Raising Financial Freedom
What Life Skills Are Not Taught In Schools?

Raising Financial Freedom

#034 Many fundamental skills like networking, communication, negotiating, are not often taught in school. This is mostly due to the history behind the education system, which over time has continued to only focus on teaching the basic knowledge required in each career field. Unfortunately, most career courses even in university don't cover teaching these skills, even though they are practically critical for success in any field of specialty.  Mark Herschberg shares that even with 3 degrees from MIT, it was quite tough to properly manage his interactions within the workplace, and lost some opportunities because he lacked these very basic skills. Knowing he planned to become a Chief Technology Officer, he set out to teach himself and discovered that these skills aren't just for leaders but for all workers. MIT has also gotten feedback from companies, and other studies show a general scarcity in use. This is why Mark put together the program at MIT that teaches these skills and went ahead to write his book too.  For full show note please go to Raising Financial Freedom.com-       "If you just learn to negotiate… To be a little better… you can add 5 figures or 6 figures to your lifetime earnings" -       "Any good manager will tell you he or she wants to hire leaders, even for entry-level people"  In This Episode:·         [02:50] Meet today's guest, Mark Herschberg. ·         [03:31] Why are there so many skills for kids that have been forgotten by the school system? ·         [06:00] Do you feel that young adults are prepared enough today to step out into the real world?·         [09:25] How was your transition stepping into the real world?·         [11:46] How can a parent introduce their children to these skills, and when?·         [13:59] About Mark's book; "The Career Toolkit"·         [15:01] What action steps can parents take to get kids to learn these skills?·         [20:43] Given only one choice, which one skill would you implement in your child?·         [25:24] In the theme of health, wealth, and family, what advice would you give parents?·         [27:05] How to connect with Mark Links Mentioned: Mark's Website: www.thecareertoolkitbook.com Check out our website: https://raisingfinancialfreedom.com/Like us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/RaisingFinancialFreedom Like us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/RF_Freed

Do you have any porn regrets? In this episode, Mark Normand reveals which porn tape he regrets watching the most. Plus, Mark explains why men can’t get hard, and we talk about diversity in comedy. Mark was born and raised in New Orleans, LA, surprisingly to two normal parents. As a kid, he spent most of his time shooting short films and wetting the bed. He started doing comedy right after college and quickly moved to New York. Mark now does comedy clubs and colleges across the country and has been involved in many festivals, including Portland, Seattle, DC, Boston, Vancouver, Melbourne, and in 2013, was featured as a New Face at the Montreal Comedy Festival. In this episode, Mark explains why his manager quit show biz. It’s not too big of a deal during the pandemic, Mark is saving money now. Mark weighs in on the question, are there homophobic pedophiles? Society needs to figure out a way to get in the heads of these pedophiles. Then, Mark describes his first experience with pornography. His friend showed him porn at the age of twelve, and it completely blew Mark’s mind. He jerked off to it for five years after. We talk about regrettable porn viewings, including a toothless woman, a woman with three clits, and eating jizz. Mark speaks about getting crazy sick and breaking up with his long-term girlfriend of twelve years. He always thought about breaking up with her; however, he never wanted to pull the trigger. What course of action can a farm take if they’re being strong-armed by a local privatized bureaucracy?  Mark Baker of Baker’s Green Acres in Marion, Michigan joins us today to share his story. Baker’s Green Acres provides high quality meat products raised in the most natural way possible. Pasture feeding is a main component of their methods to produce the best tasting, "cleanest" meat they can.  Using these methods, they raise GMO free and pasture raised pork, chicken, and beef. However, Mark’s farming journey wasn’t all green pastures, daisies, and prancing animals under a smiling sun. Tune into this episode to hear a chilling reality of the Department of Agriculture and what you can do if you’re ever faced with a similar situation!   You’ll hear: How Mark got into farming 1:32 What Baker’s Green Acres offers 3:51 The story behind Baker’s Green Acres’ special pork breed 5:45 The end result of a confrontation with local bureaucrats 25:24 About the grounds for the warrant brought to Mark in December, 2017 41:59 Where to go to read more about a how you can safeguard your constitutional rights 58:52 The biggest mistakes Mark sees newer farmers making 1.11:47 About Mark’s favorite farming tool 1.32:00 Where you can find out more about Mark and Baker’s Green Acres 1.32:57   About the Guest:Mark Baker started his Anyone Can Farm dream when he was a boy and rode to a farm with his mother to pick up vegetables. When he and Jill married nearly 25 years ago, they started Baker’s Green Acres with a backyard garden that quickly grew to include hens, a goat, and pigs.  He’s always considered home grown food to be a birthright and a means of better health. When these things were challenged by a government agency order, Mark discovered the value of the Bill of Rights to safeguard our freedom to farm and live a healthy lifestyle.   Resources: Website - https://www.bakersgreenacres.com/ Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/bakersgreenacres/ Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/bakers_green_acres/

I've known Mark roughly around 2 years but it felt like 7 years to me. I met him at a coffee shop while he was slanging some latte for me. Little did I know, that was the start of our friendship. I won't forget that day. It marked significance in my life that clarified the course of my greatest desires. Becoming a husband and a father one day. Mark spoke a word to me that day that not only postured me to pursue entrepreneurship, it also matured my understanding of who God is. Inherently, Mark has a fathering heart from how he leads worship, working in the coffee industry, and a Jui Jitsu coach. Both in his meekness and boldness, Mark desires to gather people, where we are challenged, keep asking questions to understand each other that goes beyond our differences. To reconcile our biases. As a student in the faith, he learns to embrace the historical roots of a family deep within the spectrum of his own and of humanity itself. His desire for familial bond and community both explores the blurred lines of languages, breaking the walls that separate us as people. In this conversation, we funnel down the elusive massivity of our western culture down to the intricate intimacy of how it is to be a son and a father. Also Discussed in this Episode: Lost Connections: Uncovering the Real Causes of Depression – and the Unexpected Solutions Book by Johann Hari About our Guest, Mark C. Crowley Mark C Crowley is the best-selling author of Lead from the Heart, Transformational Leadership for the 21st Century, and is host of the Lead from the Heart podcast.  He regularly speaks to companies about how leading from the heart can create transformational results. Prior to completing his book, Mark spent over 25 years in the dog-eat-dog world of financial services, an environment known for its heartlessness and “take no prisoners” attitude. Twice, he held national-level responsibilities – most recently as Senior Vice President-National Sales Manager for Investment Products at one of America’s largest financial institutions, where he was named “Leader of the Year.” About Mark’s approach to management: “It’s the same disciplined approach others have with numbers and production…but mine is with people. You could say I manage the emotional side of work. I intentionally make people feel valued.  I identify their raw talents and seek ways to maximize their full potential.  I express my deep belief in them, give them voice, proactively coach and teach them – and make a deliberate point of honoring and recognizing all their achievements.” As a result, Mark’s people repeatedly scaled mountains for him and delivered phenomenal performance. Recognized globally as a workplace thought leader, Mark is a regular leadership contributor to Fast Company Magazine and has been published in the Seattle Times, The Huffington Post, Reuters, CEO Magazine Great Britain, USA Today, and by the Great Place To Work Institute.  He’s interviewed CEOs and senior executives at innumerable high-performing companies (including Google, SAS, Gallup and the Cleveland Clinic) who are models for “managing the emotional side of work.”  And his profound conclusion draws on new scientific research which shows that the human heart is a source of remarkable intelligence: What people feel in their hearts has tremendous influence over their motivation and performance in the workplace.   Connect with Mark on Twitter, Facebook, and at his website, markccrowley.com.
