He was 71. Hurt's death was confirmed to Variety by his friend, Gerry Byrne. His son Will said in a statement, “It is with great sadness that the Hurt family mourns the passing of William Hurt, beloved father and Oscar winning actor, on March 13, 2022, one week before his 72nd birthday. He died peacefully, among family, of natural causes.” Hurt was nominated for four Oscars over the course of his long career, scoring two best actor nominations for “Broadcast News” and “Children of a Lesser God” and a supporting actor nod for less than 10 minutes of screen time in “A History of Violence.” He was one of the most heralded performers of the 1980s, becoming something of a cerebral sex symbol and a reluctant, albeit bankable, movie star. Hurt later transitioned into character roles in the 1990s and successfully alternated between big screen projects and television, scoring Emmy nominations for his work as a whistleblower in “Damages” and his portrayal of Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson in “Too Big to Fail.” More recently, Hurt became well known to a younger generation of movie lovers with his portrayal of the no-nonsense General Thaddeus Ross in 2008's “The Incredible Hulk.” He later reprised the role in “Captain America: Civil War” and “Avengers: Infinity War,” “Avengers: Endgame” and “Black Widow.” MCU – MARVEL STUDIOS Box Spider-Man: No Way Home (bra: Homem-Aranha: Sem Volta para Casa; prt: Homem-Aranha: Sem Volta a Casa)[4][5] é um filme de super-herói americano baseado no personagem Homem-Aranha da Marvel Comics, co-produzido pela Columbia Pictures e Marvel Studios, e distribuído pela Sony Pictures Releasing. É a sequência de Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) e Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), e o vigésimo sétimo filme do Universo Cinematográfico Marvel (UCM).
Today on the show we have one-half of the writing team that wrote the record-breaking Marvel film Spider-Man: No Way Home, Erik Sommers. For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero's identity is revealed, bringing his Super Hero responsibilities into conflict with his normal life and putting those he cares about most at risk. When he enlists Doctor Strange's help to restore his secret, the spell tears a hole in their world, releasing the most powerful villains who've ever fought a Spider-Man in any universe. Now, Peter will have to overcome his greatest challenge yet, which will not only forever alter his own future but the future of the Multiverse. In addition Sommers co-wrote scripts for Spider-Man: Homecoming, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Spider-Man: Far From Home, The Lego Batman Movie and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle with Chris McKenna. Erik started his career in television and wrote on the ground-breaking show Community under show runner Dan Harmon (Rick and Morty).Erik tells me how working with Dan changed how he wrote and how he uses Dan Harmon's Story Circle in his writing today. We discuss how he got the Spider-man gig, how he writes with his partner Chris, what it's like working inside the Marvel Studios machine and dealing with the pressure of writing Spider-Man.I watched the new Spider-Man and I have to say it's the best Spider-Man film yet. Get ready to have your nostalgia heart-strings pulled in the best way possible. Erik and Chris did a fantastic job writing the stand-alone film, while still weaving in the larger MCU narrative, not an easy thing to do.Enjoy my conversation with Erik Sommers.
On the January 3, 2022 episode of /Film Daily, /Film editorial director Peter Sciretta is joined by /Film news writer Ryan Scott to talk about Spider-Man: No Way Home, including how the film is destroying box office records and some spoiler reveals from the screenwriters. Opening Banter: Happy New Year! In The News: Ryan: Spider-Man: No Way Home Swings Past Black Panther At The Box OfficeTop 10 movies of all time: Spider-Man: No Way Home Set To Become One Of The Top 10 Highest-Grossing Movies This Weekend Worldwide victory over Black Panther now guaranteed to pass $1.5 billion, but will it cross $2 billion? Will it overtake infinity war? What about everything else? Spoiler warning for Spider-Man: No Way Home. Peter (og Jeremy): Venom Was Nearly In Spider-Man: No Way Home's Final BattleIn an interview with Variety, Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers spilled the details on how, at one point in the process, Hardy's Venom could've played a much more active role in the story — possibly even appearing during the final battle. The pair admit that they "definitely discussed" this possibility, though obviously the creative team didn't pursue this any further. Are we happy that Venom didnt have a larger role? Will we ever see him and hollands spiderman face off? Ryan (og Ben S): Spider-Man: No Way Home Almost Had Another Marvel Character Bring In The Film's Special Guestsscreenwriters Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna revealed that initially another character was meant to bring the other Spider-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. "They are brought by a Marvel character going, 'Here are the saving graces and they're going to help you through this,'" says McKenna. "It was just more of a deus ex machina." Who was the character? This change came late in the game of production. The crew was already two months into filming when Sommers and McKenna had to take another stab at the third act. Since this