Nearly 20 years as co-producer of the Common Ground Music Festival. Successfully completed his Certified Venue Executive designation in 2022. Launched the MargaritaFest, Greens & Grains, and Grand Concert Series events. Over the next few weeks, the Board of Commissioners will begin the transition and succession plan for the direction of leadership at LEPFA. “During this transition period, it's the priority of the LEPFA Board of Commissioners to find the best individual to lead, while still maintaining a stable and effective team to continue the task of fulfilling the mission of the Authority. We will share additional information as we continue along this successful path,” said Chairmen Kenric Hall, LEPFA Board of Commissioners. As a graduate of Liberty University, Georgia Southern University, and programs in the management of public assembly facilities through the University of Michigan and IAVM, Scott's long career began in the private management of various facilities around the U.S. and landed him in Lansing as a great place to further develop his career and raise a family. “It has been my privilege to serve as the President & CEO of LEPFA since 2010 and I have been blessed with the opportunity to work with a team of talented and dedicated teammates and colleagues. I am incredibly proud of the accomplishments we have all achieved together during my tenure here, “said Scott. “I am confident that the Authority will continue to thrive under the capable leadership of my successor.” ###

Join Afternoona Army host Lia and Friend-Of-The-Pod, Becky, for an in-depth conversation with Director of Premium Sales and Service for ASM Global at Oakland Arena, Bryan Watson. On February 14th, Min Yoongi aka Suga aka AgustD dropped a bomb on the fandom: he's going on world tour. This sent Lia and legions of other Suga biases into a spiral knowing that securing tickets would be tough and the best strategy was leaning into our collective power. It didn't take long for us to discover that suites were available for group purchasing at Oakland Arena--an option once dominated by corporations--but more accessible post-Covid. And as we explored the suite logistics...Bryan achieved a minor celebrity status among those ARMY trying to see Suga X AgustD in the Bay Area. The TL;DR is our efforts worked and we can't wait to collectively celebrate D-Day (AgustD, D-2, and all those solos) on May 16th. But the behind-the-scenes world of concert operations intrigued us. "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts. " That little pearl of Aristotelian wisdom is probably one of the most frequently used (or overused) phrases in the business world. Hospitality Leaders - Interviews with hotel, event, and food service experts
On today's episode, I'm joined by Karen Totaro, General Manager at Huntington Place - Detroit (ASM Global), for a conversation on how diversity strengthens hospitality organizations. Karen's foray into hospitality came in college, working at various arenas and stadiums. The excitement before a big event was almost tangible to her, and the thrill of hosting such an electric atmosphere drew her into the event industry where she's been ever since. Large events and conventions require a great team to be able to pull it all off, and Karen thinks that the team should embrace diversity to be successful. Different backgrounds and experiences bring in new perspectives and ideas, and having a diverse team means there's a better chance a client can mesh well with someone on staff, whatever their background. As Karen puts it, diversity is a superpower that elevates an organization to a new level of service. - Karen Totaro - Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/totaro411/?hl=en - Huntington Palace - Detroit (AMS Global) - https://www.huntingtonplacedetroit.com/ - Chris Cano - https://www.linkedin.com/in/chrismcano/ - Upshift - https://www.linkedin.com/company/upsh%C4%B1ft/ #hospitality #Foodservice If you enjoyed today's show, please leave a 5-star review. St. Catharines anti-racism committee says ventriloquist's show no laughing matterSt Catharines Standard, Saturday, August 27 2022Booking comedian Jeff Dunham for an upcoming show at the St. Catharines-owned Meridian Centre has the city's anti-racism advisory committee saying, Seriously? The committee is asking city councillors to request the Meridian Centre cancel the American ventriloquist's Nov. 20 show — something councillors will be discussing on Monday. At issue are characters used in Dunham's act and scheduled to be part of the North American “Jeff Dunham: Seriously?” tour that include a bearded skeleton puppet called Achmed the dead terrorist and a Latino puppet named “Jose Jalepeno.”A Black puppet, Sweet Daddy Dee who's a pimp, appears in Dunham's older online videos but has reportedly been retired from the act.A resolution from the committee, supported by the city's social sustainability committee, says the characters are based on racist stereotypes and have no place in a city-owned facility. “If the city is saying we're a compassionate city, we take a stand against racism, there's no room for racism or homophobia or misogyny here, then how can we have a performance that violates those policies on city property?” asked Saleh Waziruddin, chair of the city's anti-racism advisory committee in an interview.Waziruddin said holding the show would violate the city's own Rzone policy — a zero-tolerance approach to inappropriate behaviour and violence, including racism and hate speech, aimed at ensuring city spaces are inclusive for everyone.