Move #2 of Keith's bday selection is one that has haunted him since he was one of the extremely few people to view it in a cinema at the time: The End of Violence (1997).Starring Bill Pullman, Gabriel Byrne, Andie MacDowell, Traci Lind, Loren Dean, with notable support roles by Rosalind Chao, John Diehl, Pruitt Taylor Vince, K. Todd Freeman, Nicole Ari Parker, Marshall Bell, Marisol Padilla Sanchez, Henry Silva, to name but a few. A treatise on the rise and fall of the popularity of violence? The function of media in a surveillance state? A meta-commentary on Hollywood? So many things it comes close to being... Plus we discuss the pros & cons of: rippled chips, shampooing techniques, and sad Irish dog faces. +++++ Outro: Lorn performing Everything is ViolenceTheme by Professor Ping available on Bandcamp --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/zandkmoviepod/support

Sophie Paluch and Mis Trujillo from Auddy return to Flixwatcher remotely to review Sophie's choice Constantine. Constantine is a 2005 adaptation of DC Comic's Hellblazer comic book based on the character created by Alan Moore. Directed by Francis (I am Legend) Lawrence it stars Keanu Reeves as John Constantine, an exorcist who can communicate with angels and demons and travel between earth and hell. It also stars Rachel Weisz as Angela, a LAPD detective investigating the suicide of her twin sister, Tilda Swinton as a half breed Archangel Gabriel, Peter Stormare as Satan/Lucifer, Pruitt Taylor Vince as Father Hennessy, Djimon Hounsou as witch doctor Papa Midnite, Shia LaBeouf as Constant's driver Chas Kramer and Gavin Rossdale as a half breed demon Balthazar. Perhaps unfairly reviewed when it came out, Constantine has since found a loyal and enthusiastic fanbase and a sequel was announced to be in the works in late 2022 with Keanu and Francis Lawrence returning. Recommendability scores for Constantine were pretty generous, some dodgy CGI helped bump up the overall score as they are best seen on a small screen which gives an overall rating of 3.74. The passing of Ray Liotta was most certainly unexpected. He was sixty-seven years old and had been having a career rejuvenation with roles both in television and movies. His meteoric rise to fame was the 1990 Martin Scorsese film GOODFELLAS. Soon after he was one of Hollywood's most recognizable names. In 2003, award winning director James Mangold gave him a co-starring role in his film IDENTITY. When a group of travelers get caught in a torrential rainstorm in the remote area of Nevada, each lands up at a broken down motel to spend the night. Unfortunately, an accident occurs leading to one person at deaths door. To add to the drama, a police officer traveling with a violent murderer has to spend the night as well. Unfortunately patrons begin to die making each wonder who is the culprit. Besides Ray Liotta, the film stars John Cusack, Rebecca De Mornay, Amanda Peet, John Hawkes, John C. McGinley, Jake Busey, Alfred Molina, and Pruitt Taylor Vince. IDENTITY, gaining great reviews on its initial release, has slowly grown a cult following with its many twists and turns. Dark Discussions Podcast takes a look at the movie and pays tribute to acting great, Ray Liotta.

The films also stars Rachel Weisz, Shia LaBeouf, Tilda Swinton, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Djimon Hounsou, Gavin Rossdale, and Peter Stormare. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/markthepoet/message

