Today I'm speaking to Janice Niersted–Keegan from Maryland, USA. Janice is a sign language interpreter, is a married mum of two and eating disorder recovery warrior. Janice started her first diet and compulsively exercising when only 11 years old. At 14 years old, her eating continued to be restrictive, and this developed into bulimia from 15 to 21 years. In the episode today, Janice shares about her recovery journey from bulimia, talking us through the combination of individual and group therapy that she experienced; the impact of diet culture and supportive friendship, and then onto how she developed a healthy relationship with movement, focusing more on what her body could do, rather than aesthetics. Today she enjoys trapeze and fully embraces joyful movement! She has also truly found her community and sense of purpose in the world. Janice has been recovered now for many years and in her job as sign language interpreter, her favourite type of interpretation is 12 steps addiction recovery and mental health. She also loves listening to podcasts, learning and reading about eating disorders and in personal growth. I hope that you enjoy the conversation. To get in touch with Janice: - Janicelynn3@gmail.com

In this episode, William Grazione, Coach Gillis Pellegrin, and Coach Zach Richie continue discussing Bodybuilding Competition Prep with actionable steps to take after the competition. This bonus content includes examining a reverse diet vs. a recovery diet to implement immediately after competing, along with the pros and cons of each. Another point within this is setting up expectations that people will - and should gain weight after a competition. What is critical is setting up parameters for that. Will, Gillis, and Zach will also touch on whether or not you can start building muscle right away after a competition and how to shift your mindset from focusing on the scale to focusing on athletic performance and bringing your body back to hormonal balance.

In this episode myself and our Head Performance Coach Farshad Sarrafi talk methods of reversing out of a show or a dieting phase in general. Why this is such an important aspect that many first time competitors don't take seriously. We go in depth on how exactly to transition from dieting back into lean gaining as best as possible.
Whether COVID-19 hit you hard (like me) with your food relationships or you've been in a chronic caloric deficit for awhile, it takes a toll on both your physiology and psychology. You may not even know you've been under eating for a long time. I believe in looking at the whole picture both body and mind if we want to live an elite life. Charlotte Jones is back with us today to discuss this very topic. Since January, she's taken her business fully online and has come across this issue a lot. She also has personal experience and a journey to share as well that I know you'll enjoy. Why do traditional addiction recovery programs have such terrible success rates? Talk therapy, group sessions, working the steps, etc. are key components to health in sobriety, but is something missing? The Addiction Nutritionist, Kelly Miller, explains that trying to recover without a nutrition plan designed to repair the damage done in addiction is like trying to build a house without a solid foundation. Kelly explains the Recovery Diet and how eating the right foods restores our damaged neurotransmitter function. We discuss hypoglycemia, the bio types of alcoholism, gut health, the role of amino acids in recovery and the wrong advice that is so commonly given to people in early sobriety. The information Kelly shares is so fundamental it is astonishing how under-discussed nutrition is in the world of recovery. Have a little fun with this episode - try to count how many times Jason and Matt say, "Fascinating!" Kelly's website is TheAddictionNutritionist.com, her page is The Addiction Nutritionist on facebook, and she is @theaddictionnutritionist on Instagram. She can be contacted at Kelly@TheAddictionNutritionist.com.

In this episode, Eric Helms, Jeff Alberts, and Andrea Valdez talk about the post-contest recovery diet phase.