was the most crucial moment in the whole movie, they were afraid that they were going to mess it up. Doctor Strange Norman Osborn might've found them around the city when he was cruising around on his Green Goblin glider. Eddie Brock, AKA Venom. Wong. The new Sorcerer Supreme Peter (og Valarie): Spider-Man: No Way Home Writers Address The Logistics Of Doctor Strange's Final SpellIn an interview with Variety, the film's co-writers, Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, said "Obviously, some sort of magical redaction has occurred," "At the end of all this, we didn't want a lot of people trying to do magical math in their head," McKenna says, explaining that the donut shop scene should leave us thinking first and foremost about the sacrifice Peter made for his friends. "If people have questions about some of those details that didn't get answered here, we'll answer them hopefully in another movie somewhere down the line," For now, the writer wanted to "just focus on the emotion of it." So how do you think this spell ultimately works? Ryan (og Jeremy): Spider-Man: No Way Home Writers Considered Credits Scenes With [REDACTED]McKenna says about possibly bringing back the previous versions of Spider-Man for future appearances down the line: "I would hope so! I would love to see more of their journey. We even talked about, 'Oh, we could do a [post-credits] tag with this one! We could do a tag with that one!'" On this week's episode, Sonny is joined by Chris McKenna who, along with his writing partner Erik Sommers, wrote Spider-Man: No Way Home, which has grossed about $1.2 billion around the world … so far. In this in-depth interview, Chris discusses how a blockbuster of this nature gets made, from pitch meetings to brainstorming sessions to rewrites during the shoot to additional photography to tightening the ship following test screenings. We also talk a bit about the state of the business and why it'll be a real bummer if the theatrical experience dies off. Plus, we learn that a very special Spider-Villain is a listener of this podcast! (Or, well, has listened to AN episode.)

Aprende Disney/Pixar. É a sequência de Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) e Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), e o vigésimo sétimo filme do Universo Cinematográfico Marvel (UCM). In the film, Parker asks Dr. Stephen Strange (Cumberbatch) to make his identity as Spider-Man a secret again with magic following its public revelation in Far From Home, but this breaks open the multiverse, allowing supervillains from alternate realities who have fought versions of Parker to enter his universe A third MCU Spider-Man film was planned during the production of Homecoming in 2017. By August 2019, negotiations between Sony and Marvel Studios to alter their deal—in which they produce the Spider-Man films together—ended with Marvel Studios leaving the project; however, a negative fan reaction led to a new deal between the companies a month later. Filming began in October 2020 in New York City before moving to Atlanta that month and wrapping in March 2021. No Way Home explores the concept of the multiverse and ties the MCU to past Spider-Man film series, with numerous actors—including previous Spider-Man actors Maguire and Garfield—reprising their roles from the Spider-Man films directed by Sam Raimi and Marc Webb. The return of Maguire and Garfield was the subject of speculation, and Sony, Marvel, and the cast attempted to conceal their involvement despite numerous leaks. Spider-Man: No Way Home premiered at the Fox Village Theatre in Los Angeles on December 13, 2021, and was theatrically released in the United States on December 17, as part of Phase Four of the MCU. The film received positive reviews for the cast's performances and chemistry, screenplay, emotional weight, direction, action sequences, cinematography, and score. It set several pandemic box office records and has grossed over $587 million worldwide, becoming the sixth-highest-grossing film of 2021. A sequel is in development. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/popcorn-junkies/message

Welcome back to the Rock 'n Roll Ghost Podcast. On this week's episode, the Ghost speaks with screenwriting duo Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers (Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home, Ant-Man and the Wasp) about their latest film, Spider-Man: No Way Home, which is in theaters beginning today. McKenna and Sommers discuss where they left Peter Parker in Far From Home and how that sets up his desire to make everyone forget that he's Spider-Man. In the Jon Watts-directed film (his third go round as well), Parker enlists Doctor Strange to help, but things go sideways and he ends up pulling in villains from the multi-verse who all go after Parker/Spider-Man. The duo also talk about their work style, as well as get into the fun and reverie had at the Spider-Man: No Way Home premiere, which took place the night before our interview (McKenna indicates he had a lot of fun). Spider-Man: Far From Home is a 2019 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man, co-produced by Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios, and distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing. It is the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) and the twenty-third film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film is directed by Jon Watts, written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, and stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker / Spider-Man, alongside Samuel L. Jackson, Zendaya, Cobie Smulders, Jon Favreau, J. B. Smoove, Jacob Batalon, Martin Starr, Marisa Tomei, and Jake Gyllenhaal. In Spider-Man: Far From Home, Parker is recruited by Nick Fury and Mysterio to face elemental threats from another dimension while he is on a school trip to Europe. By October 2016, discussions had begun for a sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming, with a release date given to the film before the end of the year. Holland was confirmed to return in July 2017, with Watts and the writers also confirmed to return by the end of that year. In 2018, Jackson and Gyllenhaal joined the cast as Fury and Mysterio, respectively. Holland revealed the sequel's title ahead of filming, which began in July 2018 and took place in England, the Czech Republic, Italy, and the New York metropolitan area. Production wrapped in October 2018. The film's marketing campaign attempted to avoid revealing spoilers for Avengers: Endgame prior to its April 2019 release. Spider-Man: Far From Home premiered in Hollywood on June 26, 2019, and was theatrically released in the United States on July 2, 2019, in 3D and IMAX. The film has grossed $110 million worldwide and was positively reviewed, with critics calling it a "fun and satisfying sequel" and praised the performances of the cast, particularly Holland and Gyllenhaal. -------------------- FOLLOW US -------------------- NADIA SAWALHA & FAMILY https://www.instagram.com/nadiasawalhaandfamily.com http://www.twitter.com/nadiasawalha For more movie news follow: POPCORN JUNKIES: https://www.instagram.com/popcornjunkiesmovieclub/ ------------------------------------ BUSINESS ENQUIRIES ------------------------------------ For business enquiries contact: michelle@doghouse-media.co.uk --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/popcorn-junkies/message

Welcome to Season 3 Episode 2 of the All Things Geekery Podcast – Superhero Madness In this episode, the geeks are back to discuss all the upcoming superhero & villain films coming out this year and what our thoughts are on each. Show Notes Captain Marvel Release Date: March 8, 2019 What We Know So Far Marvel’s first female-led superhero film will revolve around the most powerful character in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. This iteration of Captain Marvel will focus on the character of Carol Danvers, whose adventures are earthbound but whose powers are based in the cosmic realm. Joss Whedon wanted to introduce the character at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron, but Marvel didn’t want to bring Captain Marvel into the MCU fully formed without first telling her origin story. This film will be a prequel to the MCU, taking place in the 90s and bringing back Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson for the first time since The Avengers. Moreover, the comics characters the Skrulls are the villains with a story revolving around the Skrull vs. Kree war, which explains why Lee Pace and Djimon Hounsou are reprising their roles from Guardians of the Galaxy as Kree. That could have major repercussions leading into Avengers 4, but Captain Marvel will also give us a two-eyed Nick Fury. Jude Law is set to co-star as the alien Mar-Vell. Hellboy Release Date: April 12, 2019 What We Know So Far: Hellboy creator Mike Mignola came up with the story for this new reboot as opposed to moving forward with the third film in Guillermo del Toro‘s established franchise, and Stranger Things standout David Harbour fills the role of the titular character for director Neil Marshall, who helmed The Descent and a couple standout Game of Thrones episodes. The film has loosely based the Rise of the Blood Queen arc with Milla Jovovich filling that villainous role, while Ian McShane plays Trevor Bruttenholm and Daniel Dae Kim fills the part of Ben Daimio. Oh, and this is 100% Rated R. Shazam Release Date: April 5, 2019 What We Know So Far: Making his superhero movie debut, Dwayne Johnson opted to take on the role of the villainous Black Adam in this DC comics adaptation, but Warner Bros. subsequently decided to hold Johnson for a separate Black Adam movie so Shazam will be all about that hero. Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation director David F. Sandberg is directing, and this served as Warner Bros.’ next DCEU film in production after Aquaman. Zachary Levi is the title superhero character, with Asher Angel playing his boy counterpart Billy Batson. The story revolves around a young boy who can transform into a powerful superhero simply by uttering the word “Shazam!”. Mark Strong is playing the film’s villain, Dr. Thaddeus Sivana. Avengers Endgame Release Date: April 26, 2019 What We Know So Far: The conclusion to the epic two-part Avengers storyline will close out Marvel’s ambitious MCU with a bang. The title, Avengers: Endgame, has finally been revealed, if not the story, confirmed cast, etc. Dark Phoenix Release Date: June 7, 2019 What We Know So Far: The sequel to X-Men: Apocalypse has been firmed up as Dark Phoenix, which will tackle the beloved Jean Grey story arc from the comics that was first broached (and botched) in X-Men: The Last Stand. X-Men writer/producer Simon Kinberg has penned the script and is making his directorial debut on the project, which also stars Jessica Chastain as maybe the villain Lilandra and is bringing back pretty much the entire main X-Men cast. The