Identity was James Mangold's first opportunity to direct a film based on a script he didn't write. The screenplay, written by Michael Cooney, was inspired by Agatha Christie's “And Then There Were None,” but adds some twists to the story that take it in a new direction. Mangold was immediately attracted to the material because he relished the opportunity to tell what is essentially a closed room mystery. The film is taut and a thrill of a ride, but it certainly became a love it or hate it type of movie because of the big twists it takes. Join us – Pete Wright and Andy Nelson – as we wrap up our brief ‘Spoiled. Rotten? Twist Endings' series with Mangold's 2003 film Identity. Here's a hint at what we talk about. The twists in this film work for us, but why don't they work for so many others? Do you just have to buy into the bonkers made-up science presented here for it to succeed? The cast is great, but why does Pete have such an issue with Clea Duvall's and William Lee Scott's characters? We totally forget to talk about Pruitt Taylor Vince's fantastically creepy eyes. Turns out it's a condition called nystagmus and he's used it as often as he can to be cast or to enhance his roles. Do the plot threads with no payoffs create problems for us, particularly when the story begins pointing at the supernatural? This film's a great reminder as to why we love John Hawkes so much. And the fact that it's a fun film Mangold provides for us that doesn't take itself seriously and really goes all-in on the crazy world set up. We have a great time talking about it as our season wrap-up. Check it out then tune in! The Next Reel – when the movie ends, our conversation begins! This week, the Damn Dirty Geeks take control again! Frank Dietz, Trish Geiger, Scott Weitz, Jack Bennett and Frank Woodward sit down with actors Jennifer Lynn Warren (American Horror Story) and Pruitt Taylor Vince (The Walking Dead, Stranger Things) for part 3 of a chat about their careers. All this and a mutant sloth wondering where the hell he went last week, on this week's episode of The Damn Dirty Drive-In!
In the third and final installment, we resolve our Part 2 cliffhanger with our in-depth conversation with Jennifer Lynn Warren and Pruitt Taylor Vince. We also begin with an emotional discussion about the BBC Dr. Who series. Jennifer is moved to tears by the character River Song (played by Alex Kingston) and explains how she puts that emotion to good use. Next Frank Dietz and Jennifer compare notes on having to appear naked on screen and on stage. We talk about the difference between being nude in front of a live audience (as in the play “Equus”) and the experience of stripping down for a feature film. Following a lively round table discussion of the current state of television series, Pruitt admits that he has never seen a Julia Roberts movie and can’t make it all the way through CADDYSHACK – which prompts some questionable Rodney Dangerfield impressions. Jack wants to know from our distinguished guests what movies they saw when younger that impacted their decisions to become actors. We close out by paying tribute to two genre giants who left us last year. First actor and friend James Karen, who starred in POLTERGEIST, RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD and the Trish Geiger produced DARK AND STORMY NIGHT. This leads to a sidebar discussion with Scott about Karen's dear friend, the great Buster Keaton. Then we honor Stan Lee, the creator of Spider-man and lord and master of the Marvel comics universe whose work and collaborators have made a huge impact on popular culture. It’s another episode filled with laughs and surprises, with two terrific actors who are so entertaining we couldn’t squeeze them into just two episodes. Look for photos and show notes on this episode at our Damn Dirty Geeks website.

In Part Two of our conversation with actors Pruitt Taylor Vince and Jennifer Lynn Warren, we tackle the trickier aspects of film and stage acting. Jennifer discusses the difficult transitions of taking on an emotionally challenging character, and Pruitt talks about surviving some of the more physically demanding roles. The Geeks get to geek out about some of Pruitt’s high-profile television and movie appearances, from THE WALKING DEAD to STRANGER THINGS to DEADWOOD to THE X FILES and more. Pruitt also tells the gang about working with the legendary Paul Newman on NOBODY’S FOOL, and Jennifer doesn’t get to finish a story…which will be continued in our next episode, Part Three of this amazing discussion! Our first cliffhanger! Visit our website www.damndirtygeeks.com for episode show notes and more photos from Pruitt and Jennifer's work.

In 2005, there was a movie that came along that changed everything we thought we knew about comic book movies. That film was Batman Begins...and Sin City...and V for Vendetta...and Fantastic Four...and CONSTANTINE! Based on the Hellblazer comic from DC, John Constantine (Keanu Reeves) is some sort of exorcist that is loosely tied to the church who acts as a mercenary in the invisible fight between good and evil. Although the lines between good and evil may not be as solid as you thought… Ultimately, this was a pretty fun movie to rewatch. Keanu plays his lovable, flawed, down-on-his-luck hero oh so well. I'm not historically a Rachel Weisz fan, but she does a fine job as Angela/Isabel Dodson, a cop who is using John to get to the bottom of her twin sister's murder/suicide. Shia LeBoeuf does a great job as the quintessential sidekick. Tilda Swinton plays Gabriel, the half-angel that is looking to bring an end to the war, one way or another. Gavin Rossdale surprisingly steals the show as Balthazar the half-demon who is trying to facilitate the invasion of earth by the son of Satan. Now, we don't meet the son of Satan, but we do meet the Prince of Darkness himself, played by none other that Peter Stormare. Add to that some fun characters played by Djimon Hounsou and Pruitt Taylor Vince, and this movie has all of the ingredients for a solid film, and it gets there. But just barely. I don't know what could have been done differently, but this ended up being a C+, when it could have been an A. The duo discuss the 2015 occult horror film "The Devil's Candy," as they begin The Devil Made Me Do It Month. We got Ethan Embry as Jesse, a struggling artist dedicated to his family, his workout regime, and not bathing or shaving, squaring off-against Pruitt Taylor Vince as Ray, the lonesome character you would feel was essentially just a scared little boy if he wasn't in the body of a big ole sweaty hunk of man. Join us for sympathetic police officers, filthy undershirts, an extremely short run time, pretty-sweet-Devil-but kinda-corny heavy metal imagery, and a silly art-seller subplot at HAIL SATAN GALLERIES.