“You can't have it both ways,” he said. “You can't say you're a compassionate city against racism and then you do nothing when such a performance comes to town.” The sustainability committee, to which the anti-racism committee reports, is requesting city council ask Meridian Centre management ASM Global to consider cancelling the Dunham performance. It's also asking the city to create guiding principles for future performances at all city facilities with input from equity seeking groups or advisory committees or both.Merritton Coun. Greg Miller, a council representative on the social sustainability committee who's making the motion, said he doesn't want council getting involved in booking acts, but said there may be a blind spot in current city policies.“As the motion for the anti-racism committee points out, it's a little hypocritical to have a zero-tolerance policy for fans at kids' hockey games and then be paying performers with what I would call intolerant acts monies to come and perform in the city.”Dunham is one of the most famous comedians in the world and his Nov. 20 show is almost sold out at the 5,200 seat Meridian Centre. He performed to a sold out show at the centre previously in 2018.Kay Meilleur, the centre's director of marketing, said in an email the Meridian Centre presents a wide variety of music, comedy and other entertainment for a demographic that makes up a diverse community. She said the views expressed by all of the acts are not necessarily shared by the venue or the staff.“ASM Global and the Meridian Centre remain steadfast in our commitment to providing a safe environment for all fans and employees who choose to attend an event, while supporting those groups who choose not to attend due to content that might be viewed by some as offensive.”Representatives for Jeff Dunham did not respond to requests for comment by deadline. In an interview with The Guardian in 2018, Dunham said some of the material he's performed in the past makes him “cringe” a bit, but added “You don't want to lose your edge either, that's another fine line.”He told the UK paper whatever he's doing to offend three or four per cent of the people is what the other 96 per cent are “laughing at the hardest.”

We hike down to the Grand Canyon State and catch up with Kate Girotti, Regional VP of Marketing for ASM Global and Assistant GM of Gila River Arena in Glendale, for this Venueland adventure. Kate tells us about her roles in ASM, which takes her around to venues all over the country and beyond to assist with marketing strategies, building openings, and optimization. She talks about leveraging the experience and uniqueness of each venue to help raise the tide to improve all buildings while continuing to innovate in each market. We discuss what makes a “great venue marketer” and how fit within the market and company is sometimes just as important as anything else. When Kate is not city hopping, she's often enjoying vacations and spending time on her farm, and feels it's important to disconnect and balance the hustle and bustle of live events with the relaxation of nature. This episode is great if you're getting started in the industry and looking for tips on when to take risks, benefits from trying new industries, and the importance of networking while developing your career.Kate Girotti: LinkedIn | Email | Farm InstagramASM Global: Facebook | Twitter | Instagram | LinkedInGila River Arena: Facebook | Twitter | Instagram
Stadiums and venues shut down when the pandemic surfaced, but eventually adapted and found solutions to keep sports and live events running Katherine Krohn, Vice President of Business Development for ASM Global, joined Game Changers Host Katie Steinberg to discuss what the future holds for stadiums and venues. When COVID-19 first hit, the focus was crowd control; other technology was put on the backburner. “What I think the pause gave was really a lot of these rally savvy tech companies an opportunity to reinvent themselves and bring products to the table that maybe didn't exist before,” said Krohn. This included touchless technology and the WaitTime app, which allows seeing how and where fans move within venues. Krohn projected that these rollouts will only continue.According to Krohn, the sport technology sector will face speedbumps with technology rollouts. “I think it's not an industry-specific challenge, I think it's industry-wide. 5G really just reversed to fifth generation, meaning it's all new technologies coming out.” She added, “It's a significant overhaul in infrastructure that's required.” For example, a hot new stadium with 4G LTE will struggle until they jump to 5G.This brings to the table the importance of templates for venue technology success. Krohn explained the benefits: “The smaller arenas get to leverage what the T-Mobile arenas are doing today.” Additionally, “You know as a fan when you go to any ASM Global venue that you're getting a similar experience that's state of the art and engaged.”Krohn provided insight into the future: “I think the stadium of the future incorporates all of those creature comforts of being at home, breaking that mold of ‘this is why you love that energy of the live event,'” Krohn explained.
