This week, we're scratching The Itch to party! KC's birthday week was stacked with shows featuring podcast guests, and The Itch got to see plenty of them! First, KC and Aaron catch Boston Manor at the Subterranean in Chicago on their first ever US headline tour, with a diverse supporting trio of Farmer's Wife, Spaced, and Ellis. Then they swing over to the Bottom Lounge to see Ocean Grove supporting Thornhill with Avoid and Banks Arcade. Aaron somehow manages to turn two shows into one on the same night, creating a lineup where Hot Milk and Savage Hands ultimately open for Pop Evil. And finally, KC and Dan catch Gore. at Delmar Hall in St. Louis as they support Of Mice & Men and Until I Wake. It was a lot. And it was awesome. Enjoy. Brittany Bowman is the drummer for pop superstar Demi Lovato. An insanely great drummer and a wonderful person to boot! Hailing from Chicago, Britt sold her soul to music at the tender age of five years old. Her innate sense of rhythm was discovered in the backseat of her mom's car as she hit the headrest to the beat of the music on the radio—The Beatles were one of her favorites. By the age of ten, Britt discovered Green Day and got her first kit, beginning her budding romance with punk rock and drums. By the time she hit 15, she was playing notable venues around the Chicagoland area such as The House of Blues and Bottom Lounge, just to name a few. At 21, Britt made the move to Los Angeles where she now has her own studio and works as a hired gun for artists such as Demi Lovato, KiNG MALA, Meg Myers, Royal and the Serpent, and Toni Cornell, among others. She also focuses on session work for artists of all genres, while developing her YouTube and Instagram following by posting covers and play-through videos. With a growing online presence, Britt has piqued the interest of reputable companies who have brought her on board as an endorsee, trusting her opinion and talents to showcase their products on camera. Britt is constantly honing her talents, as well as seeking additional opportunities to tour and build relationships with like-minded bands and artists. I’m joined for this episode by Carla Harvey, who we first came to know through her 15-ish years with the band she co-founded, Butcher Babies. At the beginning of this year, she announced that she’s the new “Acid Queen” in Lords of Acid, with a tour and album to follow. As I describe early in the episode, Lords of Acid fuses acid house, industrial, techno, pop smarts and taboo-shattering sexuality. It’s a devastatingly great combo. Carla talks about how she became part of the Lords collective and how it’s a dream come true; she’s been a fan for decades. She also talks about the artistic journey awaiting us from her new band, the Violent Hour, which is revving up as I type this. Finally, we discuss her career as a grief counselor and end-of-life specialist, specifically diving into the topic of mental health and its importance to musicians and other nocturnal creatures. Beyond Lords of Acid and the Violent Hour, Carla’s also getting married this year. Given the fact that her plate is super full, I was thrilled that she took time out to talk with Car Con Carne. The troubles with the music industry. Fallout from the Will Smith “slap.” Is it vindicating to be an influence on some of the biggest alt bands of the past 30 years? #269 Bernie Leos - Tumbledown Touring Mexico Lead singer of Mexican Ska Punk band Los Kung Fu Monkeys, music business man and good friend of mine  joins the podcast to talk about our days on tour together in Mexico. Bernie used to book the tours and was our tour manager on a one very ill fated tour. But the memories are pure gold and I still love Mexico. I can't wait to go back.  Of note. Bernie translated and actually rewrote the lyrics for my song "Great Big World" into Spanish. Instead of some of the great American Cities that Tumbledown played in, we did a Mexican version of all the great cities of Mexico. Hope you enjoy it if you listen. It's gotta be kind of amusing to hear me sing en Español. ;) You can hear the track anywhere you stream music. Keith Underwood @underwoodtattoo  Keith was brought up in the tattoo world as a traditional tattoo artist. With an apprenticeship under Mike “Rollo Banks” Malone (who has worked with the great traditional tattoo artists “Sailor Jerry” Collins and Ed Hardy), Keith’s career path led him to the knowledge of traditional ways of tattooing and his way of doing business. In recent years Keith has been building a boxing empire with his company Underwood Promotions that puts on boxing events in the city of Austin, TX including Tattooed gloves, a charity event that has professional tattooers get in the ring with each other.  Keith sounds like a busy man, but he has proved that he can handle running multiple businesses and raise a family at the same time. With a solid shop to call his own in Texas, Keith is looking forward to making it as successful as his other businesses and spending more time with his wife and their two boys, Rooster Malone and Johnny Cash. ------ CHICAGO-  BOTH SHOWS ARE SOLD OUT! This week, musician Kevin Singleton (The Cold Mourning, El Famous, Inept) joins me for a performance outside Bottom Lounge (1375 W Lake St, Chicago, IL 60607), the epic Chicago live music venue he manages. Kevin plays two awesome Cold Mourning songs ("Hopeless," "Tombstone") before we bring food into the car from the spectacular Bottom Lounge menu. If you're planning to see a show at Bottom Lounge, plan on getting there early for dinner; the food rocks. We talk about: Kevin had to become "Johnny Law" when one of the bands at Bottom Lounge brought booze outside the venue. Advice for independent bands: How to present yourself and what to do when you're looking to get booked for gigs. "What are some good things a band can do... besides 'make good music?'" Kevin's ascension in the local music scene, specifically with the band Inept ("we started up right out of high school; we didn't have a care in the world") El Famous's history, including last year's profoundly emotional album. The reason why El Famous isn't doing much right now. Why Cold Mourning makes perfect sense as an artistic outlet for Singleton right now.