The Damn Dirty Geeks had so much fun talking career projects, favorite movies, geek inspirations and monsters with our two special guests, Jennifer Lynn Warrenand Pruitt Taylor Vince-- we recorded for over three hours -- that we had to split their podcast episode into two parts! We open 2019 with Part 1 of this great episode, recorded just before the DDG went on holiday break, talking with these terrific and successful actors. You've seen Pruitt most recently in BIRD BOX on Netflix, among his many TV appearances including STRANGER THINGS, AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D., THE MENTALIST, TRUE BLOOD, DEADWOOD and THE WALKING DEAD to name a few. Fans of Pruitt's film work will know him from memorable feature roles in JFK, JACOB'S LADDER, NOBODY'S FOOL, NATURAL BORN KILLERS, ANGEL HEART and DOWN BY LAW. DDG listeners will likely know Jennifer's work best from AMERICAN HORROR STORY Season 3 as Borquita LaLaurie opposite Kathy Bates, the Fox series THE GATES, and the short film CREATURE which inspired a harrowing tale of her unintended interaction with a wild alligator! Our Part 1 discussion also delivers great insights from Jennifer and Pruitt on the beginnings of their careers, and what moments and influences in life helped set them on the path to "find their tribe" among actors on stage and film. This includes Pruitt's story about how he got into acting by accident, and how the group considers Boris Karloff's performance in FRANKENSTEIN as one of the most influential acting performances in cinema. Then we all get into a fascinating exchange about the history of horror movies, classic and modern, and how their mythologies play into franchises and sequels -- and how horror cycles transition into comedy and parody film cycles. Enjoy our first hour of great discussion on acting, filmmaking and entertainment with Jennifer and Pruitt in our first Damn Dirty Geeks episode of 2019 -- with Part 2 coming soon!

For episode 19, join Maegan, Mary Kay, Mary, and special guest Eric Skwarczynski from Gut Reactions Podcast, as they discuss Devil’s Candy. They answer questions like: what the appropriate reaction is when a stranger comes to your door and offers you a guitar, are butterflies metal and what do they have to do with government mind control experiments, and ultimately (and most importantly) if they would buy a murder house. Devil’s Candy (2015) – Directed and written by Sean Byrne. Starring Ethan Embry, Shiri Appleby, Pruitt Taylor Vince.Genre: Horror, Supernatural, Thriller, Suspense Where to watch: Netflix Plot (*contains spoilers*): “A struggling painter moves his family into a house with a horrific past and soon finds himself being artistically inspired by demonic forces. Late at night in a countryside house, Raymond Smilie hears an ominous voice. He reacts by playing his red Flying V loudly in front of a crucifix. His mother enters his room and unplugs the guitar. When Ray awkwardly explains he plays to avoid hearing "Him," she says he needs to return to the hospital. Ray continues to hear the voice and kills her. Shortly after, a man enters the house and sees the dead woman.Sometime later, the house is sold to Jesse Hellman, a struggling painter, his wife Astrid and their daughter Zooey. The real estate agent says that the women who lived there died when she fell down the stairs, and her husband killed himself out of despair. Elsewhere, Ray checks into a motel. He listens to tapes preaching about the Devil and plays his guitar. When a noise complaint brings a police officer to his room, Ray stops playing. After settling into the house, Jesse starts hearing the same voices as Jesse. Inspired, he paints a black and white painting based on an upside down cross motif. Jesse later approaches Belial, an art gallery whose owner Leonard previously turned away his portfolio. At his insistence, the receptionist looks at the scan of the painting and appears pleased. One evening, Ray shows up and has a brief conversation with Zooey, who tells him she would love to have a Flying V. Ray wants to enter the house, but an angry Jesse turns him away. The next morning, Zooey and Jesse find Ray's Flying V outside their house, but Jesse refuses to let her keep it. Elsewhere, Ray kidnaps a boy. He carries the boy to a motel room, cuts up his body and puts it in a suitcase. Ray buries the boy in a hole already filled with several suitcases. Meanwhile, Jesse paints a new painting with distorted faces of children - including the one Ray killed. Immersed in his work, he forgets to pick up Zooey at school, and to appease her, he lets her keep Ray's guitar. Jesse keeps working on the painting, which depicts the children's heads being devoured by a black creature and adds Zooey being burned alive. He tells a horrified Astrid that the he feels the children inside him screaming to be let out.At night, Ray sneaks into Zooey’s bedroom. He covers her mouth and explains that "He" wants her, but Ray is trying to avoid hurting her. Zooey agrees to stay quiet, but then screams, alerting Astrid and Jesse. Ray flees. The Hellman’s go to the police, who suggest they change the locks. The next day, Leonard arrives to see Jesse's latest work. Pleased with the painting, Leonard offers to become his patron, with the privileges it brings. Jess cuts the meeting short in order to rush to pick up Zooey at school, but his car breaks down, and he runs to the school. Zooey is nowhere to be found. In Ray's motel bathroom, Zooey is tied up with duct tape. Ray