movie won’t be skimping on the weirdness, as it’s been confirmed that the story will find the X-Men finally venturing to space. The Shape of Water (2017) R | 2h 3min | Adventure, Drama, Fantasy | 8 December 2017 (Canada) In a 1960s research facility, Elisa, a mute janitor, forms a relationship with a mysterious aquatic creature. Director: Guillermo del Toro Writers: Guillermo del Toro (screenplay by), Vanessa Taylor (screenplay by) Stars: Sally Hawkins, Octavia Spencer, Michael Shannon Our predictions for Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle based solely off of the trailers Joe's Take- This is what happens when you neglect your old board games; they mutate into a 90's style videogame system and wait for some poor teenagers on detention, to go all Guns N' Roses while welcoming them to the jungle. A nerd, a basic nobody, a jock, and a spoiled valley girl, are all transformed into their complete opposites to hilarious consequences. Forget all of the perils that come with a Jumanji based game like Rhinos and giant snakes, because these primadonnas have bigger problems to deal with like pollen, wet backpacks, middle-aged weight problems, and above all else, pound cake. Will three lives each be enough to make it through to the end? Will there be upgrades? And will The Rock do another one of his patented titty dances that we all love to stare at? My Prediction- No Robin Williams (Jumanji), no Dax Shepard (Zathura), and a stupid title? Should we be worried? The Rock (The Rundown), Jack Black (Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny) Kevin Hart (Get Hard), and that angry cyborg chick from Guardians of the Galaxy (Karen Gillan), make it seem like a a good idea, yet we've seen disastrous ensemble comedies before. I don't have a bunch of faith in this, but that pound cake scene and good word of mouth have me looking forward to this one. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle will not be a Piece Of Shit, I think. Mike's Take - When it comes to sequels, anything that uses a cool song title for the name of a movie usually means that it's going to be terrible. Taking the concept of the original movie Jumanji, where the board game threw different challenges at the characters and they had to play the game until it was finished. that was the great part of the movie. The characters had to drag the board game with them wherever they went. Now, the studios want to put all new characters into a "video" game version of the board game. While there seems to be some cool scenes, especially the Kevin Hart scene where one of his weaknesses is cake and he eats cake and explodes. That was funny. Aside from the title, this movie actually looks pretty funny. I liken it to what I call a "popcorn movie". You go to see this type of film to just forget about the day or the week and have some popcorn and enjoy the moment. Then again, the trailer could be nothing but a sham and totally give away the best parts, but it seems that this won't be a piece of shit. I mean Rotten Tomatoes couldn't be wrong could it? NAAAAH. NAAAAH. It's our last show of the year as we review Jumanji - Welcome to the Jungle and look back at 2017's year in films! Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is a 2017 American action adventure comedy film directed by Jake Kasdan and written by Kasdan, Chris McKenna, Erik Sommers, Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner, from a story by McKenna. A standalone sequel to Jumanji (1995), the film stars Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, Nick Jonas and Bobby Cannavale. The film's plot set twenty-one years after the first film, follows four teenagers who are transported into the video game world of Jumanji, and, playing as the characters they chose, must beat the game in order to return to the real world. It is also a tribute to Robin Williams, star of the original film, who died in 2014. Principal photography began in Hawaii in September 2016. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle premiered at the Grand Rex in Paris on December 5, 2017 and was released in the United States in 3D on December 20, 2017. The film received generally positive reviews from critics, who called it a "pleasant surprise" and praised the cast, and has grossed $121 million worldwide.

In the wake of the Battle of New York between the Avengers and the Chitauri construction worker Adrian Toomes (Michael Keaton) is set up for a big payday with the rebuilding of New York. When Damage Control, a new business venture for Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), comes and takes the work out from under him. Toomes vows to change his ways to take advantage of the new order of things. Eight years later, after returning from his own adventure with The Avengers Peter Parker (Tom Holland) is struggling to fit back into high school. When he comes across some illegal arms traders in New York, Peter takes the opportunity to prove once and for all that he can step up from being a small time hero. After he crosses paths with the leader of the gang Adrian Toomes, now going by the moniker Vulture, and almost destroys the Staten Island Ferry, Tony is more convinced than ever that Peter isn’t ready. But after removing all of the gadgets and toys Tony has given him, Peter steps up to the challenge and foils Toomes plan to steal more of Stark’s tech from under his nose. Peter is rewarded with an even more improved spider suit and a full time place at Avengers Academy. Because he's Batman.
