mind-body medicine. Listen today as Seth and Ashley discuss a functional medicine approach to mental health and how looking at all of the interconnected systems in your body can uncover what's really behind anxiety and depression.   In this episode, Seth and Ashley discuss: Getting to the root cause and fixing the issue is what leads to long-term resolution.  Doling out medication just suppresses the symptom. When you take the medication, the symptoms go away, but when you stop, the symptoms come back.  Your brain and neurotransmitters need the right fuel to function. Some nutrient deficiencies, including zinc, B vitamins, and magnesium are linked to depression. 90% of serotonin is made in the gut. If patients have an imbalance in the digestive tract from poor nutrition, lack of enzymes, an infection, an overgrowth, or an allergy, they often feel substantially better after addressing it. There is a very complex relationship between estrogen, progesterone, neurotransmitters, and the brain. Fixing issues in one area can restore balance in another. Ashley's health tip: Get up and move your body. Exercise is the best antidepressant! Get out for a walk 15 minutes a day. Episode 3: Understanding PANS & PANDAS with Dr. Emily Gutierrez

“It's like they became a different child overnight.” I've heard this heartbreaking refrain from many parents of children with PANS or PANDAS. They have often gone from a happy and easy-go-lucky child to struggling with severe OCD, anxiety, picky eating, and even bedwetting. Their pediatrician is stumped, the parents are terrified and frustrated, and everyone is desperate to know what is going on. In the case of PANS/PANDAS, the child's brain is literally under attack by the immune system due to an autoimmune reaction to an infection (usually strep or Lyme). The good news is that, as with all autoimmune conditions, it's possible to identify the factors causing the attack and stop the reactivity. I'm thrilled to have Dr. Emily Gutierrez on the podcast this week to dive into PANS and PANDAS and how to diagnose and treat them. Dr. Gutierrez received her doctorate of nursing practice from Johns Hopkins University and is also a certified pediatric nurse practitioner and functional medicine provider. She specializes in pediatric neurological conditions, including PANS, PANDAS, and autism. In this episode, Seth and Emily discuss: What is PANS & PANDAS? PANDAS stands for the pediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric disorder related to streptococcus - strep throat. PANS or PANDAS is a clinical diagnosis; a comprehensive evaluation is critical The earlier the intervention, the better the outcome with pandas, or anything chronic and autoimmune in children. What Dr. Gutierrez recommends for parents if they suspect PANS or PANDAS? Free PANS/PANDAS screening questionnaire. Dr. Gutierrez's health tip: If your child has a sudden onset of these regressive type symptoms that we talked about, like OCD, anxiety, food restriction, etc. Please go to your pediatrician and have them swab their throat. About Dr. Emily Gutierrez Dr. Gutierrez is the founder of Neuronutrition Associates, one of the first pediatric functional medicine practices in the United States. She has written a book, "The Parents Roadmap to Autism: A Functional Medicine Approach" and is also a seasoned published writer and speaker.
